We went to Registon Square in the evening and enjoyed it so much! At night the square lights up and has a different atmosphere. The cost to enter for foreigners is 50000 sum and for locals only 5000.We also managed to buy a beautiful Uzbek made scarf for just 120000 sum which is a reasonable price for such a touristy place.

I was just amazed when I saw this beautiful historical complex, especially during the night, illuminated by lights, when the view of it is just breathtaking. Its definitely one of a must see spots in Samarkand and in Uzbekistan in general, and I would visit it again if I get the chance!

I have seen a thousand pictures and documentaries about this place but non of them actually compare to being here and seeing the place with your own eyes. Be sure to walk all the way around the outside of the walls and visit the lovely parks. Go early in the morning to avoid the tourist herds. Rent a bicycle nearby at the pedestrian walkway

Great place to visit in Samarkand. You face history and the power of men to create and restore such a beautiful monument. Mosaics are great and the night show tops everything!

Its nice enough but I thought shah i zinda and Timurs mausoleum were better. In the evening before the neon lights come on, its very pretty lit up.

Magnificent ancient place in the heart of old Samarkand , with a splendid illumination at night. However the dress code for the historical site in a secular country is unacceptable.

Ive fall in love with the city of samarkand. And this square is the heart of it. I didn’t know about the Astronomical history that this country has. Here I did learn about it. And the shops inside the madrasa is also beautiful.

The crown jewel of Uzbekistan’s architecture, Registan is not to be missed. You can view the square from the front without a ticket, and entering costs $5 as of September ‘22. It opens at 8am, light shows are at 9pm, and it closes at midnight. Don’t forget to wear modest clothes if you’re visiting, that means no short shorts for women especially. Be respectful to everyone, including photographers, and mind your surroundings.

This is a must see if you are in Central Asia, and you should visit it soon, because Uzbekistan is becoming more and more popular with international tourists! The cost to enter is about £4 ($4.50and this is a very small price to pay for the beauty inside. The government has been working hard to restore the site to its original beauty from the 15th century! I’d advise you to get there early if possible for the 8am open time. This is very quiet then so you can explore the complex in peace and in the cooler temperature! In the evening I would recommend you return to look at it in the dark from the outside. Enjoy!

Just go to the ticket office and buy your entrance ticket from the nice ladies there. I am attaching the official price list from the ticket office. They do accept cards and we pay with my revolut visa debit card. All attractions both in Tashkent and Samarkand accept card payment. Dont buy a photo pass, its an unneeded supplement. In one of the madrassas there is an exhibition about education in Samarkand which is highly recommended. Return at night from the viewpoint in front of the madrassas to fill the vibe of the old times

Surely, the best attraction in Samarcand. The place is interesting by day, better to visit with a local guide (you can find one immediately after the entrance , contracting the price, or you can “buy” the service directly at the Cash. But it’s during the night that the place gets it’s best: some nautical light transform the atmosphere in something magical, which can have similar magic power only in few place in the world, like the Christmas lights in New York or the Dancing Fountains in Yerevan… it deserves the price it costs (50000 sumsand you’ll never forget.

Large area containing 3 old schools. We lived the history here and we loved the colored huge gates and walls.3 hours spent with my kids without feeling of it.We entered from the exit gate because we didnt know about the main entrance and it was open, so after an hour a security came and ask us to go to the office to buy tickets. When i went there i met another security who gave us used tickets and asking to buy it from him directly! After a long discussion he let me to buy it from the ticket office and he was upset with that!

Magical. Amazing. Otherworldly. I have run out of superlatives"The Registan of Samarkand was originally, and is still even in its ruin, the noblest public square in the world. I know of nothing in the East approaching it in massive simplicity and grandeur; and nothing in Europe ... which can even aspire to enter the competition.” - George Curzon, 1899

Registan (place of sands): A fantastic and very historical place. A former mosque and school for students. Part of UNESCO and “pearl of orient”. Definitely worth to visit Samarkand because of Registan, Timurlan’s tomb and of course: People and Food!

An absolutely stunning place for tourists to visit, one of the most spectacular historical sights that I have had the privilege of visiting. The ticket is around $5 and is good for one visit, the trick is to come around an hour before sunset to get some beautiful golden hour pics and then wait for night to fall when their light show begins it’s mesmerising.

I used to see these buildings and read its history only in books or at school, and I was always saying these buildings are don’t exist. When I was there I was fascinating with the beauty of these buildings, architecture, history and the people that used to study or teach here.Registan should be listed on the seven wonders without hesitating. The entrance fee is 50.000 Sum and you need to pay extra if you want to go up. This place is a must to be seen during your trip in Samarkand.Try to visit the place during the sunset 🌅

Really nice place I have visited before. Remarkable minarets of buildings stood like new even though they have been built several centuries ago. Also there is great opportunity to speak with foreigners and talking with them about their lifestyle, culture and country. Also that is great to take postive feedback from tourists. Highly recommend to visit old center of islamic culture

Extraordinary. Huge. Spend a lot of time (and take a lot of pictures.). We were there most of the day and went back after dinner to take some night-time pictures. Lots of families - kids, parents, grandparents, groups of friends.... In the day, be sure to visit Baburs Music Shop within the complex also.

Breathtaking display of art and history, a do-not-miss for Uzbekistan. The details are really incredible - both well preserved and restored. Enter the actual site during the day when you can see all the details, and then return at night just to observe the site from the outside lit up.

Beautiful architecture, amazing stonework. the main attraction of Samarkand. The light show at 20:00 is nice but the building is more fascinating during sunset as the golden colours mix with extremely well. For photographers: take a wide angle lens and telephoto lens to capture details. As mentioned by the Lonely Planet: guards will indeed offer to take you on top of a minaret for about 10$. I don’t know whether it’s worth it.

Amazing. A magnificent mixture of Islamic art, culture and heritage. It is a must! Go observe the details of the art in day light, and come back at night when the complex is beautifully lit and have a coffee and some deep thoughts while overlooking this masterpiece.I visited recently (post covidand it was sad to see how such an amazing place is so empty of visitors. It should be a worldwide travel destination!

A beautiful three Madrassahs standing distinctively on the Registan. A very busy tourist attraction, not only for foreigners but also for the local tourists. Each Madrassh has its own symbols and patterns as architectural features. Very impressive and beautiful.BE AWARE with a good contact its possible to have a nice view from the top...at night, around 6 pm in wintertime, there is a lights show, really nice. Many vendors sell their crafts. Most times you can see wedded couples getting photographed here. The tile works are amazing. Well worth seeing.

100% worth it but be aware that its been turned into one huge souvenir shop. I recommend going at dusk. Thats when the lighting is best and youll get the best photos. It reminded me a lot of the Santa Fe plaza or any other tourist center like that. The big difference I loved was the vendors didnt harass me. No one begged me to go in their shop, no one shouted about big sales. They might have offered for me to come in once, they might not have even spoken at all. I actually did buy something today and thats unheard of for me at souvenir shops like this. I love shopping in Uzbekistan.
