Hearty German classics share menu space with American standards at this tavernlike eatery.
Awesome amazing authentic german cuisine. Nice selection of authentic dishes. Large portions attentive staff. Highly recommend. Felt like i was back in munich
Got stared at by multiple patrons at the restaurant.Got told by wait staff that they had tables reserved (mind you there are 4 free tables in plain sight, and it was 7:15pm - 45 minutes before closing).Guess ethnic people dont belong in a "german" restaurant.
The food at Richards was nothing short of fantastic! My wife and I both got the German sampler because we couldnt choose just one dish. If you are looking for a combination of sweet and savory, this is your best bet! Not to mention the pretzel and fluffy roll that accompanied them. Both dishes were more than filling and completely satisfied us.
Great food. Had a baurenwurst appetizer and it was an amazing sausage. Can tell its homemade. For dinner I got the goulash. Plenty of meat, tender and delicious and great flavor. For sides I chose the sauerkraut and spatzle. Both were amazing.I dont get to Brunswick but once a year but this place is always my favorite stop.
Its a very good German restaurant. Food is wonderful.
Food wasnt as good as it used to be! Was great 3-4 years ago. Not worth the money.
I loved the selection of German beers and regional specialties. Definitely feels very authentic. Not exactly diet food, but still a good experience.
Love the German beer and meals. Bring an appetite!
This is some of the best German food. You have got to stop here and try it.
Loved Richards. Food was excellent. I make good sauerbraten but theirs was better. Family owned and operated. A lot of love goes into each dish. Not inexpensive, but a good value.
I had the braised beef with potatoes and veggies and my partner had the schnitzel with red cabbage and potatoes. A delicious and hearty meal. Didn’t give 5 stars only because it wasn’t a WOW meal, but we would definitely come back again.
Best German food in the area. Reminds me of my travels in Germany! Thanks for the great food !!
I’d love to share my experience, however, I didn’t get one. I was seated, then the table next to me was seated. The waitress came over shortly after, to their table, explained the specials and vegetables/potatoes of the day, took their drink order and left. Came back with their drinks, and left. Then came back to take their full order, and left. Not once was I even acknowledged while sitting there with menus open and had a glass of water the hostess graciously poured for me. So I left. Hopefully you’ll have a better experience than I did.
So cute. Great atmosphere.Great town. Great pretzels, Amazing mustard.
Authentic German food that is hard to find in Maine. Service was slow but it was a very good experience otherwise.
Food was excellent and authentic.service was grand.German beer on tap as well as in bottle.
I honestly dont know if authentic German food is not for me or the food here is just really bad. We had a party of seven, everyone ordered a different entree and no one like the food. A few of us couldnt eat what we ordered. I got the chicken and puff pastry dish and the "chicken breast" pieces were spongey. Staff were nice, the snail appetizer was delicious, German table bread was very good (but pretzels were staleand the mustard for the table bread was fantastic.
Best place in Mid Coast Maine for German food & tasty beer 🍺...great atmosphere with great selections. Good service too.
Loved the food, loved the service. We had a great meal for our anniversary.
Im half Austrian and love being able to come and get my jägerschnitzel fix. Richards has a relaxed old world tavern style atmosphere, friendly service, and the German food I crave.
I’m no expert on German cuisine , but my family and I have had some good food and happy memories at Richards !
Great food Great staff Its nice to have a great meal and leave FULLIf you are looking to go out for dinner and have a smile on your face when you leave then this is the place to go!!! Also have been multiple time and never a disappointment
Im not an expert of German cuisine, but I do like eating. The food here was quite good and the service was excellent. We will return for sure, and this place will be on our short list of places to take family and friends when they come up to visit us.Well worth the trip.
We love it here. Authentic German cuisine served with panache. I eat as much as they serve, but you know what they say about German food ... No matter how much you eat, you are still hungry for power.
I have been here many times for dinner. The food is amazing, authentic, and super filling. Come hungry and leave super full. Staff is super attentive and food is decently priced.
Richards is a delicious spot. Very authentic. Not sure why everyone is saying to make reservations though, feel free to walk up, its usually pretty empty...
We were attending an event in Brunswick, so I looked online for a restaurant to try. I was excited to find a German one that had currywurst. I havent had any since I was last in Germany 25 years ago. It was delicious. The service was good as well. I recommend reservations. I had made them and glad I did. They were turning people away because they were full. Dessert was yummy too.
I had dinner with 2 friends. The food was beyond compare. I enjoyed Sauerbraten with noodles and the best red cabbage Ive ever had (and Im German). Our server was very attentive and friendly. This is a great restaurant- but a word of caution...be sure you make reservations, youll be glad you did.
I second Riley’s review. This place is life changing. I came in..sad and hungry. I left a new man. A better man. Thanks for the schnitzel Richards! I will be back
Best restaurant Ive ever been to. The sweet and sour beef sauce is a must have. And the mustard they serve with the pretzel appetizers changed my life. Anyone who gave this restaurant less than 5 stars cannot be trusted
Richard’s was really outstanding. Wonderful beer menu, friendly service and just outstanding food. Don’t believe the negative reviews. This place is some of the best German food I’ve had outside of Germany.
2 stars for the service/space. Had high hopes for the menu although should have paid more attention to the lack of locals (and even fewer folks visiting).Pea and Lentil soup was bland, strudel with ham and cheese was served pipin hot, and was ok.Brown Butter Haddock was one sided with scant lemon and parsley.Steak Tips with Spinach Spaetzle special of the day was flat - small serving of unseasoned steak tips (imagine it was barely more than 3.5 oz servingalthough the homemade spaetzle had a nice bite. Perplexed this was served without any sauce/gravy...
The most authentic, delicious German food youll find with a wonderful beer selection. Owners and staff are hard working, friendly, and very welcoming.
Wonderful authentic German cuisine. Great atmosphere.
Made reservations easily and we were seated promptly. Service was very good and efficient. The rolls were delicious with butter, and the pretzels with their special mustard were very good. Dinner and desserts finished a very nice meal.
Been to Richards a number of times and find they do a great job with the beer and main dishes. This time we purchased the Munchener Schnitzel and Jaegerschnitzel. The breading mixture on these were done perfectly - light, flavorful and NOT greasy. Both dishes came with spaetzle. The spaetzle is fantastic - some of the best we have ever had.For beer, we got Spaten Oktoboerfest on draft (0.5l ~ since they had it). The flavor reminded me of Germany - true to taste.Deserts were good, but we took them with us, so may have sacrificed a bit of the flavor and freshness factor. So cannot take away from scores there. We got Apfel Strudel and Sachertorte.Note: they did a great job adhering to COVID rules in place at the time. Felt safe inside their restaurant.
Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Brunswick. The tastes are uniquely exceptional, from the beers on tap to all the food items. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. Prost!
Richards never disappoints! We have been coming for years. We are so happy that they have found a way to make it work in these challenging times of 2020. ❤We appreciated the opportunity to dine outside. (Its almost time to fire up those heaters.)The food and the service were top notch.Keep up the good work!
Went recently for a birthday dinner and had a good time. Staff were really helpful and took good care of our table. Food was good. They had a wide variety of German appetizers and entrees as youd expect at a German restaurant but also some American dishes (seafood, steak, chicken, and burgers).
Wunderbar!! Delicious food and excellent service was my experience! Schnitzel was cooked to perfection and best red cabbage I ever had!! They have all the German classics and plenty of great beer selections. Im looking forward to my next visit!!
Really good food, friendly service and great atmosphere. I would have given 5 stars but service was pretty slow. Seems like they could use a couple more waiters or waitresses. Price was a little higher but worth it for the quality of the food.
The staff and food at Richards Restaurant were outstanding. They explain their daily special and are understanding if you dont know what something is. Thanks for a wonderful meal
The food was delicious and varied. There is a full menu of German and American dishes and with lots of food and of great quality. Further the desserts are incredible. Make sure you try one of these German beauties!! The service was great and the atmosphere very German. This is a good to restaurant in the Bruinswick Maine area. Worth the time and effort!!! 😀😃
Food wasnt great and service was a little slow but good concept because there is very little German food in the Portland and Brusnwick area. Personally I reccomend the pan fried haddock with the red cabbage and the warm potato salad, it was the best within our group!
The service, food and atmosphere were excellent. Upon stepping through the door, I was shown to a table. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The food, which in my case was a special for dinner and a piece of cake for dessert, was promptly served, delicious, and priced fairly. The dim lighting in the resturant matched the dark wooden interior and, combined with the old time german music, created a warm and comfortable ambiance. I would happily go back.
Large, beautiful building centrally located in the heart of Main St., Brunswick. I met my dad here for dinner and we enjoyed our dining experience. There is plenty of parking right on Main St, but you might find it easier to park in the public lot directly in-back in the restaurant. Spacious inside the restaurant and food was prepared fast. I thought it was a little dark, and there was only one server, but she did a fantastic job by herself! Daily specials and good variety of German beers and food.
Nice atmosphere, great staff. I have been here a few times, and it’s always enjoyable, staff/service are terrific. But the food is just not remarkable. It’s fine - but not more than that in my experience. If you are looking for knock your socks off German food, make an outing to Morse’s. Or try Schulte & Herr in Portland (but BYOB!).
Holy Cow! This place looks like a bar from the outside but once you step in the smell of the food is like a wake up call to happiness. In the bread basket is yeasty buttery hand made rolls and of course pretzels with butter and a spicy mustard on the side. Pictured is the German sampler and everything on it was outstanding. It’s a great place to he for before theater dinner and the waiters were kick ass ladies. The food came quick and we even managed to stuff some dessert in.
OMG! Or, I should say "Ach Du Lieber!"My wife and I sat down at evening opening time of 5pm and immediately knew we were in the midst of true, authentic German fare.My wife ordered the Jagerschnitzel and I ordered the Wiener Gulasch. We, my wife and like to slip little morsels of our meals to each other and in doing so, get to try what the other ordered. Let me tell you, both, were absolutely delish! Have you ever tasted a food that was so good you would try to keep rolling it around on the palette before swallowing? Oh, pure heaven! The wine was also flavorful; my wife had the Riesling Mosil, and I? Well, I WAS going to order one of the beers but opted out settling instead for a Coke. Kinda blasphemous on my part and will have to come back here to make things right. No, you wont go wrong coming on down here.Oh, we shared a Prinz Totengen torte. Very good as well.My full gratitude to Herr Wilhelm, son of Richard, who in the middle of a busy Saturday evenings start, came out to our table to introduce himself. That was beyond anything I usually experience. Im coming back. In fact, I hope to plan a family reunion and have all my family fly in and meet up here soon.
A nice option in Brunswick. At my most recent visit I ordered the sampler plate, very nice! The food is well presented and tasty.
