4342 Dale Rd, Modesto, CA 95356, United States, Modesto
A modern space with an ivy-covered patio & lively bar serving fine New American fare & small plates.
We had a party of 8 for a birthday celebration. Our waiter was kind enough to tell us they do not do birthday celebrations or anything to celebrate the birthday person/persons, so that is the reason behind the 4 stars including the parking, which was slim and hard to find as the parking lot is shared between two restaurants. The restaurant has no waiting area for guest, and the bar is small. We will be back as the food was very good, but definitely more of a date night place at max a double date.
Chris one of the bartenders was super friendly and his his drinks were great. Briefly app was so good and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Service was fantastic. I will go back for sure!
Worst place to come, I came last night and severs were so rude. There was event going on and so many drunk people were there it wa punjabi wedding, servers were not even considerate and we called the cops on them as they were rude and fighting but redwood cafe staff went judgemental and never looked at other part of th story.
The ambiance seemed nice until they seated us in a hallway by the kitchen. We seriously couldnt enjoy our food because there was so much traffic. They do have a lot of very friendly employees eager to help. Scallops were under cooked (which is understandable unless you pay $50 a plateDinner and drinks for 2 with appetizer and tip $160 otd... gotta say i left feeling a lil ripped off. And the parking is 10x a disaster.
Food and drinks are always great! Service is always excellent! The outside event section is beautiful!
The lamb lollipop, and garlic shrimp appetizers were phenomenal. Cooked perfectly and not too salty-- however still bursting with flavor. The braided short rib pizza was equally flavorful and the pickled red onions/garlic really balanced and made it so you couldnt get enough of the dish. The day boat scallops were similar with a lot of depth of flavor shining through into the risotto from the veggies and scallops. The beef pasta was absolute garbage, I couldve made something better at home with $15 and a non functional tongue. So flavorless and so oily.Overall though, with the slightly above average drinks and delicious scallops/pizza/appetizers, Id give this experience 4 stars. Ambience was great as well.
This establishment is absolutely amazing. To find such a gem located up north is truly pleasing. From dinner out with friends to an intimate date night you are in good hands. The food is made to perfection and the ambiance couldnt be better. If you have the chance to stop by you wont be disappointed. I intend to look into having an event here due to having such a great experience.
The waiter was so friendly & attentive. I was there for my birthday dinner & he treated me very special. Oh, and the halibut was excellent. Thank you all for making my day even more special!💯👍👏
Great atmosphere and service. Food was amazing including the dessert menu. I was in town for business and discovered the fine dining restaurant. Yes prices are mid range, but what a great property and location on the outside of town.
Went for the wifes birthday. Our server took our orders. It rubbed me wrong when she didnt write anything down. Sure enough my medium rare became a medium all done and the wifes was medium rare. We wouldve switched but I had a ribeye and she a filet. Yes she blamed the cooks. Never again!+
We came to the bar for some drinks and had some legit delicious eats! Chris and Jeremy are masters of their craft, drinks are hands down the best around. Come here for the food, the drinks, the company…you will not not be disappointed.
Food was great and the service was top notch. My only draw back for this place is that finding the entrance was not the fastest and inside its a bit tight spaced. The bar is fun and was lively. They have more than just the restaurant and had a big outside entertainment space and I could see it being great for a reception.
I love the atmosphere of this place. The food is amazing. Make sure you call ahead for reservations to get a table
Great food and amazing bartenders. I go every Tuesday when I am in modesto for work and it is the best.
Love this place. One of my most favorite places to eat and have a good time. The staff there makes you feel at home and never had a bad experience. The owner walks around and makes sure to stop at every table to make sure you are satisfied. 5 star service.
Restaurant is esthetically pleasing, food was ok. Your pretty much paying for venue. Definitely not my 1st choice when it comes to flavor but if Im feeling fancy this would be the spot.
The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. The food was really great. My main course lacked flavor- the spicy chicken pasta. Others got the pizza, scallops, and filet and all loved it. Very upscale menu and prices for Modesto. This is a nice restaurant but not too stuffy. Wish my meal tasted better but overall it was a good experience.
Food wine atmosphere outstandingIt is beautifulBusyThe lamb was superb
Beautiful space! Love the wood, stone, steel design - very artistic. Food was delicious. Great atmosphere, friendly helpful staff. Highly recommend an evening at Redwood Cafe.
I have had two events at this place and this is my place to go on the weekend with my friends. This past Friday I had the worst experience our waitress John, he’s an older guy, baldheaded… he treated us so bad I don’t think I will go back to this place. I know for sure he did not wanted to be working that day but he shouldn’t be treating people the way he did… really rude unprofessional waitress. He messed up in our order and he did not recognize it and then when we wanted to order more drinks he did not put the order in. I asked to speak to his manager and he said there’s no manager right now!!!! I was in disbelief the way John was treating us. I hope the owner reads the reviews so he knows what kind of employees he has. I feel bad for the owner because he’s a really nice guy and I have met him several of times but with the employees he has this place is going downhill. There are other restaurants in town where waitress or employees will not treat you so bad like in this place.
Love the outside patio!!!! Was invited here by friends and plan to take a few co-workers. Although I did not try any of the food everyone said it was delicious.
Let me start by saying that the food here is pricey, but excellent. The cocktails are amazing and the wine is up to par. That said, tonight was my 3rd time visiting this restaurant with my wife. The first time, in 2019, we called and made a reservation for my wifes birthday. When we showed up, they found no record of our reservation and after about 10 minutes of trying to figure it out, we walked out. The manager followed behind and caught up to us; and immediately accommodated us and got us a table on the back patio area. That was fine. The second time was during fathers day 2019 and the brunch was amazing. That second experience I felt they had redeemed themselves from the first. However, this brings us to tonight, having made a reservation for 7pm for my five year marriage anniversary. Below I will list the issues we experienced tonight:1 - We showed up at exactly 6:56pm and had to park along the canal; which was an absolute nightmare to pull out of when we left. However, upon checking in at the back entrance at 7pm, we were told our table was not yet ready and it would be five minutes. It was 15 minutes later we were actually seated.2 - We ordered our drinks and appetizer, which we received at 7:30pm. It was then we made our order for the dinner. We did not receive our dinner until 8:33pm. During that time, we watched two other tables that showed up after us receive and complete their meals.3 - The outdoor patio experience was absolute trash, and I dont use that type of description often. Firstly, the sun was coming down directly into our faces. Secondly, the lighting is so terrible back there that when it got darker, we couldnt see much of anything and several lights were flickering so bad we both got headaches (still have the headache while writing this).4 - The aforementioned may not have been so terrible, save the fact my father was watching our son at home and it was 1.5 hours after our reservation that we actually got our food. Because of everything, we both of us became irritated and spent about five minutes actually eating our food before we stewed enough to ask for food boxes to leave.Lastly I will say that Sienna (sp?), our waitress, was very very good and empathetic when I brought these issues up to her. It isnt her fault and she was very attentive to us. She consistently checked up on us, and in fact we were having a decent time there initially and hadnt thought about how long the food was taking until the sun went down and we developed irritating headaches because of the lighting. All that said, we both of us decided that our experiences tonight and in the past were not up to par with $200 dinners. We will not be visiting The Redwood Cafe any further, but do hope that others enjoy their experiences there. If you have not yet tried the Pork Schnitzel and / or the Smoked Manhattan, they are an absolute must.
Great dishes and atmosphere. Decent wine selection. The wines they do carry are always good and pair well. A number of custom cocktail selections, none of which Ive had. One of my favorite places to done in Modesto.
We have been dining here for special occasions for 20+ yrs. The meals have always been exceptional tasting never a disappointment, however no matter how great tasting the meal if the service is poor or your patronage is not valued it will ruin the dining experience.Such was our case.Quickly stated. At 5pm (Our reservation timewe went to the Dale Rd entrance and the door was locked. We waited till 5:10 when I called the Hostess and was told to enter on the Bangs Rd.side. When we walked up to the Bangs Rd. entrance door there was a sign on it that said “enter on the Dale Rd side”. Frustrated we entered in the door and found an employee inside the dining room where our table was suppose to be reserved, the employee told us we had to go back outside and go to the outside gate and check in with the hostess? What?I explained to them we’d both done enough walking due to our disabilities and we were leaving. How can you enjoy a meal after this.I contacted the Manager on the phone while we were in the parking lot and he could not explain why there was no signage on the Dale Rd main entrance and improper signage on the Bangs Rd entrance and made no mention of correcting that issue. Basically he could care less about what we experienced. But all ends well as we drove to Mike’s Grill-house and enjoyed an amazing Halibut dinner, fantastic clam chowder, but most of all the service we received was above and beyond even though Mike’s Grill-House was filled to capacity.
Typically love the service and food here, but the last time we went it was absolutely terrible. For one, the waitress and waiters need to be trained properly. I have absolutely no idea why our waitress never checked up on us and was absolutely rude to us when we did nothing to her. She only did the bare minimum, never asking if we needed refills or how the food was. In addition, one of the waiters told us they didn’t have time to take a photo of us?? You would think that at such an upscale restaurant that the staff would be open to taking a 5 second photo of us just because that is the standard that should go along with their food. Guess not. The food plates that came out also had splatter marks all over the side of the bowl, indicating that whoever was plating food didn’t take the time to even clean the edges of the plate. On top of everything, we still tipped our waitress a hefty amount.
The food and service were wonderful. But we were looking for an intimate place and the crowd seated next to us were very loud. If youre looking for a quiet intimate place probably best to look elsewhere. But again the food was excellent.
My girlfriend LOVES their gin baths, so we go there for that enjoyment; however, the last two times we’ve been there have not been great. They charge fine dining prices, but have failed to deliver on the fine dining experience. The previous time we went there I ordered a ribeye. The cut of meat was terrible, whoever is doing their quality control on cuts slipped. The ribeye was also over cooked, I ordered it medium-rare, the 1/4” thick piece of meat I got was cooked medium-well. The last experience we had left me wondering why we are paying fine dining prices for a mediocre experience. The meatball and polenta appetizer came out with dribbles of sauce on the edges, the plate should have been detailed after plating. The expo runner was carrying the plates by hand, causing the contents to shift and the plates looked sloppy. The placement of plates was abrupt and not done with the care required for a fine dining experience. I’ll think twice about doing date night here again.
As always, the ambience is perfect, the staff is friendly, and the food causes me to be thankful for my tastebuds .
The Grounds are beautiful and it is a nice venue for a variety of events Birthdays small weddings , The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because it is definitely very pricey. Dinner for 2 without drinks was right at 200 dollars we did have a appetizer and desert .The Food was Great but not excellent we had the filet Mignon . The service was 5 star the staff where very attentive and plentiful the waiter was Great with his service and suggestions again I just didnt feel that the food merited the prices. That being said we will dine there again perhaps that chef was a bit off on our Visit . Enjoy
service was awesome, great atmosphere, and drink selection. The main course was scallops, and unfortunately, they were incredibly under seasoned. they get so many things right and then shoot themselves in the foot. amazing ingredients. season your food chefs. taste it often!
Great food as always and love the staff! It never disappoints!A few photos below
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited. I havent been in a while but when I last ate there; I had this beautiful peach wrapped in prosciutto, which was then fried and I believe decoratively placed on a plate with some delicious sauce lightly drizzled about it.. Lovely. It was absolutely unforgettable and perfect. I also recall having a blueberry, lemon drink that had vodka in it and it greatly resembled a Moyjito, it was super refreshing and delicious as well.
Amazing service, clean and inviting decor and ambiance which was nice for my dinner date with the hubby. We both enjoyed our dishes (steak and shrimp). The drinks were delicious. Bathroom was odd to locate. We had a hard time finding the entrance upon arrival, coming from the second parking lot. Over all great experience.
Arrived around 6pm on a Friday night and as we expected no tables available. Rather than wait 90+ minutes we grabbed a couple seats at the bar. We ordered cocktails and appetizers to share. Good was good, drinks were better. No true complaints about anything, but as always the price for the value was lacking a bit. For well over $100 I just expect more. Food is good, but not great for the price. Will we be back? Yes, but probably not right away.
We made reservations in advance and its a good thing we did because it was very busy. Parking can be a problem so get there earlier. Ive tried different dishes and everything has tasted great so far. The spicy chicken pasta, filet mignon, salmon, halibut and coconut shrimp were all good.
I have not visit this place in about 3 years. Let me tell you if you have not visit, you are missing a good opportunity to have a great experience, I would not say it is cheat, but great experience overall. The place looks great and very accommodating. The food was great. But one thing that I felt was amazing was the service. It was on point. I can not say that I need it something and I could not find someone there to help me. If you guys at the redwood read this, you should be proud to have such an amazing team. As for everyone else, give yourself a treat and visit this place, you won’t regret it. Thank you like always this is just my experience overall of my resent visit to the restaurant. Hope this helps and I will see you around.
It is amazing as always the best in modesto hands down!! My husband n I come here every time we have a date night night it amazing
JB was our server. He was wonderful! Made the whole evening/meal an even better experience. Thank you🤩
Wonderful atmosphere amazing food great staff. If you are looking for a fancy date night dinner spot or a classy business lunch this is the place
Great service, relaxed environment, delicious food. Plan to come back and enjoy the courtyard bar! Fabulous!
Great date night place, expensive but very a nice place! The cocktails are so fancy and polished. The atmosphere is wonderful when you dine inside. I’d recommend stopping here just for a cocktail and grabbing dinner somewhere else. Dinner prices are insane for what you get, but giving them a 5 anyways.
Best place ever....Food is delish....People are Awesome...and the view is amazing!!❤️
Great Modesto gem.Servers are second to none and the food is amazing. Its $$$ but great for a special occasion or just drinks and appetizers if youre on a budget.
Pork Shinizel was out of sight with a mushroom bacon sauce. The menu looked creative and the pizzas looked awesome. It is a bit pricey but really cool looking spot and I would say worth it. The wine list was also great, had house Cab and was quite a surprise.
Well we had an interesting experience. Lots of mixup with orders and bill but at least everything was fixed with a positive attitude. Food was quite tasty.
Visiting from LA and was brought to the Redwood Cafe to celebrate an engagement. This place is amazing! Our server was very attentive and helpful. And the food... Also amazing. Presentation was 5 star and the food was cooked to perfection. When we go back to the Central Valley we definitely will make it a point to schedule this place into our itinerary.
Perfect place to come here with friends! Plenty of room and a great assortment of food. We had bottomless mimosas and food which was about $40 altogether for each person. They leave the champagne bottle and the carafe of juice at the table and replenish the champagne when it runs dry. I tried the ceviche, chicken and waffles, smoked salmon (so good). Would come back here for the very clean and beautiful environment. The only downside was the weird parking lot but not a deal breaker
Beautiful restaurant and amazing atmosphere. The place was packed but it felt like it was just us. Everyones meals were fabulous.
Absolutely wonderful! They have an excellent lunch menu with soups, salads, pizzas, sandwiches, and more. The Margherita Pizza is perfect, not too much sauce and plenty of cheese and basil. There’s an excellent drink menu with wines, mixed drinks, Italian sodas, and fruit teas.Everyone here was wonderful. Every member of the staff we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and so kind. Service was prompt and the quality was top notch. We ate indoors, which has a quiet, calm atmosphere and plenty of space. There are also several private outdoor seating areas as well as a dedicated bar area.We are definitely keeping Redwood Café in mind for any future events as well because the dedicated area in the back for weddings and events is absolutely stunning.I definitely recommend visiting here if you’re ever in the area.
Redwood Cafe is a great fine dining restaurant. The athmosphere is so romantic and relax. Full of blue cool lights. There is outdoor sitting, indoor and bar. The foos is delicious. I order a half chicken with mashed motatoes and sauteed spinach. My boyfriend order a salmon and substitute brousel sprouts with mashed potatoes. My peach iced tea is so refreshing. And of course dessert chocolate brownie with vanilla bean ice cream 😋😍
