Kampung Buloh Telor, 35600 Sungkai, Perak, Malaysia, Teluk Intan
Restoran Sun Kee (salted Chicken) - Chicken shop in Teluk Intan, Malaysia
Variety of food, but salted chicken their main menu
I just heard of complaints about this shop but i dont know the details and i was not there. I was told that the chicken wasnt properly cooked. Of all my prior experience here (i always pre order, collect, and go), the salted chicken were all nice, ofcourse, properly cooked yet remain so tender and juicy.I always had kampung chicken. Though lesser meat, but taste always good.As usual, salted chicken requires chicken to be wrap up properly, place in a huge wok covered with coarse salt. They also cook their wok above stove and fire up by using chopped wood. I dont know what kind of wood, but it always bring a very nice fragrance. Not ordinary charcoal.Opening up the packed chicken had always been satisfying. I would separate the drumsticks, and then pour out the fillings from within the ribs (ginger paste). Meat are usually already very tender, bones are easy to break. I dont mind licking from every bone for all remainders left attaching on them.
I personally feel that this is better than those popular salted chicken sell in Ipoh. The ginger paste they used to bake with the chicken give it an extra kick which I love it very much.
Salted chicken really delicious and tasty. Price also reasonable. Recommended for all.
Best braised pork knuckles Ive had since ages ago. So good that I dont feel guilty of indulging in this fatty delight. Tapao the salted chicken Rm43 for a whole chicken, but not too impressed as the meat was a little dry. Good diversion for lunch. Good looking hosts too!
5 of members family ate 6 dishes ordered... Really full.yummy!
Make sure you order chicken in advance. Otherwise depend to your luck if the extra. Even the sweet potatoes. Enjoy the most is the “petai”, really give lot of petai! One thing is, the smoke, the chicken the cook using woods! Most of the dishes the serve really yummy.
Food is delicious. Vege are so fresh!
Very nice salt baked chicken, roasted over rubber wood authentically cooked with Bentong ginger, very tasty and fragrant.. Must try.. Dine in is good as there are other dishes available. Sometimes they have baked sweet potatoes, if you at lucky. Delicious. It is better to give them a call to pre order as they have a limited number of chicken to cook by batch. Highly recommended
Traditional Salted Chicken - Taste Good and recommended to try this aroma chicken when you are in Sungkai. This restaurant also served home cooked lunch and dinner.
Delicious home cooked food experience. The salted ginger chicken, petai, fish is all amazing
Charcoal cooked chicken is syok oooo. Sweet potato is also damn wonderful.
Food ok only, not able to try the chicken coz all sold out
Food so so, not able to taste the salted chicken coz all sold out by the time I reached
Taste good. need call for booking, otherwise u will not get it~salted chicken
Delicious salted chicken, used traditional way - wood fired to bake, can try the salt baked sweets potatoes.
Famous for their salt baked chicken. If you love ginger, this place is for you cos lady boss stuffs the tummy of the chicken with lots of chopped ginger. Besides this, the herbal ones are available too. We prefer ours with ginger and donggui. They also sell salt baked sweet potatoes. Other dishes are tasty also. Service is fast and good
Ginger Chicken is amazing! Will always be back!
Food is good but can run out. Best salted chicken I have eaten.
Limited dishes but fresh, good taste and quality. You hv to make reservations since there’s 5 tables only
Price has been increase to Rm 37-38 per bird . Taste is still good .Can dine in . Better call for booking on Salted Chicken before u visit direct .
I asked the worker when will our food be served because we waited for a long time and they served the food to the customer that came later than us, then the worker replied me with an impatient voice. We are not rushing, just wanted to know when will our food be served, and that is rude and unpleasant experience to me. But the food is good.
This place was a surprise find for us. Since it was only the two of us we ordered the regular salt baked chicken (their signature dish), pucok paku with salted egg and sambal petai. To our surprise all three dishes were to our liking. The sambal was excellent. The ginger to accompany the chicken was a great combination. The pucok paku was nice and tender, goes well with the salted egg. Seems that they have other extraordinary dishes that we will try in our next trip there.
Chance upon this place. Wood smoke burning at front of Restaurant attracted me. Famous for its Salt baked chicken over wood fire. Had pucuk paku vege and kau yoke with the salt baked chicken. Pretty good. Rm68
My opinion towards this village seating environment but city$rate Chinese restaurant comfortably hid in the small town of Sungkai, Perak, the chicken is too dry when the paper wrapper was removed and chopped for serving. The restaurant owner should have found that the correct way of wrapping is using aluminium foil to lock the wonderful 👍 and awesome juice and aroma from escaping, save for the tenderness that can be preserved accordingly. One more thing, the demand seems greater than the supply, this is because of the cooking method depend on traditional wood burning speed 🤪, my suggestion is if more woks added, then extra output of chickens can be available. The only wok as I can see now has limited numbers of birds 🐔 they found difficult to send to the tables every time.
Their dry type sambal petai is delicious!
Sadly theres no more chicken available for sale. All chicken available or seen at the shop have been booked or reserved. Very unique way of cooking the chicken. We ordered pork yam, two kind of vegetable and the taste is amazing. Hopefully in future we will be lucky with the chicken.
Inside dry no juicy only ginger taste it RM 35.00 and yesterday try Menglembu Ipoh taste better only RM 23.00 small sized like Sungkai.. Sorry bye bye
We came here for lunch based on Google’s review BUT we was extremely disappointed with the Salted chicken as it was too dry and just have the taste of salt and ginger, you can make your own is better or even normal roasted chicken taste better than this salted chicken.Entire meal only potato and spring roll are nice. The rest just overrated.Price wise : slight pricy overall cost RM 130 , I can get better dishes in other places with this price. Here 1 salted chicken cost RM 35 - small and dry (the reason for being too dry I think it’s because they just using paper to wrap during baking, didn’t see any aluminum foil wrap to keep the chicken juicy and tender..)Anyway, I can get super nice salted chicken @ RM 25 bigger in size , juicy and taste super good.
Excellent salted chicken and other varieties of Tai Chow dishes. Must try the salted baked sweet potatoes too.
Traditional way to bake salted chicken, using wood fire.
The chicken is really good and different from what I usually have at other places. I would totally try again but the smoke there is suffocating. There is also a good amount of ginger to have with the chicken. Must try!
Excellent local food, signature dish is their traditional cooked salted chicken using firewood. Book before going else a long wait.
Salt baked chicken RM35.00 each. Stuffed with minnced ginger. Eat with the minced ginger as a condiment. Baked sweet potato available too.Very basic facility and food is tasty.
1st time dine. Chicken re nice. Suitable for group of 3 or family as they sell per bird. Price re reasonable, 35/bird.
Not suitable for kids ! Poor ventilation , smoking soak into your eyes while eating the delicious salted chicken. The paku veg is ok too . Let’s down in the poor environment of this restaurant only.
Really great salted baked chicken. They really live up to their name. Famous around these area. A must try. Its really hot but worth it. Really enjoyed it with a glass of beer
Heard about this small town home cook food restaurant, including its famous salt-bake chicken, for a long while and went there for early dinner. The restaurant is next to a school and quite easy to find. First impression was the wood pile in front of restaurant and the large cast iron wok/kuali used to cook its famous dish, salt-bake chicken (to avoid dissapointment, order in advance). Restaurant itself is quite a simple small town type of restaurant. Dishes ordered were village dishes not common in commercial restaurant. Food wise, taste is good, unique but not extra ordinary. Price is above small town type of restaurant; more of city restaurant price. Feeling is neutral in term of return visit.
So satisfying and enjoy foods served here. Salted chicken prepared the olden way, chicken was soft and taste just nice, not too salty at all. The four coener beans, sambal petai are highly recommended, tasty and not spicy. The environment maybe a bit smoky, but worth the adventure 👍🏼
Advance order to avoid disappointment. The salted chickens are mostly marinated with minced ginger.Special request needed if want to marinate with danggui (当归)Must also try their baked sweet potatoes, sweet and salty taste, simply irresistible!
One of the best family-owned restaurant in Sungkai, Perak. Highly- recommend dish, is the ginger-marinated salt-baked chicken which is made to order. The petai with dried shrimp sambal is also awesome!
Can give a try for the unique way of cooking by using firewoods instead of charcoal or gas found in night market. Taste wise is OK with bit of wood fragrance but not so obvious, other wise, just like normal salted chicken.
This is easily one of the best salted chicken youll ever tasted, cooked using traditional method, wrapped in oil paper and tossed into heated charcoal unlike any other spots that are very "tourist" like. In order to get a taste of this savory salted chicken, you better call in advance to book first
Delicious food and traditional salty chicken, very nice owner and staff, strongly recommended
Food is good and price is reasonable. Highly recommend the fried "sausage". You can even buy the frozen one & bring home, reheat in the oven or non stick pan when you want to eat. Owners are friendly.
Homemade style, taste nice and so salty.Different with other in Ipoh
Food was average and way below my expectations. Photographing is not allowed, cant take away, cant get more than 1 sweet potato for 1 table. SUPER EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!
A bit pricey for a small chicken but the taste is superb! The dried shrimp sambal kacang botol is good! Revisit after 2 months. The chicken taste is still superb. Ordered paku sambal and loved it so much. Also tried the wild mushroom, very nice.
Need to reserved before you go. We did reserved the salty chicken, but when we arrived found out the table is not enough, there are group of China tourist reach in the same time. In the end we take away the salty chicken.
Apparently Sun Kee is well known for its salted chicken. Tastes good, but its different from Ipoh-style salted chicken. This one is closer to smoked chicken. Price is reasonable - comparable to similar dishes in the cities. The proprietor is very friendly. Its a good alternative stopover to Bidor or Kampar.
