Rani Vegetarian in Santa Cruz del Sur
Description
Privilege
A fantastic Indian vegetarian restaurant. Great buffet, with a good variety of crispy starters, dahl, a variety of flavoursome curries, rice, bread, and 2 deserts.
MoreI and my friend Dined in . It was a buffet. The food was ok ,not anything spectacular. The starters were good . Main was ok ish. No choices for dessert. Only two things ,one of them was a bitter yogurt . The two gentleman were good with the service . The lady was very grumpy , with attitude.Would I recommend , not really.
MoreWe were six of us who went for lunch three ended up with a stomach ache something must have gone wrong and will not be going there again for sure.
MoreOrdered Masala Dosa and Mango Lassi. Dosa was stuffed with Gujarati style potato Shak (curry not the authentic South Indian style potato and onion stuffing with curry leaves. This a second experience where they make fool out of customers by using same curry in several different items. Do they think foodies don’t know? Not a good dining out experience.
MoreNothing great , had better tasting food at home , food needs more flavour desperately
MoreWe had booked a table at another restaurant around the corner but arrived to find it shut. Fortunately another couple advised us of Rani that they had been to many times before. So pleased they did.A great variety of dishes on the menu but the couple recommended the buffet.Superb!!A good variety of starters, main, sides and dessertIve had some good meals in Indian restaurants in the East Midlands and around Birmingham but this was amongst the very best.Great flavours, textures and fresh ingredients. If all vegetarian meals were this good I could give up meat.To be honest Id been to a Michelin starred restaurant a couple of weeks ago and I preferred this one!!! (At about 1/4 the price)Only shame is we dont live closer but will be back next time we visit our daughter.
MoreI used to work here. (may be Im biased)Best Bhel Ive had in my life. I still crave it.Awesome buffet, experience is designed to be disciplined and discrete.Food is generally tuned for International taste buds, not particularly only for the Indian lot. So a flak on google from Indian crowd is justified. However, Ive seen so many repeat Indian customers, who simply love the food. Im one of them! Last I had food here was in 2012. 10 years on, and it still is so fresh in my mind! This is one of the many different styles of Indian food.Gujarati food in itself has 3/4 different sub styles. What Rani has done is Internationalized the tastebuds of 2 of those Gujarati styles and beautifully merged it.This is one of the most unique propositions around and truly a rare breed in itself.Kudos to the owners then and now! Keep the torch alive! I understand it is isnt so easy. Best is yet to come. Educate and keep the business on!
MoreWe hired the whole restaurant on Sunday lunch time and had excellent time. All our guests enjoyed the variety of food we had and the service was also superb. We had a saxophone player, Ben and he was also excellent.Diraj and his team are wonderful and will make your guests comfortable and welcome. We also had varied diets of Jain, vegan etc and all were looked, after. Diraj and team , many thanks for making our event a success
MoreGreat food was impressed with every dish - will visit again .
Bang average food. Tried to add an additional item to my bill. Will not return.
Absolutely delicious food and brilliant service! My favourite Indian restaurant!
Really distinctive flavours, service was good and the range of menu options made it a nice change from the usual
MoreWaited for over an hour for our food it was bad, I ordered Aloo paratha and had no salt in it. They served the sides before the main to go with that and was not even warm. Never go there again. ☹️
MoreOrdered undhiyu £8 per container. IlUsually get from sayona and it tastes lovely. This looked like mass produced aubergine potatoe shak and tasted like it. Restaurant price and no taste. Ashier on Ealing Road wembly charge half the price and taste is great. Really felt cheated.
MoreFantastic, punctual and reliable catering service. Ordered food for a private event and did not disappoint. Diraj and his team were friendly and professional from start to finish. Thank you for everything and look forward to using you again, will be highly recommending you to friends and family.
MoreThe food here is really weird. The masala popadom is unnecessarily spicy, the Pani Puri Pani was weirdly viscous and sweet, and the dosa was bland. Service was good though! I don’t recommend visiting here.
MoreProper Indian food, not Bangladeshi. Reasonably priced, tasty and nice friendly staff. Parking can be a bit aggy.
MoreI ordered a chana chaat amongst other things and for some reason they thought it would be good idea to put the cold chaat under the containers of piping hot food, therefore curdling the yogurt and making the entire portion soggy and very unappealing. When calling the restaurant, they proceeded to tell me that chana chaat should be served hot and that I got it wrong! Please, I know indian/gujarati food so please dont pull that one! Also on the menu, its listed under cold starters!!! Anyway, overall not happy and even more so with the response from the lady I spoke to on the phone!
MoreTo have an all you can eat Indian Vegetarian Buffet meal after an afternoon in nearby Victoria park seemed an ideal way warm up and relax with a good meal before heading back to our homes, I was on a trip out with my friend from the suburbs to Victoria park and she suggested Rani Vegetarian as good place to eat, we arrived after the main lunchtime rush and easily got a table for two, although the chafing dishes were a little depleted, there was plenty to fill and refill our successive plates, we restrained ourselves and had two full plates of food, opting each time to serve ourselves from alternate dishes, we ended with a dessert and all washed with a jug of Passion fruit juice, the restaurant is warm quiet and peaceful, the service is discreet, leaving our table to get our next course, we would return to find out previous plates magically whisked away while our backs were turned, all the food was excellent and cooked to perfection, I could not criticise anything on offer and left happy and full but a little hot after having a few chille dishes which I havent had the pleasure of eating in some time, although this restaurant is off the main Broadway it is worth seeking out, Indian Vegetarian dishes Excel over the meat versions every time and offer a more extensive range of food to eat, I am a self confessed carnivore but when it comes to Indian food I always go vegetarian, if you are in the area and want a good meal head for Rani, they have an extensive menu if you want to order a range of dishes to fill your table to share all in a relaxed atmosphere.
MoreHard to see why this restaurant had good reviews in the past - was pretty awful food when I went. Had masala poppadom (with only a few bits of spicy onions on top), idli sambar (idlis tasted as if they were made from idli mix rather than fresh), aloo papadi chart (meant to be spicy potato dish in yogurt sauce but was seriously lacking in spices, fresh coriander, quality tamarind sauce, etc etc - tasteless and pretty bland; awful), chole puri (chole were ok and puris were good), and salted lassi (pretty awful). Lunch time all-you-can-eat buffet was meant to be on, but wasnt on the day I went obviously! Not going to go again Im afraid.
MoreWent there as it was recommended by my friend. I ordered one of their specials (a paneer dishas a takeaway. It was not tasty, the consistency was watery and tasted like some sauce was added. Not sure if it was a fresh preparation, we received the order in less than 5minutes. Not sure if this is an issue with the dish ordered, however I would like the management to check the issue and hence posted it here. Looking for better dishes in future.
MoreWe went to try the food here as it was recommended by a family member with a view to hosting a larger party there at a future celebration. We ordered from the a la carte menu as they no longer do midday buffets during the week. Im being very polite when I say the food was sub-standard, like warm and I think heated in a microwave, dosa looked cooked but was ice cold in places and mixture still wet - how do you even achieve a result like this! The place is clean and service and staff ok but Im sorry to say I will not be returning or recommending to anyone.
MoreFood was mild, bland and salty. Being Gujaratis; we were hoping for authentic flavours, however we were disappointed. The venue itself is clean and well decorated. The staff were lovely but the service was slow. We hope hope the restaurant will improve, however we will not be returning anytime soon.
MoreDelivery took an hour and a half to turn up. More dishes than wed ordered, but food was cold, garlic naan was a rubbery totally plain naan, paneer and chickpea dishes were literally just paneer and chickpeas in a watery tasteless sauce and the Aloo Tikki was a tasteless stodgy dumpling. Only nice thing was the Methi Bhatoora bread. Really disappointed as had been recommended to us
MoreWas not very impressed with this restaurant from top to bottom. The food is blend nothing special. The staffs are ok not very welcoming you and happy. The waiter come to your table and offer you popadom without telling you they will charge you for it until you see in the bill plus they charge you service charge in the bill when is buffet and you serve yourself anyway. So in another way they will try to charge more and extra whichever way they can if you know and tell them they will take it off which was the case with me and if you do not check your bill there and then they will get away with it and charge you which I do not think is nice.
MoreI visited last night with my family and we all enjoyed our meal. The food was authentic and spiced just right without the overwhelming heat from chilli. The wait staff were lovely and polite. We will definitely be back
Morewe had the vegetarian buffet۔ this is a Gujarati/Indian eatery serving spicy foods۔ great choice of starters and mains۔ Nice atmosphere۔ Food tasty and authentic and the whole family enjoyed it۔
MoreIts okay, being a vegetarian restaurant its high carb & fat with very low protein food, but once in a while its okay. The quantities are good and some novel (never heard ofitems such as south Indian idli pieces deep fried.
MoreReally lovely fresh tasting food with beautifully balanced spices and flavours. The coriander peanut chutney is so delicious. Lovely staff and very generous portions.
MoreGreat dishes but curries were WAY too salty. My partner makes fun of me for using a lot of salt when I cook but... I could only eat half because of the salt overload... Ask for less salt when ordering!!
MoreDefinitely the best Indian restaurant in the area! The food is fresh, hot and they provide massive portions. I especially loved their Tarka Dal, mixed Bhajias with Coriander Chutney, Vegetable Samosas, Bombay Aloo, Chana, Matar Gobi, Kofta Paneer, and Kesaria Almond and Saffron Milkshake. They even set up taxi delivery if youre far away, at no additonal charge. This place is fantastic and the service is always friendly and warm.
MoreI can remember the first and last time when we came to eat at this restaurant. Everything about this restaurant is terrible, its definitely not authentic indian cuisine, if your looking for indian food catered to a British palate then thats what you will get. Bland food which tastes awful and feels like it has been made a few days in advance and not fresh on the day. When it came to dessert we wanted ras malai only to be told by the waitress that the dessert had gone off so they couldnt serve it to us. The worst thing was the aftermath from eating here, my fiancé and I both ended up with stomach problems. I will never step foot in this restaurant again.
MoreI ordered takeaway last night, the worst Indian food I’ve tasted in my life. Both the paneer dishes were too salty, the bajais were oily and disgusting. The potato curry had absolutely no taste and was under cooked. Seems like the chef was in holiday and some random person must have cooked the food. I will never order food from Rani again, if like me you enjoy a treat don’r be disappointed
MoreNot good at all, this place is really loosing its standard. Same menu for years not anything exciting or new. Recently had a just eat delivery requested for no sugar in kadhi & daal. They totally ignored the request, should not eat here if you are diabetic as all dishes are full of sugar! They also charged me for falooda & did not recieve it! I don’t be eating here again nor ordering. Portions are expensive & not great in taste...a small pot of chutney is £2 it should be at least a decent portion!
MoreTasty and full of flavours. I am not a fan of vegetarian food, but this menu was a really lovely surprise for my the taste buds! Very busy so you need to book well in advance.
MoreI am sorry to even give one star. Its not even worth giving any rating. Travelled 12 miles to enjoy vegetarian meal buy it was all wasted. I have never eaten such tasteless food ever in my whole life. I do respect food but £35 for set meal is way too much when it comes to taste.Never ever again. Its not commendable. Please people do do not waste money.
MoreThe food, as always was very good. Our concern was that the waiting staff wore no mask or visor. He seemed to be on his own, so I have no idea if the kitchen staff are wearing them either. You can request a table away from other guests but there seems to have been no accommodation for social distancing. They need to comply!
MoreGreat Sunday lunch buffet! Good variety of warm main dishes and starters, mostly vegan. Well seasoned, though in my taste could be more spicy. The only big minus was that the only fresh salad was icebergs lettuce with already dry and oldish cucumber slices. But in general very good food for a good price: well made and fresh.
MoreA small family run pure vegetarian restaurant serving mainly Gujarati (north west Indiandishes. They do both a buffet and menu based. The buffet is excellent value for money. The service is great, both warm and friendly with a great ambience. Will definitely will go there again.
MoreThis place came highly recommended from family and friends. Staff were mostly friendly but could have smiled a bit more. Food portions from main menu were smaller than expected for the price. We saw most people went for the buffet. Ordered parathas which were thick and dry. Roti was thick. Not what we expected. Dahi vada were very nice, but all other food seemed average.
MoreWorst dining experience- We went on a Thurs night to have the buffet around 8pm the staff were miserable and didnt even bother to tell us that they would not be replenishing the buffet (they close at 10pmhence limited choice nothing like the images on their website!! The food was not fresh it was dried up having been out most of the evening, only scrappy bits left of everything, you had to keep signalling unprofessional staff for attention. We had the worst dining experience keep away, your moneys better spent elsewhere. Done 1 star rating only because I have to, otherwise it would be a No star rating for this horrible place!!!!
MoreNever been before so we thought we would try the Groupon offer. Unlimited buffet for £xThe restaurant is easy to find and good location. Nicely done up and huge capacity. Looked clean and good staff. The starters were nice and a good variety but the containers seemed more empty then full, so regular top ups of the starters would have been good. The mains were an issue as not hot enough.we had to ask the waiter to bring hot food but even then it wasnt that hot. The taste was nice but wish people would close containers after taking their food and with this cold weather maybe need extra burners.
MoreWe came here for a family meal for the first time and I must say what a massive disappointment! The restaurant was less than half capacity with 2 waiters who had no time to take orders. Service was a massive let down. We asked to make the food mild as there were children eating, however it seemed the kitchen did not get the memo and the food was extremely spicy enough to make it inedible! Portion sizes are tiny for the cost and food came out either extremely hot or cold making us believe that this food wasnt freshly made as suggested. When issues were brought up with management their attitude was "well no one else has complained" and we were made to look like liars/complainers. This restaurant was a complete let down and we will definitely not be coming back let alone recommending.
MoreGood selection of food and loved the chutney and salad bar in the buffet. Service not so great, nobody asked to see if we needed more drinks, we had to go to ask for more water this never came. As part of the buffet dosas are included upon request, which we requested...They never came as they hadnt been put through. The restaurant wasnt at full capacity so quite disappointing.
MoreThe decor here still steeped in a paradigm of 80’s upmarket glitz.Albeit a Sunday evening, the buffet mostly wilted and jaded. The ‘main’ courses (shades of brownvirtually indistinguishable and bland, the fresh green and fruit salads amateurishly lacklustre.Service was acceptably apathetic and nominally efficient.A somewhat dated formula here reveals little in the way of inspiration, inventiveness, or for that matter, good value.Once upon a time but not again.
MoreNot a bad place by all means. Very tasty Indian food, spices different from your average Indian so each dish was different which is unusual. Only 4 stars rather than 5, as I do like more smiles to come with the service and the place is a little old fashioned now. However, if you just want a good quality Indian meal, that’s not dripping with the usual oil, and don’t mind the food to be all veggie, it’s a very good local choice. Just a tip, get a paneer cheese dish (and ask them to not be so mean with the cheese bits and add some extraso you feel you get something substantial in your meal and not just veggies alone, especially if you are used to having some meat chunks within your curry.
MoreI would advise you to AVOID this restaurant. They missed out items on my order (should have been 2x raita and 2x green chilli pickle as i ordered two "Thali" but only got one of each. and plus i ordered the "Thali" option and when it arrived i saw the portion size similar to a kids meal!
MoreAmazing Food but service to be desired.Went here for father day meal and it is a nice place and the food is quite good however the service was not up to scratch. There was one waiter running around between 8 tables.
MoreClassic Indian vegetarian food, exactly what you want. Huge selection of foods, highly recommend the Mutaar Paneer! Thanks again to Stephanie to was really helpful and have some great recommendations (Gulab Jamun is delicious!). Ill be back soon...
MoreI have been going to Rani for the last 28 years and have always enjoyed my meal under the last management.last night I had the worst meal I have ever had anywhere.I have always enjoy the buffet in the past so I decided to go for it again. The starters were cold and soggy and tasteless.(the last 4 visits the same!!!)when I asked for fresh, starters they where just preheated, it tasted that way yakkk..I ordered a bottle of Cobra and they brought me a flat glass full of a pumped cat pi.. instead of a the bottle I sent it back!!When I returned for the main curries, the choice was very poor made from cheap ingredients,The main courses were tasteless, mushy, and nearly inedible. The fruit offered in the end for dessert had clearly been there for days and made of cheapest fruits .The service was terrible with the waiters clearly uninterested. Worst of all the food was reheated several times and tasted awful.A total rip-off and disappointment. What a shame that restaurant was one of my favourite.I will never go there again and advise the same to others.
