Traditional & modern takes on Turkish dishes served à la carte or in group feasts for sharing.
I went here because it was recommended by a friend. And I dont regret going! From the moment we walked in, we were received with the best energy: Ibti at the reception took care of us from beginning to end, and she was a masterclass of what good customer service should look like.We had some appetizers (the ceviche and the gyōzas were particularly goodand then to the main courses. I was impressed by the Tataki... I strongly recommend it! The octopus was also delicious, and they were both great portions to share. The sushi, on the other hand, was fresh and tasteful but I wouldnt go here for sushi. Their main courses surpassed all our expectations. Finally, the atmosphere is great: the place looks beautiful, it feels cozy, theres a nice energy and we were treated like frequent customers. It was lovely!
The food was so good, really an exceptional place for sushi!
Beautiful experience amazing foodRecommend to try the octopus
I love Kokochi! From the Delicious food to the amazing stuff! The resturant itself is beatiful, incredible decor and art. The sushi is like a orgasim in the mouth, you can taste the freshness and flavors of each bite. The Duck was perfectly cooked, juicy and the skin tho!!! Also the Karage had the perfect crisp and was not dry like other krages from different restaurants! The staff are great people and if they read this, keep going! Your all doing great!!!
Food was good. Enzo was a good host.
What an experience! I recently tried their new menu and it was absolutely delicious! You cant go wrong with great food and great service. I recommend the roasted cauliflower and magret teriyaki :D
The restaurant has a very nice decor, genuine vibes but the food and drinks just wasn’t it. We live in the neighbourhood and we’ve always wanted to give our local restaurant a try and especially it’s asian cuisine. We were also surprised that their insta following is at 53K but barely any interactions on their posts. We did not try their sushi which could be their specialty. We noticed a section at the entrance of the restaurant that was specifically for the sushi maker to prepare sushi. All in all it’s not inedible but it’s really not the asian food we are used to eat.
What an incredible experience! The food was great as well.
The menu was changed (and maybe the chef…and it really is sub par. Most of the items that would qualify it has an Izakaya were removed, it now seems like a wannabe asian fusion restaurant. This used to be good. No longer.
Very nice Japanese restaurant!
What a great discovery on Wellington street!! the food was well presented and tasty, the cocktails delicious, the ambiance and decor amazing and a great staff and service!! We will definitely go back and suggest this place to friends and family. A must try in Verdun borough!
this Izakaya on Wellington has delicious food (see photos of the menu with our picks highlightedand attentive and knowledgeable service. the inside is nicely decorated, but the AC was broken, so we were lucky to eat dinner between rain showers on their attractive patio. all our dishes were cold, as they should be, with intricate flavors that delighted the tongue. I look forward to a return visit.
Really Good. Would go back.
It was just so disapointing ! Weve been wanting to go there for a while and from the pictures I had seen on their instagram and google, this had nothing to do. It was really over priced for the size of the portions. For 8.5$ we got 6 tiny shiitake mushrooms the size of a 2$. We were 6 and all took different things to share so it wasnt just that we didnt pick right. Also we paid 14$ for 6 piece sushi (that were hosomaki sizeand I had better sushi at sushi shop.
Nice place and good ambiance. Service was ok but not attentive and maybe lacking a little experience. Food was good but not great
Both my girlfriend and I agreed this is a 4.5 stars place, but Im more on the side of 4 stars. Very nice looking place and good service with very tasty food, but the portions are really too small (tapas sizeddespite being the full price of a meal in similar places. Give it a try, its a good experience! The soba noodles with tempura vegetables were especially great.
A gem in Verdun! Great atmosphere, delicious and unique cocktails! The staff made sure we had a good night, great service, great food and great vibes! Highly recommended ! Must try the sushi!
The food was absolutely horrible. Even in the current context of inflation, prices were excessive and portions were stingy. The staff was jolly but uncoordinated. Plenty better elsewhere, save yourself from the unavoidable disappointment.
A bar maybe, but definitely not a restaurant. The food was subpar compared to the typical izakaya you will find in Montreal. The service was also slow and of low quality: we got our meals 20mins apart. It ruined the entire night’s mood for me. I do not recommend this place.
So disappointed by the restaurant. average food, LOUD place, slow service, high prices. This new place was looking promising. We were 4 people, friends trying to enjoy new place. First of all, food style: its not a Japanese restaurant, but "inspired by Japanese food". when you get croquette de patate douce et fromage, its not Japanese. Also, the place is LOUD. I mean its nice to have conversations, but i had to really focus to be able to hear the conversation we try to had.The food was average. I mean the okonomiyaki was very good the rest was disappointing. Grilled chicken yakitori was a burger, Tonkotsu ramen was missing flavours. The service was SLOW. As its tapas style, we ordered 2 tapas per person. They took 2h and a half to serve them. yet, the waitress passed by every 15 to ask if we wanted more drinks ($$$).Prices at the time were on the expensive side, with some options at a decent price.
I loved the food, the decor and the service. I’ll definitely be back soon!
Sashimi platter was disappointing and beef brochettes were average. Took a long time to receive food and drinks even if we were there early. Drinks and okonomiyaki were good though
The food and drinks were delicious. The service was great. An amazing playlist as well. I will definitely return.
Not that good for what they say.The waiters do not really know the menu and it was difficult for them to answer some questions. Not well experimented. We took many dishes and the first one didnt have two of the main ingredients that was mentioned in the menu.Another dish was very poor in freshness of the salmon and the squids were just soaked too much in soy sauce, really to salty and poorly executed. We just stopped eating the plate mid-way.The service was very long (up to 20 minbetween each serving and we had to remind the waiter of a missing dish. When we went, there was only 3-4 tables...I cant imagine how it would be if the restaurant was full !!We had big expectations for this restaurant and it unfortunately went very bad for us.The goods : nice small place, nicely decorated. The bads : unexperimented waiters, missing major ingredients in the dish, prices dont value what is served, music much too loud.I dont recommend it.For the same price, there are much better places to try.
Lovely interior and a nice selection of foods here. I ordered the ramen which had a not too thick soup. It was good but the soup could have been a bit hotter. The tables are laced with stickers from various places which made for a lovely decorum.
Absolutely delicious. The fish and seafood is so fresh, presentation is remarkably beautiful. Service is a whole other level, our waiter Shaga, was incredible. Gave us excellent recommendations on sake (Try the Moonstone Sake “Asian Pear Sake”and the vibe is soothing and remarkable.
Ordered a couple of dishes to share. Really delicious. Great tasty cocktails. Went on a Saturday and needed to reserve in advance. The space is a bit small so hard for the social distancing.
Honestly surprised at the 4.2 stars. My partner and I had an incredible experience. Food was to die for. Service was excellent (we come from a service background). I could even have a great night looking at their decor. Those hanging Koi lights? Beautiful.Don’t let the low”ish” rating fool you; Kokochi is 5 stars.
The place is beautiful, decor is very nice.We had 1 waitress who was super friendly and efficient (brown hair, long ponytail...thank you u were great!), but 2 of the other staff members that served us were not friendly at all. Kind of affected the overall experience and vibe of the place. The food was meh.- baby squid: taste was good but very chewy.-tempura shrimp: overcooked and super dry inside.-Chicken and Beef brochettes: both good but very under seasoned, like no salt at all.-duck gyoza: not much flavour there.-brussel sprouts: good but drowning in sauce.-sushi: best thing of the evening!Sake selection is laking for a Japanese place. They should have way more option then this, pretty boring on that front. (the "boss" came to our table from behind the bar to answer our sake questions, he was the most un-interested person there. Dont think he appreciated having to come out to our table....maybe give a cheat sheet to your waiting staff so they know how to describe the sakes themselves?)Price: The price is very fair for the portions.3 people, shared 7 dishes + 2 bottles of sake, came to 62$ each + tip. They ran out of 2 things we were recommended to try by the waitress (edamames and fish). When we got home we realized we had ordered the crispy tuna but never received it....check my bill and we got charged for it!!!We were 3 people, none of us will return.
Really delicious food and wine! Hands down the VERY best service we have had since the reopening of restaurants! Will be suggesting this to ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE I KNOW as the place to go to have a great night with great staff and great food
I found the service to be rather slow, for starters. As for food, the only dish I really liked was the crispy chicken....and the serving per plate...barely something to share between...and pricey. Ive eaten better at Biru or Imadake. Sorry.
Its great. The vibe, service and food was impeccable. The price are fair, it could easily be much more expensive for a place like this. We didnt want to chose so we asked our waiter to bring all of their specialities.
Great place to grab drinks and share dishes with friends. The menu is very much oriented around sharing plates and sampling a bunch of different choices. There are many unique house cocktails available, a respectable selection of sake and some delicious plates. Absolutely loved the shrimp tempura, but the vegetable tempura was much too salty. Very heavily seasoned. They had an off menu special of duck dumplings which were really quite good. The sushi is alright, but Id say their other options are more standout. The marinated baby octopus skewers were a step out of normal and the fries, like a few reviews have said, were really addictive.Id go back again with a small group if Im ever in the area. Probably not a place Id go for a 1 on 1.
The food is exceptional and the service is even better (if that’s even possible). Do yourself a favour and come try it out. 6 stars ⭐️
Nice decor and kind staff but the food is average at best and overpriced for what it is. Maybe my friends and I were just unlucky with my selection compared to others but I left utterly dissatisfied. The baby octopus was over-marinated to the point you can’t taste its flavour over the seasoning, the ‘dumplings’ are large rolls cut in half (how are you supposed to share that as a tapas meal? Fine for 1-2 person but not a trio…and too salty, and the ramen was the biggest disappointment. While the broth and pork were decent, the noodles were already unpleasantly overcooked by the time they came to the table and just got worse. Fries were okay but they’re fries; hard to mess that up.I was excited to have a local place to go to for ramen but this isn’t it.
Excellent food!! Excellent ambiance!Great service even though if they are short staff!!! Staff is excellent! Especially the blond waiter; Patrick!Ps.: Every restaurant in MTL is understaff in this post-pandemic.
Cool looking place, good drinks but not somewhere we’d come back to.Service thumbs down: waited forever for someone to approach us for water, and again a while to take our drink and food order, only checked on us once throughout the whole meal, had to wave multiple times to get waiter/waitress attentionWe hadSengiri - 5/5, dressing was delicious. honestly should be served in a bigger bowl though, anytime one of us reached for some it would fall out and onto the table…Ramen - 2/5, really underwhelmed by this dish, broth didnt taste like a whole lot, seasoning was missing? Not sure but i’ve made better ramen broth at home…Ikayaki, 3/5, okay but nothing special, all of us thought something was missing but not sure whatKani roll - 3/5, again not impressive. Presentation was great though if thats worth anything…Furikake fries - 5/5, delicious, we were sad this was the only thing we would reorder…
Beautiful decor. I had the Ebi Tempura, Baby Octopus and the Ocean Roll. Everything I had had so much flavor. Honestly this place is amazing. Deserves more than 5 stars.
There were 5 vegetarian friendly options I noticed on my first visit. Each was delicious and I’m excited to return.
Excellent tapas style sushi restaurant! Service is very niceWell done👍
Had an amazing experience here! Service was on point and very friendly. Decor and ambiance were fantasticThe highlight was the definitely the food! Very creative Izakaya food with out of this word flavours :)
Went for lunch and was really quite disappointed. They had just changed the menu so what I had expected from the website wasnt available.Hamachi was good, freah, interesting.Everything was quite salty though.Furikake fries were good, hard to mess up there. The tempura vegies were alright, quite oily but good variety.I could not finish the tonkatsu chicken wings. They had this pasty texture, the dough on top of the wing skin, with peanut butter sauce, it just doesnt work. The dough is all wrong, the PB sauce just tastes like PB and nothing else (also a weird choice for Japanese food), and there are no flavors. With that, the items are quite pricey, our service felt really cold and ackward, even the drinks are pricy (cmon, 8$ sapporo). Not sure I feel like going back, especially that I can get Aka-Fuji or Nozy for much better price and quality.
Reminds me of my trip to Japan.Ive tried their ramen and sushi so far, and both were amazing. The place looks really nice, too! Cant wait to be able to eat inside!
New sushi spot in Verdun making all my Japanese cuisine dreams come true. We ordered a couple of items on their menu and it was DELICIOUS. The rice is one of the most important components in a sushi and they NAILED it. The fish was also super fresh, I cant wait to go back :D welcome to Verdun!
Wow... We ordered the ramen, the chirashi don with a side of fries... Not the best ramen broth I ever had but was still very good (garlicky, not "porky" enough to my taste). Fries were really good, with the spicy mayo and furikake! And the chirashi don was just amazing!!! With a great variety of fish! 🤤 We will definitely order again! ❤️
The Salmon Sando and the Tofu Donburi (fantastic cinnamon flavour!were SO good! Will definitely order again as take out, but cant wait to go there in person! This place is going to be a total destination-resto gem in Verdun. One beloved resto (Suto another. Welcome Kokochi!
Really nice presentations. Friendly staff. Good quantity. A lot of care given to the details. Fish is good but not incredible. Ramen was good. The last dish was crispy rice with tuna. A nice experience overall. Welcome in verdun :)
Just ordered dinner from Kokochi Izakaya, and it was very very good. Like well above average for anything I get delivered. The food was delicious, and the presentation was great. Quality packaging, good portions, and attention to detail. I have not dined there (due to Covidbut if this was any indication, their restaurant will no doubt be worth visiting. I ordered the ramen, harumaki, and the kokosando.
Great addition to the Verdun scene!!The Sushi was so great and fresh it melted in your mouth! We had also the wings (super tastyand the Ramen (finally a good Ramen in VerdunEven the fries were great (who knew I would order fries in a Izakaya). Next time, I cant wait to try the KokoSando!
Great taste, good fish quality and amazing team. Only been open a few days and the night we ordered takeout the team was slammed with huge amount of orders. Handled it well and made sure everyone left with a smile. Cant wait to eat there and experience what will be a fun place to eat !
