Restaurant Miwa - Japanese restaurant in Hilo, United States
Finally got to Restaurant Miwa! My partner won a gift certificate for $50 from my Federal Credit Union, and we had a wonderfully delightful time.As of July 22 masks are required to enter. We did not have reservations, so we got the table by the restrooms and kitchen. Service is mellow, not rushed or particularly fast, but this makes for a nice pace for the experience. This is a family owned business, local, with photos of family on the walls. We opted for water only, shared a calamari to start, and had three excellent rolls. Simple presentation, fresh inredients. Unlimited piping hot green tea is served on the house with your meal. Yum. The most creative and tasty roll we tried was teriyaki beef with asparagus!P.S. Cost $50
Glad we didn’t listen to the negative reviews. Excellent food and service! Standard size rolls were good for appetizers. Combo meal with sashimi, tempura and chicken katsu were all great. Others had the beef tofu and pork tofu hot pots…both were happy.
Quiet ambience with friendly servers. Enjoyed my unagi nigiri, miso soup and seafood curry.
Super small rolls for real, 6 small pieces and its expensive, slow service
Good food. A little high priced. Nice interior. Looks clean.
Great family owned Japanese restaurant! Ask for the sushi uncle!
Giant signs scrawled on cardboard, warn patrons that that no masks no entry, both doors covered in signs warning of Covid gives one the impression they are entering an Ebola lab rather than a restaurant, horrible yellow lighting adds to the distasteful decoration, there is a fearful spirit in this place as they thrust a mask in your hands as you enter and a giant sign awaits over a 2 quart bottle of hand sanitizer demanding that u use it. portions of sushi were so tiny ,the smallest i had ever seen
Good lunch spot. Tucked away so look for it 🙂
The food was really good and the service as well.
A little pricey but definitely worth it. A little hole in the wall restaurant with authentic Japanese food. The tempura batter is perfect and not too greasy or breaded. Sashimi is very fresh. The maki are fairly small so keep that in mind. We had the toro and it was off the wall amazing. Talk about melt in your mouth and tender. Definitely coming back here at some point before we leave!
The tempura was good. The sushi was so so. Uni was $26!!!
Excellent Japanese food. Lunch special for $17.95 (February, 2022includes choice of 2 protein, rice, miso soup, green tea, salad, seaweed, and cabbage. Most in a bento box. Friendly service. Could be difficult to find but well worth it.
Do you like tiny meals for high prices? Then this is the place for you, my friend. I’ve never seen sushi rolls as small as this. It was literally 1/3 the size of typical sushi rolls. They posted their lunch menu which is about half the price of their dinner menu. Don’t be fooled. Find somewhere else.
Delicious, lovely time, comfortable friendly atmosphere, and good food.
Most impressive waiter I’ve ever had. Food was amazing. Bit of a hole in the wall we randomly decided to stop at, but don’t let the mall vibe or lack of modern decor keep you from a great FOOD experience. Pleasantly surprised.(Might need a reservation sometimes, but we didn’t have one and walked right in on a Saturday)
It was a great experience!
Nice experience there. Food is Ono and Staff is always great.
Such a simple yet exquisite dining experience! The people working are so attentive and very nice. The food is outstanding and from start to finish, very enjoyable.
I love restaurant Miwa. I always make it a point to head there when I am back in town. Everything on their menu is delicious and their customer service is always on point. I highly recommend!
Very yummy, authentic Japanese cuisine! Really enjoyed the options, and variety they offer.
Very delicious food. Wagyu was on point. A must visit whenever in Hilo. Staff was friendly and attentive.
This place gives me the wonderful feels of Japan.Delicious sushi and quaint, cool environment.
The food and service were excellent! The Terriyaki chicken was perfect and the coconut cream cheese pie was unique and delicious!
Restaurant Miwa is our favorite authentic Japanese food restaurant. I had the Yosenabe, and the broth was flavored with perfect dashi. Lots of healthy vegetables in it, a balanced amount of fish, chicken, clams, and shrimp. The variety Sushi dish was impeccable! Service is always courteous, with finesse and grace. Clean and private restrooms. Well always go satisfied "regular customers."
Hidden gem. My wife and I have become somewhat regulars here even though we live on the other side of the island. Highly recommended
my parents 65 anniversary @miwa its there favorite place to eat so here we are
Someone told me that Miwa has the best sushi in Hilo and I definitely agree. Fish was fresh and sushi was exquisite. Customer service was also great.
Very disappointed this has for years been my go to for salmon skin hand rolls, literally couldnt believe the portion of ingredients,I also ordered stuffed shrimp plate with baked potato...how can you even put a Slice of kraft cheese ( aka processed cheeseon my potato , no quality standards..We spent $170.00 for a meal that was truly sad..
First time going and it was really nice, we went early so it was quiet. A few others came in shortly after us. Wait staff is very professional with how they dress and also their mannerisms. The food came out so fast and it was delicious! The prices were good comparing to similar places. Will definitely go back to support local! I got the combination special with shrimp tempura, fried fish, and the ginger teriyaki pork. Everything was great! Worth checking out and giving business to hard working people
This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurant in Hilo love the services, good food & drinks, my favorite dessert the mud pie ice cream, my favorite entree jumbo stuffed shrimp, prices reasonable atsmophere warm, comfortable, relaxing would recommend & go back
Very nice and tradional Japanese cuisine. Cast iron pots for udon and nightly special of oxtail soup. Sushi was made fresh. Sanitation was done after each seating.
Google shows a wrong address. Please correct it.Friendly staff. Clam soup was a little bland. Ox tail soup had a lot veggies in it, pretty nice! Nigiri sushi was super expensive, like $25/2 pieces. I wouldn’t recommend ordering nigiri sushi just bc it was too pricy.
First time here and I can’t wait to go back! I had the lunch bento, great combo selection at a good price! The sushi/sashimi selection is good too! Nice portions, great taste and great service!
This place was a great for a quiet lunch, and the food was delicious. Service was quick and not a long wait for the food.
Nothing Special!Food was not good. I’m not sure how people actually think the food is good.Chicken Katsu was near burnt!Sushi rice was cold! Sushi rice should never be cold!Sashimi, $21.75 for 5 slices of fish. The toro was hard and not fatty at all & the salmon still had skin on it.The Tempura wasnt crispy & the bbq sliced pork i couldve made that at home.Green Tea ice cream was freezer burnt & the crust on my pie was broken & just put on the plate!I wasted $150 at this place!Go to Sakuras! It’s better there!
Food, and Sushi was delicious..Japanese old style is the best..Ordered the sashimi sampler 7 pcs for 21.75 well worth it, sushi grade fish is always the best..Also ate the haupia cream cheese pie which is homemade not bought! Prices are alittle pricey. but, if you want authentic fresh quality tasting sushi I truly recommend Restaurant Miwa..way better than eating at Sakuras
Best Japanese Food and amazing customer service. All around great dining experience. Highly recommend eating here.
This is a japanese restaurant. They have many different types of sake. Also they have japanese beer. They serve it with a tiny glass that fits maybe 4 oz. The food was good. I really enjoyed the ahi sashimi. The miso soup was delicious as well.
Awesome Customer Service from my waiter. Onolicious dinner!!!
Delightful food, simple sushi rolls, (no fancy house rolls if you are into that sort of thing), seriously some of the best service I’ve ever had, and the yellowtail collar was out of this world. They even brought a special fork and spoon for our baby.
Excellent Japanese food. Little pricey but worth it. Very clean and great service.
Went there for dinner tonight and I really loved the meal that I got. I ordered the chicken Katsu and was really impressed with how good it was. Will be coming back for good customer service and great food.
This restaurant offers a more traditional Japanese meal. I enjoyed every minute, and found that the food was excellent. It was quickly prepared and the server was able to refill our drinks promptly. I definitely reccomend the miso, and if that dosent satiate your hunger there many different options to enjoy!
Love the ambience. Menu is great. Everything is made With home cooking feeling. Sushi is superb.
Came in close to 9 when they were shutting for the day but they were extremely hospitable and patient with us, and told us to take our time when we apologised for walking in so late.We ordered a deluxe dinner set which was reasonably priced. The food was wonderful: the tonkatsu and tempura were battered and fried perfectly - not too oily, and the pork was moist and not dried out. The sashimi (maguro - tunatasted fresh as well!Very decent japanese food with a lovely and simple environment. Will make a point to return.
A real Japanese restaurant...great food..great wait staff.. Sushi bar ( sushi chef smokes cigarettes you can taste the cig taste in the sushi rice wine vinegar yecchotherwise a transformation in time n space and gastrointestinal experience...
They have really nice people working there, and its really nice, clean and quiet inside unlike other crowded and noisy places. The food is fine, a bit pricey though.
Service was quick and food tasted authentically Japanese. Recommended place for foodies understanding Japanese food. Don’t go here, if you equate Japanese to Sushi only. There is lot more to it.
Best chicken katsu curry you will ever taste. Prices can be a little on the high end for hiloVery authentic Japanese atmosphere. Wait staff VERY friendly.
Total rip-off. If you want good Sushi do not come here. You will find better Sushi at 7-11 or ABC stores(for people who live on Oahu. I also asked for a baked potato on the side. The potato was to come with the works. Instead they brought out a small half of a microwaved potato with what looked like Velveeta cheese melted on top. They wanted $5 for the half of the small potato. I sent the potato back. I should have sent whole dinner back and gone to MacDonalds for a much better meal. Do not waste your money here. Rip Off
