Ray Rays Hog Pit Franklinton - Barbecue restaurant in Columbus, United States
Used to be great food, now the quality has been really going downhill and the staff are slower than ever. Meat has next to no moisture. Ive asked for no dry rub and they still put it on the last couple of times Ive gone. On top of that, theyve raised their prices. Not worth it.
The pulled pork was awesome. Baked beans were as well - smokey and unlike anything Ive tried. Fry sauce was yummy. Coleslaw a bit bland. Will definitely go back.
So good every time. Their jerk chicken is so flavorful and delicious. They never miss.
My wife and I had Ray Rays for the first time tonight. Let me tell you their ribs rock… As in hard as a rock!! If it’s tender melt in your mouth bbq you’re looking for because it’s 90% fat, get the brisket. Then chuck it, go to McD’s and grab a McRib.
My family are big foodies and we love to go to places we’ve never tried before. My family who used to live in Columbus took us here and we loved the food the outdoor patio courtyard vibes. The bbq was smoked and tasty especially their pulled pork. The pork was very tender and their waffle fries were lightly seasoned with a robust taste. I enjoyed my meal and I will definitely say if you want some tasty bbq and cocktails next to ray rays don’t hesitate to stop by and try their food. This spot will be my go to when I come back to Columbus to visit.
Some of the best food Ive ever eaten. Every. Single. Time.
Used to be one of my favorites but has gone downhill the last couple years. Every time Ive gone lately you are served half warm sides like Mac & Cheese and Baked Beans. The fries they serve are always half warm as well or you can tell they were reheated in the oil or fried in old oil that needs changed. Also the brisket just isnt as good as it used to be. On top of them not having Burnt Ends half the time on Thursdays (not sold out, just not serving today even though they are advertising that locations have them all day).I try to be forgiving, but this has been my experience the last 3 or 4 times I have given them another shot.
We were traveling in that part of the country and looked yo up on triple D, so we stopped in and I had the brisket sandwich and after I was done wanted 16 more, it was that Good and would recommend to anyone even vegans that they should try the brisket, life-changing experience. I absolutely love your food.Thank you for such a wonderful day.
Worst bbq I ever had..I got the jerk chicken for 11 dollars and got 1 piece of chicken... Literally 1 piece of undercooked chicken..I got a pound of baby back ribs and they gave me 2 ribs for 18 dollars that were tough as rubber .Had to throw everything away..Not only that but had to spend 10 extra dollars for nasty sides.. Collard greens smelt and tasted like fish..Waste of money
Ribs weren’t smoked properly. Literally had to cut the meat off the bone it was so tough. The slaw had zero liquids it was all cabbage. Disappointed to say the least.. cost $26.
Was literally "sweat" like a pig. I wanted to try the best thing that Columbus has to offer and Ray Ray delivered. Big combo with juicy bbq ribs, amazing jerk chickens, flavorful hot links, tender and juicy brisket, everthing was perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection.
Yum is all I can say!!! It is always fun going to this Franklinton spot. Simple dining on picnic tables outdoors with scrumptious ribs, greens, cole slaw and many other dishes. People who come here are very friendly and it is the perfect place to bring your dog dining with you!
The overall food experience was below average. We waited in line for approx 40 mins. All the food was close to room temperature, including the drinks from the fridge. We got the baby back ribs and biscuit. The ribs had good flavor but were pretty dry. The brisket was decently tender, but again was around room temperature. The fries were hot and very good. They were sold out of coleslaw, so I got mac and cheese instead and the flavor was great, but again it was cold. All the BBQ sauces were excellent. To recap, waiting in line that long for dry and cold BBQ was very disappointing. Will not be back.
Had to get the meat sweats dish, and omg it’s delicious!!
This place is off the chain!! Nice bar and great food. Go for the meat sweats!!
This place has great food! The jerked chicken, collard greens, and Mac n cheese were phenomenal. There was a very friendly atmosphere here, definitely plan on eating here again.
I went to this truck today at 11.30am the customer service was an horrible experience the bbq had no flavor I doubt it was smoked over night I ordered the lamb special and was given brisket I brought the brisket back to the truck and the Mexican manager got mad at me for correcting him on the mistake he made giving me brisket instead of what I ordered the lamb special if the people of columbus want great food go to vantes kitchen or hot chicken takeover this is definitely not 4.6 stars thats a lie false advertising
They have good sauce but the food isnt good. The tips were tough and these are not hot links.
The ribs were fantastic!! The guys cooking and serving were so kind and curteous!!
Worst ribs I have ever had, they sell them by the pound and for what was equal to a slab and some fries it was 41.00 we ordered them in some back street alley and then went into a bar to eat. Thanks Guy Fieri from triple D for the bad advice to go there. Ray Ray is no no.
Brisket sandwich was great had perfect texture not overly smoky and dryrub on top you didnt even need sauce and also the waffle fries were amazing Ill keep going back
Always delicious. The brisket is phenomenal. Staff is very friendly and always open to give recommendations. Get the waffle fries!
I just recently got the bbq jerk chicken sandwich and ribs with baked beans and Mac and cheese. The jerk chicken was not hitting for me seems like the chicken wasn’t cooked all the way, the baked beans were basic so was the Mac and cheese. The ribs were the only thing that was good! My first time trying them and probably the last!
I ordered the meat sweats and yes it was very good but They hardly put any pulled pork about four bites and Only Three pieces of brisket was very disappointed on the quantity
Pulled pork very delicious. Collard greens good but not great, but done right and would recommend. Carolina pork sandwich was mostly fat, and was ok. Maybe just got an ok one.Went back again and tried both the baby back and spare ribs. Both were overcooked and dry. Outer surface cooked hard in some spots. I did like their homemade sauces which saved the tough to eat ribs. The slaw was very good.
Huge line at Land Grant, and the bbq itself was just ok. The sausage was to die for! I’ll wait in line again for more of that sausage! And heck, I’ll give the bbq another chance too.
Got the baby back ribs. It was okay... kinda tasted like what you’d get at like chili’s or Applebee’s. Very fatty.
Line moved fast, service was quick and helpful. Most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious. Wish I had ordered more than a half slab. Definitely will be back!
Delicious BBQ. I had the BBQ lamb sandwich and burnt cauliflower pieces. Both were very tasty.
Great A+ bbq, their meats are always fresh and cooked just right. You wont be disappointed.
Ray Ray’s is hands-down the best barbecue in Columbus. The rack of ribs were tender and falling off the bone delicious, no sauce needed the dry rub seasoning was out of this world. #MeatSweatin The links are incredible, just the right amount of spice with a touch of heat. The Brisket is phenomenal, trust me. The chicken is outstanding, moist and full of flavor. The pulled pork was exceptional as well, Smothered it in the sweet barbecue sauce and was in heaven. If you love barbecue and haven’t been here... just go now, you will thank me later.
We have eaten pulled pork and barbecue in numerous states( Memphis, TN, NC,WY, KS). This is the best. A good truck parked in the lot of a local brewery. Im spoiled for any other barbecue. Great fries 🍟 also.
Thursday night (January 28, 2021in Franklinton visiting an old friend at Land Grant Brewery (awesome). We decided to get some food from what I thought was an amazing establishment called Ray Ray’s BBQ. The food might have been OK, but the service was horrible. Rude young man told me to put my mask on when I was outside more than 10+ feet away from him. I asked why and he said “I was about to get all up in his space and needed to put it on”. I was not approaching him. There was no threat. I just walked out of Land Grant and took my mask off because I was outside. What makes it ok to verbally treat someone badly because they may get to close to you? Why are we treating each other this way?
I spent years living in Texas so I’m particular about my BBQ. The sandwich buns were great and actually held up. The brisket was a bit dry for my taste but pulled pork was delicious. The fries were also probably best I’ve had in Columbus (unexpected surpriseand the Mac and cheese was yummy.
Loved it. Pulled pork sandwich was good, but the ribs are where its at. Get them with the dry rub or bbq sauce. You cant go wrong. Ill go back to try the jerk chicken
Ray Rays is a Columbus staple. Everything on the menu is perfection. It feels like a lot of restaurants have slipped in quality during covid, but Ray Rays has gotten better. Considering everything on the menu is spectacular, try the "Meat Sweats" to get a good sampling of all the offerings.
I love the burnt ends. I usually get the sandwich and waffle fries. I got the pound of burnt ends this time around and I was not disappointed
I love this place, the ribs are amazing, I ate BBQ for 3 days because of here. Very quick service always friendly.
First off let me say fully cooked and beautiful not dry I got one smoked wing with the dry rub and jalapeno sauce it was awesome is actually fried and smoked then I got a quarter pound of the wagyu beef brisket and a quarter pound of the regular beef brisket both was lovely completing worth the money didnt have to spend an arm and a leg which the parking could have been better
Fantastic BBQ, smoker right there at the truck. Right in the land grant parking lot. Super friendly staff, large portions, amazing flavor. Ribs were cooked perfectly
We have visited Ray Rays Franklinton several times with multiple orders. Every single time the staff is very professional, friendly and accommodating. This is the best BBQ place in town and we will continue to support this company through these uncertain and trying times. We have been very impressed with the team work of Aaron, Lucas, Dustin and Austin. These are a great group of guys proving AMAZING food with great customer service! People ask me whats good on the menu, and I tell them everything. We went again today and Gaby was there helping out the normal crew. As always the food was amazing again and we are never disappointed. 21 orders and they are like a well oiled machine. The Jerk Chicken is my favorite item on the menu!
Best ribs and Brisket Ive ever had.Had the spicey dry rub and got a side of sweet BBQ sauce. Waffle fries were great as well.
This place has awesome bbq with a big selection and good prices. They’re located next to a couple of great bars, too, so you can grab a drink with your meal. I recommend getting the ribs with some of the spicy fun dip. I’ll definitely be back when it’s warmer!
Ray Ray’s has a great selection of smoked BBQ! Baby back’s are my personal favorite. visit the Clintonville location if possible because it seems to always be more fresh.
Great service, food, and atmosphere every time. The employees are sure to make you smile sometimes as well. Try their jalapeno bbq!
Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and waffle fries. Both were excellent. You can grab a Land Grant beer or 6 pack right next door.
My wife and I are fairly new to the Columbus area and decided to drive around and find a place to eat. Drove by Ray Rays and it looked like a good place to try out. Excellent food! Got a brisket sandwich meal and some waffle fries. Told the guy at the window that it was our first time eating there and he was very friendly. He offered us a sample of the brisket. We were sold! Would like to go back and try some of their other foods.
Barbecue worth stopping for. We got off the highway for a bit while on an I-70 Roadtrip. Best decision we could have made. Ended up stopping in again on the way back. Best baby backs I have ever had! (The proximity to beer is pretty awesome too!)
I’ve been here twice on difference days and the brisket is always too dry and overcooked. As a native Texan, I appreciate that Columbus has a bbq place, but this place left me missing home. I hope they can reformulate and get it right.
Overall Im please to have Ray Rays in the neighborhood. It makes sense to have it placed at Land Grant. The truck and grill was clean and welcoming. The staff was very direct, not as welcoming. They were out of pulled pork and the guy taking the orders wasnt the most pleasant communicating the circumstances. I ended up getting a brisket sandwich with the Carolina sauce. It was good but the brisket was a bit dry and parts were crunchy. Although I ordered a small waffle fry, I was reprimanded, advising me the waffle fries only come in one size, but they were good. Ill definitely have it again but on the side of convenience only.
