Cant really say about atmosphere as went with a work group

We had an amazing lunch and a brilliant Welsh welcome from a delightful family. If you havent been, give yourself a treat. You wont regret it. Wonderful to have them all back in Penarth.

Really great food, the chef came out every course to talk even though due to an emergency he was the only chef that evening. Really appreciate that there were vegan options too, as a lot of Michelins dont. Definitely will be going again!

What a fantastic dinner! No photos included so not to ruin the experience for others, but the food was incredible. Such a fantastic service provided by all, James and his team are so welcoming, we were very well looked after for the whole evening, which passed so quickly! The flavours and textures were like no other we have ever experienced! Thankyou for a wonderful night.

Came to ‘Home’ for Weekday lunch and it did not disappoint. I had the suprise vegetarian menu and every course was delicious and inventive, the chef obviously cares that vegetarians/vegans dont miss out on the same experience as meat eaters as the food was beautifully presented. The restaurant is small with around 10 tables and features an open plan kitchen. Watching the small team of chefs was an experience in itself, it was so chilled, they made everything seem effortless and the service was faultless. A very special experience, worth every penny.

An incredible experience. 100% recommend. Was blown away by both quality of food and service. We did the 4 course tasting menu but with canapes and bread etc it felt like you got so much! We upgraded and added a cheese course also as it looked too good to decline! Look forward to coming back for the next menu!

Wow. What an incredible evening. We had the 8-course menu, which actually amounted to about 14 different plates of food! Everything was surprising and delicious, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is so special - we chatted with James and his daughter, and the place is so intimate that it really does feel like relaxing at home. If you’re on the fence about booking, just do it - you won’t regret it! The best meal out we have ever had.

We booked to go to this restaurant before they won their Michelin star, so expectations were very high, but they were definitely met! Amazing food, Amazing service. Everything was wonderful and they really made my husband’s birthday meal extra special.

Home is more than fine dining, it is an experience. The only way I can adequately describe it is disappearing into the rabbit hole for a three to four hour delve into a twist on comfort food.From the road home looks very unassuming, and to be honest we almost missed the entrance from the pavement. A "go home" button push later and we were guided into the elegantly designed modern interior, purposefully crafted to feel like you are walking into a friends (extremely well designeddining room.The carpet was fluffy, curtains obscure the road and outside noise, a small platform for tonights performance sits in front of you, where you can see James and his family working together on preparing the appetisers. The atmosphere is only what u could describe as comfy, personable and calm.The appetisers were delicious and laid the groundwork for the expected quality of the night ahead. Flavours and ingredients that complement eachother are purposefully arranged in a chorus of taste. Following that was course after course of the finest that Wales offers, and did not disappointed. Fresh lava bread perfectly baked so that its still warm in the middle, beetroot salad with feta balancing the taste to a sweet and tart, salty and creamy flavour combination.I wont mention all of the dishes as its up to the reader to truly experience what I cant put into words, but of specific highlights were the potato dish, a decadent 2 hour confit of a potato in thyme butter, topped with beautifully Crispy chicken skin and a smooth rich jous. James described it as Sunday dinner in a bowl and I couldnt agree more.The second dish that stood out for me was the pea ravioli, an amazing mix of fresh peas with a perfectly cooked ravioli. It was an excellent breakoff point for the rich dishes surrounding it. I have never had such a fresh tasting pasta in my life.The service throughout was incredible, attentive in all the right ways, subtle things such as refolding your napkin when you have stood up go a long way to making the overall experience feel premium. The communication from James and Georgia on the courses and even the informal chats inbetween truly make this a personal experience.I can see why home has been awarded a mitchelin star. I hope they continue to ascend in stars in the future.

Food,service and setting was perfect. The relaxed atmosphere in the kitchen made the whole dining experience perfect. Subtle flavours blended the dishes perfectly.

A long awaited return, a culinary experience with James and his team this time at his relatively new restaurant “Home by James Sommerin”, what a fantastic evening far and away better than anything we have ever experienced before. We had a wonderful meal at Home, a 4-course tasting menu. The food was superb and the service was (as always at his restaurantsattentive, personal, friendly and unpretentious. The chef was very accommodating for one of our group who had specific requirements.Just one small quibble and that may be very subjective and prove that I am not at all cool - the decor made me think of late East Berlin. Enormous charcoal-grey curtains block off the world and the light contrived to be both subdued and unflattering, the creeping depression it caused was, to me, a distraction from the wonderful food.

Give this restaurant a must do with your love ones and friends,Was my birthday celebration so got really spoiled with the menu and wine to compliment.British products used where possible had a great English sparkling wine in menu amazing to taste 😳 ..The halibut with caviar and home made crab crumpets were to die for,, and monkfish were incredible,, can I just say My pallet has never excepted any thing with fish before.. 👏Please try this restaurant out, you want be disappointed 👌

Weve been several times since James & Family opened their new Restaurant in Penarth. Every time has been a delight.Ive just booked for the Valentines special on Feb 14th.The Sunday Lunchtime demos are a special delight where you get to see all the special care that goes into every detail of the fabulous food.Hopefully that Michelin Star will arrive soon.

What a wonderful way to spend an evening! We chose not to open our menu envelope so had the great fun of a surprise 8 courses. My wife had let them know she was pregnant and great care was taken to make sure provisions were made.It was a very intimate and cosy experience, with wonderful service and the chance to see the food being prepared less than 5 metres away. Well certainly be back!

To be Honest the review by Gary is how I would sum up the first night at Home! James and team are taking the Restaurant to a new level of food and experience and I am sure the star(swill come. It is a whole experience of food and atmosphere that requires a visit rather than words. Congratulations to James, Family and team in returning to Penarth with a special restaurant!

Lucky enough to be at the launch night of Home by James Sommerrin. The meal tonight was just outstanding, James (and Georgiaat his very best.In the last week having eaten at The Gaff run by two chefs from the Michelin starred Walnut tree and at the Michelin starred Whitebrook (formerly the Crownthe meal presented by James and daughter Georgia was probably the best thing hes done and no doubt stars will follow. Supported by both his wife Louise, and now joined by Angharrad front of house this is truly a family affair and hence the name Home.The fact that the Kitchen was handed over to James just two hours before service and he can turn out a full service at this level on something hes never used epitomizes just how good a chef he is.There are still some tweaks to the fabric of the restaurant because the builder isa tad behind, but you wouldnt know. That said no tweaks are needed to the cooking it is really on target.There are no pictures to this review, the idea is sensory so the only way to enjoy this is to go and experience it. Your sat virtually in the kitchen, and the home atmosphere continues as mugs of coffee with family names on them arrive at the pass almost as if they are at home preparing dinner - whether thats deliberate or not make your own mind up but a nice bit of staging if it wasJames is now Home, cooking with his family in his own restaurant with no one pulling strings from behind - success is written allover this latest projectI for one wish him and his family well and it looks like all the other diners do too
