Bulgarian BBQ & traditional dishes served in a casual space with ethnic decor & patio seating.
I absolutely love the placeEverything is so goodRecommendEspecially their homemade Mehanata cake🤤🤤🤤😍
One of the best foods Ive had, service was just as good.Thank you Diana.
Fantastic experience. First time having Bulgarian food and it didnt disappoint. Colleague and I had a business dinner and it was excellent. Combo Shashlik, spicy goat cheese, chicken thighs, traditional shopska salad, and fig pie for dessert was off the chart.
A very great place! Authentic atmosphere and food. Very good quality and fresh. Menu has so many options that is everyone can find something to their liking. Definitely recommend and will be back myself
Oh my!!! The chicken soup was out of this world 🤩🤩😋. We had also cucumber and tomatoes salad, also great, and grilled chicken. All fresh and wonderful. Great serving and ..what is so outstanding, is their interior vibe and classic home traditional decoration. Feel really cozy and warm 🥰Recommend for a nice date :)
Loved this place! We had a group of ten including small children, and our first time in a Bulgarian restaurant. I ordered what the server suggested (the big off the grill combo that serves 4and we werent disappointed. Im planning on coming back along with a few other people in the group.
Really good Eastern European food. If you are looking for some Bulgarian authentic food, this is the place to go. They also have a nice patio where you can smoke.
Steak skewer was best dish. Both apps were solid.
My mother and I have been coming here for years!! Every chance we get for a birthday or holiday we are sure to bring all our friends. The food is delicious, management and service are all lovely and its always a fun time when we host a party there.
We were a party of two about 6:30 on Saturday, and although our on-line reservation didnt come through, we were immediately seated although we noted most tables had reserved cards on them. (By the time we left, the restaurant was full!)This was our first visit, and we were not familiar with Bulgarian cuisine. Yana was our waitperson, and she was very helpful explaining various menu items and making recommendations that she felt would suit our tastes. She was right on with the "Mehanata Specialty" (large portion with both chicken & porkand the "Combo Shashlik" (two well prepared skewers dramatically presented).Yana was very attentive to us during our entire meal, making this experience a 5-star one for us.
Not sure whats the hype is about. But the food was really bland. I wouldnt suggest visiting here just for the reviews.
Great choice of foods.Enjoyed my shashlik and bolgarian beer.Very much recommended!
Everything is very delicious. I was in Bulgaria, and I wanted to go back there. Thank you, everything is very tasty 😋
Great place for the meat lovers.... I ordered the mixed meats for 4 people.... Great meat selection.
Server was so rude. we were only 3 people she charging 20% of tip as large party gratuity? What the hack? Even she didn’t give us water and free bread. And her face was not welcome that restaurant. I don’t understand why she work there if she doesn’t want to serve to customer. It is service job. I feel so sorry owner hired this rude and unprofessional server. And they charge 3% fee when customers pay in credit card, I have never seen this one on any restaurant too. Food is okay, not that tasty. Drink was almost water with pepsi flavor, that is not coke. That put a lot of water I think. If you don’t want mess your lunch or dinner, don’t go here. Highly not recommend.
Pretty great food, will definitely go back if Im ever in the area.
This place is awesome. Shashlik was GREAT! Ask about their Bulgarian Plum Brandy and Grape Brandy (grape brandy is close to Georgian Chacha). Great service too!
Feels like home. Friendly service (no matter how busy they are, the servers are always quick, attentive and very accommodating), great food, great music, many people come to celebrate and dance! Love it!
Worst service ever!!! Waitress wad gone for over 30 minutes, had run out of drinks and food and wanted to order more. Had to resort to calling inside to get funny questions from bartender why dont we order to waitress , then she came after the call with mood why we call inside to ask for her or to try to order!Ivan look into this!!
The food is fantastic! We had a large group and relied on the servers recommendations for mostly appetizers. Everything was amazing...super fresh and tasty. Great calamari. The pita and scoop salad were delicious. Also the peppers app.I need to figure out how to get back there soon...Im a little obsessed.
Good experience , those who like spice food , for them perfect taste . Chicken and Pork combo was too good. Must try thing.
Our go-to spot for Bulgarian cuisine. Everything here is fantastic and authentic. Great spot to relax and enjoy time together. Very family oriented. Staff is great.
Excellent authentic Bulgarian food. As good as it gets outside of Bulgaria. Awesome service and atmosphere.
Had an unfortunate experience at Mehanata. We were the only customers there and had terrible service. It was as if there was a full house around us. Ordered chicken with cream sauce and capers. There was around 2 tablespoons of sauce and around 6-7capers. The chicken was extremely chewy and over cooked. The chips we ordered for an appetizer were overcooked and had very little flavor. The order of various types of meat was delivered after the other customers food was completely eaten. Staff stated no apology for the extreme delay of food. Stated. "We dont offer free food or apologies for delayed food".
Nice restaurant. Good food and good ambiance. Ivo was very friendly and accommodating
The food looks exactly like the picture in the menu, and tastes better than expected.Went back two years later and the quality is exactly the same. Such a great restaurant!
To begin with, there was only one waiter for the entire restaurant and he was very busy to take our order. In the end, we just stopped him on the move.We asked to replace our double pork and chicken kebab with chicken and beef. The waiter said that he would have to pay a little more for beef as it is more expensive. No problem.Later he brought us an extra dish that we didnt order. But we took it because we didnt know what what we ordered looked like, after which we saw it in our receipt too. The waiter brought us two different dishes with beef and chicken, after which we saw two different prices in the receipt, although we ordered one large dish. We explained his mistake to the waiter, but he said that there was no mistake and we had to pay for all the dishes. We were already willing to pay for everything, but they didnt pick up our check for 15 minutes because they called the boss. As a result, they gave us a discount of a couple of dollars and it was still much more expensive than what we ordered. And at the end they added tips, although the menu said that tips are added automatically only to a group of six (there were two of us). The waiter said that it is a rule of the restaurant to take tips from each table. Then you should change the menu. We were ready to leave more tips, but due to rudeness and mistakes, we changed our mind. The food was delicious, we would have eaten more often, but after this incident I dont think we will come back.A sad experience.
Absolutely love this place - taste just like how my grandma once cooked these delicious Bulgarian meals.
Great food, peppers burek delicious, Shopski was a great dish, Tripe soup... you should try it. Thank you
Excellent food and generous portions at affordable prices. First time trying Bulgarian cuisine and very happy I did. Interesting influences including middle eastern, Slavic and native fare. Large menu offering terrific selection of vegetarian, meat and fish traditional dishes. Quaint atmosphere decorated like a Bulgarian taverna. Great service as well. I definitely recommend trying.
Probably dine in, instead of ordering delivery!Maybe we caught you at a bad time but my non-Bulgarian friend and I ordered food from here to be delivered to our work. It took over 2.5 hours when it was supposed to only be 45 minutes initially. We were starving but figured it would be worth it!We both ordered Chicken wraps. Chicken Wrap, Пилешки. Grilled chicken tomatoes, fries, lettuce, yogurt sauce wrapped in tortilla. She went on lunch first, and she therefore tried the wrap first. She couldnt eat more than half. I figured it must be an acquired taste, as she is not Bulgarian.I was excited to try mine though. The chicken was delicious and I love the fries inside! The yogurt sauce mixed in with the sweet pickles was just ick! Having waited over 2.5 hours for the delivery, I was at first ravenously hungry, so I did not mind. However, as I got through about halfway, it was so gross! It wasnt tzatziki sauce or our Snejanka sauce. It was just strange and kind of sweet and the sweet pickles only made it worse. The other unfortunate part about this whole experience is that my poor friend is pregnant and hasnt been eating much due to a significantly decreased appetite. She has very few cravings, one of which includes fries with feta cheese. She ordered 2 orders of fries WITH FETA.Guess what? Arrived with NO FETA and the fries were soggy and gross! She gave the fries to me. At home, I tried to put them in the air fryer to save them, but they just tasted stale by then.Izlagate ni!
A surprisingly great random restaurant for me and others. The food was delicious and great portions. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that they had like 2 wait staff and we waited a really long time to get our checks. The restaurant was so great that it was packed and definitely needed more staff. But just like everywhere else right now due to Covid thats not enough help. Although, we waited awhile for our checks and we understood that due to not have enough wait staff, we didnt wait that long for our food to come out and the wait staff did a great job!
Came here on a Sunday for dinner. Ended up outside due to a very rowdy 50th birthday inside with dancing and a DJ. Loved the patio minus the noisy muffler-free cars zooming by nonstop. Our server was attentive and helpful. And we really appreciated the fact that the menu includes pictures of every dish! Super helpful if youre not familiar with this cuisine. The food was hit or miss. Some were extremely delicious while others lacked flavor. Ask about the favorites and stick with those. Overall, we would visit again!
We had a really great experience at this restaurant. A truly top notch restaurant in the suburbs of Chicago. The food we ordered was sautéed mushrooms, beef shashlik, and beef shank. OMG! The food not only looked like art but it also tasted really good and fresh. A big thumbs up from me and Christine.
Amazing restaurant! One of the best meals I have ever had. Unique and delicious Bulgarian food at surprisingly low prices. The spicy baked goat cheese was outstanding along with the mehanata cake.
Excellent food and service. If youre bringing kids just be warned the music may contain some four letter words.
Had best experience!!! If your looking for traditional Bulgarian flavor this is the spot. From the moment you step in its as if you are teleported to Bulgaria great place
Absolutely amazing food quality and generous food portion. The atmosphere here in this restaurant is super friendly and authentic. If you are a meet lover this is your heaven! Dont forget to get some sweets for desert.
Food was seasoned and cooked well. Cant wait to go back and try other items on the menu. Service was good and friendly.
The interior is really beautiful. The place is arranged in ethno style. Balkan cuisine. Personally, I didnt really like the dish I ordered (pork steak and mashed potatoesbut the portions are quite large and the prices are affordable. All in all the place is very pleasant and reminds me on home. :-)
This place has definitely a good vibe and the food that they have it’s so delicious and tasty. If you are a meat lover this is definitely a place for you. They have an amazing Bulgarian beer as well. I highly recommend Coming during the summer because they have an amazing patio.
At the urging of a member of our group, we all converged after work to the restaurant. Little did we know what they had in store for our taste buds. With large portions for each meal, I could tell everyone who ordered was satisfied with their food and there was even those who shared take-home bags. Even as a sometime vegetarian, I found the stuffed items, and sauted dishes delicious! There was plenty of space to accommodate our group for a weeknight. And the service was efficient, and professional. Our server even suggested a few of the desserts they had in the fridge...which I was happy to take home. And finally, the design of the place created a festive, and intimate ambiance that made everyone feel relaxed and ready to eat the delightfully unfamiliar fare. I will suggest we make a special trip out to Des Plaines when we have the occasion again.
Be really careful, every picture on the menu is just mouthwatering, but you wont finish more than one! Besides the food is yet amazing, the portions are insanely large. Speaking of kitchen, I would also mention the way they serve. Besides from the great decor of every single dish, whoever designed the menu and interior, also had some great attention to details, as lets say serving plates and boards match general colors of the theme. As an eastern european (not bulgarianfan of Meditteranean cuisine, I found their kitchen as a perfect combination of those Greek notes with post-soviet traditional recipies. Something like someone added the dishes I love, to my own national cuisine and made it even better, if you know what I mean:)Mehanata is also great for parties, I love their outside patio. Although its right next to a busy road, you do feel separated from it by small decorative bushes and the fence, so at the end its not that loud as you may think.Servers are really great people here. My friends and I are coming to Mehanata few years straight, most of the personnel stays the same and they are super friendly and extremely fast.I feel like I will keep adding my thoughts further on, because Ill keep coming here every other week for sure. Thus, to be continued...
I was the first time here because my friends invited me. I was so surprised how tasty was everything. I highly recommend this place and I’ll definitely go back again. Really Delicious!!!
The food is amazing and prices are low! Had an amazing lunch on a peak summer day. Its located 15 minutes away from OHare international airport. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to someone who is looking for great Bulgarian food and great beers! The service was quick and efficient as well.
I been married 18 years with a Bulgarian lady and I know how the bulgarian food taste like is really good no doubt about it!!
Tasty appetizers, grilled Calamari is great, lamb chops as well. Side rise with vegetables had dry frozen taste. Domestic settings, Eastern European style
It’s my first time here. And will definitely come again. Food is great. They do have Pilsner Urquell - Czech beer .Only the service wasn’t great, some of us waited for our food too long . Hope that next time will be better .
Great food and service. Each plate of food looks like a masterpiece. You can share a single serving and still have leftovers. The first time there the only problem is parking. Park behind the liquor store. Wooded seats on chairs make it difficult to sit for a while. Will be back!!
Im glad my friend introduced me to this place. The appetizer with the salmon was out of this world and the shishkabobs were to die for! Surprised that it wasnt too expensive! Friendly staff, outdoor seating, and good food; what more can I ask for?
