Red Meze in Johnson City

Excellent food but a little pricey for what you get.

If you like to try new and interesting things you have to give this place a try. This Turkish sit down is the kinda splash of culture I love to see in JC.I’ve been here 3 times and I’ve yet to be disappointed by anything. The food is always so flavorful and colorful, plated perfectly. I definitely recommend the Iskender Kebab or Chicken Adana Kebab, both are fantastic.The atmosphere here is great too with tidbits of Turkish culture all over the place and both the waiters and owners are super nice.PS: They do serve both domestic, local, and Turkish beers here too…….Just incase you needed a drink

This clown has negative reviews erased so dont believe what you read. I gave him two stars because the setting is fantastic, comfortable benches, very attractive decor, casual cool and pleasant. However, the Greek salad and red pepper hummus I ordered was a joke. My Greek salad was a huge heaping pile of iceberg lettuce, approximately 6 or 7 black olives, a few tiny pieces of tomato and maybe a quarter cup of red onion slices. The dressing was clearly Italian dressing straight out of some bottle.My hummus was so watered down it had almost no flavor. If youre looking for a nice comfortable environment this is a great place, but if you want authentic Greek food go elsewhere.

Holy cow. Incredible food, the BEST baclava in TN, and the owner is hilarious and lovely. EAT HERE.

Amazing! Such kind service and my husband loved his gyro. We got the jalapeno hummus with warm pitas - just spicy enough and delicious. Im a vegetarian and got the sweet potato falafel burger - enormous. It comes with regular hummus as the sauce and next time Ill ask for the jalapeno hummus instead. We were up for the day from Asheville, well definitely be back.

Amazing is not enough to describe the restaurant because its beyond that. Not only is the food fantastic, but the service is second to none. Super nice and attentive service makes this place a perfect meal. Delicious!

Had dinner with a friend and as usual it was delicious. I had the chicken pita meal with French fries. Chicken was tender with great flavor & the pita bread was warm & fluffy. French fries were crispy & hot. Great staff, warm inviting atmosphere. Always a good experience.

What a wonderful dinner and experience. Our waitress was top notch, no wait, right to drinks and appetizer. The red pepper hummus and pita was on the money!!! If I had to make a complaint I would comment on the size of the plates. Not the dish but the actual plate. It was difficult not crumming on the table, but because the food was so wonderful, I couldnt care less. Im telling you right now, this is what you want to eat today. I will without a doubt be back again. My wife agrees so if that doesnt say something then you arent listening.

Ok. If you are reading this, then come to this restaurant. Red Meze absolutely crushes their food. Get the hummus, get the falafel and chicken gyros. It may not look like much on the outside, but this place is my FAVORITE local food option. Live your best life, eat Red Meze.

I truly cant understand how this place has 4.8 Stars. I just ate here. My red pepper hummus was nearly flavorless. The Greek salad I ordered was piled high with plain iceberg lettuce, maybe five olives, a few tiny pieces of tomato a dusting of feta cheese crumbs, some red onions and a dressing with zero flavor. If you want some genuine Greek food, this is not the place.I really enjoyed the setting, and the bench seats were very comfortable, and its in a cool location, but the foodLeft a lot to be desired.

I had the pleasure of dining at Red Meze this past Sunday (August 14). The decor is pleasant and middle-eastern themed. Cushioned benches with pillows and art and knick knacks that reflect the culture. The staff was pleasant and appropriately attentive. I chose the Meze Platter, from the appetizer menu - I couldnt make up my mind and this offered a variety. It was wonderful. The hummus was as good as I had when I went to Israel. The pita bread was the best I have ever had. I even liked the dolma, there were two and I told my friend, who hasnt met a dolma she didnt like, that I would eat one and, if I didnt like it, she could have the other . . . I ate both. The rest of the items were new to me and I ate every bite. I finished my meal with baklava and Turkish coffee. I look forward to another visit to Johnson City so I may return to Red Meze and try more of their wonderful cuisine.

Exceptional food and service! The owner is amazing and has the best personality. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. We ordered several dishes and each one was delicious. I can’t say enough about what an amazing experience my friends and I had at Red Meze. It’s a must visit when in Johnson City.

Used to be a great restaurant. Have no idea, what happened- new chief or new ownership, but food is not good anymore. I ordered my favorite dishes babaganoush and eggplant wrap, both werent good. There was not babaganoush at all, just something, that looks like hummus, without any taste of eggplant. Eggplant in pita had unpleasant bitter taste. Ever Turkish coffee wasnt strong. Sorry, wont come again.

Just had the weirdest dining experience here. I do not recommend dining in at this establishment as the customer service is awful (not the waitresses fault, but the owners). Ordered a chicken gyro and the chicken was inedible, tasted like rubber. Politely asked for the waiter to just take the plate back and that’s it, but they offered to get me a new dish. The way the waitress explained it was that she could not take the dish off of the bill, but she would replace my food with a new dish. She made it seem like she was not going to charge.I get the bill after I finish my meal and I am charged for both plates, even though the waiter offered to get a new dish and I clearly returned the previous dish in full as it was inedible. Only one singular bite was taken out of it and that too was spit out and put back in the plate. The waiter said she saw that I didn’t eat the food but she still has to charge because she doesn’t have the authority to fix the issue. She even admit that she should have further explained that I would have to pay for both dishes.Why should a customer pay for the restaurant’s error?On top of this, I was overcharged for another dish. I ordered a falafel gyro and was charged for a falafel gyro plus 1 side which is $3 extra. And even more weird that if a wrong dish is rung up by the staff then you still have to pay for that error as well because they don’t have permission to fix that either.Disappointing! The rest of my food was mildly decent but still lacking in flavor, but this issue really wrecked the experience.

As a non-meat eater, it is sometimes hard to find a restaurant that offers a good choice that isnt salad. Red Meze has a varied menu for both those that eat meat and those that dont. Usually service is spot on, but this visit provided us with a rather unpleasant waitress. She acted like we were a nuisance. However, as always, the food was delicious and their ezme with warm pita is one of my all-time favorite dishes.

This is my first Mediterranean restaurant Ive ever eaten at and I have to say it is amazing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You help me understand the menu and what was on the food. You also were able to customize my meal and take off things I did not like or want. The food was incredible. I cannot say anything bad about this place. It is definitely a must stop if youre visiting Johnson City or even if youre a local.

Nice, small restaurant with great service and good Greek food - and the prices are reasonable! I suggest you come visit this one!

This exceeded expectations in every way. My tummy is so happy! The food was incredible and the service was excellent. New favorite place!

Most of the food here is good. Service ia fast and friendly. The only downside are the prices and small portions. $8.25 for about a 1/2 cup of hummus and one pita is kinda crazy. The falafels arent as flavorful as the Lebanese ones Ive had and came without any lemon tahini sauce. The tzatziki was watery and bland. The gyro was also quite small compared to where I come from.

We ate at Red Maze for the 1st time yesterday and it was delicious. The food & service was amazing. My fourteen year old daughter loves it as well. We will definitely come back.

The reviews for this restaurant on Google are most definitely correct. I had the Chicken Gyro, which was balanced perfectly by the different ingredients added to the dish.

Atmosphere and food was amazing. Loved the fact that the owner came by and talked to us for a bit. Will definitely visit again!

We moved to this tiny little town in the mountains (north of Johnson Cityfrom Houston last year, and, while we absolutely love it up here, we do miss the variety of foods in Houston. Red Meze did a phenomenal job of satisfying our craving, while adding the friendliness we find inherent in this area. Wonderful food, great service.

I love this place!!! Their hummus is so fresh, their pita is like eating a cloud, and their gyros are perfection. Highly recommend!

I tried one of the kebab entrees with the gyro meat and it was fantastic! Great service and the food came out in a timely manner. I’m going to visit again to try more of their dishes!

Great Mediterranean food in downtown. Was looking for a lighter option in downtown Johnson City and Red Meze hit the spot. Tasty hummus and friendly service. Just what we needed after a long day of driving.

The food was very good, I had the spicy chicken kebab. The only nit-pick that I have is that they used a bread that was closer to naan than pita. Both are good and go well with the food, but I was expecting pita.

It was the best Turkish restaurant we have ever experienced in Tennessee. Thank you for the great hospitality and delicious food 🧡

What a amazing gem in the middle of downtown Johnson city. I personally had never been but my mom, dad and sister were fans. I am now obsessed. Our server was top notch. He had me laughing and enjoying my whole time there even when I was ignorant and couldn’t pronounce the food hehe. And let’s not forget how obsessed I am with their food now. My family raised us on a lot of food like this and it exceeded expectations. 10/10 would recommend.

Good food. Very friendly staff. They would not serve me alcohol on the night before I turned 21, even though I was less than 4 hours away. This is good. Their Turkish coffee is delicious. Fun layout and artwork. I recommend to anyone visiting town.

Fantastic food. Loved the Dolmas, and the baklava was the best Ive had.

Nothing better than a great meal at Red Meze! The food is fresh, flavorful and fast. Every time we visit I am amazed at the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere provided by the owner and staff. The prices are fair so you always feel like a winner in the exchange. 5 stars all the way!

Wonderful place for some Mediterranean and Turkish fare. Love the decor and hang out type of vibe. Food is amazing! Had the chicken kebabs as shown in photo and the falafel ad an appetizer.

Stopped in because I was craving some Mediterranean and ordered the dolma and gyro. The server guy was super nice and didnt want for anything. And food was delicious!

Very tasty. Love the gyros and the tabbouleh salad. You must get Turkish coffee also.

GREAT SERVICE. The service here is consistently fantastic. This is a Johnson City gem, no doubt. In any other city, they’d likely have some market pressure to step up to the plate, but for the Tri Cities, it’s great. What makes this place so special is what they’re able to do with their ingredients. They buy the cheapest ingredients they can get their hands on. The veggies in particular. The hummus is the same hummus sold in tubs at Sam’s Club, same for the pita. HOWEVER, they make up for it by having great service with the food coming out fast. The İskender kebap was truly a great dish considering they buy the cheapest döner US Foods offers. This place is like a good Mediterranean food truck with a storefront. The gyro is good enough, and the prices are very low. The result is a good enough Greek joint with great prices, food you can rely on, and consistency throughout.

Our dinner here was everything dining out should be—wonderful food, excellent service and nice atmosphere. There were 5 adults in our party. We all ordered different entrees and all were delicious. I will pass on Turkish coffee next time 😂 but the baklava was excellent. I cannot commend our server enough. She was so polite and engaging and attentive. The owner stopped by our table as well and made us feel so welcome. So glad to have found this gem of a restaurant and hope to return soon.

Very nicely designed restaurant with friendly staff. The appetizers were good. We had the garlic hummus with pita bread.I was slightly disappointed in the selection and quality of food. I was expecting authentic Mediterranean food. The gyro meat looked and tasted like prepackaged meat strips. I could be mistaken but they looked a little too perfectly sized and lacked flavor. The pita bread was very dense and taste like something you would buy at a store.The food wasnt bad it just wasnt worth going out to eat it.

The food was good, but they really need to put more meat on their gyro. I dont care about a large portion size, but they should be embarrassed about the amount of meat used. There were no sides served with the sandwich either. Ill take my money somewhere else next time.

Update: Came again while they were in a lunch rush. Ordered the same thing and it was much better.Decent food. Tried the lunch combo chicken gyro. Chicken was a bit thin and dry. Fries were overcooked. Tzatziki sauce was pretty good. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. Location is correct. On Buffalo St. right next to Tipton St. parking lot.

Excellent, authentic Turkish food and very friendly and hospitable owners. Best Eskander kabob I’ve had outside of Turkey. Several options on the menu and everything our table ordered was delicious. Great dolma appetizer also!

This place is absolutely amazing! Whether youre wanting to go in and enjoy a meal with family and/or friends, or just grab a quick bite or takeout, you cannot go wrong with Red Meze. Not only is the food incredible, but the servers/staff have always been incredibly helpful, professional, and super friendly. The prices are super affordable, especially for the portion sizes that you receive and the food is absolutely fantastic! I eat here at least 3 days a week and I have never had any problems, issues and/or complaints. Its definetly a favorite of mine. The Gyro, their homemade tzatziki sauce and baklava are beyond fantastic!! Its definitely worth your time and money to try it out. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

The building itself is beautiful. The burger has some great sauce on it. I loved the Gyros and also learned that I love a few other things, just cant remember the name of them
