History museum with an extensive collection of archeology, ethnography & contemporary exhibits.
Probably one of the best Romanic exhibitions Ive seen in Bulgaria, the local history dates back millennia, see for yourself.
Very good exposition and souvenirs shop. Very hot on some of the floors.
Really interesting museum, not expensive and worthy
If you are interested for culture and history, you absolutely must visit this museum. It has got many ancient findings and depiction of the city before its destroy, 8000 years.
Very nice. Ask for guide. This guy was awesome.
Must Musium for everyone
Ottoman part is awsome
A must see museum! Nothing more to add, go and check it out!
If youre in Stara Zagora visiting this museum is a must. Especially if youre a fan of the history of the Roman Empire
For sure I cant explain with words to share with you all treasure which Stara Zagora have long long time ago and now is collected in this Museum. This is the Brilliant of the city.Star which shining night and nomembering the history of great mans who established the city and died for my freedom today. If you have time just visit it and reed deeply and meet Bulgarian history and Culture.God bless all staff and people who builder this historical Museum!Thank you!Best regardsDanail&Mariya Marinovi
The more interesting artefacts are walking around outside. This is for children entertainment.
Worth the trip, but no photos allowed
Modern design, beautiful artefacts.
Small but nicely organized museum. Pre-history and antiquity are the stars of the exposition. Highly recommended.
Its a four-level amazing building with a lot of historical evidence. Brilliant idea for visiting in a rainy day.
Take your time to visit this place. On average 2 to 2.5 hours , if you like reading the texts and going thru each points. It has lot of history collection in it
Greatly arranged as as live ancient street.
Great collection. Priceless artefacts.
Warmly recommend this place
Very beautiful museum and good place for tourist
Very interesting place, we hired a guide and she was explaining to us a lot of interesting things. We had great experience and even didn’t have time for everything.I saw in the coments complaining about photos. Guys visiting a museum is for you soul, imagination find something that might enlighten you or bring new “food” to your brain 🕊Giving 1 star for ” I couldn’t take pictures” is a childish demeanour.
Great place with a lot of antiques.
Interesting place to visit.
The whole history is there! Everyone has to visit
Good experience, only with a good guide. Too many details are impossible to display and it is the guide role to describe what you see. I had the chance to learn a bit of Bulgarian history and I am grateful for it!
The museum is located in a fairly large and modern building, it hosts a three story permanent exhibition and a temporary exhibition. The artefacts themselves are interesting for anyone into history though nothing special if compared to the Archeological Museum in Sofia which is also considerably larger. The highlight is the Roman road, a room which also contains a huge mosaic that is very well maintained. Entry is 5 leva and for that money its worth visiting. But the bad outweighs the good and I think anyone who respects himself should boycott this place. Photos are not allowed, not even with a phone and no flash!!! So what am I supposed to do with all the info? Write it down in a notebook? There are inscriptions in English for most but not all the exhibits but they are far away and can be read with difficulty by someone with eye problems. The descriptions are flawed, what am I saying, they are blatantly false. There is no mention of the Slavs but they bang on about Thracians even centuries after the Roman conquest. Any small reference about the town in ancient texts is blown out of proportion like this little town were more important than Rome. But, of course they wont alow pics, their lies with which they fool themselves and want to full foreigners would be exposed. A sham of a museum to be avoided. There was a temporary exhibit in Bulgarian I didnt even bother with, I left in disgust.
A must when visiting Stara Zagora, the lowest level takes you onto an ancient Roman road, so well preserved.
Very impressive collection. The guide we hired made it a real living story for us!
Amazing history museum
The Roman street in the basement is fantastic
Great exposition, modern building. Worth a visit!
Really worth seeing. Great ancient section with Roman, Helenic and Thracian artefacts, including a real ancient street on top of which the museum was built. Impressive glass artefacts, golden treasure, masks etc. Good for families, although I was expecting more interactive things for children.
There is a good amount of artifacts exposed. Its a bit annoying that youre not allowed to take pictures on the roman road. Its not like Id replicate the way the stones are laid down.
A big place - 3 floors of bulgarian history. You can easily spend here 1 hour. The ticket for student is 1 leva so its really worth the cost.
Learn a lot for Bulgarian history, pretty good speaking local guide
Fabulous exhibition! Come visit artifacts and local culture from 6000 bc
To me, it is not a kind of museum that makes you drive to Stara Zagora. On the other hand, The Regional Museum is a must see in Stara Zagora which contains different periods of the region. If you are in Stara Zagora you can have a tour in here.
A lot of things to see and learn
I liked the basement floor. There is entere ancient Roman street reconstruction beneath the museum. Quite interesting collections of various items from all ages- pots, coins, weapons, gold etc. Only concern is that is very cold inside the museum, heating doesnt work enough sufficient
Tour guide did a great job telling the history of the city and region.
Unique experience! Must see!
The day of a wine🍷🍾
Most perfect building for an archaeological exhibition that Ive ever seen! It lies directly above the ancient Roman street and amazingly includes it into the building. The different historical periods are on different levels, so you can go from antiquity on the ground floor to the 20th century on the 4th floor. It has a lot of interesting exhibits, you can get a guided tour and you also can book tours for children. The museum offers good food and drinks in a restaurant directly beside the Roman ruins, clean and modern toilets as well as nice souvenirs an a small museum shop.
great displays and descriptions in English--take it at your own pace
It is one of my favorite museums in the country.
Amazing history, we came to visit from the US and this is a must go place if you are visiting Stara Zagora. Beautiful museum and the nice staff showed us the mosaics too. Charming city.
Nice museum great for some history information
Must see if you visit the city.
Ive visited the place few times, but I want impressed really. Maybe much more suitable and interesting for people interested in history...
Best museum of Stara Zagora in my opinion. I recommend it wholeheartedly.
