Red's True Barbecue in Liverpool

Drinks were lovely, but thats about as far as it goes. I came mostly to try to crackling and they had none. In fact, we went through about 5 items and got told they had none. We finally found a food they had we would eat, and it wasnt at all great. Im not picky, I ate mine, but my partner had about two mouthfuls and couldnt eat anymore. Staff were kind enough and halved our bill, so I cannot say a word against them. Sad to say it ruined my birthday meal, and I must note I had booked a table at 5pm, and yet the only finally opened at about 5:15pm.

Went because it looked really good. Got seated in close proximity to everyone else where everyone can hear everyone else’s conversation. Got served wrong drinks to begin with then had to wait another 10 minutes for the right drink to come. When food arrived chips were overly fried and just tasted like crispy oil. It all just tasted like burntness. We were sitting next to a American couple and overheard them saying it was nothing like real American barbecue and they didn’t finish there meals either. Plus the hard wood seats gave me a bad back. Such a shame after we got our hopes up for this place.

In summary...no is the key word you will hear here. They run out of most things on their menu quite early. As an American most of the options are not quite right, Mac’n cheese was the wrong pasta with melted white cheese and wings are distinctly not XXL. Drink service is slow due to the bar being on the 3rd floor and drink runners not knowing table numbers. Saw food sitting under hot lamps for extended periods, no dedicated food runners. Overall disappointing experience, don’t recommend.

RUBBISHFirst things first, I am a HUGE Reds fan. From when they first opened in Leeds I have also eaten in their Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham and Shoreditch branches over the years and I dont need much of an excuse to visit. I really love what they do.So its a bank holiday Friday and my family and I are staying over in Liverpool and see on Reds FaceBook site that they are doing a bank holiday Beef Long Rib Feast for One. "A bin lid filled with Beef Long rib, a XXXL Buffalo wing, 1/2 rack of Baby Back ribs, tangy slaw, charred Broccoli Carolina, Corn Chimmi and fries".The photo looked amazing and as I dont need much of an excuse to visit, I had a table booked for 3 faster than you can say "pulled pork"We arrived at 8:30pm and even though the place wasnt busy, it was probably best we had booked.So we ordered our food and waited a lot longer than normal for it to arrive but our server (Demiwas on the ball keeping the drinks flowing.When my "Feast for one" arrived I was amazed.The XXXL Buffalo wing which was shown to cover the entire width of the bin lid on the FaceBook images was tiny and deep fried to within an inch of its life. A couple of bites and it was gone.The charred Broccoli Carolina was a limp soggy mess in a tin cup.The Corn Chimmi was missing entirely so I have no idea what that was likeAnd the amazing beef long rib? MEH! Rather fatty and lacking in flavour. The baby back ribs were OK thoughBut then to add to the disappointment, my wife had ordered the sausage and brisket. Now the Smoked Cheese & Jalapeño Sausage was good but the brisket (which cost £5.50consisted of a single small slice of pretty dry meat! We did question this and a second very dry slice soon joined it but even so, value for money this wasntMy wife also ordered the Dusted Fired-Up Fries (for £3and got a small tin cup half full of plain fries. I have no idea what the whole Dusted Fried Up thing was all about. This was just a cup of plain fries.So at the end of the meal I raised my concern to our waitress. We watched as she approached who I think was the manager and appeared to get dismissed very quickly! She returned and just applied a substantial discount to the bill. It was as if the manager had simply said "just get rid of them"!!!So what gives?As I have said, I have eaten at Reds for years. I am a true fan and would eat much more if there was one local to where I live. I love their foodBut it is clear to see why the Liverpool branch is half empty on a Bank Holiday Friday night.THIS WAS RUBBISH!I know the owners in Leeds have a passion for BBQ and have built a successful business out of that passion. This branch is an embarrassment to that brand. If those owners in Leeds read this, please fire your Liverpool management team. They dont care about your values or your customers and are damaging your brand by serving up rubbish food. I could get better BBQ in my local HarvesterOf course if this is a reflection of Reds as a chain in 2019, please tell me where to return my loyalty card to? Im not going to be needing it any more

A little too smokey for me, nice food, good service with friendly staff!

Visited Red’s on Saturday night with a stag party after only calling 2 days before to book for a part of 14. The guy I spoke with was very helpful and went out of his way to move things to accommodate us. The food was amazing and the service was excellent!

We went to Reds tonight after visiting the Cavern Club. It wasnt hard to find and the staff were friendly. We ordered a raspberry cider, an ice tea and "the feast" for two.The food itself was fairly nice and there was a lot, as can be seen in the photos Im attaching. I dare say there was too much but we tried our best. It was good as we could try all of their meats.The downsides were that certain things run out, meaning you need to be prepared to change your order. The wings were out so we were comped the burnt ends. You can see on the board inside the door what is out of stock.Another downside was the service, which was friendly but slow. On this point, the raspberry cider was initially brought as a normal cider (by mistake), and the plates we were brought to divide our food up were dirty and greasy. Easily fixed though.The toilets are right at the top of the building, so be prepared to walk up two more floors to find them, or get in a lift situated at the back if youre not physically able to walk.Not a bad place to eat but I would probably pick somewhere different next time we are in town.

Food here is amazing, real BBQ style meats! The brisket was really tender and juicy, and the sticky chicken was so tasty too! Staff were really friendly and welcoming plus the service was pretty quick! Will definetly be going back soon

Very disappointed with the food here, decided to try Reds after hearing nothing but good words about it but I honestly dont understand what the hype is. I ordered the Baby Backs & Buffalo Wings - the ribs were dry, chewy and tasted like burnt plastic. The flavour of the sauce on the Buffalo wings didnt go well with the chicken at all and they also tasted plastic-y and artificial. Its a real shame the food was terrible as the service was good and the staff were really nice and helpful!

Its been along time since Ive tasted a burger that tasted a real 100% burger. The pit bull burger I had this evening was instantly full of flavour and an instant, this was the right choice. The rest of my friends in from work were all very impressed and satisfied with there meals too. The shared feast on a real bin lid was awesome, it was crazy good and amazing if you enjoy a challenge. Additional BBQ sources are on the table if you want to give any of your food a twist, with say BBQ mustard etc. If you like meat then give this place a go you cant be disappointed.

Went for meal with friends. Six of us bought food. Five had burgers, and one had salad. ALL of the burgers were tiny, and definitely did not live up to the £10.95-£14.95 price tag by any stretch of the imagination on either quality of quantity. They were no bigger than McDonalds saver menu cheeseburger in terms of width, and they were no thicker than a 1/4 you might buy from Tesco for £2 for a pack of two. Though I must note that the salad my friend got looked amazing, was huge, and had three different types of meat.Mine was the Juicy Lucifer burger, which sounded beautiful from the description, yet tasted just like any other beef burger - really nothing exceptional at all, in fact Ive made better at home from shop-bought.I really do NOT recommend this place if you want a decent burger!The service was decent and its got a nice decor and atmosphere, but everything beside is very VERY ordinary, and VERY VERY high prices. Ridiculous.The chips werent even anything special. Better than oven chips, but still far worse than mere McDonalds fries once again. Barely even salted, and no salt on our table..Though the meal did arrive with a nice warm, lemon-scented damp hand rag.In terms of value for money, avoid the burgers at all costs. Wish Id tried one of the BBQ options which I glanced enviously as I left, still hungry.

Pretty good food, especially the swine fries! The ribs were lacking in meat and overly chewy for my taste. The "giant" buffalo wings not actually giant, but overall it was satisfying for an American abroad that loves BBQ. Even the colesla was good, which I normally dont even eat 😊

Food can be good, but they were quite unfriendly. I was there on my own, asking for a place for 1, and they did not want to find a seat for me even if there were free tables (said to be too large for 1 person). I can understand that but they did not even try to offer me a smaller table, i would have to wait more than half an hour, they said. And the same time they were sitting a couple. I felt like they were giving me an excuse to send me away. Table for 1 in a restaurant cannot be the most efficient for them, but I am a customer as well. They can’t have the right to treat people with this attitude. I’ll never be back.

Went for a staff Christmas meal with work. Even though we where a large group, the staff were so polite and attentive. The customer service really was top notch and made the night so much more enjoyable. Good food, we ordered the Christmas sharing plate. separate plate for the coeliac, separate plates for the veggies.100% will visit again, and highly recommend to anyone else

Excellent service, phenomenal food, they take good care of you. Good vibe and a fun atmosphere before any sort of night out. Start at Red’s. You won’t be disappointed.

We visited here today 11.11.2018 for the first time and i have to say we wasnt disappointed we had a lovely welcome from a gent and had lovely table service from a bubbly & polite girl ( sorry i didnt get their names or Id mention themthe food was 10/10 my partner had the steak and even thou he had his well done it still melted in the mouth , and the donut burger was better than any burger I have ever tasted both meals were cooked and presented perfectly so compliments to the chefs for that . We will definetly be back , thank you for the great service..

Great menu and good variety of drinks that compliment the food. The BBQ sauces are to die for. I thought there was only 1 but was taken on a geographical tour of the US in flavours. Very attentive service. Id be back again soon but I live 300 miles away.

If I could give any more stars I would, good music, amazing food, the staff were so friendly and helpful (I was on a work trip away and on my own totally new to town, although they didn’t know that). I even had a wander upstairs and saw the bar area, the staff member was nice enough to give me a little history and let me look around even though they weren’t open up there yet.I love this place! The atmosphere is cool and the decor has a fantastic vintage vibe. I would visit here again for sure!This is my new happy place and the South Carolina Sauce is the nuts!I didn’t take any pictures of my food sorry I was too busy devouring it!

My reason for my review is on the day we went to the restaurant at roughly 8pm on the 4th October there was prompt service taking our orders. We waited 15minutes to be told that there was no brisket. We were offered ribs as a replacement and had to reorder . We also ordered some drinks and there was a considerable delay in receiving them. At the end of the meal we then ordered a second bottle of wine and another drink. After approximately 15 to 20 minutes our drinks still hadnt arrived and we had to remind the staff that we were still waiting.RegardsPhilip Hall

5 stars BBQ food, just loved the place and fast services

Freezing cold! That was the food and the restaurant. Some of our party got the set platter, over priced for what it was cold. Onion rings look so impressive, try to eat them and it was like eating raw onion. Another on of the party ordered a bean burger, no taste what so ever and cold.When the bill arrived a service charge had been applied, this was not advised when we booked. When questioned about this we were told it was optional and if paid it would go to the company! We asked for this to be removed and it was. Two members of our party were ill after the visit. We wont be going back again.

We went for dinner here and had excellent waiter service with a bar on our floor.The menu is broad (centered around smoked/BBQ meat).The food was brought out very quickly and was of good quality.Nice place and we would go back given the chance.

Absolutely amazing burger and steak had here. The service was really good too only let down was the drinks or else it would have been a 5. Drinks were slow to come then when arrived were wrong and really pricey for what we got

The ice tea was amazing - best Ive tasted. Had the donut burger, concept great but unfortunately the burger wasnt made with the best meat and was gribbly, chips didnt taste of much other than fried. Staff nice and kind. Would go back for the tea and maybe try something different.

Good food, nice atmosphere and lovely staff. If you are a meat eater this place is perfect for you. We made online reservation and when we arrived table was waiting for us. Service was super fast and everything was served in less than 15 minutes.

First time we have been here Saturday. Just walked in and seated quickly. Food was great, loads on plate too so we was stuffed. Nice atmosphere too.Its an American theme so if your into that sort of thing you will like it here, so its burgers, ribs, pulled pork, stuff grilled basically.Drinks are nice too, like beers, cocktails, milkshakes.Highly recommended.Only slight issue was the actual wait for someone so we could order the food, but it was a saturday and it was busy

Very Nice place and good staff. Food has good quality and is a good option if you fancy a burguer with good quality and different than what you are used too. Very fresh food.

Great restaurant! Looks great from the outside so much we got off from our Uber mid drive.Great stake, we ate each a 200g Angus and its was heavenly, all of the sides are great too, amazing service and good music.

Its not often I give a restaurant 5* but on this occasion Reds definitely deserve that. It was a great experience before I had even got there. The Assistant Manager was very accommodating for myself and the group - she booked the table well in advance and was in continuous e-mail contact up to the day we arrived. We had never been to Liverpool and Charlene helped out with places to stay and go, she didnt have to do this so shows the calibre of staff Reds employ. On the night of the meal the service was exceptional and food tasted awesome. I would highly recommend going to Reds if you are in Liverpool as the staff really do go above normal service and food is great.

A fantastic place to get a good a diner! The BBQ trays are amazing and the meat is spot on! Also the place itself with the great music and good service are perfect. The chocolate brownie is a delicious dessert!

Decided to pay a visit spontaneously as I was craving ribs. I was not let down.The long rib I had was juicy and full of flavour, as was the chicken. The onion rings were also massive so no real complaints there!Would definitely visit again as I came in the door on an empty stomach and left with a full one!

Seriously good meat! The double Pit burger is a good test for any man’s appetite particularly when paired with fries covered in blue cheese and brisket chunks! It was so good we came back the following night. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed my meal there with my partner. She had the Pulled Pork and I the Burnt Ends.All very tasty in a relaxed atmosphere, made it a great night.We had booked a table as had seen it gets busy. The reservation was on the system and our table was waiting.Very good value as with the trays you can pick 2 sides or 1 larger. Great range of drinks as well, bears, wine, cocktails, virgin cocktails, soft drinks and even root bear!Fantastic range of deserts too.We did not leave hungry.

American bbq themed restaurant with freshly smoked And BBQ meats daily. Serves unique food not typical of other restaurants. Been here loads of times since discovering it a couple of years ago. Staff are laid-back and friendly and always try to cater to your needs. Food portions are a bit large for me but I dont mind not finishing it all because the quality is incredible! Only had a poor meal here once and when the manager approached our table to check everything was okay she was VERY apologetic and fixed my issue right away. Excellent atmosphere for a chilled meal with friends or a partner. Offers a loyalty card scheme with loads of special offers sent to you by email and also the odd free beer or snack, or build up enough points to get money off your meal. Service is really fast too (never waited more than 15 minutes for my main after ordering). Some of the food is a bit "out there" so I recommend looking at the menu online before you go to find something youll like, and once you do you can book a table right on the website!

The décor is great, the staff were nice and friendly, helpful. I had the famous donut burger. Im giving it three stars because I wasnt a big fan of it. Donuts didnt taste of much, and beef seemed a little overdone, it was a bit gristley too. Bit pricey. Would have preferred a five guys or McDonalds tbh. I would still recommend a visit, but I wouldnt go again. Im not a massive fan of barbecue style meat.

NOT IMPRESSED WITH FOOD OR SERVICE!I ordered sticky chicken which it was not. It was greasy and slimy, I was told it was cooked and that was how it was meant to be?? Well I had an upset stomach for 2 days afterwards.We were given items we hadnt ordered and we were charged for items that were meant to be included in the price.WILL NOT GO AGAIN AND I DONT RECOMMEND!Well the milkshake was nice, but at £5 it had to be.

Really enjoyed our food here. Myself , wife and our 4 month old baby called in on a soggy Liverpool weekday. Our waitress was really friendly and showed us how to order from the menu, she helped us with our pram. Only thing we would of liked is more room at the table as its a rather small space and my wife was breastfeeding so was not the easiest place to feed. Would go back

I had the pitmaster tray which is 19.95.. The portion size was pretty poor to be honest, Im not a big guy but I didnt feel full after this. For 20 Id expect much more! The food was very good quality, the service began good but then got slower and slower...the dessert was terribly (the ice cream donut).A loyalty card and discount card was dropped on a table and I left them there as I wont be returning.

I love this place. The food is so good and the deals always get me in the door. New lunch menu is great and Im sure once I get through all the new things on there the new monthly special will be out.They put together an even recently for me and with help from the Project manager (Matand the kitchen (Paul, Michael, Arran and anyone else who helpedit was a amazing night. The head bar guy put some unbelievable cocktails together as well.Overall its a great place to eat.

Went here with my family as a treat and so glad we did the food was some of the best Ive had the chicken was very nice and the staff were very helpful and nothing was to much of a halssle when changing orders as children changing minds half way through the order. Great place highly recommend it.

The food was amazing. I had the donut burger which was divine. The booze milkshake was gorgeous. The service was fab and she evwn gave us a discount for no reason. Cant believe i have never been before but i will definitely be going again.

I was happy with the standard of food and the value for money. The food being served on a sheet of paper on a cold metal tray I wasnt to thrilled about. By the end of the meal the paper had dissolved into the food and I was picking it out my teeth. Friendly staff and a cool interior, would go again.

Hmmm... portions were massive (which is good!and the food tasted pretty good but the overall price was way too high. I didnt feel like I was getting value for money compared to all the excellent independent burger places weve got around town.On top of which they serve your food on metal trays with greaseproof(ishpaper on them just to look a bit different. Sure, it looks different, but the trays are cold metal - not warmed - so the food is going cold within minutes. By the time youre finished its barely lukewarm. What happened to, you know... a plate? ;-)

Went in celebration of my other halfs birthday. The true test of service is how they deal with problems and when we had one they did brilliantly with profuse apologies! Food was fantastic, very flavoursome and quickly served (try the half rack baby back ribs). The iced tea is gorgeous and full of flavour as is the peanut butter cheesecake. Cant wait to find an excuse to go again!
