Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary - Wildlife Refuge in Cheltenham, Australia
Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary in Cheltenham
Description
Privilege
One of the beautiful beaches in Victoria. The scenery is calming and fantastic at the same time.
MoreAn absolute wonderful place in Melbournes sprawling south east suburbs. Ricketts Point is my beautiful place to go snorkelling.
MoreAmazing place! I loved it.We saw a beautiful seahorse and a lot of fish around. I thoroughly recommend this place to go for snorkeling :)
MoreYou can find a crab under the rocks here! The rocks are very spiky, so don’t be silly and go barefoot like I did…
MoreThe best place to hangout with family. Love when low tide and flemingo and swans playing nearest spots. Enjoyed multiple sunsets ..wow
MoreAn absolute gem amidst Melbournes sprawling south east suburbs. Well loved by its community, Ricketts Point is my favourite place to go snorkelling. Rays are plentiful, reefs abundant and the fish are friendly. Cannot reccomend highly enough. Theres an excellent guide to Ricketts Point pdf available for free download online that will provide you with a map that shows best spots. Happy snorkelling 🐡
MoreI have visited this beautiful beach for a couple of time, every time it gives me new experience and new environment. The most amazing experience is that you always find yourself standing in the middle of the ocean and close to the seagulls, birds and millions of all varieties of live seaweeds. One friendly reminder about the car parking, it is free parking if you park across the road of the beach.
MoreFantastic environment, very cosy and elegant. Great staff, friendly and professional. What about the food? Well...it is not just like being in Italy, but being there among the best you can get! The menu is so yummy, all freshly hand made from scratch, delicious daily and unique specials! Outstanding wine selections to combine and great cocktails too! What a full experience! You must try it out!
MoreNature always beautiful
Shhh! Dont tell anyone about the beach here at low tide, its really very nice. When the tide is in, the beach shrinks considerably, so if its sand your after make sure to check the tides. The public amenities include toilets, tables and chairs, and good off street parking. Be warned, the parking is ticketed at the ridiculous rate of over $6/hr.Pro-tip. There is free 2hr parking on Beach road, but remember to check the signage before you park. There is an off-leash dog beach here too, so there are plenty of happy doggos running around (kept this pup happy).
MoreEpic location for snorkelling and paddle boarding, beautiful glassy conditions.
Its an amazing place to discover the sandstone reefs and rock pools! The scenery around is beautiful and serene. There are various sea animals that can be observed near the shore. Fishing is strictly prohibited. Make sure you wear shoes that grip well when you step on the rock platforms.
MoreGreat snorkelling venue and dive site although you got to swim out further for depth. Lots of rock pools to discover and explore. Great for kids and adults. Parking is expensive which partly explain why there are lots of it. Would be nicer if we do not have to pay so much for parking.
MoreVery beautiful and amazing shells. Seems insane to pay for parking though when I can visit all the beautiful beaches in qld for free. For paid parking I would expect better facilities
MoreGreat shallow beach water for exploring with kids.
Love this place, very calming, lots of great marine life. I just wish it was a little cleaner, unfortunatley there is a good amount of rubbish that lies around.
MoreNice, kid friendly beach ...clean and well kept...the price of parking is excessive so be prepared to walk a long way if you want free parking. Or stay for the whole day. $16..my opinion, there are better beaches around.
MoreAmazing place to snorkel but parking is a pain. Need to pay via app on phone but I didn’t have my card on me so had to walk to a pay station. Parked a bottom carpark and had to walk all the way back to get a ticket as there is no pay station there. When leaving inconsiderate people had parked in the exit lane causing chaos with everyone trying to get in and out from a single lane entrance.
MoreWe go snorkeling here so the time, its awesome. You must make sure you dont step on anything but sand when on the water, theyre is life everywhere in the water!
MoreSpecial part of the Bay. Popular for snorkellingabd Scuba as well as canoeing and Supping
MoreYou see beautiful world under the sea. Clear water and nice cafe next to car park.
MoreGreat place for beach fun and rockpooling!!
Great spot to walk around and explore rockpools. Meet friendly people. Dog friendly beach close by.
MoreAmazing place! I loved it.We saw a beautiful seahorse and a lot of fish around. I thoroughly recommend this place to go for snorkeling :)
MoreNice spot but has a lot of broken shells in the sand, make sure you are wearing footwear.
MoreAmazing marine life. I try to come here almost every week to relax after a steressf day at work or on a weekend. Underwater is a different world - beautiful and peaceful. Melbourne’s hidden gem. Few people realise you don’t need to travel to Great Barrier Reef to enjoy snorkeling or diving.
MoreNice beach to get some sun with the family. Dont go when its super crowded.
Nice little beach to take the family and have a paddle, rock pools to look at are always interesting. Beautiful scenery
MoreGreat beach, so much marine life and great for snorkelling and diving as well
Great spot to go with the kids on a warm day, its really different depending on what the tides are doing, but theres something for everyone. Theres a lot of different sorts of birds, plenty of snorkeling spots or just a bit of fun on the beach or look at the cool rock formations.
MoreSuch a beautiful spot with lots of bird life and a great place to go rock pooling when the tide is low. Kids have spotted fish, hermit crabs, rays and sea stars, dolphins, toad fish, baby lobster etc - lots to see. Also the perfect place to launch your kayak from as theres a car park that is very close to the waters edge, a surf club and toilets making it perfect for a whole day of beach fun.
MoreRicketts point is one of my go to spots to capture storms coming over poet Phillip bay. You can get some good vantage points all around. Its also not a bad spot for sunset photography too. There is an old signal post out on the rock shelf which provides a good foreground. There is also plenty of rock pools to get nice reflections of the sky in. Its a great place to bring kids to explore through the rock pools too. I remember doing this when I was a kid.
MoreNice rock beach for kids to come and explore. So many white and black Pelicans live around here.
MoreGreat quiet location to take the dogs to play! Our dog isnt the most social but there is plenty of room here for him to feel secure and have fun
MoreGreat place for snorkeling and swimming. Dog friendly beach is right next door too.
MoreGorgeous spot to watch birds and some waves crashing against the rocks.Totally recommend going if you love birds, so many different ones, even black swans 🦢💕.We really enjoyed it.
MoreLovely beach with half decent rock pools for kids to swim and play in, explore and collect shells.
MoreGreat place to visit for a walk or to sit and enjoy sun
A great quiet beach thats good for walks, swims and exploring rock pools. The bird life here is also amazing with so many different varieties.Dogs are allowed on the beach as well. The only bummer is that most of the car parks are metered.
MoreSuch a nice location for some snorkelling! Lots of shallows, rocky spots, and some deep. Als good for a dip or laze on the beach.
MoreAlways a nice place to come down to relax and and absolute peaceful place for a walk on low tide And a beautiful bird and marine sanctuary
MoreAlways a privilege to come by here during low tide. So many sea creatures to discover and many little crevices to explore. A popular destination with the locals, many visitors and such a delight for young budding sea explorers.
MoreIt is great to see a council that takes interest in the local environmentIt isnt great to see that the marine sanctuary has a run off pipeIf you are genuine about the sanctuary then the pipe should be moved elsewhereThen theres the fact that there are visible dog prints along the sandI also understand that you cannot stop pollution from washing up into and onto the sanctuary but you can prevent said pollution from going back into the sanctuary such as having regular patrols that collect any rubbish found on and in the sanctuary
MoreGood beach access with some sheltered areas perfect for families. The parking is a rip-off at $17.50 for a day (or $5.70 per hour), so try and use the on road parking if you can (its only 2 hours though!)
MoreLoved it. The sanctuary is better than just a beach visit. It is a beautiful place. Beware of flys and take a fly repellent with you. They are quite annoying. The surf rescue team runs summer training for kids. They are also very friendly and engaging people.Beach is clean and water can be cold and warm at the same time due to multiple streams of water. We were able to find clams, crabs, star fish etc. Although surf rescue team warned us about blue ring octopi which can be dangerous if you get bitten. There arent enough cafes around though.
MoreGood place to enjoy the ambience of the beautiful beach. At this marine sanctuary birds and marine lives could be seen and explore with the family especially at low tide. Great place for picnic too
MoreGreat safe place for young children to enjoy the beach, and for families to explore rockpools and snorkel. More marine life here that the Great Barrier Reef thanks to this being protected marine sanctuary under the care of Parks Victoria (therefore strictly no harming, damage or removal of any living or nonliving plant or animal or its habitat such as seaweed, sand, shell or rock! Severe Penalties apply!)
MoreGreat having two beaches. One for humans and one for dogs. People need to remember which one is which. Cafe close by for a snack, ice-cream or drink.
MoreWe had fun wandering around & looking at the rock pools at low tide. Close to Red Bluff & Half Moon Bay which are great walks with kids 7yrs +
MoreAmazing views, good for taking wildlife shots. Do check the weather forecast before going! Wouldnt recommend a picnic there as the flies are tenacious
