RYE Cafe - Cafe in Canberra, Australia
Had one flat white and one latte takeaways the first day. The coffee has good aroma and a bit chocolate tasteAnd came back for breakfast on the next morning. The food was great. The pastry and GF bread both lovely. And the grilled grapefruit and scrambled eggs were more than expectations
Wonderful brekkie! I had poached eggs + potato. It was really yummy, well presented and fresh. I loved it. My partner had the pulled lamb + brioche, same wonderful meal. Friendly staff and great location. I strongly recommend it.
Really enjoyed my breakfast here. Not too busy on a weekday, the service was great 👍
Rye got the best coffee in Canberra; quote me.My mate and I dont miss their coffee every Sunday; its a refreshing feeling.
Great coffee and bruch! We love the lamb leg, too yummy to take a photo😂
Matcha latte and the pulled lamb were both nice, however I feel the serving size is a tad small for lunch and the price.
First time at Rye with family. All I can say is extremely disappointed. Ordered drinks and breakfast for 6 adults and 50 minutes later still hadn’t received all drinks and meals. Went up to counter to enquire and staff just looked at me. By the time the final drink and meal came other guests had finished their meal etc. won’t be returning.
Took my dad for fathers Day breakfast, great atmosphere, friendly staff, had the bacon egg roll with perfectly runny eggs, great breakfast.
Fantastic cafe. Had breakfast there 3 days in a row it was so good. Excellent range of breakfast options with a Scandinavian influence. Soft boiled, poached and scrambled eggs were all perfectly cooked. Coffee good too. Interesting fish dishes. Attentive staff. Now our regular spot whenever in Canberra.
Very pricey for the portion we got tbh. And the pancake I wanna try is not on the menu anymore which was slightly disappointing. Food presentation is beautiful, wait staff is nice and attentive, cafe ambiance is chill and comfy. It is a nice little place to spend time at if you dont mind the price and its def not a place to fill up the stomach.
The food is absolutely delicious. The staff and the quality of the food is like no other. Such a chilled atmosphere. One of our favourite cafes to come and dine in at.
Had coffee and a snack during the week. Friendly and prompt service. Good coffee but price is at the higher end though.
The food was pretty good, the cafe was pretty but the Belgian hot chocolate was AMAZING. It was probably the best hot chocolate I have ever had and I would go here again just for this hot chocolate.
Finally got around to trying out this place after walking by it a bunch. Dont let the crowd scare you they got us seated quite quickly.Food, coffees, and service were excellent. Definitely a place youll want to try out. Very pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the fruits and pastries.
I have been a regular but honestly this place has gone downhill.Refuse to take order at counter but then no server to our table for 10-15 mins.Food delivered to our table already cold.Orders not fulfilled properly by kitchen (order eggs with salmon and avocado, no avocado on plate, still in the invoice for payment). Two weeks in a row the heaters have “run out of gas” (If your supplier is that bad, walk the 100m to the service station that sells them?!).My favourite menu item is gone so I don’t think I’m going back any time soon. Shame.
worst !!! wait 50 minutes for them to tell me they didnt take the order!!! it is unacceptable, no one apologized!!! lousy attention
One of, if not the best place in Braddon for coffee. The service is always amazing, the food is always high quality and caters for most tastes. Cant recommend enough
Love Rye, always produces good food for me. The beef croquette is a must and good salty options, such as grilled/smoked fish.
Such a strange experience. For such a reputable place, my partner and I were so surprised by the quality of the food! We got the pork belly burger: the fat on the pork itself was overwhelming, about 60% of the actual piece of meat. It was all we could taste and really killed the burger. I think it was the wrong choice of pork belly - this would’ve suited a roast or stew. The polenta with cod was okay if not bland, I wouldn’t justify the price. They give you a piece of bread and a soft boiled egg (the best part of the meal, incidentally), yet you can’t even cut the bread because it’s so hard and crusty! Ended up tearing it with my fingers. The coffee was lukewarm, the flat white was actually just a latte, and it tasted burnt. So strange!! We’ve been here before and it was fine. Maybe an off-day for staff. Not good enough for a Sunday morning. :(I’ve never felt like I’ve wasted money at a food joint before until now. Not a nice feeling.
I had a coffee (flat whiteand the fruit toast. The coffee was really good, definitely on par with the other coffee shops around Braddon. Fruit toast was also good - came with its own fresh butter at room temp. Staff were friendly as well and I got a table straight away. For the price I felt it was probably a couple of dollars too expensive at $10 for the toast. (Wasn’t ordering any $9/kg lettuces!)
Beef cheek croquette and crispy pork burger, food was nice but bit exxy I guess
Lovely little cafe, friendly and helpful staff, Food was good, so was the coffee. Super busy little cafe, extremely cosy.
I visited for a business breakfast on a weekday. The cafe was packed at 8 am and I would highly recommend making a booking. They have great coffee, and while the menu is a bit limited, the food was delicious. I had the hollandaise eggs with potato rosti and brussel sprouts and couldnt fault it. The tables are reasonably close together and it gets loud when packed which makes private conversations a bit difficult. They seemed to be understaffed when I visited, with only 2 waitstaff for the entire cafe. This meant that there was a bit of a wait to get their attention and delay in ordering. However, the staff were super friendly and efficient and inspite of the slight delay I rate them very highly.
Positive points:Nice and friendly staffGreat locationMost of their dishes are tastyNegative:Food portion is tiny ,it’s not even enough for ladies, let alone guys like me who prefer huge portions.dish varsities is very limitedIt’s a cafe not restaurant
Was very impressed with the food here. Everything was nice and staff were very warm and friendly. We opted to go sweet and were not disappointed. For a drink I got the brewed chai. It was not as sweet as your standard powered chai but had a much more complex flavour that was really impressive. It was a very large portion.
We popped in for brunch today and the food was fabulous! Coffee was top notch as well.Just note if you are there on the weekend you are going to be waiting a while…. Think we waited about 40 minutes for our food…
The presentation was the only good thing, not worth the value for taste and quantity.Had baked eggs was not enough in quantity, Pancake was super eggy and uncooked. Only the food looked amazing but what a shame the taste and quantity was no goodThe total bill was $75 but not worth the money.
Coffee was good. Service was good. Side of potatoes, delicious. Side of pork belly - tasty but splintery and waaayyy overcooked.
My wife and I had breakfast here, I enjoyed the different flavour pairings.Coffee was decent, service was very friendly though a little slow at times.Eggs were cooked as ordered, which was nice. Yummy toast. Id visit again for sure.
Great coffee place, very trendy and especially busy on a Saturday morning. Unfortunately their popularity resulted in a long wait for coffee and having to ask staff for things that should have been automatic ie knife and butter with toast.Besides this I would try them again as it has a cool vibe, and the menu looked good.
Interesting cafe with unique menu. Bit of a long wait for food and I wouldnt recommend the oat milk they use. Otherwise food was quite delicious and service was friendly despite some small hiccups with ordering
Took 20 minutes to take our coffee, which came 20 minutes later. Was decent coffee, however took another 20 minutes to take our food order which was forgotten about for over an hour. Don’t get me wrong the food was definitely very good, just in our experience quite a wait.
Went for brunch on a Saturday and this place was so packed! Food is amazing, loved the Skagenröra. The shrimps were very fresh! The beetroot latte is quite nice. It doesnt taste of beetroot, tastes kind of like a regular latte less the coffee. The only letdown was that the service took forever. It took around 35 mins to serve the first drink and 45 mins to serve our food.Overall, the food is great but Ill suggest trying this place on a weekday. Hopefully the service will be better when it is less crowded.Score:Food: 8/10Service: 2/10
Some friends recommended this place. The vibe was good and the food and coffee were amazing. It took some time for our food to come out but seeing how busy they were it was understandable.
Went for breakfast and was not disappointed! We had ordered bacon and egg rolls, very delicious. Light and tasty but also fills you up.Service wasn’t the best, maybe a tad distracted at the time?Drinks menu was a bit confusing to locate however coffee was good alongside the fresh orange juice. Would go again and try the different meals.Food and drinks were presented nicely!
Came here for breakfast after reading all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, Im unable to give it any more than 2 stars. Coffee was nice, staff were friendly but the food was so disappointing. Poached eggs was overcooked and had been poached in so much vinegar it left a sour taste. Baked eggs was underwhelming.. this was made worse when we were given only 3 sad slices of chorizo at an extra cost of $7. Dutch pancakes looked really promising at first but both my kids were unable to even finish half of it. The "pancakes" tasted eggy, overbaked and rubbery.. even the melted ice cream couldnt save it. Our total bill came to $100 for 2 adults/2 kids.
Nice spot in Braddon, however a few small issues - regular coffees are unusually small (more size of a piccolo than a regular coffeewe ordered the rice pudding, avacado halloumi burger with a side of pork belly and the Dutch pancake. All looked stunning, all except Dutch pancake were good. It was super eggy and unpleasant, very hard and dense (hard to even cut through and we were unable to eat it which was a shame as it looked lovely - perhaps we just got a bad one.
Really disappointing experience, have been many times before when in Canberra and it’s been great. We ordered coffee and it was excellent- but after waiting 40ish minutes for food to still arrive, we called it and cancelled our order. Not sure what’s going on, seemed like a lot of staff working? Wouldn’t be back in a hurry
Great cafe on Lonsdale Street, Braddon. Food was delicious, and coffee was very tasty. The day we went was super busy, but the food and coffees came out at a reasonable time. The staff were also very friendly, and the prices were good.
Excellent breakfast at this Swedish type cafe. Ive enjoyed the poached eggs and potatoes, so yum!
What a lovely breakfast - vegetarian baked eggs & soft shell crab burger. A real hot chocolate and a fine coffee with a Scandinavian feel.
First time here. Had a Belgian Mocha which was great and a fresh and tasty Raspberry Muffin, just the prices are a bit expensive which is why I opted to just have the Muffin. My partner had the bacon n egg burger with chips which was small but tasty.
Probably my favourite cafe to date. Amazing coffee, great menu and selection, right in the heart of Braddon. Can’t ask for much more.
Great buzzy (aka a bit noisycafe with delicious food. Kipflers are deliciously crispy-better than hash browns-yum. Helpful staff.
Went there on Saturday morning around 9.30 am. Took them 10 min to take the coffee order after we were seated, another 15 min to get the coffee and they mixed up the order. Then waiting further 30 min to get food. Turns out food was not amazing, overpriced and portions too small. The breakfast board on the photo was 20bucks.. For what??Left angry, hungry and convinced never to go back.
Rye is a pretty popular cafe located in Braddon. The atmosphere and design of the venue is modern and homely. I had the spiced baked eggs and added toasted sourdough. Firstly, there definitely wasn’t enough eggs in the dish - there may have only been one. There was also too much goats cream and the lentils didn’t really add much overall. I felt quite bloated and uncomfortable for the many hours after finishing the meal. The toast (with eggswas too chewy. The coffee was not bad though and service was to standard.
Just love this place. Its my local and the staff are amazing. Ive had to change my coffee type 3 times now for dietary reasons and they have remembered every time. The food is amazing, and the coffee is the best in Braddon.
Went to this place for brunch during the 10 people limit for restaurants and cafe. The place was full but when they had a space for us, we were chased by the staff on the street to let us know of the table. The friendly staff escorted us to our table and handed us the menu. The place is a bit small. I noticed that they have a display fridge with desserts and they looked enticing. Because it was my first time, I wanted to try something basic. So I ordered whats on the photo. We placed our order while sitted at our table. To kill time, we ordered some mimosa. We received our meal after around 10 minutes. The food was basic but very filling. I would say that its kinda pricey for its taste. The food was presented well though. There are other things in the menu and I am gonna come back to try them and see what would be my go-to brunch meal.
I review breakfast cafes for a blog and can attest that this is ridiculously good food with amazing quality ingredients. The service was phenomenal. Attentive, friendly staff and Five Senses coffee was strong and addictive!
Beautifully chic cafe with outstanding food and coffee. The Rye team are super friendly and make you feel welcome. We had the deluxe bacon and egg roll and the bircher muesli, both of which were top notch. The baristas skill with our cappuccino and chai latte was impressive, with some of the best milk froth texture wed ever had. Lonsdale St has a ton of great places, and this is one of the best.
