Restaurant la gauloise in Nice

Cabillaud aux légumes du marché.Le cabillaud était parfaitement cuit et excellent. Dommage que les légumes étaient bien trop fades et ne semblait pas venir du marché mais du congélateur ! Je n’ai pas retrouvé le goût de la carotte. Car elle n’avait aucun goût, Les haricots et petits pois étaient surgelés, normal puisque ce n’est pas la saison, les pommes de terre, « grenailles » elles, semblaient venir du marché. L’aïoli était parfait. Le vin excellent. Prenez le temps d’éplucher les légumes et de les assaisonner, cela améliorera considérablement ce plat qui était au demeurant très bien présente.

The food was good but not great , I think there were too big pieces of onions in pasta ( for me overall I would return for seafood 🦞

Kleines , sehr unscheinbares feines Restaurant. Fischliebhaber werden hier bestens versorgt. 4 Fleischgerichte gibt es auch. Hervorragende Weinkarte. Service top

The second best meal we had in our stay in Nice. Its a little further away from tourist central, but worth every step.

Déjeuner en famille dans cette brasserie nicoise renommée. Belle carte bistrot proposant une cuisine méditerranéenne généreuse avec un large choix de produits de saison. Très bon rapport qualité prix et un service au petit soin.

drove to this restaurant from other part of nice to try out for lunch.immediately found out that some images on reviews were not on current menu. simple explanation is they serve local seasonal seafood.we wanted to try oysters but it was not available so we ended up getting octapus, muscles and local fish.it was stunning. Octapus simply melts like cheese and tastes amazing. muscles are out of this world - who would have known.recommend them to all tourists and locals!!! A+

Un bon restaurant de quartier avec une équipe au service super. Une belle carte avec plats traditionnels francais et niçois mais je doute de la fraîcheur de certain produits (surgelé?Sinon coup de coeur pour la daube à la joue de boeuf et gnochi (très copieux).

Amateur de poulpe, n’hésitez pas !Nous avons rarement mangé un poulpe à la fois cuit, tendre et savoureux.La plancha saumon /Calamars est aussi un régal. Les autres plats ont également l’air appétissant.En tant que local je peux dire que les prix sont normaux pour la Côte d’Azur.Le service est très bien.Réservez pour éviter d’être en bordure de Tram.😉

Nice food service ok

Great fresh seafood, very good service. Portions are huge, so think sharing. We chose it for the 🦪 oysters, still everything else was awesome. I recommend booking a table in advance - we used the option available in Google few hours before and glad we did, restaurant was full when we arrived.

What a place!!!!Some friends suggested us this place and we definitely werent disappointed. Quite the opposite. We knew the food was good. Thats underestimating it!!!!Off the tourist area and the tourist place of the Centre de Ville, we had the best meal ever in Nice! A fusion of French cuisine mixed with mediterranean flavors and some Asia in it too...The best home made fois gras you could eat! A delicious grilled octopus with hummus (perfect combination)! An amazing and different beef tartare with truffle! and we ended with an incredible ile flottante.And the perfect service just made it the perfect evening out.A place we strongly recommend and cant wait to be back in nice to go back again.Bravo!

The tartare thon à la japonaise is beyond great, highly recommend! The seafood was fresh and nothing is too expensive. We were 4 and each one of us spent around 20e for a total of 1 entree, 2 main courses, 6 oysters, 6 shrimps. We were fairly full and didn’t need any dessert.

Great quality fresh seafood at an affordable price!! Will come every time im in Nice!staff are very friendly and helpful too!

The duck magret was out of this world

Generous portion of seafood linguine and their oysters are also fresh. Linguine itself could be more al dente, other than that it’s so good. Staffs are helpful and kind. Even we didn’t speak French the man who served us were still trying very hard to let us understand what he’s taking about.

We drove quite far to this place as reviews were good. Had a really bad experience with the service. The waitress was really rude . She didn’t seem to like the fact that we weren’t just yet ready to order mains after having ordered some oysters and beer as starters . Completely ignored us inspire of us calling out. We were so upset, we asked for the bill and left . Shame , don’t go there for service . Truly one of the worst experience during our 2 week stay in south of France

Seafood is where it is at here, be sure to try the grilled prawns. Service was good and prices were more than fair for the portions.Recommended!

I had an excellent experience here. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating to my limited French. The food was superb and at a reasonable price compared to restaurants which are closer to the waterfront. I would recommend this place to a friend. Merci!

Excellent French food. Visited twice. A few communication problems, but worth the effort. Moules mariniere very good. Salmon with Calamari and salad enjoyed by my wife. Octopus main nicely done. Enjoyed the Cotes de Provence red wine. Bread rolls to die for.

Nice place, excellent service, fresh seafood. Very conservative meals, which could be good or bad. This is a lovely place to take parents to get local seafood dishes; not so much if you are looking for dishes that burst with spice and flavor

Today is the last day of our stay in Nice.Previous couple of days we’ve had very bad experiences of food in Nice. BUT tonight in La Gauloise, it’s the freshest and reasonable price seafood we’ve had!!! Also amazingly large portions and so so so tasty!!! Staff were helpful/friendly and we were well looked after ❤️It’s not in the center of the touristic area, but it’s just outside of Liberation light railway station. Very easy to access!Thank you for giving us a good memory in Nice 👍🏻If we ever comeback, will definitely come again❣️

This is a really excellent seafood restaurant. Been going there occasionally for at least the last few years. Last week took a friend and had the most wonderful meal and service. Sitting outside is good as no traffic, just the Liberated tram stop. My friend who is such a pain to find a good place to eat congratulated me on my choice. Totally recommend

We initially went to la route du miam for diner but sadly discovered that the place was fully booked. Luckily the owner kindly recommend us to la Gauloise and in her words this restaurant has the most " clean taste and correct technique " of French cuisine.The food is very reasonably priced. The owner very patiently explained the menu to us in English. ( yes, theres no English menu and almost every guests there were locals expected us, which is a really good sign in my opinionI ordered the chefs recommendation a white fish with sausage meat on top. The fish was cooked perfectly and taste fresh. My husband adventurously tried a beef tripe stew and we both loved it. ( believe me, it takes some skills for him to appreciate sweetbreads.)Overall, one of the best restaurant that we encountered so far in Nice. And I highly recommend that anyone who wants to step out of the old town Nice tourists area to enjoy some authentic local food to give it a try!
