WOW WOW WOW!This food was mind blowing delicious. Not sure how many times I said ‘yum!’ but I will tell you again… absolutely delicious Asian fusion food. The portions are huge for dishes like the curry. The sushi was super fresh and tasty. The wait staff were attentive and I cannot stress enough that you need to share the food because you will have serious food envy.
Favourite place to eat in Forster. Always great food and great service. 👍
Enjoyed a delicious lunch with a view. Great asian fusion + tasty margaritas!!!!! please NEVER take the salmon kinilaw off the menu it was 12/10, wish I took a photo but it didnt stay on the plate long enough :Cant wait to come back!
Visited on Thursday 8th SeptBeef Bao: Very soft and tender beef, every bite was delicious.Son-in-law Eggs: Cooked perfectly, the yolk was gooey, the eggs were soft.Pork Ribs: overcooked and dry. Sauce was very salty.Overall, the portion was decent.Friendly service.
Good sizeable Asian restaurant located along the foreshore.FOOD: On the pricy side, theres a variety of sushi, curries and varied other seafood dishes. Most dishes between $15-40.LOCATION: Centrally located at the end of the main town street. The venue is large and could easily cater to large groups eg of 30 or so people.STAFF: Very attentive.ACCESSIBILITY: Wheelchair, pram, walker etc accessible with ample street parking available.
Spice monkey don’t just provide great food, they take you to a whole new plane of existence. If I had the knowledge of how to make such great tasting and delicious food I think I would be in a food coma permanently.Do your taste buds a favour and dive into the deliciousness that is this establishment, you won’t be disappointed.
The food is innovative and is of the calibre expected in a capital city anywhere in the world. The staff are friendly and were obliging when the outdoor heater ran out of gas. The stunning view over the water is made all the more delightful by the tasty cocktails. I highly recommend Spice Monkey.
Awesome restaurant! From the gyoza to the brussels sprouts (whatever you think about brussels sprouts, do yourself a favour and try them), to spicy noodles and tempura prawns, everything was delicious. Probably not the cheapest in town but well worth the price
Nice place I myself didnt relate to a lot of what was on the menu but what I had was very enjoyable. Staff were great and very patient
Great food and great service
Really tasty Asian fusion. The Korean chicken wings were absolutely amazing. The coconut margarita was really nice and the service was great.Absolutely must book in advance. It was super busy the night I was there and we almost didn’t get in. Will definitely book again. Loved it.
Pleasant service and surprisingly good food. The dragon rolls are fine, but the lamb rice noodles are excellent. It’s a very interesting (in a good wayfusion of Asian tastes.I love the cocktails as well, but I guess they’re more for ladies’ tastes.
Some food was nice others you couldnt eat staff was nice service good but not great value for the money
I cant understand how this no-more-than-average place gets 3.5 stars on Google Maps. The food was so unsteady and overall disappointing and the atmosphere isnt much more than that of an average hotel lobby. The steered greens were one of the most disappointing dishes Ive eaten (were left untouched almost and no one asked us about it), and the "chef" omakase sushi selection consisted of what I suspect was imitation crab (or some sort of store-bought simple crabnonetheless, and for $35. The music was so loud that we had to ask for it to be turned down.On the good side - service was nice and efficient, and the chicken Bao Burger and the Tofu Bao were good.
So disappointing, we had been waiting for some time on a referral from a friend. The food was very underwhelming and over priced. Korean chicken wings were over cooked and far too sweet, the Asian greens were floating in soy sauce and water. The sushi rice wasn’t cooked through and the octopus balls were not fresh and left a terrible after taste. The person I was dining with threw up a little while after leaving. I’m not sure if it new management or just an inexperienced chef but it was totally awful, will never go back.
Food was relatively decent but not a standout, however service was poor. Not only that, they also missed ordering our mains twice so we left under fed after not having our mains or bothering to try for desert. Kebab shop around the corner hit the mark though
Sadly this was my first and last time at spiced monkey, my friend and I came in for some lunch after travelling 2 hours and had heard nothing but good reviews.Unfortunately my friends drink was curdled and the dragon roll we had was VERY fishy we think the prawn must have been bad.The chicken teriyaki roll wasn’t much better it was dry and had no flavour.Disappointing…
Busy place and we had to book for the next evening for dinner.Pleasant and good food and service. When asked about our meals, we told them the ribs were really salty and it was taken off our bill. Pleasantly surprised.Thank you.
Amazing atmosphere, layout, furnishings and food. I was highly impressed on the kind staff served us last night on the 20th of May and the live musician that was playing, they made it a perfect night to remeber. I highly reccomend this to anyone curious or interested about dining at spice monkey and advise that you will not be dissapointed one little bit. if its your first time dining I reccomend the Teriyaki Chicken Roll aswell as both the Pork Belly Bao and the Karaage Chicken Bao. there are many more options if you are more into seafood so dont be shy to ask the staff there as they will be more than welcoming to give you their advice. Definitely will be visiting there again in the near future.
we ordered takeaway, it was a busy night so they advised us for a small order it would be a reasonable wait. we had sushi rolls and edamame. the edamame was crazy hot, i look hot but we had to wash the chilli off to eat it. I think as a takeaway option it’s quite expensive. The roll was nice and fresh but for $22 vs $5 at a normal sushi shop i couldn’t see a difference to justify the price.
Beer was very good, view and staff excellent, squid skewers were tough.
Had a late lunch yesterday, best Asian inspired food.freshest quality ingredients. Try this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.
The food here is INSANELY good. Always so amazing, great staff, really affordable and fantastic cocktails 🥰
Staff were so friendly and attentive and always checking on every table if they needed any help would highly recommend to anyone
Waitress didnt write down order, completely forgot the kids meals and then whenwe asked about where our food was after 40 mins waiting, it still took them another 25 mins to bring out the kids food and only one of our small dishes. All the other tables had gotten food even those whod come after us. Another friend has had the same problem. Just write orders down!
Great authentic sushi rolls!Fresh Sashimi value for money.Have to book earlier!
A big thumbs down to Spice Monkey. For years we have been loyal customers often making large bookings.... however no longer will this be the case. After notifying staff of an allergy issue and ordering food as usual, mid meal one of our group noticed that they had started to have an allergic reaction.Shortly after we needed to make a hasty exit home to spend the next 4 hours throwing up dealing with all sorts of issues for about 12 hours immediately after the meal which can only be attributed to a full contamination......I contacted Spice as soon as we got home to let them know that we had and issue. The following day I contacted them again to talk about what had happened. Not once did they enquire to the condition of the individual who ate the contaminated food..... and was then informed that the owner had instructed staff that he was not interested in offering a refund as he was not prepared to loose the cost of one table because of one contaminated meal...... an attitude like that I think is disgusting. As a local that has in the past made bookings of 40+ for banquets .... I have to ask... how on earth does a response like that even make sense......Shame on you Spice Monkey Forster .... until now we held you in very high regards.....We will be taking our bookings elsewhere from now on.Take note... it appears Spice Monkeys policy on allergies is that theyll try and be safe but if you get sick or die its just one of those things......
Great meal. The Bao Burger was the hero of the evening. I’d come back just for it. Gabby is one of those waiters capable of remembering ten different food and drink orders without writing anything down. Dinner and a show… what’s not to love?
Friendly service, good portion size. A nice and clean atmosphere. Staff are friendly and the most importantly the food is delicious. Highly recommended !! 🥙🍸
First time diners tonight and have raved the whole way home! The food was amazing and the dumplings were sensational, the best we have ever had. Even our fussy teenagers tried and loved everything we ordered. We were looked after by Serena who explained everything to us and helped with our selections, so a massive thank you to her, the service was great! We will definitely be back, great food, staff lovely, excellent service and spectacular view!
Didnt know what to expect but I was very pleasently surprised. Asian Fusion food that was as creative as it was delicious. The portion sizes were excellent. I recommend the share plates so you can have a little taste of everything. Great view.
Amazing spot! Lovely staff. And delicious food (prawn and coconut dumplings...mmmm yum). Recently did an overnighter in Forster on the way through with our puppy dog, looked for a spot for a beer and something to eat. No-one would have us, even the pub, due to our dog, but Spice Monkey did! No problem whatsoever! Had THE best spot under an umbrella on the deck, cold beers, great food and a crazy view of the sunset on the inlet. Even brought a water bowl for our puppy. Looking forward to stopping in another time. The best!
Its a perfect location if you can find a table facing the river. You may be lucky enough to see dolphins 🐬 swim by and if you are going in the evening you might be served a stunning sunset.Lets talk food - southern thai prawn dunplings are too good for a starter if you havent tried before, the korean bbq jackfruit bao was surprisingly yum and so was the Karaage chicken bao. We tried the drunken hokkien noodles - good quantity to share and yum with lots of green toppings. What to drink? - Splice monkey splice was quite good, didnt enjoy the Lychee fizz so much.Book ahead of time to avoid disappointment.Hope this helps :)
Came here for dinner around sunset. Great spot for watching sunset with a nice view. Friendly staff and fast service. Their pork belly bao was so so nothing special but cooked well. I really liked their lamb ribs. Sweet and well cooked.
Amazing restaurant with fantastic food and drinks. The new chef there is so passionate and so friendly! Hes worked in Sydney, London and France!! has done an unbelievable job, the new menus have been fantastic!!! Exactly what this town needs is food like this. Well done kitchen team and exec chef (Zac! )Brilliant Front of house staff (Gabi, Sarah always a pleasurewho are always lovely. Good atmosphere. Good to see a small business tick all the boxes. Will dine again and definitely recommend. Try the desserts too!! Love Spice Monkey
Is there a 6th star for this review? Wow…wow, wow! Started off with a Margarita and for an Asian inspired restaurant they make the BEST Mexican style Margarita I’ve ever had…and I’ve tried a few 😉. This Margarita kicks like a mule so rest assured, whilst $18 may sound like a lot for one drink, you really get bang for your buck! BUT WAIT…there’s more, for $36 you can order a 1litre jug of Margarita 😳. One was sufficient for me as I’m a lightweight with alcohol but excellent value if you had a couple of Margarita drinkers with you. My partner and I decided to just share a few small dishes, we got the Edamame beans in chilli and roasted peanuts, delicious…best I’ve had, followed by vegetable spring rolls, a huge serve of Ko Pham Bang…delicious and a mere $20 and honestly, I’m not joking…THE BEST dumplings ever. If there was such a thing for worlds best dumpling then I’m pretty sure this would win the prawn dumpling title. The Southern Thai Coconut Prawn Dumplings in coconut cream green nahm jim, roasted garlic oil, toasted coconut & coriander is out of this world. At first bite I was wide eyed proclaiming to have discovered the holy grail of prawn dumplings…then I found the coconut cream green nahm jim sauce…next level perfection, died and went to culinary heaven. Been dying to get here 🤪. The Margarita is still affecting me…wish I had the jug now I’m home! 5 stars and more; we will definitely be back. Oh and the staff were great. My only complaint is the chairs were uncomfortable and not befitting decor for such delicious food dining but after one of the kick A Margaritas, the chair soon becomes a distant memory 😉
Definitely one of the best Asian fusion restaurants Ive been to!
Food to die for! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The kingfish sashimi is incredible; on par with any top Japanese restaurant Ive been to in Sydney. The beef brisket rendang, one of the best curries Ive had. If you visit Forster, you must visit this restaurant!Follow-up: My dining experience with Spice Monkey on my second visit was just as divine. Fabulous service, scrumptious and flavoursome food with a picturesque view of the water. The pictures speak for themselves!
A must do restaurant if visiting Forster.Amazing flavours. Views of the water. Friendly service and Covid safe. We just enjoyed another amazing lunch with a cocktail. The passionfruit cocktail was perfect. We even ordered extra to hearing home for a lazy Sunday dinner.
After a nice walk on the beach I found this location online, was looking for a nice place to have some food and alcoholic beverages to finish up the night.Parking was very easy to find, when I arrived at the door I was greeted immediately by a waiter and he found us a seat by the booth. I scanned the QR code on the table and was navigated to the menu, a waitress came over and asked if we wanted to order a drinks and have more time to pick food, which we did. After ordering our drinks, it arrived a couple of minutes after which then we ordered our food. Our food came in waves, one after each other, no later than 5 minute gaps.Customer service was beyond my expectations, would give 10 stars if I could!Food was average, dessert was delicious.
Amazing!!!! Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location. Came in the afternoon for a sunset dinner overlooking the water. Everything was exceptional from food to service, we couldnt fault one part of our experience. The food itself was incredibly fresh, fast and great tasting. Excellent Asian fusion style food of a calibre I wasnt expecting to find in Forster, definitely rivals some great restaurants in Sydney and blows anything else weve tried in Forster out of the water. The duck wonton is one you dont want to miss!Drinks were all excellent too, great selection of various unique cocktails, wines, beers and Japanese sake. Definitely recommend the Yuzushu sake, worth trying out!!The location itself is absolutely gorgeous. We were fortunate enough to get a corner table with an amazing view of the water which was perfect to watch the sunset while we dined.Service was impeccable, shout out to Keegan for being an absolute gem to us all night ;honestly cant wait to return once im back in town!!
I really enjoyed this place. I booked ahead and once we arrived we were so happy. The place was very busy. Staff were nice and food delicious.
Great service, warm and professional staff, and great fresh, tasty Asian food 🙌🏻Very nicely presented as well.
Very chilled vibe. Amazing food. The wait staff were funny and relaxed. Honestly the best place to watch the sun go down with a bottle of wine that is also a reasonable price... Loved it.
Delicious fusion food, friendly service and great views too. Can’t go wrong with this place for any occasion or simply for a delicious meal.
High quality, great tasting food. The meat on the Braised Beef Rib simply pulls apart using chopsticks and the flavour of the Korean Fried Chicken Wings were spot on... Kudos must go to the Chef. The service staff are highly attentive and friendly. Highly worth the visit and price.
Even after we messed up our booking on one of the busiest nights in Foster the staff was very helpful in accommodating us. The food was delicious, well priced and something different!
Absolutely amazing experience! We felt extremely welcomed and spoilt by the staff :the meals were absolutely delicious!!! What a perfect outlook over paradise - what a TREAT! Thank you team Spice Monkey :)
We waited quite some time for food and weren’t that impressed with it. The cocktail tea pot was like drinking straight bubbly wine there was no real flavour coming from the other ingredients. The fish with the pork belly and cashews just didn’t work it was a strange dish for me both flavour wise and texture wise. The takoyaki flavours were really nice but the octopus in the middle was really over cooked it was very chewy. The sushi was okay but it fell apart really easily.I probably wouldnt come back here.
First visit this year but this has become my favourite place in Forster over last three annual visits. Todays lunch met the usual high standards. Food tastes fresh and full of flavour. Generous serves, fantastic service, excellent drinks menu, great view ......whats not to love? (The photo is Hokkaido scallops - highly recommended!)
