Red-Sea in Lausanne

This was a great introduction to Eritrean food! The food was, on the whole, delicious. We particularly enjoyed the potato dish, but it the spinach dish, and the beef dish that came with the 2 person dinner order. Eating with our hands was also quite easy with the crepes and definitely added to the experience! The atmosphere of the restaurant didnt live up to the food, sadly. The wait for food was quite long with no explanation or warning. The restaurant itself could also have been a bit better decorated.

déçu, jai fait pas mal de restaurant Ethiopien donc je me permet de faire une remarque, mais le service par rapport au menu "La suggestion du chef" (soit le" menu découverte" comme on peut voir dans dautre restaurantmanquait de saveurs, les galettes aussi, elles navaient pas ce petit goût citroné, semblaient industriel ou alors elles étaient de la veille (?)la distribution des galettes est assez radine, je veux bien être contre le gaspillage de nourriture, mais à 3 personnes, distribuer 1 à 2 galettes max, cétait assez pénible de vous en redemander à chaque fois

It was an excellent place to eat, with excellent food. The portions were large. Prices were affordable. During lunchtime, the place was packed, but food was delivered quickly.

Simple but very tasty place

Lovely friendly staff, but tough to get spicy alas, and overall not as good as Addis in Lugano

La nourriture est très savoureuse et lattention est très bonne. Nous avons commandé le menu spécial pour goûter un peu de tout et nous navons pas été déçus. Jai déjà goûté les baklava dans dautres endroits et jai particulièrement aimé ceux-ci. 100% recommandé 😊.

Service au top ! Serveurs polis et efficaces. Ambiance pas trop bruyante, adaptée pour avoir une discussion. Super bon, pas gras et quantité parfaite. Je recommande 😊

Personnel sympathique et souriant. Il n’est pas courant de manger avec les doigts en Europe, l’expérience fut intéressante. La nourriture était bonne mais ça manquait de saveurs plus surprenantes.

L’assiette à partager était très bonne, et l’équipe du restaurant est très sympa! Le new red seanous a fait voyager

Delicious food, above-average price, friendly service on a busy sunny day. If you were to order the platter, be sure to state the portion size (2,3 or 4 personsclearly. It was only at the end that we found out that they gave us 3-portion size when we ordered for 2, to share amongst the three of us.3-portion platter with plate diameter of about 50cm, with various meats and some vegetables, with additional 3 pieces of pancakes (not shownfor 80-90chf

Good food good faire price

We had the degustation plate with many vegetarian dishes, lovely shiro sauce and the sourdough bread that is part of the experience. The food was excellent, the host both very generous and cordial. And they also have great beer to match the food’s spicy flavours.

Absolutely amazing dinner. We ate the mixed platter for 3 people. The food is exquisite and the service is excellent. We even chatted a little, and the world really is a small place!It’s a gem, highly recommended. Spicy and authentic

Excelent meal! We had meat and vegetarian together. Very good value for price and the owner very friendly.

I totally recommend this place. The owner Fidel and his staff are really welcoming and the food is great and tasty. You can always ask for more spices if you like your dish a little more hot. Even if one plate would already fill you well you can always ask for a little extra. This is simply to avoid wasting food. If you never had the chance to taste this kind of food and you like to discover new horizons dont hesitate to take the leap!!

Connaissant bien la cuisine érythréenne, je ne peut que vous conseiller d’aller au red Sea !Accueil simple et efficace, plats savoureux, très généreux dans les portions.C’était vraiment très bon et en plus ils ont du vin éthiopien qui allait parfaitement avec notre repas.Malgré le fait que c’était copieux nous avons tout finis 😜 j’y retournerai pour goûter d’autres plats à la carte.Prix plus que correctes.

As a solo traveler came to this restaurant alone, just right in front of me had table for 5 & 3, the waiter gave out all meun to them but no menu for me, I had to wait them finished order. I asked recommendation for vegetarian among 4 choices, and the waiter recommended the more expensive one. I finished order, I was soooo hungry but I waited 35 MINUTES for food!!!!! And in front of me just very little vegetables... In the middle of the meal, waiter came to me asked "is it ok?" I said the portion of the vegetables too little. He said "Actually you can order mixed vegetarian for 1 people, you may try next time. My first thought: Why you didnt tell me when I was going to order? I asked for your recommendation! And I reply, I wont come again.

A delight and pleasure to dine in very authentic delicious and exceptional eterian food. Friendly staff who were pleased to see that I ate with my hand the correct way. Also served extras as complimentary and the African beer tastes good also. Definitely would recommend and will visit again soon. Perfect all round. Price per person excluding drinks is 25CHF which is very reasonable.

Excellent Eritrean restaurant, it was the first time for us to have Eritrean food, we had the Red Sea special and it was very good, the portions were generous too but the owner offered to top up for free. Very friendly owner, I would definitely come back here again whenever Im in town. Very recommended.

The local Eritrean and Ethiopian community seem to love this authentic East African restaurant. Customers are expected to eat with their hands, in traditional style (but forks are available for those who prefer not to). The staff in this cosy and casual restaurant were welcoming and extremely helpful. We chose the Chefs Special tasting platter (a selection of tasty dishes served on a large savoury crepe/flatbread), a bottle of South African Pinotage, and finished off with spiced tea. Everything was delicious. Relative to typical Lausanne food prices, the final bill was very reasonable.

A real nice surprise, a 25 francs meal in Lausanne that is tasty, well done and interesting. If you dont mind eating with your fingers, go for it!
