Gascoyne House, Upper Borough Walls, Bath BA1 1RN, Bath
Brasserie/bistro with dark wooden floors and soft lighting, serving modern takes on French classics.
Great spot to dip in for a lovely glass of wine and a cheese board - definitely recommend
The best food Ive had in years.Especially the fish!
Superb lunch complete with cocktails and birthday cake for my 80th Birthday! Many thanks to all at Raphael.
Edit: My original review is below in quotations. We ate the bread and chilli cheese butter, the olives, the veal, the cod, the fillet of beef, the white chocolate cheesecake and drank wine with everything.I recommend Raphaels for the bread, butter and waiting staff alone. All three are incredible.Obviously the superb wine is another massive bonus."I do not know why this is not the highest rated restaurant in Bath. Im writing this review in the middle of eating the starters because they are THAT DELICIOUS.If youre visiting Bath and want to treat yourself but are unsure where to go, dont bother with anywhere else. This is the only restaurant worth visiting if you want to experience a moment of contentment."
Delightful. Squeezed us in and supported with attentive service. Nice wine list to complement. Tip though, do book .
Absolutely incredible! The food was so nice and the staff were brilliantI had the cod main and it was so good I could have got a 2ndGood job Rapael
Just fabulous! We went here for my birthday dinner. The food was wonderful, the service was attentive without being intrusive. I highly recommend Raphael!
I’ve been to this restaurant three times now. The service is incredible. The wine is amazing and the food is ridiculous. You know you need to pay attention when the bread and butter is one of the best courses! It’s astonishing it isn’t the best rated restaurant in the city.
Having read some of the reviews on line I was a little concerned.... but those concerns were soon gone.We had an amazing meal for two, the chilli cheese butter and bread bites and the cod goujons were extremely good.We felt no pressure from the staff, but they were attentive.Wine list was extensive but something gor everyone. The mains we had were sirloin steaks with a pepper sauce... all well prepped and tasted amazing.Thank you to all the staff at Raphael.
Fantastic food, gorgeous wines, superb service. Wont be my last visit!!!
Fantastic meal, really clever modern menu, extensive choice of wines, staff were friendly and very attentive. Excellent place to celebrate my birthday meal.
Wow!Hands down the best food we had in Bath. I can’t recommend enough, cute atmosphere, mind blowing food and nice, attentive staff. You’re wasting a visit to bath if you don’t eat here
Great place, second time Ive been here. Beautiful food, great service. Will definitely go back when I visit Bath again.
Amazing food, amazing wine, fabulous service and even loved the 80s/90s music! Will definitely recommend and return!!
The service was pretty good. But the steak I ordered was cooked well done to medium when I wanted medium rare. Other than that the food was really good.
One of the best meals iv had in a long time. Chef is very talented. All staff great. Everything from start to finish was brilliant. Highly reccomend
Excellent restaurant!!! The food was delicious and well presented as well as arriving quickly. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable about wines with the food as well as being lovely company. Would thoroughly recommend 👌
Love this cosy little place with amazing food! Came back a second night because the food is just sooo good. Highly recommend it! Also, lots of love to the chef ❤️❤️❤️
Arrived on-spec without a reservation and a table was found.Service was excellent. The menu on offer was not extensive, but what was on offer provided a nice range of seafood and meat dishes.Portion sizes were not hearty, but more than adequate.Food was cooked superbly and the taste was exquisite. Definitely a case of quality over quantity. An extensive choice of wines, to suit wallets of all sizes.Nice surroundings. Highly recommended.
Absolutely delicious Sunday dinner with excellent service. Would not hesitate to go there again!
Excellent service, friendly without being in your face, food excellent and really good gluten free choices for all courses.
Nice meal. Risotto was very good, but we probably wouldn’t return. Tables too close together. Can’t have a private conversation. Online, food sounded better than it was.
Had a late lunch on Sunday 14.30 and would recommend this to everyone drooling for some traditional British dishes with good quality and taste. The restaurant was spacious and looked rustic but had cozy ambiance with yellow lighting, natural lights through the windows, and slow music. There were families and couples from various age range, so I could say that this restaurant were nice. We ordered the fish of the day (lemon butter sauceand the Sunday Roast (32 day old sirloin steakfor the main meals. They had impressive selection of wine and cocktail; we chose Mare Libation for the fish and Aperol Spritz for the Sunday Roast... and they were went well with our equally amazing dishes. Our waiter was fantastic, he was very passionate and amicable. Unfortunately we didnt ask his name but he was French.
Very good food and the service was excellent. Great atmosphere
Wow - what a great menu with unusual but tasty food combinations. Good service and wine menu too. Lovely food and environment - will return next time we visit Bath.
Absolutely wonderful restaurant. Had Graduation lunch here yesterday with my family including a baby. Staff, atmosphere and food all fantastic. Highly recommend it. We all hope to be back. Thank you very much.
Excellent Italian restaurant. Knowledgeable staff when it comes to wine. Food was so nice and presentation was brilliant. Highly recommend a visit.
The lamb shank was quite good, tender and flavorful. The risotto also tasted delicious, creamy and rich. The sticky toffee pudding is also recommended, not too sweet and yummy. The service was also nice here. Recommended the restaurant.
Absolutely amazing food and even better service. I went there for my birthday and received an amazing complimentary dessert and beer. I go all over the country creating promotional content of particular places, and this place I would definitely recommend.
Had the fish of the day and the hanger steak and both were amazingly delicious with the wine we got. If you’re in town visiting, highly recommend!!
Visited Bath for a few days at the end of March as we were looking for a good restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary, somewhere a bit special. Raphael Restaurant certainly met all of our expectations, a lovely welcome, beautiful food and attentive but not intrusive service. Thank you to all the staff who made our evening so good. We wish you were closer to us in Suffolk so we could visit you more regularly.
What an incredible find!!! We absolutely loved our visit to Raphael’s and have had the best time from the moment we walked in. We were quickly seen to and seated at a lovely table at the back of the restaurant. The food was superb, great menu choices! A large choice of wines and cocktails available. Service was second to none! Would highly recommend!!!
One of the best Sunday roasts youll have, super recommend this place. We had the beef and the pork and they were both great, service and was and attentive, dessert was also really good and a nice ending to a great lunch. They got a very wide selection of wines also worth mentioning.
Could be great, Concept greatAmbiance fantastic, BUT:Delivery not so great, nibbles first course nice, but then things went downhill, with that thickness; of steak you needed more heat(based on how I ordered itUltimately, you need to learn how to describe the food on the menu(based on my partners choice which was sent back DONT get me wrong you got so many things right but when you mess up the main course its only downhill, especially when you dont manage feedback it very well...I guess thats a training issue...
This is an amazing restaurant. The food is superb. The quality, look & taste of the dishes were brilliant. The duck was cooked to perfection. The wine selection is vast & good value. The staff were friendly & attentive. I only wished my stay in Bath was longer so I could work my way through rest of menu. Not going would be a missed opportunity.
Do not hesitate in booking a table and having a meal here... choose any dish and you will not be disappointed. The service is impeccable, sincere and attentive. I actually feel bad for not giving more than the 10% tip on the bill.Ambience is cosy and intimate, with really nice warm lighting and well positioned tables.
The food was amazing and the service superb. If you are looking for a fine dining in Bath, Raphael is definitely the place. The herbed butter was insanely good and the bread came fresh out of the oven. The classic steak and truffle risotto were very tasty too.
Utterly amazing food. The venison was possibly the best meat I have eaten. Also fab choice of wines
We had a fantastic meal here for my husbands birthday. Attentive, unobtrusive service and excellent food. The venison in particular was delicious. Thoroughly recommend Raphael!
Great food staff was very nice - get the truffle risotto was amazing can’t wait for an at home attempt. My sister had a small hair in her drink but honestly the food was worth it.
Excellent restaurant, the food was terrific and the staff were attentive and sincere. We would highly recommend!
First class food, service and atmosphere. Lovely night out. Great selection of wines as well!
Absolutely loved our experience here. Such delicious food. When were in Bath, well definetly book here again. And try their great looking wines
Delicious food, beautifully plated. Service was welcoming and efficient but unrushed. Interesting flavour combinations - perhaps a little bold and contrasting for some tastes but personally I enjoyed the experimentation and thought it all worked together well. More of a fine dining experience than you might expect from the location and even the menu perhaps. Would go again for sure!Update: I did go a second time and just as good on the second visit!
Stunning Sunday Roast! Its been a long time since ive enjoyed so much a roast dinner. The meat was cooked to perfection and all the flavors put together were super tasty. The staff was super helpful and gave us really attentive service. My friend and I had and amazing time. Highly recommended!!
Nice, but seriously over-priced brasserie. This is a very nice brasserie serving good French classics. The atmosphere is good and the staff are expert and friendly. It would be four starts BUT its priced as though its haute cuisine, which it definitely isnt. The presentation isnt great and food is 30% more than it it ought to be, so three. If Côte comes to town, this place will be (Frenchtoast!
Turned up on a Tuesday night without a booking and was quickly found a table for two.The staff were polite and friendly but not that quick at sorting out our drinks. We shared the Camembert for starters (it’s only small so can do one). It was nice but nothing special (president brand). However when we went on to mains we were thoroughly impressed. The guinea fowl and rabbit were both excellent and could easily have been consumed twice!I had the lime and passion fruit panna cotta dessert and my wife the ice cream. The panna cotta was good but I’m comparing to one I had in Bologna which was exceptional and this didn’t match that but none I’ve ever had has done!If you’re in Bath and fancy a good meal for a special occasion then I’d recommend this place without hesitation.
Great atmosphere with friendly and attentive waiting staff. Perhaps slightly short staffed as service was a little slow, however. Starter of pea soup with bacon fried croutons was delicious. Sirloin steak was over cooked for a rare and veg and chips side was a little mediocre for £25. Good but room for improvement.
An informal French Restaurant – more like a Brasserie in the centre of Bath. Good Food and attentive service. Food was a touch too salty for my liking. It was too dark to see how the food was presented but the pictures taken are better than what I could see. (The wonders of present day technology).
Fantastic service, delicious food and really good value. Really recommend anyone who comes to bath has food here. Everyone on my table said the food was ridiculously good.
