Republic of Swellendam Restaurant - Restaurant in Swellendam, South Africa
Such an amazing experience, the food was excellent, especially the pork fillet, and island style chicken burger.I would recommend for anyone coming to Swellendam to pop in.If only an establishment could open up in Cape Town. #wishfulthinking
Enjoyed lovely house gin with sugar free tonic!! Their Smoked chicken & bacon salad were very tasty and recommendable. Fresh fresh ingredients (Im always sceptical about ordering saladsEnjoyed the ambience👌
Although the food looked very tasty, we only visited for drinks and I can highly recommend you visit them when you are in the area. One of my favourite things to do when in a new area is to try the local craft beers, and I am glad to say their Swellenbrew Larger and Ale were very tasty. Some of our group also tried the custom Gin & Tonics available which they said was also definitely worth it. Another thing I liked about the restaurant was their beautiful outside seating area, as well as their bar, and I will definitely grab something to eat next time I visit.
Every element of this bistro is exceptional. Scrumptious meals, rich coffee, excellent servers, funky lounge music, and gin connoisseurs
Outstanding food, lovely service and nice ambience. We enjoyed our visit!
Had an amazing Malay chicken curry and their gin was divine too - bought 2 bottles as fairly priced. Agnes was amazing and I think they have a winning team which makes the whole restaurant a success.
Local brewed beer! Worth the taste, time, view and ambiance!
Amazing food and portions are big worth the money
Wonderfull tomato bredie on a rainy day. Friendly service by Runaldo. Trendy interior. Food arrived within 5 minutes. Will be back!
Venue is nice, good atmosphere. Pizza was average, not horrific but nothing to rave about.
Food fantastic.. Service absolutely excellent. Nothing is too much for the staff. Peggy our waitress - 5 star 🌟
The place has a lovely ambience and the meals were wholesome.I have to admit that the lamb curry was a bit too sweet for my liking but I guess thats what a traditional curry tastes like in Swellendam:Service was warm but a little too slow for my liking.
Food was amazing, complimented by the atmosphere.
Wow. Very relaxing atmosphere with amazing food choices & creative names on menu to make us lauch. Best part was the: build your own gin-tail. My boyfriend and I went for a date night, the gin amazing, music was calming and romantic, the pizza: Salige Staatmaker, which we shared, unfortunately our sweer chip werw never made or servied.⁸
We stopped here on our honeymoon road trip and wow. We were hesitant due to the prices but the food was so worth it. And if you like Gin then this is the place to be because the options of endless and it’s fun to build your own little cocktail. The burgers were impeccable and juicy. Would definitely visit again.
Live music, good quality pizzas, great service. We will be back!
Best Bobotie and Currie lambJust a bit dissapointed in the fact that our bottle of wine was not poured into the glass container in front of us, and that it definitely was not 750ml
One of the best restaurants we’ve come across in Swellendam. It did help that the weather was perfect which made it a really wonderful experience sitting outside under the oak trees. The restaurant is on what seems to be the more trendy street in Swellendam catering for tourists or visitors. You could hop from establishment to establishment, with the museum and other boutique stores in the street. But let’s get back to Republic. The setting and scenery was lovely. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We sat under the tree on couches and but ate at the table next to us which was convenient and comfortable. We loved the menu, especially the kids meals names. There is an indoor play area for little kids. The prices were ok, the food quality was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We spent just over 2 hours there relaxing and eating because it was so pleasant. There is plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, with road side parking and easy access to the entrance.I like that the menu offered pizzas as well as quality “home cooked meals” such as Babotie and Bunny Chow curries. Would love to come here more often.
Love their Gin cocktails.Food was greatThe only thing that resulted in 4 stars vs 5 was the group of people who ended up arriving half way through our meal and were so loud and obnoxious.
The waiters are very friendly, the restaurant is well located and the food well presented and delicious.
Wow, wow,wow...fantastic ambiance, beautiful setting and stunning food. Thank you Luciano and team for making our supper visit so memorable. If, "eating with the eye" was ever a true expression, the Republic Restaurant has it down to a fine art. The food doesnt only look delicious but tastes stunning. We have had burgers and pizza in many places before but here you wont go wrong. The soup of the day, if ever you thought soup couldnt be rich, creamy and tasty, visit Rebuplic Restaurant, we had potato and leek, with baked bread, The Best ever! Well worth a visit and you wont be disappointed. Stunning sitting outside under the veranda with huge fire place going or sitting under the oak trees or even inside(with another fire place), it was all very satisfying to have had such a "lekker" experience. Thank you again staff of Republic Restaurant Swellendam, Luciano.
Driving past looking for a place to have lunch. We decided to stop off as the place looked sort of trendy.decided on tomato bredie.Wow this meal was totally awesome.the nearest other tomato bredie I had was my grandmothers.both waitresses were also very professional and also had a very good k knowledge of the history of Swellendam.10 out of 10 for you establishment.
Wow. Agnes, our waitress, was sooo awesome. A fountain of historical knowledge and so super friendly. Gin is a win and food was fantastic
A wonderful atmosphere with great hospitality. Waitrons very friendly and good service. Meal was delicious and very tasty.
Lovely gin experience! Definitely recommend the tasting! Our server, Agnes, was excellent!
Food was delicious, except for vegetables that was cold.Friendly staff.
Lovely even and great food!
Great vibes delicious pizza. Thin crust, well cooked, nice and crispy base, the toppings are well proportioned and the flavours are good. Attentive staff, beautiful bar, we had a lovely evening here. The Swellenbrew Larger is good too.
I have no idea why this place isnt rated higher. The food was delicious with generous portions, the ambiance was nice, and the waitstaff attentive. Probably the best dinner I had on the garden route.
What an amazing place and a pleasure to host our Harley Davidson Club mystery ride. I am a total foodie and can not fault the cheese, bread and spreads that was served for starters followed by the most tender lamb shank with mash and veg...Im not a lover of malva pudding but I sure changed my mind tonight when I was served it. This restaurant is a must if you in the area
Great food (pizza and pampoenkoekies). I felt the porkbelly sosaties’ flavour was good but they were too chewy, would be better as a slow cooked item. Agnes, the waitress, is a gem and an asset to the business - she made our evening!
Great coffee. Restaurant has an interesting history. The waiter who served me was an excellent sales person. I walked away with a bottle of their gin and dont regret a thing. Fast wifi. Not many vegetarian options.
Such a beautiful spot, unfortunately the service was incredibly slow, we waited an exceptionally long time for menus, service, and drinks. The food was very good still.
Excellent service amazing food. Its a must to visit this restaurant an explore their exquisite mouth watering family meals and drinks.Manager is on top of his team and warm welcoming to his guestThe chef let you feel home a way from home.Child friendly and a warm atmosphere
Feel good meets romance ambiance!🤩Trendy rebel menu with exquisite gin pairings to vibe on! Foodie gem items to indulge in and talk about. Service was superb, from waiters to management. Summer evenings to chill and rebel in...and a bottle or two to take home for delectable holiday memories!🌟
We had a truly beautiful and enjoyable experience in the unassuming Republic of Swellendam, the Garden Routes best kep secret. From juicy, 1kg Rump steaks topped with the best onion rings in town, to a local Saturday market, berry pickings, game drives, craft beer, and gin tastings, and locally roasted coffee, we were truly impressed with what Swellendam has to offer.Historical buildings have been preserved and elevated to offer delicious culinary experiences in tranquil settings. Treat yourself to an overnight stay in Swellendam and then ask the friendly Swellendamers for their top recommendations.
Great menu, hipster vibe & tasty gin!
Nice atmosphere. The meals was of a quality and the meal portions are good. The pumpkin fritters are the best! Service lacked a bit, but They were very busy on the evening we visited.
Good food, nice to spend time under the trees with friends and family!Gin is worth the taste!Swellenbrew is great.
Our meal here was excellent although the service was a little slow. Not the greatest location but OK if you want to watch world go by.
Best Gin, best Chicken curry, Cape Malay Curry & Service!!! Really impressed with the services and quality of the food after a terrrrrrrrible experience the night before at Pesli Restaurant. PS, the pumpkin fritters are to die for!!!
Great pizzas 🍕.Friendly staff, nice variety of craft beers on tap.Perfect spot to relax after a long day on the road!
What a awesome experience visiting Sewellendam to stumble across this gem of a place.Friendly staff.Awesome food. And the vibe and view are just stunningWell done!!!! Guys
Beautiful spot, delicious food and very friendly service. The lamb curry was exceptional!
Lovely spot for Gin tasting with some craft beer to try . Really helpful staff. Totally recommend a visit here.
Service was a bit slow but the food made up for it. I enjoyed the republic burger, meat was cooked to perfection and it was generally very tasty. Also loved their pomegranate juice. I’d come back if I’m in the area.
Brilliant quesadilla with just the right amount of pesto. Served warm, and reasonably portioned.Lovely setting and friendly staff. Recommended.
Our salad and sandwich was soooo yum! Loved the Saturday lunchtime vibe, so relaxed.
Very bad attention. They had no bread for hamburger. They didnt know how to explain about the dimensions of the pizza. the fryer didnt work. They dont have local beers. If you are in the area, look for a mc donalds.
One of the worst experiences I have ever had in a restaurant, If this place can call itself that.Firstly, it took 20 mins to order some drinks, they came 25 mins later followed by our “pizzas” that took 1 hour ! Now, if you are going to claim to have pizza on your menu, do not serve a bit of old flatbread with some tomato purée and cheese on it, it was plain wrong! See the photo! Does your chef have use of his / her hands ?I would also like to complain on behalf of the couple sitting beside me who’s meals came an hour apart 🤣, what is this place and how are you still in business ?
