Restaurant Agava in Zagreb
Description
Privilege
Great disappointment! I wanted to bring friends from abroad for a lunch and spend a pleasant afternoon in the city center. We waited almost 2 hours for the ordered food. We paid 130EUR for 3 persons. The food was mediocre. Waiters nonchalant, uninterested... Significant inconvenience for me... I would never recommend this place
MoreA great food and wine experience in the heart of Zagreb and a busy restaurant/bat Street. We received exceptional service from Igor and Hervoi (apologies if theres incorrect spellingIgor was s great host had incredible knowledge of the wines he served, all delicious. He also made us feel welcome from the start. Followed by Hervoi and his impeccable service a trye professional. We had the tasting menu and wine pairing, the food was of course delicious and wines perfectly selected. Fabulous evening 5*
MoreDefinitely not worth Michelin star. We paid 200€+ for tasting menu and pairing wines. Service was good, location is nice but food... Plain and tasteless definitely not worth the price. We left with dissapointment.
MorePortions are too small and you are going to wait forever for your food. Not worth your money .
MoreAn amazing experience. The waiter who is also very into wine made it a most interesting night knowing the local wines well and explaining them to us in detail. Recommendations by him where excellent 👌. Food also speaks for itself. See the photos.
MoreExtremly poor servis even for fast food not for this price restaurant… they had few tables marked as reserve so I choosed one without reservetion… waiter told me if I cant see the tables are reserved… He told me I can choose one of other tree tables which one of them had reservation mark… so I quit voluntarly
MoreMichelin Star restaurant but not at the price of others you may have experienced.Friendly staff & a lovely atmosphere above the Main Street. Another waiter wouldn’t have hurt as 2 and a busy dining area often left you waiting.Beautiful food & wine 🍴
MoreI was excited to go we made reservations and when we arrived the waiter stood on the steps and looked at us. We stated we had a reservation and he said nothing we started to walk past him and he asked us what we wanted we stated we had a reservation and he then took us to a area with tables moved some around and I asked where to sit he said anywhere. I asked if they had air conditioning and he said no. I said ok and then looked around and he said sit. I was completely appalled at the service. I just left without even trying the food because of the service. I’ve been to several restaurants here and always great service. I was very disappointed 😔 we walked all that way for nothing.
MoreWe paid 650Kn each for the tasting menu and paired wine. The whole experience was poor. The bad things:- plates were cold- wine was cheap. I had better at other places for a fourth of the price.- after 3 hours, we started to leave before the dessert course- the ambiance was nothing specialWhen we left, I went to speak to the head waiter, and he did not care, shrugged his shoulders, and told me to leavePlease, please please do not waste your money or precise time at this place.
MoreStumbled across this place while walki g around old town Zagreb. Great wine, fantastic ribeye, top notch service.
MoreExcellent food & service, meat dishes cooked to perfection. 5 star!
Not bad but nothing outstanding, have added a cover charge and you can only have bottled water. Fish was nothing special. There is better around at this price.
MoreOne of the most disappointing restaurants in wide Zagreb area. Quality of service is below standard, do not get fooled with old Michelin recommendation.Drinks:Restaurant did not have our first 4 choices of vines, although vines were in the menu. Selection of spirits is even worse.Food:I’ve ordered a steak (medium-rareand I’ve got overcooked chewy piece of meat. My college had a pasticada which was also very disappointing. All in all, we paid a lot of money for rude waiters, bad vine and even worse meal. I would not recommend this to anyone.
MoreDont get the hype. Beautifully presented food. But the chef seemed to have forgotten to season and flavor it. Awful experience, you can get much better experience elsewhere.
MoreThe service was slow and we were completely ignored by the waiter. Food was 2/5 but totally not worth the money. Meat was dry and weird color. Best part was the wine.
MoreI wish I could experience the cuisine, but we have reserved 3 weeks in advance just to kiss a closed door — the venue was dead closed and nobody bothered to notify us. With such attitude I am pretty sure it gets off the Michelin list quick. Never again.
More** Do not eat here**We paid 650Kn each for the tasting menu and paired wine. The whole experience was dreadful. There’s too many bad things to write but the synopsis is:- Stodgy carbonara - tasteless and like glue- steak was cold, plates were cold- risotto course was like soup- wine was cheap snd nasty- after 3 hours we started to leave before the dessert course- dreadful ambiance- music made you want to commit suicide, decor was old and tattyWhen we left I personally went to speak to the head waiter snd he did not care, shrugged his shoulders and told me to leavePlease, please please do not waste your money or precise time at this appalling place
MoreWorst service ever! We ordered the tasting menu, and we sat in the restaurant for almost 3 hours, most of the time without food on the table. The staff was smoking in a back room and the entire space got smelly. Finally, the food was not really good and way overpriced
MoreDelicious food!!! ❤️ Really love the pasta there. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. Such a pity they dont have better deserts. Some years ago they had an amazing semifreddo.
MoreDelicious. Our waiter was FANTASTIC! And the food was lovely. Highly recommended if you are in for great food, thoughtful service and an upbeat atmosphere ( it is located on a busy nightlife orientated street near the cathedral ).
MoreNice place in old town with modern meat dishes, good selection of wines and lovely staff
MoreIt looks classy and picturesque but the illusion quickly fades when youve waited 45 minutes for a very average bowl of soup and 1h20 for your main. The staff were defensive and dismissive when asked about the delay "we busy, too many people!" Even without the delays the food was very average and severely overpriced.Go to one of the other establishments on the street level instead - so many great ones to choose from. Youll eat twice as well for half the price.Give this tourist trap a miss.
MoreI regret forgetting to take more photos, as I was simply charmed by the food, setting, and our most excellent waiter. Our waiter was perfect - knowledgeable, charming, quick, polite, and well versed with the menu and wine list.We had an sublime wild pear rakija aperitif. I am a picky eater... But even I couldnt resist trying the various starters. The food is top notch - beautiful presentation, excellent flavor, and perfect portions. One of the restaurants you must visit while in Zagreb (along with Gallo, SOI Fusion, and a few others).
MoreFood was okay nothing special, unjustified price. We received appetizers to the table which we didn’t order , at the end we needed to pay on it . When we asked why no one notified us the waiter said its normal in croation restaurant- never encountered such a thing and I’ve been in croatia for 4 years . We were charged on multiple things we didn’t expect. The waitress were rude.
MoreWe went to Agava last night, The service was Awful from the first moment. we ordered starters and main courses, a glass of wine for each, and a bottle of still water. The waiter brought us some appetizers (we didnt ask for themwhich were average in taste.About 40 minutes passed until we received our starters, during that time we finished our glasses of wine and the waiter just didnt approach our table. We were done with the very small portions of starters and we waited an additional 40 min for the main course. the food was fine, nothing extraordinary (except for the price which was).We ended up the evening and asked for the bill. Apparently, a bottle of water costs 40kn, the waiter suggested me a glass of wine that costs 60kn per glass without warning me about the high price of it (drank 2 of these for 120kn), and apparently, we had to pay 100kn for the appetizers that we didnt ask for. Before paying, we asked about those 100kn which we didnt recognize in the bill, and the waiter said that this is a rule of the place - they charge everyone for those appetizers (without asking if you want it or not). The waiter complained about how hard they work and we didnt receive the slightest empathy from him the whole meal. We left with a really bad taste.NOT RECOMMENDED. Go to every other "Nice" restaurant in Zagreb and you will receive much better service and the same food for 1/2 the price.Just as a point - I visited some amazing restaurants in Zagreb that charged the same (and even more), but I left with a smile.
MoreThe worst experience I’ve ever had. I visited this place at 14:00 and a staff said they’re having a summer break and will open again at 15:00. He told me I can come back an hour later and have a lunch. So I waited for an hour and went back to the restaurant at 15:05. A same staff told me they’re not open yet cause their chef is still not here. He said “It could be 16:00 or later. I don’t know when he comes.” How irresponsible answer is that? I asked him why don’t you call the chef and check where he is and he said “I have no idea why I should call him”. Is it normal here in Croatia? He made me wait for an hour in this hot weather and never said sorry or take an action to solve the problem. I asked him “Should I give up eating here?” And he said “I don’t know. You’re choice.” It was the first upset experience in this country, also in the world. I have never experienced this rude attitude in restaurant before in any other countries.
MoreA constant highlight on our trips through Croatia over the past 7-8 years. The food is consistently high quality, the service is very attentive and professional, the setting is great. Only suggestion for improvement: support the servers with runners, who carry the plates up and down the steep stairs; this would ease the service and make it even more pleasant :)
MoreThis was by far my favorite meal in Croatia. Firstly, the waiter was so professional, polite and attentive… really set the stage for an elegant meal. The sea bass tartare was so light, fresh and clean…. With great textural crisps. My black pig entree was so interesting… tender pork, over beluga lentils with an earthy sauce accented by a ginger, pear compote. Worked out perfectly. I will probably eat here tomorrow…. The truffle pasta smelled so good, i need to try it!
MoreThe best restaurant in Zagreb! You will be blown away with how incredible the food is. Also the waiter’s wine recommendation was spot on!
MoreI had a very nice dinner at agave. Ivana, the owner, made some very nice suggestions and paired it with some good wine. I would definitely go back to this restaurant.
MoreWe happened to just stumbled across this while sightseeing, we had a great meal and the service was very good!
MoreA Restaurant with the elegance and tradition, with a very professional and at the same humourous staff, delicious food and a beautiful position! Enjoying every moment whenever visiting! Thank you for keeping the same standard!
MoreGreat location, lovely atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food! A wonderful fine dining experience with elevated Croatian specialties and dishes using local/seasonal ingredients. The octopus was the best I had on my entire trip through Croatia. The service was excellent, made great recommendations and never had to ask for anything, they were always one step ahead. Only wish we were hungrier and could have tried more!
MoreThis is a really good restaurant, especially if you get bored of eating Indian or street food. The place is a bit on the higher end than the others on the Tkalčićeva Street, but its worth it.The waiters are really amiable and professional and they take their time to explain in detail the menu and answer any of your questions. They have really exquisite food and great cocktails.
MoreLoved this restaurant. Amazing service and food. Great location. We started with a fish tartar & raspberry bon bons, then shared the asparagus risotto and tuna salad. everything was superb, even the wine recommendations! This is a must do.
MoreAmazing meal. Some of the best flavor combinations I have ever had. Sous-vide duck was exquisite.
MoreBest in Zagreb, we had the 5 course sampler, with one.wine pairing for my wife. The food, wine and service was the best since we have been Europe. 5 stars is not enough. Thank you for a marvelous evening. Hvala!
MoreBeautiful fresh food and the service is simply amazing. They make you feel so special, like youre the only one in the restaurant!
MoreHigh class service, tasty food, enjoy all dishes
Lovely restaurant in the busy street full of bars. We tried local Croatian food, had 2 bottles of wines, mains and desert - everything was great. Best of all, amazing service and recommendations from our waiter. Come here if you want to experience Zagreb’s good food.
MoreThe ambience was very classy and the service was prompt and professional. The waiter’s wine pairing recommendation was also spot on.I had the charcuterie platter with bread to begin. The platter was alright but the warm, crispy bread stole the show. Followed this up with pasticada, which was absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, the sauce had a kick and the gnocci was a perfect accompaniment. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience.
MoreIts a Michelin recommended restaurant but maybe because I had high expectations so I was a bit disappointed with the dishes. Overall the meal was decent. The appetizers were good, but my main, the tuna steak, could be better.
MoreCentral location on Tkalčićeva street. Although this pedestrian street can be quite busy with people walking up and down, the restaurants raised patio is very peaceful, calm and comfortable. The service was excellent in terms of professionalism, knowledge and friendliness. The wine we were recommended was just right to match the menu and the warm weather. The starters, which we shared, were a little rustic but very tasty, fantastically typifying the variety of Croatian cuisine. I was not so impressed by my baked octopus (needlessly cut up, undercooked so still a little stringy, overpowering tomato sauce), but my friends dishes looked more refined. The desert was good, but the semi-fredo was more just standard ice-cream. Very good, not perfect, but certainly worth a visit when in Zagreb.
MoreFood was excellent. Friendly staff. Very nice location! Prices are reasonable
Very elegant dining place. The waiters walk like dancing between chairs. Excellent food. The duck breast with truffles is great.
MoreGood location in the restaurant street, good food with choice of local and european medium high price, nice the terrace outside with different levels.
MoreClassy restaurant on top of a staircase in the centre of Zagreb. My boyfriend and I had a pleasant evening. The Dalmatian food was delicious and the waiters wouldnt deny any further explanation of meals and wine. Recommended.
MoreAmazing experience! The staff was polite and serviceminded from the moment we came. The restaurant is decorated nicely and view is beautiful. The service was fast and food delicious; they also offer a lot of Croatian national dishes. I would definitely recommend.
MoreWonderful knowledgeable staff and lovely food...would recommend the place for a nice rustic ambiance too. I suggest for he management to mark the stairs and refurbish the restrooms
MoreLovely and imaginative gourmet menu.Portions not big, you will want for a 3 course meal if you are hungry.Expect to pay around 35€ per person to enjoy a great complete meal! :-)
