Rafter's Rest (Rio Grande Rafting) in Kingston
Description
Privilege
Something everyone should experience when you travel to Jamaica
Our Captain Harvey made the trip a pleasure!
Great service. Love the relaxing cruise through nature and the guide was great as well. Loved the occasional stops to swim as well. We stopped of to get food from Belinda on the river who had a nasty attitude unless youre of a light skin color that is. Outside of hey the experience was good
MoreBeautiful, refreshing, peaceful. We stopped at Miss Belindas and had lunch which was awesome!!! Everyone should stop at her riverside restaurant to get some authentic Jamaican food. The food turnt up!!!!! The raft man "Captain Mark" was so professional, patient and welcoming. Loved it and enjoyed my stay in the beautiful parish of Portland.
MoreFor nature lovers this is a must, this shows a side of Jamaica we dont often see. They offer 2 tours one from Rio Grande Valley to the rest stop (2 hoursand the other from the rest stop up and down the river (45 mins). It takes about 45 minutes from the rest stop to go up in the hills the, the staff calls a taxi for your and you are provided with a rafter. The gentleman didnt just stare us down the valley he gave us a little history. We stopped to swim then at Melinda (Miss. Wissyto get food. The food was very good. There will surely be another trip in the near future.
MoreHad a family get together here it was lovely cool and spacious nice sunset view
It’s a hell of a long trip from Kingston, but I’m glad I did it.
Great adventure. Great people and excellent food.
Great experience with fabulous views. The swimming spots are great. I would recommend the 2 hours ride, more rapids plus you can stop at Belindas for Great food.
MoreGood experience.Yall should do it whenever you visit Portland.
Wonderful and relaxing experience
such a relaxing experience. A must try!!
More development vrequired, the business has alot of potential to be great. The Rafts needs to be decorated to be more attractive, also more services required to augment the rafting, example the sale of souvenirs, like hats( strawbeverages that visitors can purchase, also jamaican token
MorePeaceful, serene and relaxing. A serendipitous culmination of Jamaica’s untouched nature. Our tour guide was wonderful and gave us a lot of history. Here you can bask in the sun on the raft or take a dip in the beautiful water. The banking in lined with the most perfect river rocks all over. It’s like something from a movie. We even had souvenirs from the river to take home. A must if you like nature!
MoreExcellent experience! The ride was smooth and very well organised. Relaxing and fun overall! I would definitely recommend it.
More10/10 would recommend to try rafting on the Rio grande at least once in your life. Call ahead to ensure the lady who has the cookshop by the river will be present to complete the experience.
MoreRafter Owen was so welcoming. Rafting for over 50 years, hes full of history and experience. Made the trip worthwhile.
MoreThis is an adventure most tourists never even hear about. Go to Berrydale and hire a raft captain to raft the Rio Grande you won’t regret it
MoreAbsolutely amazing!!! Up-river tour and back to base - 1½. Friendly, courteous staff. Good value for the price. US$80 for visitors. JA$6k for locals with Jamaican ID.
MoreBig thanks to Sherieka, Raft captains 016, 015, 025, 040, for a wonderful tour of the Rio Grande River and for giving us an experience of being a Captain of our raft for 5 minutes. The teenager really enjoyed jumping off in the river, despite the coldness. Having a good captain to tell you of the history of the area and the river make a whole a lot of difference.
MoreThis river tour was fantastic with excellent guides and customer service! I will definitely come back with my entire family
MoreAn excellent day out Rafting down the Rio Grande river with Captain Michael, stopping off to swim and catch a meal at Ms Belindas well worth the trip from Kingston.
MoreAMAAAZING EXPERIENCE!!!The mostly lazy 3-hour glide down the Rio Grande was nothing short of exceptional. The skilled hands of Captain Neville navigated the river with a deftness acquired only by experience (30+ years of it!). This, along with historical tidbits, pleasant, timely conversation and breathtaking natural scenery made the experience quite an enjoyable one.Definitely would (& willdo it again! Something everyone; especially Jamaicans, should try!
More1 very nice ride. The captain was a very nice person Captain 57 Trevor.....
Firstly youre gonna be hustled as u enter the road leading to location. The rafts they have are not what you see when you google rafters rest. If seats are on the rafts best believe they are ragged, torn and not safe or suitable for use. Goodluck to anyone dears to endulge
MoreRelaxing, soothing are some words I could use. Ok prepare for the sun!.. The Captain was chill and the vibes very good. Definitely recommending this journey.
MoreGreat experience! If you havent been you should go rafting.
Share a relaxing and romantic ride down the Rio Grande on a guided bamboo raft with your partner. Its worth doing if you are visiting Portland.
MoreBeautiful leisurely ride down an unspoiled quiet river. Bailey was our guide and Captain. Unfortunately Belindas restaurant was closed. We went swimming too. A real highlight of a year in Jamaica.
MoreIt doesnt get any better, believe me. The people are awesome, the food epic and the view even better.
MoreA cool and tranquil environment. Our boat captain was fairly knowledgeable and friendly. Enjoyed every moment of the trip.
MoreLovely experience! Look for the locals, they provide a great raft-ride! Wonderful views and clean enviroment!
MoreThe experience was lovely. Our captains Michael and Jeffery served us well. The veiw really nice and the environment clean and beautiful lots of Photos!!! I would recommend you try it 😁 Its a great experience for the locals and visitors alike!
MoreLocated in Portland, Rafters Rest has opinions to fit your timing and monetary schedules...the office for payment and is located at the end of the rafting excursion, where you are taken by taxi to the top of of the trip...I chose the extended excursion which lasted about 2 1/2 hours...along experience we were able to make stops especially for lunch...the guide knew the history of the place and had excellent knowledge of the river... overall a great experience..will definitely try it again.
MoreMy son and I had an AMAZING experience down the river with experienced and personable Captain Winston #66.We marveled at nature’s beauty and were very impressed with Winston’s navigating skills and knowledge of the river.Totally enjoyed this experience and would recommend to everyone.
MoreHighly recommend. My Jamaica😍
It was an awesome experience. When you go rafting make sure to take lots of water and food. Its a long trip and if you go in the middle of the day the sun does get hot. But it was a uniquely beautiful experience.
MoreFor an amazing rafting experience you must consider rafting on the Rio Grande that empties out into the sea. The place nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful. Such a wonderful parish, Portland.
MoreVery relaxing and serene
Incredible experience. 8 miles on the crystal clear, cool waters of Rio Grande!Anyone going to Jamaica should plan this. What a great adventure. Plan lunch or pay for catering of Jamaican food half way down and enjoy swimming and diving off rocks !
MoreThe ride was very slow and serene. We had the chance to watch the sunset and, near the end of the ride, to listen to the sound of nature as the night woke up. The water was cool, and refreshing and beckoned to you from the start of the ride to the end. Raft Captain Michael was polite and helpful and not to chatty. Very relaxing experience.
MoreWatch out for scam!! We were driving up to the visitors centre ourselves and were stopped on the turn right before by a "guide" showing us his license and said he would be the guide for our rafting tour today. However this is an ILLEGAL guide doing his own tour on a different part of the river but asking 90 usd as well. So dont let yourself be stopped by anyone. Just drive up to the visitors centre and get the proper tour there.
MoreThis was a very fun experience. Its very scenic. The captains are very friendly. We had number 48. He gave us the history of the place and also gave us a turn at the controlling the raft.If you are someone who loves natures you will definitely enjoy this tour
MoreA little long but peaceful and i wish we knew that we had to park the car at the end and take a taxi there
MoreReally great experience! Courteous staff and fun, experienced Raft Captains. It is a very nice, relaxing experience rafting on the Rio Grande! Worth it!
MoreAmazing scenery, went there with a group of 6 including children! I made the mistake of doing the trip with a hustler instead of the agency, which I regret since they only do a half trip. So do yourself a favor and avoid hustlers.
MoreThe customer service was good and there was really no wait time. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The tour was peaceful and relaxing yet punctuated with a few rough patches which gave us some thrill. Our captain, 29, was skillful in steering/manuevering the raft. However, we did not fancy the spot he stopped at to allow us to swim. Otherwise, everything else was a pretty chill experience. They even had floating bars. All in all, we had a good time and would do it again. NB: Take a snack on the raft. The tour is about 1.5 to 2 hours.
MoreVery pretty place and a good rest stop heading to Portland. Well maintained.
Calming experience. Everyone should do this at least once in their lifetime.
One of Portland Parishes main attractions, Rafting on the Rio grande is mind clearing experience rafting four miles on bamboo raft down the Rio grande. The 30 rafts are navigated by skilled knowledgeable captains narrating the breathtaking view of mountains gorges and lush green Vines, water hewn rocks all the way to Rafters rest.
