Home to about 50 arctic species including polar bears, plus a domestic animal park in summer.
This is an amazing place if you like serene surroundings with animals around. As an Indian it was a visual treat to see animals which we dont see in India. The place is extremely well maintained. One advice, dont go through any tour operator. Just take a bus and come over by yourself. You will save a bomb
Was an OK place to visit .Nothing special. Only saw a polar bear few other animals lots of birds. Would not pay to go again
It was nice as a walk in the woods, but very disappointing if you come to see the animals. It seems like most of them are on an annual vacation or something. There were a few owls and deers on duty, together with a few more animals such as boars and ravens, but most habitats seemed empty. The habitats themselves appear as designed very thoughtfuly for their habitants.
Over all a great zoo, the animals seem to have at least some space to move around, also locals told me they take injured animals in that would not survive in the wild, they have mostly local animals so they are probably in the right climate, i am not sure if that is true for the polar bears though, in the end my heart was getting a bit heavy especially seeing the birds locked up in cages unable to fly higher than a few meters, of course I am not a wildlife expert, there is a decent path to walk around the zoo on which you will not miss any enclosures
It is a good place to visit if you love arctic animals. There could be some more activities for kids in summer time.
I had a very good experience with this zoo, I saw all the animals they have and the staff was very friendly. I did the whole tour 4 times, because sometimes the animals are hidden. Take your time, observe and take your binoculars with you.But I think they can do more for the animals, I felt the cages are very small, even the birds cant fly high and the cage of the polar bear and the brown bear is super depressing.
A super fantastic place to visit with kids. Great trail through the forest to watch the animals in their natural habitat.
Fantastic zoo, i really would recommend a visit there, even worth a few hours trio id you are not close by
Everything clean and tidy. Unfortunately it was too hot during our visit, the animals have withdrawn. Facility but very good. Very good atmosphere all around. Lots of options for eating and drinking coffee. Very good parking spaces and the adjoining campsite with a free sauna and a nice childrens playground are recommended.
Lovely place with lots of space for the animals, an excellent climbing and play area and a lovely restaurant with locally made gluten-free pizza!
Its an old place, not modernised and a lot of animals are not well displayed. We missed e g the big attraction the Ice bear.Kids were disappointed. Many empty cages. The buffé was partly cold and not so interesting. The kitchen personel was helpful and friendly.
A natural sanctuary for the Arctic animals. During the winter, the animals move to hibernation, so you see few of them. It is recommended for summers. You can witness the polar bears here and many other arctic animals.
Went during Christmas time. Money waste. Artic Animals didn’t come out. Only saw few birds in cage. Highly disappointed 😔
Well worth a visit, animals seem more natural considering they are in enclosures, some may be disappointed that the animals are not forced on display but personally it felt more like you are seeing them in the wild, we went in the snow, but clear blue sky, absolutely stunning location although in places a little slippy, as of most of the country in snow!
Nice winter zoo, with arctic animals, that one cannot see in other places. Unfortunately we could not see any of the bears, but overall impressive birds and other animals.
Great place.Lots of animals with great diversity. We were lucky to see the polar bear ... that was magical. The brown bear did not appear though. If you visit during winter, you can expect to see fewer animals ... A number of them were hiding due to the cold.Getting there - there is a bus from Rovaniemi, but if visiting on a Sunday, do recheck the timetable as bus timings were different. Getting a taxi from the park was a hustle.
Very good for its location plenty to see good walk round not a lot inside open in march , not a lot of staff well worth a visit
I think half of all the animals are invisible. The scenery looks better than the empty cages. Also the iconic polar bear was not visible. The zoo is actually small.
Really nice zoo with an open trail.Beware that during winter Brown Bear and some other animals will be hibernating or kept away.
Amazing experience walking along snowy paths between snow laden trees to see native animals of Finland. Well presented zoo with lots of space for animals. Sadly a few not on display due to cold season. An enjoyable day.
Good chance to see Polar Bear especially when you are tourist who visited Lapland during Christmas week.
No Lights in Winter, bring your torch. Great time watching the Arctic animals, though many of them were missing due to hibernation or extremely cold temperatures. Recommended for summers
This zoo was bigger than I thought. A lot of the animals were not visible when I was there but there was still plenty to see. The buffet was delicious! During the winter this park is not accessible for wheelchairs so keep that in mind.
Visited in March and many animals were sleeping/hiding (but thats how animals work).Still was able to see birds, bears, wolves etc. Buy tickets online to save few euros.
An awesome zoo/nature reserve with animals you dont find in many other places like polar bears, brown bears, beavers, wolfs and many more.Enclosures are alot bigger than normal zoos.Have free sledges too pull little ones along on.A nice buffet style buffet with a good selection of food for adults and children.
Had a wonderful time at the best organized zoo sofar in Finland. Weather was fabulous, had my fist encounter with polar bear. Recommended!!! Couple of owls and eagles too. Should visit sometime. Most amazing prices 👌👌 very low for Finland.
One of the best zoos. The zoo has Arctic animals which are set in their natural habitats. People are led through the zoo along a wooden boardwalk which is almost like a nature trail. The only animals I feel sorry for are the polar bears.
The animals have great living conditions and seems like enough space to be. We didnt see the polar bear, because he was sleeping in his cave when we came. I liked in Ranua in particular all the educative information about the Lappish nature and rock formation, it helped us understand tunturis a lot better when we went up north.
Ranua Wild Park is a zoo for Arctic animals. Most of the animals cages are outside and full of snow, which is what the Arctic animals are used for.You can easily spand 2 hours there, including watching the feeding of the bears and few more animals.
Wonderful place and with many snow forest animals to see, the polar bears where a spectacular and intriguing sight! Has some shops and a restaurant so if you’re really cold you can always go back and get some warmth back :)
Great Zoo to visit and discover only local and native wildlife. Some of the animals are being nursed back to good health such as the owls, others are simply amazing such as the polar bears, wolverine and wolves! Best of all is the ice bar 1/2 way through the zoo offering cold and hot drinks in the middle of the winter. Staff incredibly knowledgeable and courteous.
The zoo is pretty in Winter blanketed in snow, but you don’t have to go to a zoo to see snow.Unfortunately, a lot of animals were hibernating or hiding because of the cold. The day we were there in late December was -28 degees. So I don’t blame them!! It’s was bitterly cold.I don’t know if the animals know people have paid to see them and so expect the animals to come and jump around in front of them??Took about 2 hours to walk around, but there were alot of empty cages.I was disappointed, but having not ever been to a zoo in that cold temperature You wouldn’t know.Along the walk there were 2 places where you could buy a hot chocolate and sit by an open fire.I would not have gone if I’d realised and I think children would get bored and be even more disappointed. There’s nothing else for kids to do.Maybe in summer.I don’t recommend.
Much bigger than we thought at first. It took us around two hours to walk around. Some lovely animals that you wouldnt normally see at a UK zoo.
It’s really interesting to see the different types of Arctic animals. Just be careful as there is a lot of slopes. It’s a little slippery because of the snow!
Open concept zoo, animals are kept as closed to nature as possible. Unfortunately for us, we arrived too late and since this zoo is more akin to a nature reserve than zoo, theres no path light. We couldnt cover the whole area because we simply cant see much. Thats absolutely no fault of the zoo. I really liked the concept of keeping the animals in its natural habitat and path lights are not one of the needs of animals. The plus side, our guide was lovely and half way through our guide walk, we were greeted with a big fireplace and hot chocolate drinks. How do you beat that experience?
This zoo houses the Arctic animals and birds which we cannot see elsewhere. Walking through the snow, seeing the Lovely birds and animals especially the polar bear was a different experience. The chocolate shop in the zoo also was good for buying exclusive Finnish chocolates.
Animals I’ve never seen before so I loved it but always feel disturbed seeing animals in captivity. All the animals were born in captivity so would not survive natural habitat. The polar bear was fascinating, the otter was gorgeous , artic fox , wild boors lots to see
Amazing zoo with Arctic and other animals. Sometimes you may feel there are only few animals at one place. But still you can see some rare animals as wolverine, dhoul and so on.
This zoo was an absolute gem. The enclosures were quite large, yet they were designed to be accessable with great viewing opportunities. The animals all appeared contented and well cared for. Truly a well done job with the zoo.
Each animal species each have a huge natural roaming area and are treated in the most ethical way possible. Visitors are also reminded about how to behave arrive the animals.
Its an amazing place! Where you can enjoy with your family. the service was really good, the variety of animals will made you feels excited and will become more intersting during the walking tour, My favorite animals was polar bear, Moose, brown bears too!
Included as part of my tour package. Good place to catch a glimpse of artic animals - because I visited during winter, several were hibernating. Nevertheless it was an enjoyable 2 hours of guided tour, learning about the animals and what the zoo does to help conserve wildlife.
Its a great Park and Exerience at all. Good Prices and a lot of things to see and to do. Not only the Zoo, also the Tours are nice and rcommanded to join. Enjoy the quite time in the nature. Specially in the Winter time its great there!
Around 1 hr from Rovaniemi is Ranua Wildlife Park. It is an awesome destination and a must see for all visiting Northern Finland. Ranua Wildlife Park is open every day of the year, and has an international reputation for its extensive programs in the protection of endangered species, and is well known in Finland for taking care of orphaned and injured animals found in the wild.
Real good time it you get a chance go well worth a visit.... it did get a bit cold at times -30 lol
Coldest zoo I have ever visited (winter funhowever it was well set out and made it easy to get around. Would have been nice to have a coffee/hot chocolate in the centre but that is the only addition that I would make - in Summer it is clear you could get an ice cream half way round. Polar bears and the different owls/eagles were a highlight.
A great place near the North Pole. The zoo is so nice, there are northern species living there: foxes, wolves, bears, reindeers. Children will surely enjoy visiting it!
One track leads visitor to see alll the animals. The zoo is built in a natural forest. Children can ride horse €3 in a sround trip and drive small cars. Customer can enjoy Salmon and honey beer in buffet.
A great zoo with many animals to find and watch in action, all throughout the year. Dont be afraid of the cold, the zoo provides free overalls to borrow while waking through the zoo. There is a a ice bar and a children playground about 2/3 of the tour. Note, the ice bar only accepts cash.
Its very pretty with all the snow. Cant imagine it in the summertime. Was very peaceful, but i got the feeling the animals looked depressed, especially the polar bear, which i was more then anything looking forward to. He was just laying there like he was up to his eye balls on meds.. poor guy. In general it was interesting and is worth checking out.
