Restaurant Tandory - Asian fusion restaurant in Montevideo, Uruguay
Amazing
Tandory is a restaurant where I had the pleasure of experiencing food as a pure art form.Every single part of the meal has its vision on how it should come across and be, and offers a unique artistic statement from the Chef. From the very first entrée, before your starter, which for us was a soup with a distinct coconut taste, a creamy cheese spread to have with your bread, and a delightful hot sauce. We enjoyed a brie starter which came with green leaves, sweet sides and sauce, it was fried and gooey and incredible.I enjoyed the rabbit for the main course, which came with a very homely and rural tasting sauce with peppercorns, and vegetables that had their own statements, and a delightful puree that shared the same ideas as the soup from the entrée.For dessert, the nemesis chocolate cake with orange mousse was like eating rich chords played with all ten fingers and the sustain pedal on a piano. Each mouthful had a long impression that allowed each flavour and texture to present itself to you in order and take their time to fade away. Definitely something to take your time and savour every mouthful with the respect it deserves.Taken as a whole, the meal played out like a symphony, with certain ideas re-appearing in later courses, and every single part of every dish had its own uniquestatement, vision and idea of what it itself was. This place is beyond food, it is cuisine and art. I am just as impressed with the meal at Tandory as I am seeing my favorite musicians play music live, and I must recommend this place for anyone who enjoys art, to experience the vision of the Chef. And to add, the waiter was very informative, had a great grasp of not only English and Spanish, but also Portuguese, and really helped with his recommendations.A superb restaurant, a must visit.
Amazing. I went to Tandory and tasted Cheffs Gabriel amazing food in 2012, if I am not wrong about it, with 4 more brazilian friends that traveled with me. Weve tasted the wonderfull Springs Roll, the Rabbit au salty Chocolat, the Salmon and more. It was an amazing and very tasteful unforgettable gastronomic experience that I want to do again soon.
This is one of the best restaurants in Montevideo. My wife and I love the many flavors used in the food. Our taste buds are always happy to visit this restaurant. Weve never been disappointed with the food and the service is excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Special, author, fusion cuisine. If you are up for a journey into a passionate cuisine that fuses European and Asian cuisines, this is for sure your place to go.
Best dining food in MVD. Great service as well.
best duck in Montevideo - plus good service and exquisite presentation
Absolutely great place to eat in Montevideo. Fusion cuisine, lovely music, excellent service and omg the flavors! The food was out of this world, absolutely amazing.
Authentic Indian flavours Adapted to local spice level. The flavours will take you to india. The rest of the menu is realy good too, you cant go bad with this restaurant.
Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Good Price... Amazing Resurant
Amazing! My boyfriend and I went there on our Anniversary. The place is dimly lit and very romantic, fantastic for a date. The staff is super attentive, warm, and polite. The food is incredible. We loved the wine selection. Its a bit pricy, but well worth it!We will return.
Nice, but somewhat overrated. Uncomfortable chairs and tables too small.
Amazing experience! We loved it and recommend it!
Exceptional experience! Excellent service. Stunning food and wonderful atmosphere in this neighborhood gem of a restaurant. Beautiful and thoughtful contemporary creations using local ingredients. Highly recommended!
This place is go out of your way to eat here good!Im usually a bit leary of fusion restaurants but this place really does something memorable. Service was also excellent, Carlos made excellent recommendations and was fun to joke around with. Mainly locals eating here but very English friendly as well!
The nordic gnocchis were among the best pasta dishes I’ve had in years. The orange mousse was also top-notch, though the chocolate cake below was too sweet and dry. A bit on the expensive side, but definitely worth it.
I saw this place before my trip to Uruguay and decided to make reservations online 10 day before I left. I was not disappointed. Nice small manageable menu and it comes on an I-pad so it has multiple languages and pictures. The staff is multi lingual and very professional as well as friendly. Food was fantastic. Some mixtures of different cuisines all beautifully presented. It is a cozy little house converted to a restaurant beautifully decorated. Its wise to pay by credit card if you are using a credit card from outside Uruguay it will save you the IVA taxes. The staff will point this out if you forget. Lovely place to dine.
Fantastic place to eat in Montevideo! Delicious, fusion menu and friendly service (my lovely server, Virginia, speaks English.). Will go here again, next time I am in Uruguay!
Truly the best food I had in Montevideo till day. I loved their in house breads, sides a d what should i say about their dishes. So good and mouth melting. I have recommended this place to all my friends. I have found this place while walking in pocitos a d its like a gem hidden in the lanes of pocitos. I loved it.
Outstanding. Delicious food and excellent service very much worth the price.
Amazing experience and food. Highly recommended! Call ahead.
Apparently the restaurant is in a dodgy location, because they keep the door locked and you have to ring a bell to be let in. Stunningly, as I, (dressed like James Bond on his day offapproached the door to step in behind another couple, the waiter who let the couple in swiftly closed and locked the door on me!! I tried my best to take no offense and after a few minutes someone else opened the door and let me in. The small dining space is the living room of an average house, all indoors with big windows to the dark and deserted streets outside. The guy who let me in locked the door behind me and when I asked for a menu he gave me an iPad to browse. There are way too many dishes on the menu, none really Indian, and all looking small and overwrought in pictures but also hellishly expensive, comparable to pretentious NYC and London nightspots. I was still willing to give it a try, but they told me that there was only room in the basement. At that point I decided to take a hike, thinking that if I’m going to spend $80+ on dinner, I want to be in a beautiful place (preferably outdoorsand I want to be treated like a customer and not a lowly subject. There is no food in the world worth being treated as such and the arrogance of an obscure “fusion” restaurant in an obscure neighborhood in 3rd world South America is really something that ought to inspire cultural anthropologists. I did not get to taste the food and I don’t regret it one bit.
A wonderful experience. Started by having the chef welcome you by the table and suggest you a tailored meal from his assortment of signature dishes along with wine pairing. Amaxing price for such a high quality dinner and superb service. The melon risotto is a work of art.
The samosas are so good! The staff was very friendly and it was a great place for dinner in Montevideo. Definitely on the pricier side of things but worth it.
One of the best restaurants in Montevideo. Delicious fusion food and friendly service.
Wow! One of the best restaurants in Montevideo!Great ambiance, fabulous food and very friendly staff / chef!Highly recommend!
A very interesting and adventuras menu. The combinations of flavors were absolutely delicious. The Red Nan with banana and coco rice beneath a perfectly cooked piece of fish was a delight and just slightly sweet on the pallet. The meat had a deep rustic flavor that I hadnt tried before and my wife and I were fighting for the next bite. Truly well done, boutique, small and intimate. Very recommended.
Was trying to find a good option of Asian fusion food on my trip to Montevideo and this restaurant came out. Was a walking distance from my hotel so I decided to go. Well, when I arrived there was a couple trying to access without reservation, it seems that is a huge mistake due the restaurant was completely packed. I was a little more fortunate and due I had some time absolute could wait for a table. Service is impeccable, provided good advise on the different options in the menu. I did a couple half tapas (not everyone is available in half), good options but didnt killed me... For main got the duck, perfect combination of flavor and portion size, enjoyed with a good wine. When dessert time came, well I made the mistake of trying the tasting option with a couple of lava cake (Choco and Dulce de leche), plus caramelized pineapple and choco cake with a some kind of orange cream... well that is absolutely a No Go! Try something different. Overall was a good option to spend a nice dinner.
Great food. Its a more expensive opcion than other restaurants but the flavor is there. The main course wasnt as good as the entrance and desert. Too salty.
Long my favorite restaurant in Montevideo, with creative, often surprising, dishes of beautifully cooked food thats seasoned with both interesting spices and attention to detail.
Great service and nice food. Waitress was absolutely lovely, helped with my limited Spanish and also offered to help me out getting a taxi. Really great restaurant and even greater value.
Very good restaurant. Everything is super!
Its menu changes regularly and always has options that are hard to choose which one to have. Always have fully enjoyed the entree chosen. Lovely setting and good service.
The only vegan option was the falafel (appetizer). A salad was modified for us to share so we didntt leave hungry. However, I dont recommend this place if you are a vegan. The food looked great otherwise.
Amazing food!! Its pricey but so worth it!!
Very nice restaurant, friendly staff, very good food! Loved their salad selection
They picked the plates up before finishing. Unnaceptable.
Great food, very different from other places in montevideo
Easily one of the best restaurants in Montevideo. The food and the place will make you return. I have come here more than 7 times and it always surprises me. And I will keep returning.
Fantastic! Amazing flavor, cozy environment and very friendly chef/staff.
The photos dont do it justice on just how cozy and romantic Tandory is. Well at least on a cold and rainy August night. Absolutely the best meal we had in Montevideo. Accepts VISA. Not much else in the neighborhood though so plan to take your taxi and spend some time drinking wine from their excellent bottle selection. Reservations can be made online.
Great food and excellent place. Comfortable and warm. Great service too! Loved it.
Excellent fusion restaurant with great food. Order by menu in a tablet, very stylish place. If youre too cheap to treat yourself to works of art, in the form of food by a great chef, then you should go eat at a the famous Scottish restaurant, McDonalds.
Great ambiance and service! I love the tablet menus. Food was very good -- we ordered the samosas appetizer, duck breast half portion, and catch of the day with mascapone risotto. Only complaint is that price is steep but would recommend trying if its in your budget!
Good food at a higher price. A bit out of the way but worth it if you like indian food.
One of the best restaurants I have been in 2015. We were four people order different dishes, all of them were amazing. Lamb chops, shrimp, steak and pork. Great fusion cuisine.
Superb service with personal attention from the chef. The prices are high but the food and experience are both worth it.
This has to be the best place to eat in Montevideo. The food is simply amazing, full of flavor and spices, a winning combination of the best Europe, Asia and Latin America have to offer, prepared by the expert hand of chef and owner Gabriel Coquel and his equally talented team. Service is cordial, with the chef recommending dishes himself, but not intrusive. Great ambiance both for a romantic dinner or business date. Highly recommended.
Great restaurant, one of the best of the city .
Theme nigths move a little away from regular menu but is all good.
