Restaurant La Carreta in Montreal

AMAZING food and great service. Also love the tamarind drink (forgot the name). Will come back for sure
MoreExcellent food and staff.. stumbled upon this by accident but what an wonderful experience
MoreI got my bf to order me tamales and papusas. The papusas were alright, but the tamales were absolutely disgusting. He asked for chicken for me. I cut it open after I heated it and the so called “chicken” legit looked like road kill. Was absolutely disgusting, it definitely is not chicken their serving in those things.
MoreThe people who own this place are so sweet. The pupusas are so delicious and a great value. One of my favourite restaurants!!!
MoreIm very familiar about what a good fried pork is, I had the most disgusting experience I ever had in a restaurant, usually a good chunk of fried pork contains a bit of skin, little fat and the most important "meat", the portion I got was just chunks of fried FAT, I couldnt eat anything, so as an answer to my complain, the waitress and even the teller told me that they were very sorry offering me a discount in my next visit. I didnt want it a discount, but what I really ordered according to the menu picture. I had to pay for something I barely eat. When I got home, I got so sick that I threw up. I will never come back to that place.
MoreDelicious, high quality ingredients, always fresh, a must for any foodie
Awesome place, been opened for a loooong time (I was there the first time over 20 years ago). They’ve renovated since then so the looks is as awesome as the food. And it’s very affordable too! Worth the visit!! ❤️
MoreGood experience and food. Recommend réservation for weekends. They have live music on Fridays.
MoreFood is delicious and quite a nice outdoor eating area
Thoroughly enjoyed the food, very reasonably priced — try the mondongo soup, it was one of the best soups I’ve had in a restaurant in years. Pupusas were great as well.
MoreNot your high end restaurant, but their pupusas are big and delicious ! Good cocktail selection, affordable prices, great waiter service. We had a nice terrace sitting and some good Latino music at the background. Enjoyed our evening overall.
MoreAbsolutely fantastic night. Kind and friendly waiter who explained the menu to us in both French and English, delicious food and drinks, reasonable prices, and a fun little store at the back. We recently moved a few minutes’ walk away, and plan to come back often. I recommend the pupusas (obviously), the guacamole with homemade chips, and the margaritas.
MoreNever had Pupusas before and now I can’t imagine a life without them. C’est très bien!Margaritas are also really great. Service is so wonderful (thanks Nacho). Excited to come back already and we only just left.
MoreDelicious pupusas, plantains and yuca fries. The patio was lovely, staff were friendly and prices were reasonable. Would happily eat there again!
MoreService bcp trop long!! But maybe worth the wait....SInce its best bigs pupusas in town and Delicious curtido, cant wait to go back
MoreExcellent service. Great staff and ambiance. Love this place!
Some of the best pupusas in town. Decent service and prices. They even have a small store in the back full of South American products.
MoreThe food and drinks are so good. It tastes like a home cooked meal made with love and car
MoreLove this place. Friendly staff.Pupusas are super good. Pupusas is something that you should try if you like to experience new things.Fare prices.Love the horchata(drink).2022 : Went back 😋 and They now have a terrace outside (frontnice ambiance and a nice shade during summer time, realy a nice place to try!
MoreWe drive 2 times a year to Montreal just to have dinner at La carretta from Ottawa. We’ve been going for over 25 years since I was dating my husband at the time. Now we go and bring our 3 children and any friends that want to join us. The food is still amazing every time we’ve gone.Silvana
MoreUnfortunately they lost the Salvadorian touch in terms of food, the customer service is very good, price a little expensive than what can be found a few blocks away and regarding the food, it is not very good but having hunger or not knowing the Salvadorian touch everything could be ok.
MoreReally good food, the place is beautifully decorated, glad they got to use outdoor seating. Best of all the people that work here, always very friendly and helpful.
MoreFood & prices were excellent. Ambiance (post pandemic, they have done some changes inside & outwas quite good as well. The service was also good. Next time, I will visit their terasse & add music & drinks to my evening.
MoreFriendly service and delicious food. Very happy we stopped here for lunch.
Great location to taste the authenticity of Our Beautiful country El salvador 🇸🇻.🤙🏽
MoreMejores pupusas en Mtl! The food is so tasty fresh everything was cooked to perfection, The service is super good and the vibe is so cool!
MoreOne of the best salvadorian restaurant in Montreal! The pupusas are amazing! And, you absolutely need to try the plantain with the sour cream and the black beans 😍It is very cheap on the overall, so with a group you can taste a lot of dishes.
MoreTried the pupusas, loved the pupusas, will come back for the pupusas!(Beans and cheese 🙌)
MoreAt night, they usually have a festive vibe, with either a live band or simply music. The food is good and affordable.
Morebest Salvadorian restaurant in Montréal 🇸🇻 I’m happy to see all the amazing changes 🤩 staff is wonderful and the ambiance is 10/10 ! Definitely recommend, the whole menu is tasty 😋
MoreIm not kidding : best pupusas in town. I repeat, best pupusas in town. They are big, tasty, FRESH and their salsa is out of this world. Been there three times this year.Ps: choose pupusas and tamales over their breakfast options.
MoreOne of the most important things about going to a restaurant for me, it’s the overall customer experience plus the quality of food. This restaurant is the worst in customer service, we were celebrating my parents anniversary and we were having a conversation we finished our meal ( as we always dothe waiter came like 5 times (it felt like he wanted us to leavehis attitude was inappropriate and it was until after we ordered more food for take out that he literally kicked us out saying the table was reserved, come to notice there were 4 other tables available. I will not go to this place again, my experience was poor and i will not recommend either.
MorePoor and discriminatory service. We were lifted from our table before requesting our bill. They said that our table was already reserved. At that moment there were at least 4 empty tables in the restaurant
MoreI have to say the food is absolutely delicious! The presentation of the food makes it even more tasty! And the service is wonderful such a great atmosphere to have a bite to eat and not to mention the music really make you feel like your in a beautiful country eating the authentic food ! 🥰
MoreThe food is excellent, but the customer service is poor. Technically, we were lifted from the table We were at with the pseudo-truth that other customers had reserved tables. And they literally lifted my friend from the table while I went to the bathroom... To never cover said site
MorePupusa’s are AMAZING! Definitely going back and 100% recommend. Next time we’re going to try to Salvadorian poutine.
MoreThis has always been my spot for years now, and now with the new revamp look. With Live music Friday nights and a Dj Saturday nights. Its the perfect spot to hang out grab some food, enjoy some drinks and have an amazing night. Amazing staff 👌 too.
MoreIf you wanna try something authentic at a great place, very good service, food and beverages; this is the place ! Very comforting, loved the beef soup 🤘🏽
MoreFantastic vegetarian papusa! I’d recommend the flor de loroco & cheese (could be made vegan?). The yuca and plantain were perfectly fried, not greasy. I learned that you put the cabbage on top of the papusa, pour some tomato salsa on top and eat with a fork. Will be back soon!
MoreAs a joke, their tacos are great. Just look at the picture. Some shells, probably from a box of Old El Paso dinner kit, lettuce, a bit of tomato, and a small container with some sort of spaghetti meat-sauce with some potatoes in it. This is the taco version of a six-year olds lemonade stand.Oh, but the price is pretty grown up.$7 CAD for this???We had a great laugh when my mother opened the styrofoam box (huge boxthis came in and found this ridiculous "taco" in it. We enjoyed the laughter so much we decided not to get back inside and return this.If you feel like paying $7 for a few laughs, by all means, go to La Carreta, but if you want REAL tacos (for much less), just walk down the same block and go to Tacos Trunp.
MoreFast service and ok food for good price
Amazing food!!!!!! I would definitely recommend the pupusas, chicken tamal, enchilada, fried pork, and the refried beans were the best I have eaten here in Montreal. They also have their own little store in the back where they sell many latin products, ibcluding their own salsa. So tasty!
MoreReally good food and price! The pupusas are bigger that the ones Ive had before in other restaurants; two is plenty enough for a meal! :)
MoreSo I got response from the owner saying that they increased the price because of the types of containers they now use. Well let me tell you that we dont mind paying extra for the soup to be honest. But its the quality that matters most. Well the soup used to be served with lots of vegetables and meat. But this time it was only broth. Hardly any vegetables and hardly any meat. If you want to increase the price, thats no problem but at least put the same amount of vegetables and meat in it. Also you need to give respect to your customers. Hanging up the phone on your customer is unacceptable. If you appreciate our loyalty well at least show it. Keeping your customers happy will help your business succeed.Very disappointed in this place. My family has been going here for years. They raised the prices for the soup but decrease the amount they put in it. Does it even make any sense? My mother calls to complain and the owner hangs up on her. So unprofessional. And I guess by the way they respond to their clients, they dont really care about losing them. Make sure to check your soup in front of them because you might be disappointed when you get home to find you got hot broth instead.
MoreWARNING. FOR YOUR SAFETY.First time ordering with them and I ordered some pupusas. I found a piece of metal wires inside one of them. When I called them, they told me that it happens a lot of time and that they will give me 2 free pupusas for my next order. No, imagine if a kid was chewing on that or your grandparents.Very disappointed.
MoreIt would be foolish to come here and not get pupusas. ALL HAIL THE HOLY PUPUSAS!!!That being said dont order the grilled shrimp. Quite disappointed with the portion for its price.
Moreloved it, great food! pupusas are 🤤 and the tamales 🔥🔥🔥 will be back for sure!
MoreSimple, delicious, food. Very satisfying, very affordable. Great restaurant for families, couples and individuals. Ive been coming here for 8 years now and introduced this place to a lot of my friends and family. The service is great, very friendly and fast. The pupusas are AMAZING. If youre not going youre missing out.
MoreThis is yet another latin restaurant with ok food but deficient facilities, very little attention to details and zero attraction to the eye, uncomfortable chairs and wobbly tables. The service you receive isn’t that much better either, be prepared to feel as if they are doing you a favour by serving you. Food was ok but nothing to brag about or even worth repeating unless you are craving this particular kind of food.
MoreI always go for the enchilada and pupusa combo. Been loving this place for many years now. Expect a slower service during busy periods.
