Unassuming spot for typical Mexican dishes also serving margaritas & milky horchata drinks.
Rancho Nuevo in Round Lake

The BEST! And I mean BEST Margarita I’ve ever had in my 49 yrs. I will be back!
MoreFirst time we come and we love it food was tasty and fresh
Stopped in for lunch this afternoon, was a little to warm to dine outside, so decided to dine in.Been awhile since eating here. Was greeted and given a table. Ordered my drink and gave me some chips n salsa....which was delicious, had little bite to it, just how i like it.I was looking for something different to eat, so I decided to try their De La Casa Ceviche....Im so glad I did, ong this dish was so delicious, comes with, fresh sliced avocado, tomatoes and cucumbers and orange slices as well as your choice of crackers or tostada shells, I choose the later....Ceviche tasted fresh and diffently a lot on the plate, well worth the money. All I can say is, Ill be back....Food n Service were great.
MoreGenerous portions, good prices and tasty food. Been eating there a bunch of times and have never been disappointed.
Morenice variety of dishes, tasty food, staff very friendly, reasonably prices, clean and comfortable facilities
MoreThe menu has changed, ordered chimichanga, worst i ever had. Had more rice in it then anything. They started pulling chairs up on the tables, locked the door, and turned off open sign by 730. They said they closed at 8.,sign on door said 9. People came there and were turned away. Was the only one in the place. Never probably go there again.
MoreWhenever I visit my daughter in Lindenhurst Illinois we always go to Rancho Nuevo for lunch then the bakery. I live in Ft.Myers Florida. Its always good food and I love the bakery goods to take home at my daughters house.
MoreNot bad, not great. I hate to say, Have been a couple times and has never really been consistent. Might be back, I dont hate it but nothing memorable.
MoreThey charged us $59.99 for a pitcher of margaritas. Are you kidding???? I have been coming here for 10 years. Never again
MoreAlways delicious. Carne Asada was delicious 😋
If I could give it a negative star I would, horrible food and service was so bad and they tacked on a 20 percent tip on the bill for?The waitress didnt even pre buss our table and we kept asking for straws and never got any stay away from this place go somewhere else and save your money
MoreEdit: it used to be a lot better, but it feels like the food quality has gone down. Changed from 5 star to 3 star.Old Review: Everything here is good, but the margarita is especially the best and my personal favorite. The guac is solid, and the tamales are perfectly spicy. The service is always fast and friendly. I love this place!
MoreNot very nice! I called to make sure they were open.she said yes till 730 we got there at 7 as soon as I got there the lady walked right up to the door and locked it!!!
MoreOrdered 3 tacos & had to cancel because I had something come up. Working at a restaurant before, it would be awful when people never came for their orders so me having e decency to call back within 6-7min tops I apologized for the inconvenience & the lady on the phone in a rude tone in Spanish said “I had everything ready” & hung up. Well then lol excuse me lady for calling and advising you rather than not.
MoreWell Ive been here a couple times with my family, but today it was awful. I am Mexican that knows about Mexican Food and seafood, and the food was not as it should be expected for an Authentic Mexican Restaurant. I wanted a mango margarita and they said they couldnt do it because they had no mango puree, then my daughter wanted Camarones a la Plancha but the menu shows it comes with white rice and potato salad but when I asked the waitress she said that it came with Mexican rice and beans they no longer offer the meal how its on the menu. Mostly all the seafood menu says it comes with white rice and potato salad so its false advertisement and they should correct their menus.Lets not forget the horchata it was pure sugar, extra sweet! Then I order shrimp empanadas and to my surprise the were decent size but mainly dough(masaand barely and shrimp. Also the dough(masain the shrimp empandas was not cooked fully had to return those. Ask for a green salsa and they gave me some in to go cups but 1 of them was bubbly and that happens when its spoiled.. Overall an awful experience and will.take my business somewhere else now.
MoreThe tacos here - particularly the steak tacos - are exactly what I have been searching for in the area: simple and flavorful! The drinks are hit or miss (and charged differentlydepending on which staff member serves you. Take-out $1 tacos (Tuesdays through Thursdaysis the way to if youre on a budget. Sitting down for a meal can get pricey, but it is a nice experience- the chips and salsa are top notch. Why only 4 stars? Inconsistent billing / pricing / drink strength.
MoreMy Family and I had Lunch , we order 3 taco dinner and unfortunately we got food poisoned, unfortunately we will not be returning back , it is not as good as 8 years ago.
MoreBest tacos in town! Corn tortillas with steak is the favorite but the pork and chicken are also good.
MoreBeen coming to this place for many years no, but the service has seen better days now. My last visit I asked for a dinner plate( cesina campesinathat included a cheese enchilada, I asked the girl that took my order for e green enchilada, she said my dinner didnt come with one, I said menu says otherwise , she wouldnt want to include even says right on the menu. This has not been the first time they fail to include items that show up on the menu.
MoreIf I could give this Restaurant 0 stars, I would. I CAN NOT believe how cold my food was today. I wasn’t late to pick up my food and my food was freezing. I don’t believe you guys have a proper way of making a Barito, my barito was filled with unmelted cheese and nothing but Condiments. Horrible and you guys should work on your barrito making skills. -Thank you!
MoreEvery time weve gone there to eat the waitress has been prompt and I just went there to pick up food that I ordered in restaurant for carryout and it only took a few minutes.Excellent food!
MoreI hadnt been here is a while and I ordered chiles rellenos and the quality was so bad. The food was so oily it was not edible. The side salad tasted like it had been bagged previously and the side tortillas were oily, a bit sour, had other burnt food residue and seemed to come from an uncleaned warmer. I have had better experience with this restaurant but will probably not stop by here any time soon.
MoreI often visit this location for dinner, but, tonight I called at 7 08pm and wanted to order a carry out, she said "oh no, we stop at 7"I said its only 7 08..no no I sorry. O checked the hours on google, open till 9pm. HORRIBLE customer service!
MoreThis is my bf favorite mexican place and I now know why....the best chicken soup and authentic homemade food chips salsa carne asada quesadillas etc etc and bonus the portions are big and prices low
MoreCustomer service was horrible the waitress/cashier had a horrible attitude and speaking very rude/disrespectful which was hard to grasp seeing as how she could barely speak English but could seem to find the words to be rude. She gave me a total and when I went to pay she gave me a completely different total higher than the initial total she stated and got my order wrong all in one order/purchase not to mention the complete lack of language barrier to English speaking customers in all I will never spend money in this establishment again
MoreOrdered dinner from them and it was delicious! We really enjoyed the food and Grubhub delivered it quickly. It was still hot when we got it. Also portions were beyond what we expected. Kudos to Rancho Nuevo and Grubhub! Great dinner!
MoreThe stars are for the staff who work hard, not the restaurant whos owners have modified the place. The place is like a buffet now, still serving though.. Restaurant now has changed from a nice family place. Been visiting almost weekly for many years and now must say, will be looking for a new place.
MoreIf you are looking for authentic, Rancho Nuevo is where you want to go. Too often people only thing of tacos and burritos and rice and beans when they think of Mexican food. Not here, while the tacos, burritos, rice and beans are fantastic, you really do get creativity, and options that I am used to from my childhood. SOOOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!
MoreThe tacos are great every time an served the same way too. Nachos are a meal of its own. Their burritos are are the full size, all you need is 1 of them to yourself is plenty. Food is fresh daily and every time you order it tastes like it the last time.
MoreThe food here is nice. But its hard to get the consistency in taste and quality. The same order feels different every time. I feel the wait time is more even for small orders. I like the nachos and dip.
MoreHad a great meal and the staff was very nice. You will enjoy this restaurant. Authentic. It is also attached to their grocery store. Do your shopping and have a great meal.
MoreIt was my first time, and I wanted steak and eggs, and it was quite good, Ill be going back, and the grocery store, butcher shop thats attached is great, I sampled, what I believe were called "chicharorns", and they were great, a fascinating store, a place too check out...
MoreYears ago we went as a family and today I decided to go with my friend. After today I remember why we stopped going the staff was very rude. I work at a restaurant and I certainly was trained not to do what was done today to my friend and I. I ordered ceviche and damn it had so much lime juice. I know that’s the way to cook it cuz my mom does it but mine tasted old and horrible. Then the waitress was just very rude and nagging definitely not coming back and to top it off the horchata tasted old as well. No mas estoy siendo honesta
MoreThis was totally unexpected & a big surprise for me. Only choose to go to this place because there was no other sit down place for a semi formal business meeting. To all of our surprise, the service & specially the food here was AMAZING!Specially, authentic Mexican sea food that I ordered was as good as it could probably get without going to a place that will break your bank.Prices are reasonable as well! You should def give it a try if your into Mexican & may be spicy food.
MoreOne of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. Tables are packed in there very close so if it is busy you and the person at the table behind you are going to bumping into each other throughout the meal. Staff is helpful and the service is very good. Located on the main street in the middle of the block. Great lighting they only have street parking so sometimes its have to get a parking space. But the food.makes up for all the bad. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is a great place to eat.
MoreThe soup is awesome and the tacos are good. Next door to a Mexican grocery store. Rancho Nuevo makes good tamales that I highly recommend. Sometimes the service isn’t the best though.
MoreTacos were very good and everything else , but I did have one major complaint I had a total of 4 shrimp empanadas 1 of them smelled like rotten milk and tasted harsh , I addressed the problem and they took all 3 empanadas from table and still wanted to charge us for them at the end . Good food just hope I don’t get food poisoning .
MoreOMG happened to find this place and had lunch their food was amazing and so was service. The price wasnt bad either.Would definitely travel out there again just for lunch😁
Moremost amazing experience ever! we got everything done quick, our food our drinks everything and waitresses was amazing with her service... worth the pay if u ask me great food too
MoreLove this place. Everything is delicious. There flavorful soup that comes with the meal warms everyone up. The waitress was nice about turning the channel of their set to a G rated show for my kiddos. As a family, we love stopping in here for a meal and go next door to la luz bakery.
MoreI was enjoying dinner with my family and I asked for food to go. The lady left our food by a separate table since our table was full. Suddenly some people came by and took our food. We inform the waitress about what happened, and she was very kind and offered to bring a new one, but a little after she came back and told us that she couldnt because her boss told her that we should have confronted the people that took our food and stop them from take in it. What a bad customer service is this? How could I possibly confronted someone I dont even know. Besides they left so soon that we didnt realize they left until the table was empty.
MoreGreat spot. Awesome chips & salsa. Ask for the hot if you like it. Theirs is fire. Nice selection of premium tequila & beers. Try a Casadores Margarita on the rocks! Tasty tacos, especially the pastor & cecina. Ill be back!
MoreThis was the most awful place to come eat for breakfast/ lunch. I got a burrito pastor, my wife got chile rellenos. First of the beans were burned and i told the manager and she said thats how they taate. Awfull!!!! So my wifes chile relleno didnt have any cheese on the inside. This place by far the worst! Dont come here i cook better at home
MoreSo, this place used to be super super good. I have to say that while it is good, it is not as good as it use to be. Also, Service is just O.K. With the exception of this past Saturday night. When my husband and I arrived there were maybe 4 other tables, and 3 servers. Soon, we were the only ones left in the place. The server forgot my appetizer of guacamole, and I finally got it when I informed her I never got it. So, needless to say I received it after my food arrived. The waitress never came back to check on us, or provide refills. Finally, after sitting there for a long time I got up and asked for boxes, and refills. The server brought boxes, no refills, I had to ask for refills again. I like to support independently owned places, but the service was very horrible. I paid 15.00 for my entree alone, so I think I should get excellent service. Also, the owner was there, and she should have told the server to check on us. I can cut some slack if they are busy, but when we ars the only ones in the restaurant, it is just not acceptable. If the owner is reading this please, please focus on better service, and serve a very high quality of food once again
MoreGreat fresh food. You have to try a chimichanga!
Went there yesterday for lunch, LOVED it. Everything was very good, especially the soup they give you before the meal arrives. Friendly staff also. An excellent experience for us!!
MoreWas in the area and one of my friends wanted Mexican food for lunch. We googled this place to give it a try. Very much the real deal. I had the Chili Rellenos. Very good. Served with rice and refried beans, tortillas, lettuce. 5 of us ate, were completely satisfied as to quantity and taste of the food, the bill, with tip was under 85. (non-alcoholic drinks)
MoreGreat local gem. I am astounded by the several mentions of race in these reviews. I have worked in kitchens with Hispanic folks that make better French food than any Frenchman. Also with white people who make outstanding international fare. Cooking and eating is about love and soul with the only "race" being human. Also they CLEARLY notate their prices on their gigantic well executed menu. This is authentic delicious Mexican food with every glorious state of Mexico represented and represented well. If youre too stupid to read a menu and do some basic math then learn to cook and do the world a favor and eat at home. Also drawing comparisons to restaurants in Chicago makes you sound like an even bigger jag than your bad grammar already alluded to.
MoreDefinitely not worth going back a second time. The food was simply OK and the service was less than that. My chimichanga was half tortilla and over fried to the point where when I cut it everything spilled out and had to be scooped back up with my rice. My daughters quesadilla was basically a taco which also spilled everywhere when she tried to eat it. Not to mention they served me first and then waited at least 5/6 more minutes before bringing her food out. Ummm no you serve an entire table together.
MoreBest mexican restaurant I have ever been to. Before I ate here, I never had a liking for Mexican food, then I came here and realized that I like it. When you order the fajitas, they serve them steaming hot on a cast iron platter fresh off the grill. Food is great, service is quick, and the restaurant is conveniently located near the round lake train station.
