Restoran Todak (Orang Asli) - Seafood restaurant in Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Was very messy when my friends and I first arrived. We were initially waiting in a line at the entrance, but were ushered in by one of the staff. But we realised that we had to find our own tablesHowever, the experience was saved by the quality of the food. The black pepper crab, fried rice and egg was delicious.
Been a while since I came back to the place. We were early on a Sunday (5pm on arrivaland they started to open up the outdoor sitting after a light rain. We had a great view and good food. However, be sure to eat fast as the wind may cause your food to turn cold quite quickly.
Unfortunately many dishes not taken....I can assure you I like the chilly crab, black pepper crab, chilly lala and others but not steam fresh seabass. . . Muddy taste.
What an awesome place to dine and enjoy the seaside. There were 20 of us and I pre-booked 2 big tables. We enjoyed every moment at this restaurant. You pick your own seafood which was quite and experience.I wanna go back here!!!!
Went to try out this place after seeing this place from a youtube video.Ordered butter sotong, chilli crab, potato leaves, lala w soup and indonesian prawns. Their crab was really huge as we ordered the 800g one, i think they have different prices (12/15/18rm per 100g), which quite reasonably priced.1 star less as the butter sotong (the one that was highly recommended by the youtubercame out disappointing as it seems to be quite tough and too rubbery, unable to bite off quite a few pcs.Indonesian prawns were fresh however the curry soup seems to be super full of oil. No doubt it made the prawns flavourful but i don’t think anyone will want to have too much of that.Vegetable and lala were average. Lala soup was v flavourful, not sure how much msg was added in.Location: the place is slightly further away from the custom, around 19rm for a 4seater grab/ 15km!?!? from Komtar JBCC. It was right next to the water, which i believe across the water is Singapore as we have quite a strong network from our Singapore lines. Understand from our grab driver, the msia network is quite weak at that area though.Overall: May not specially come back to have this as there are many other nicer seafood zichar nearer to the custom.
Lovely restaurant on stilts beside the sea. The food taste amazing and the place has a breathtaking view especially during dinner time where the tide comes back in and the sun sets. Seafood is rather pricy but overall worth it.
Better than average food at a fair/affordable price! However, portion size is kinda small.Location is not easily accessible (far from JB Sentraland it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a seat during peak dinner timing, albeit there are at least 30 tables?Gotta have sharp eyes and fast response to grab a table.Ordering process is kinda weird, gotta go WAYYy inside, to the back of a long queue to order. No menu to view except some sign boards (pic 4 and 5).The surrounding water is quite disgusting too, your hand washs water flows directly into the sea/water around the restaurant.
Best seafood in jb. Because everything is alive. The fish, different type of crabs, prawns etc all very fresh. The steam fish Source is the best in town. Nice sunset scenery
Average , edible , environment as u know the name Orang AsliThe Indonesia Prawn must order , fresh and taste great
Price is affordable with really nice environment. Staff service a bit too slow & kinda rude. Overall still recommended to visit.
This is big restaurant for seafood.Local people will come too. Many Singaporean come and most people are come with friends and family. You can work in without reservations but you should find a table first and then waiting in the queue to order. Most price of fish and prawns and clams are on the wall be aware that’s the price of 100g.The steam fish we chose Chao zhou style. It’s steamed with pickles and plum and mushrooms. The soup is good but we thoughts the time is a little bit long the fish is a little rubbery. The Indonesian Prawn Curry is most favorite one. Together with the fried bread it’s heaven! Highly recommended if you love curry! The Lala and vegetable is ok.Reasonable price and good flavor. Just too many people.
Can pick your own seafood can choose how you want it to be cooked eg steam or deep friedOrdered 2 black pepper crabs, butter sotong, lala, fried sweet potato leaves and deep fried grouper. Seafood is extremely fresh and delicious. Fish was not dry at all, was really tender and juicy. The scenery is beautiful too.HOWEVER, the service is extremely horrible. Staff frequently ignore/forget your requests and you need to set up your table yourself. They give peanuts without telling you that it isnt free and dont take it back when you dont want it. What a scam.Quite disappointed, will not come here again.
For a Singaporean, I enjoyed going to Todak because I could still connect to Telecom in Singapore, and the food we ordered was acceptable. The service was slower, and the staff may not be as friendly as expected.Total of 4 pax inclusive of me, we spent RM600 for the following dishes:1. Lobster salad2. Lobster head soup3. Chilli Crab (Two crabs)4. Sambal sweet potato leaves5. Oyster omelette6. Butter sotong7. 8 man tou for chilli crab
Seafood was fresh but its not to my taste. Extremely crowded. If you are eating, ppl will stand behind you to wait for your table. Not enough manpower. Taking order was slow. Taking drinks order also slow. Food served also slow. All the hype but the simplest dish like chilli crabs also can messed up! Wont be back.
Nice place, ambience. No frills. Just good seafood at an affordable price. Mobile signal is either from Singapore or Malaysia (LOL). This place is accessible via your own transport or probably Grab.
Food quality was dropped compare to last time. Lala Soup was salty and steam fish was hard. Quite disappointed.
Big restaurant. plenty tables and chairs . Food serving is quite fast.food taste is below par ( for me ).ample of parking.can view nice sunset.
Quite a long drive from JB custom. Seafood is fresh, at least for the fish and lobster we had. Can’t go much wrong if seafood is fresh and steamed.Butter prawns were over cooked so it take an effort to peel the shells.View is good there. Can receive Singapore telco connection. On the whole, worth coming here as price is affordable and products are fresh.
Always packed with people. Wait long queue and long order. Reasonable price and good taste. Nice view.
Food and Service quality worsen compare to 2 years ago. Staff is there, but cannot cope the crowd. Have a feeling that only cashier have the passion, she’s very fast. Hope there’s improvement on this.
If I can give 0 star, I will definitely give -5 star. 5 dishes order, first dish served, next dish we had chased 4 times within 45 min but nothing being served. The aunty said will check for me on my 2nd, 3rd and forth check with her. The table next to us which come later are enjoying their meal happily. End up we left after one hour the first dish served, other 4 dishes never come. They never apologise for the mess, like so used to see upset customers standing in front of them. My advice to all the eaters, do not come during peak period, they cannot manage their order.
Went on night of 9/7/22 and whole family got food poisoning right after. No thanks for ruining our trip with diarrhoea and vomiting. Had lala and crab, kangkong, furong omelette, mantou and coconut water. All were very small portion and kangkong n omelette very salty but who tf cares, im dying right now.
Awful fish, don’t taste fresh and the Teochew steam style is just plain tasteless. Hot plate toufu looks awful and tasteless, sambal kangkong taSteless, clam Okok only. Luckily it’s cheap. Take it as donation to the place. Regretted to come back to eat. Nice ambience but food is totally horrible. Don’t have salted egg prawn ball and don’t have NaiBai vegetable. Such a big place but lack of variety of food. Haiz….. ruined my dinner date… 🫤
Arrived at around 5pm on a weekend, there was quite a crowd already. Ordered a crab each and it was really filling. Chili crab and butter crab was decent and affordable. Love the mantou dipped in chili gravy. Have to wait around for seats and the waiting time is much longer if you arrive later. View was good around sundown time with sounds of the waves~ The place is a little out of the way but worth the trip
Really wanted to share the very "good" experience here. Noticing that there are about 3,000 reviews, we thought that going to a reputable restaurant is going to be satisfactory for us 🤔End up, the food was very very average, most amazing part is we spent $900RM, $300SGD for 5 pax. Looking at the dishes, we have a friend who is a great fan of lala, I dont know is they serve very big plates or what, but with majority of lala and crabs, cant believe we spent this amount for average food 🤯Lastly, if customers really dont know how to order, experienced order takers can advise as well... Not just do your job unethically, turn a blind eyes to the dishes order and charge this amount 🤬View was great, companionship was the only console that makes the dining experience worthwhile. Personal opinion is to strategies your orders, check the bills and if possible, you can dine at KFC and go to the beach for a view 😅Dont need to spend a bomb just for some cold and wet Seawind 🤣
Worse taste for the chili crab, like putting chilli sauce then done, shark fin soup is sweet? Owh my god, u making the food taste so bad, the beside YX restaurant is better than you
Went there on a Mon and it is packed with foreigners (Singaporeansdue to school holiday. U need to queue up to order then find a table. Food arrived not too long probably abt 15-20mins despite the almost full crowd. Food wise as follows:-1. Chili crab is acceptable. Gravy is good to eat with fried mantou2. Prawns r fresh3. Fried sotong is a bit salty4 San Tang Lala soup is really nice (highly recommend)Overall damage is RM270 with 2 bottle of beers.
Ive been here many times and this is the worst. I complaint about the bad taste of the food and was told that the main chef has left. The food that I had was cooked by junior chef and completely disgusting!! Wont come here anymore!
Service:The staff waitress with black n bold eyebrow aunty service very bad, keep chewing food while talking to us, as her question she act like we own her a lots money, answer with very rude behaviour.Food: Portion quite little compare to restoran outside. Taste not really satisfied, black pepper crab only can taste salty, no black pepper taste at all. Steam Crab over steam and too salty. Conclusion : over rated, wouldnt visit again.
Food quality definitely deteriorated a lot.. Much better option elsewhere. Chilly Crabs like starchy and feel like tomato sauce. Sotong that is too hard to eat & feel like rubbers..Mix up in quantity serving.. ordered 3 crabs, came out with only 2..Messy ordering system. Waiter is quite rude. Not motivated to better serve customers. The only consolation is the price. That all.
Bad experience.1. Have to stand and queue for table and order2. Didnt get what was ordered and received what was not ordered3. The lights was down due to short circuit. Cannot see what was served (see photos). Have to self improvise using handphone light4. The food wasnt very fantastic5. There is stench from the surrounding at times6. The location of the restaurant is too far off. Pot holes along the road to restaurant.Total cost of dinner 570rm. Crabs are 1.8kg at 15rm per kg.JB have alot of good restaurants. You might get a better deal elsewhere.
Good value for money.. didnt order crab. But drunken prawn so so, tofu bit salty. Portion small
A regular zi-char place, no special dishes to shout. Lobsters going for rm366 per piece. View is fantastic but food needs work. Parking lots can fit about 50 cars but would worry about the various potholes and flooding - just invest in cement and make it flat.
The view was superb. But the food was just mediocre. The price was quite affordable. Waited for an hour to have our meal served.Black pepper crab - this was recommended but the taste was just average.Salted egg squid - it was served cold and not crispy anymoreMantou - best dipping in curry sauceCurry prawn - an average one. The prawns were quite fresh.(Went there at 530pm to skip the crowd. Just few tables at that time, but they were still served slow. Maybe due to understaffed.)
The seafood here are fresh and cheap! A little wasted we went there after the Raya long weekend and there weren’t much choices.. Hopefully the next time we’re back there we can get to eat their butter sotong :):)
Some dishes were served warm and not hot. Felt like the crab and scallop standard deteriorated since my last visit pre-Covid. But the tiger dragon grouper remains as delicious as before. Consider coming before 5pm before the crowd arrives and you will have the full attention of the waiters.
Restoran Todak offer some wide variety of fresh seafood. It is located by the waterfront viewing Singapore. Their speciality would be their crab, can choose from black pepper to chili crab. Price is not too expensive. Just be ready for long queue during weekends.
Best restaurant surrounded by sea water. Compare fish prices nominal. Variety of Chinese foods available.. So many live fish, crab, lobster available here. Taste 👌👍
Food was just ok. Despite the hype and setting next to the sea, the overall experience does not leave a great memory. The place is messy, service is so-so, seating arrangement is terrible, toilets are dirty.
Enjoy the dinner there with sunset view.Wide range of fresh live seafood for choice.Pick ur favorite seafood by your own and they can cook for you. Fast serving, taste decent and yummy. Delicious seafood by the sea. Pepper crab is delicious with perfect black pepper flavor that is not overpowering but very tasty and aromatic.
Ordered sweet & sour chicken, stir fried kailan, hotplate tofu, salted egg crabs and black pepper crab. Portion and price are fair. Food is good. Will return for other seafood.
Been to this place several times. Was never disappointed with their services.A good place to enjoy seafood at a very reasonable price. The dishes here are made to order. You may request to customize your own dishes too.Once you are seated, the crew will come to take your orders. Within few minutes, your orders will be served hot on your table. They accept cash and card transaction. Ample parking space and wheelchair friendly.
Overall Experience : Average place for seafood1. Squid - Overcooked, crunchy, salty, huge portion2. Steamed red snapper - Average, overpriced3. Choy sum - Tasted Amazing and flavourful, crunchy, highly recommended4. Hot plate tofu - Tasted amazing, highly recommended5. Nestum prawn - Prawn is not fresh, taste is average6. Black pepper chicken - Average2. Service - Friendly staff3. Serving time - 20 mins4. Affordability - Standard price5. Atmosphere - Spacious, windy, mosquitoes around, red lights
Price reasonable and affordable. The food is tasty and appetizing. The parking area is free but full of mod and sand. Avoid going on raining day in the weekend night as it didnt have much indoor seats. Early booking is recommended to reserve your seat.
Great place to have fresh and yummy seafoods. Love the Curry Prawn and the Black Pepper Crab. Very crowded but foods served fast. Plenty of parking space.
This is our first time here upon recommendation, and it was the best decision ever! Everything we ordered is delicious! They don’t have menu but you can always ask the staff for recommendations, they cook superfast too! Staffs are helpful and accommodating! The place is clean and they even have surau. Price are hands down on a cheaper side given the freshness of the food! Will definitely come again
Came here for crab only. Cost us RM105/700g. Crab is very fresh and meaty however the black pepper too salty to our liking. Please inform the waiter to take back the wet tissue if you dont want it or you ended paying RM1 each eventhough youre not using it. Need to improve the distance for each table because its too closed. Not proper SOP on social distancing. Some staff do not wear mask. Come at your own risk 🥴
The place was good. Service also good. Prices are reasonable. Taste can be better specially for sweet n sour where the sauce is too much and Nyonya style was not up to the standard. If you order these two, jst take note. The rest all nice specially the yam cake. Very nice but remember to tell them to reduce the dried chili coz its too much.
We went to this restaurant 2 days in a row.. (Friday & Saturday). Food was delicious, staff was great, price also affordable. As customer, dont shy, just ask the price during order so you can estimate total price. For first timer, please communicate and ask the staff to suggest the menu for you since they dont have menu book. Drinks menu limited choice. Overall, definitely will come again next time.
