Restaurant Sumaqcha - Peruvian restaurant in Cusco, Peru
Delicious and authentic! Dont worry if its empty, we got such good service and attention.
Delicious Peruvian lunch. The alpaca steak and deep fried stuffed chili are great.
Family place and a lot of joy around. Meals speak for themselves. The Guinea pig experience is quite unique. The juice mixes are amazing!
Came straight back after coming to Cusco 8 years ago - just as amazing as I remembered it. Had the alpaca, which was incredible, and from now on will only exclusively have it here after trying it at 2 other restaurants in the area/Aguas Calientes. Only issue is they only take cash, but lovely owner and amazing, friendly atmosphere
Merci Monsieur! The food is excellent ! The family who owns the restaurant is super nice !
When in Peru.. We had to try some Cuy and I believe we choose the best place to do so! Food was really nice, although Cuy wasnt quite my cup of tea.The staff is so friendly and passionate! We were given some of their homemade spirit as well which was super tasty!
This is where you want to eat!Amazing Service! Nestor, the proud owner of this family owned restaurant 30 seconds from the « plaza de armas », makes sure every customer has a great experience. The food is great and the prices are reasonable 👌
Lovely family run authentic place with warm service. The soups were perfect for first day in Cusco to acclimatize
Delicious food, beautiful decor and a perfect family business vibe.
This was a great place and experience! The staff were extremely friendly, and the food was delicious!
I’ve rarely experienced such a great service as this one. You can feel that it is a family business where it is important that every guest receives the best experience of peruvian food they probably can for very reasonable prices. We tried alpaca and cuy here for the first time which was followed by a house-made liquor you can only have at Sumaqcha. Even though it is so close to the main square, it is not too crowded and feels like an authentic immersion in Peru’s culinary culture. We had a great evening, thank you so much!
Such a fun family owned restaurant! Food was amazing and we felt like part of the family when we left. Must try it when in Cusco
Warning ⚠️ the owner is a scammer! If you are a foreignier stay away. I was wondering why we where the only ones in this place & now I know why! He will say he takes credit cards & then say not. Then over charges for food portions that are small and not tasting good. The spaghetti portion was maybe a cup of paste with hardly any sauce for $30 soles. This is a tourist trap & never again here. So many other better choices.
AUTHENTIC PERUVIAN FOOD!My girlfriend and I searched online for authentic Peruvian/Cusco food and found this place. We were NOT disappointed. This business is family owned and operated which was clear from the moment we walked in. The host greeted us and was excited to tell us his offerings. This was my first time having CUY and it was good! The cuy was also FRESH...so it took about 30min to prepare. Thats how authentic were talking. Loved the vibes of this place would highly recommend if youre a tourist looking for real food in Cusco
Wonderful family run restaurant. Delicious and authentic food. Would visit any time I am in Cuzco.
I ate here for the first time in 2016 on a recommendation from a friend and it was really good. So, last week, when I returned to Cusco, I was so very hopeful that this place would still be there. It was!! and the food was just as amazing as I remembered it! We got lomo saltado, bistek a lo pobre, chicharron, anticuchos, lemonade, pisco sours - all classic Peruvian fare. They were all fantastic, honestly the best Ive had, and the service was really warm and welcoming. I actually ended up eating here twice on my trip and would go back again if I could!
A really great place with local Peruvian food! The owner is really friendly and recommended us very tasty dishes!
Feels like home, delicious food and very friendly service! Loved it and would love to come back.Muchas gracias por la comida deliciosa
Family business with a great food and atmosphere. Owner is very nice and you can feel here like at home. We came back 3 times ! Classic peruvian dishes with a good prices. Highly recommend !
Great food !Tasty and large portions. Good price very welcome staff. Highly recommend
This was a lovey family run business with a good sense of humor (Please see the pictures where the Guinea Pig has a cute little hat). It was our first time eating Guinea Pig and I’m not going to lie and say it’s my favorite thing. However, the service was fantastic and everything tasted great. I would definitely recommend stopping by for the cultural experience.
This restaurant is a gem, with some of the best service & food we experienced while in Cusco! We opted for cuy al horno, roasted and the alpaca anticuchos. We enjoyed the alpaca & delicious pisco sours while we waited the 45 minutes for the cuy to roast. The alpaca was perfectly seasoned & cooked! They serve a wonderful (and spicyonion salsa with the meal, which just elevated each dish. The cuy came out, presented whole and with a little hat (great photo op). They then take it to the back of the kitchen and quarter it to eat. It was very well prepared and a fantastic experience. We then were offered a little aperitif, prepared in house by the family - A small “digestivo” but so delicious & warming, and just a lovely way to end the meal. The ambience, like the wait staff is warm and welcoming. There are so many options for dinner in Cusco - but if you want a truly authentic experience, fairly priced, with phenomenal service in a warm & relaxing setting, Sumaqcha is the place!!
If you want to enjoy excellent traditional Peruvian food, in a family owned restaurant in a relaxed atmosphere and lovingly welcomed, this is the place to go! Try their signature liquor!
We got such a big suprise of the favour this rastrant delivered!Good food for good price without doubt!
Sumaqcha is a family owned Cusco Purú restaurant, tradition Pure restaurant decoration, close to the main visit place” Plaza de Armas del Cuzco” only 5 mins walk, we ordered Panâ and Banana Juice, tasty refresh and with nature sweet, Sopa De La Casa ( Stew Beef in corn crunchyas a appetizer soup after coming with National fish dish Ceviche De Trucha (Trout sashimi in Lemon juicetasty like a new world meal, fresh lemon with tender Trout meat. The main course we ordered Cuy Al horno (roast Whole Guinea pigfirst time try, tasty crispy skin, tender meat I ever tried, with very rare herbs mixed inside of Guinea Pig. Also we ordered Anticucho De Alpaca, my first time trying Alpaca, tasted like Lamb very good:
Awesome restaurant! Great place to eat Cuy (guinea pigif its your first time or anytime, super fresh... you have to let them know in advance or wait 1 hour for them to get it from the market and prepare it. A+++ highly recommended. Service was great too.
The food was great, and the owner was super friendly and a lot of fun. One of the best restaurant experiences weve ever had!
Amazing place! The owner was extremely nice and informative! The place seemed very authentic and had a nice atmosphere. We had the beef tamales which were fantastic, and also the Cuy! It was very good, it tasted like sweet chicken. Would recommend for the cuy!! Great experience.
A family business in the heart of Cusco very close to Plaza de Armas. Kind personnel consisted of parents and their children. Their food is delicious and very clean. Totally recommended.
Inexpensive with fantastic wait staff. Had the guacamole and ceviche with Chilcano de pisco to drink. The power went out and our waiter brought out a candle for ‘romance’. Delightful ☺️
Family owned and very good foods. Very friendly and well price.
Amazingly good local food ! And for the prices you get big plates filled with food , highly recommend, friendly owner and good WiFi service.
My son an I just ate here and this may be one of the best meals we have ever had! My son had the steak and chicken kabobs and they were tender and full of flavor. The guacamole is to die for. I hope we can come back before we leave Peru!
Fresh, tasty amazing food. The owners are lovely and really nice. Initially I was a bit surprise because the entrance looks low more like a bar and not a restaurant with high chairs, music and lights. Don’t judge a book by the cover...the place is a treasure and I came twice!!! Try it out!
We loved Sumaqcha restaurant! It’s right off the main square, but it’s not touristy. It is family owned, reasonable prices and delicious traditional Peruvian cuisine. The family owns and runs the restaurant and are so friendly and hospitable. They also speak good English. Highly recommend!
Dining at Sumaqcha was an absolute delight during our trip to Cusco. This Peruvian restaurant came recommended by way of a friend who lived here for several years while doing a PhD so we knew we had to go there. The owner (our waiterspoke fluent english and helped us pick a perfect meal for our evening. He is undoubtedly the friendliest man we have met during our time here, if you have the pleasure of meeting him you will leave with a smile.I ordered the Rocoto Relleno and my partner had a beef dish, and we shared and avocado salad for an appetizer. Both entrees and the app were excellent dishes, the beef in my partners dish was perfectly done and the Rocoto just had a fantastic crunch to the exterior then almost a donut texture to the batter. The pepper had a good level of spice and the interior was packed with meat, peas, spices. The flavor and texture was all there and it was utter deliciousness, and did I mention you get two of these? Both entree dishes had a good healthy side of veggies which I have sorely missed from my diet back home and was happy to have in this town of endless meat and potatoes. Our dishes were great however I did find myself sitting at our table jealous of all the people around us because basically everything coming out of the kitchen looked superb and well plated. I would have eaten here at least two more times if I had found this place sooner. The vibe is warm and friendly, music is not to loud and mostly Peruvian themed. The Restaurant is clean with a great bathroom.Prices were good around 20-35 soles per plate drinks were 4-10 soles range. This is a great place, go here!
Good option if you want Peruvian food. Fair price and the staff is very friendly.
Delicious food and welcoming atmosphere.its a family owned restaurant, which I love. The owners kids were eating homemade pie while watching “the Grinch”. I ordered the Papa rellenas and my boyfriend got the alpaca steak. Both blew our minds. Most authentic meal yet. Please visit this restaurant, you won’t regret it!!
A cozy & comfortable restaurant. The owner was very hospitable and food was delicious.
Great place with excellent service and very good Peruvian food. The place is cozy and, at the time we were there, they had a very pleasant selection of music playing. Try the alpaca steak with quinoa risotto, it is very good. The strawberry juice is surprisingly good. The owner of the restaurant is very nice. But be aware that they dont accept credit cards.
First off, food was amazing. But more importantly, the owners were EXTREMELY kind and welcoming. When I wasnt feeling well from the altitude, they offered me their couch upstairs. When 2 of our traveling party were waiting to use the restroom, he sent them upstairs to use their private restroom. Service was top notch and they made us feel at home. Wonderful wonderful family!!!!
Amazing service! Excellent food! Great ambiance!Definitely recommend stopping here for at least one meal.
The best! Amazing attention to our questions, fantastic good, great atmosphere, excellent prices! He treated us like friends in his own house. Will be going back!
So so so delicious! Very kind staff and good prices. We loved our lunch here.
Great restaurant run by a very friendly peruvian family. They offer typical peruvian dishes (including chifa). Prices are a bit lower than in the Plaza. Can only recommend it.
Alpaca was amazing. Soup was great. Best part was the spicy onions taste great on everything. So good ate way too much.
My favorite restaurant in Cusco! I went there three meals in a row just cause. The food is great and the host is amazing! It looks like a family restaurant, they have traditional peruvian cuisine and some other options. The price is good, you end up paying around s/30 for a main dish. Get some fresh juice, theyre great too. Its just by the main Plaza so no reason not to go.
Service is spot on! And the food - OMG! Definitely order the guacamole, trout ;)
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. If you want a genuine Peruvian experience definitely come here. Most of the restaurants in the area were overpriced, but after coming here we realize that the prices were very affordable and reasonable. The service was also top-notch. The owner and server were very friendly and informative. He made perfect recommendations and we enjoyed everything that we tried. If there are Peruvian dishes that you havent tried, definitely come here. Its also a great place to try cuy (guinea pig). Its offered grilled or roasted and comes out with decorative garb. The only gripe I have is that they did not offer causa (potato cake), but thats not a huge deal. Cant wait to come back!
Great food and amazing service with contagious smiles! Inform you about typical Peruvian food and provide you with basically everything you ask for. Came here for two nights straight!
