Ribat in El Kef

Great experience of history of this defensive fort. Great views from the top. Must see for yourself. 8TDN entry. No Cafe, but work in progress.

This is a wonderful place :I loved this castle.The price is very good, you get a ticket for 8 Dinar (foreigner).The tower is amazing, the stares up get smaller, for a tall person that might be bit difficult :P but the view up there is totally worth it.The only thing that bothered me was the some scratches on some walls. People who are working there must prevent such things and take care of the place.

A beautiful Fort overlooking the harbour.

A must-see when visiting Monastir for several reasons. You have a beautiful view from the tower, it is a beautiful place and it is fun to explore the Ribat. Even tough it is only a building it takes around 1 hour to explore the place. Entrance fee is 8 TND.

Wonderful historical landmark which is totally worth the visit. The price for foreigners is 8 dinar whereas its cheaper for Tunisians and students. There wasnt much information written in English, just French and Arabic. The view from the tower is worth the visit but not for those with acrophobia. We had the fortune of visiting whilst they were preparing the place for a film set.

Top Sight in Monastir.Beautiful ancient castle in amazing condition, amazing view over the city and if you come in the morning you will have it almost for your own.Amazing atmosphere.

An absolutely obligatory stop for every self-respecting tourist. cheap entrance, unforgettable views, favorite cool refreshment inside. No problem for the kids.

Good place to visit and see a very beautiful view.A very old place and historical.I wish that the stores down near to Ribat they destroy them and give them an other shape like a van or something like that.

Not to be missed, mostly for the view of Sousse medina, port, from the tower. There are roughly 100 steps total to get there. For the Ribat in general, not much to be seen inside and as expected no explanation other than a general panel at the entrance. The rest is empty without information on the spaces.

8th century Muslim fort.. didnt see anything like this in any other country

Excellent fortress/garrison, which has great views from the top. Entry is a very reasonable 8 dinar (~£2.20). There are toilets available as well. Bring water during summer, the castle walls are very exposed.You can look into empty rooms. You can climb up the tower to get great 360 views. There is also a little one-room museum in there.Only catch is not much information available anywhere (in English or other languages).

Breathtaking historical building and gorgeous view

Very nice place ! If u are in Monastir you really need to visit it wont take that much time . It is well maintained and clean. The view is amazing from the top. It contains a small collection of old stuff and pictures of the old Monastir. It is safe too, at first you may be hesitant to try to get on some things but it is allright dont be. Def worth visiting especially if you love to see historical old ma3alem.

Clean and nice preserved site but too small and blank , ok to visit on weekend if you are in Sousse but nothing extraordinary you will discover there.

Monastir Ribat look very impressive and if you are near looks huge. Was a great fortress and in our days the tourists can visit this place. This fortress it is a page of Tunisian history. If you are travel in Tunisia you have to go to visit this fortress.

This beautiful Ribat is the oldest Ribat in North Africa. Up on the tower, it offers a nice panoramic view of the town, the crystal clear water of Mediterranean and the Bourguiba mausoleum in the distant.

One of the best ribats of Tunisia. Its well maintained and fit perfectly in the urban view around it. A must see while you visit Monastir.

Such a lovely holiday

This was the best ribat in Tunisia that I visited. It has amazing views of the town, mausoleum and coastline. Furthermore it’s well maintained and even has a small museum with a petit collection of artefacts, pottery, coins and history of the restoration of the site. Very nice 👍

The pride of Monistir. The fabulous ancient ruins giving amazing views over the Mediterranean. For those of you that remember Monty pythons Life of Brian, this was one of the locations for the film and it becomes obvious which scenes on entering the castle. A must place to visit.

A very beautiful place to visit in Monastir. Its near the tomb of the former president Habib Bourguiba. This ancient fort has been restored. There is a wonderful view up from the tower. You can also find a museum inside. There is a fee about 8 dinars I think. Parking is outside and free, just besides the fort. Becareful when going upstairs! And dont lean too much!

A place with ancient constructions that transport to you to more 400 thousands years of history.

Great place to wander round and explore, interesting history, great photos. One of the highlights of our holiday. Also, the Ribat was the location where Monty Python filmed Life of Brian.

Best place to spend afternoon. Nice fort beautyfull view from tower overlooking the the town of monaster and see view is breathe taking.nice to explore in side the fort.there is a small museum of Islamic art.

Its an amazing place old but still maintained had fun exploring . The only thing I didnt like is the absence of a guide to tell us more about the history of this place

Good location to spent our evening with family and friends. There is a old fort in front of the sea.

Nice & peaceful, loads of shopping to do around this area, but make sure you are ready to haggle

The ancient feeling inside. We came here off season, was peaceful and calm. Please stop at information board before starting your tour to get a better picture. 7 dinars per person, and if they see large camera they charge extra 1 dinar! But we think this is unofficial charge..... just for tourists!

Visited Monastir. Nothing spectacular.

It is very nice located on the shore of the city. You can see seaside of the city over the walls.

Its nice to see. Great views from the tower, and not many tourists were there. Would have a guide, as not many people gave much information.

The Life of Brian was filmed here!

Wonderful architecture and a great view over the sea from this Fortress. Well located at the center of the city near the main attraction places: The Great Mosque, The Medina and Bourguibas Mausoleum.

Historic military fort is incredible and beautiful. Should be on your tour for visiting after the mausoleum of Bourghiba.

Clean and small fortress. Worth to spent a couple of hours...

Great historic monument. relatively well maintained. enjoyed exploring the maze-like corridors and passages inside the structures walls. Great panoramic view of the surrounding city and scenery from the top of the tower.
