We visited RG Jar Factory recently. We are so glad that they accommodate us even its so early in the morning. Their jars are known for having a high quality - they even ask us to step/stand on jars just to prove us how hard it is. I just felt bad because we are not able to get what we want cause its out of stock. Not all sizes and kinds are available, maybe because of high demand or what..

Workers were very polite including the owner. You can get info on how to make pottery and they will show you how to do it. They show to us the furnace or the large oven where clay (raw jaris baked. My family was entertained very well during our visit to the factory thou were strangers to them.

The site of a dying tradition, they say that the need for clay pots and such has been supplanted by plastic and metal pots and pans. The novelty of the clay making scene of the movie "Ghost" has also faded away and these days only one person works on them. Almost a decade passed between my visits and the place has not seen any renovation or modernization. Nonetheless, try to visit before the place fades away.

Another must try when you visit Ilocos Sur. You can visit this before you go to Calle Crisologo. You can try pottery here for voluntary tip only! Then you have the option to buy your crestion for 150! :Marami rin available na pottery items for sale and the owner/staff was kind enough to tour us around the place and show us where the high quality jars are cooked. They told us that it was even featured in international documentary channels and visited by scientists.

Free to enter and try your hand at throwing. A fantastic find. The descendants of the original owner are still running it and its now the fourth generation. Got a tour of the dragon kiln which was fascinating. Tried the throwing as well. Its harder than it looks.

Hidden adventure. Free entrance. Donate as you please. Its clay pottery everywhere, and its the manual, classic way. Its one thing to buy pottery, its another to try and make one, which you can, partially that is. In this factory, you can buy souvenirs, fans, hats and more besides pottery, but they can be pricey. On the side, there are kalesa riders that you can book. Some people went for these. The potter master said that clay pottery is a dying industry nowadays, something that remains a source of living for those who are skilled in making them and yet is a hobby for others on the richer spectrum of society. In this open air factory, the potter master will demonstrate first how to mold the clay. It looks simple when youre watching him do it until you actually try it. You can try it, just remember to give a tip for his snack or so afterwards. Hes very friendly and truly proud of his work as a potter, you can sense the dignity of knowing that special skill in him.You can try to shape the clay he sets on the spinning wood, one thats pulled downward by a rope. However, molding can be tricky for the first-timer shaping clay thats viscous and sticky. Im good with my hands in mixing and preparing reagents from school, but pottery is a whole new world! He doesnt tell you how to shape it, so you have to find and sense the feel for it.At first, it helped me to push the clay a little hard and then to push gently with less pressure upward later on. Your hands have to be moist with water. Theres a water barrel on the side, and its not for washing hands! Anyways, you can push with both thumbs inward to create a hole. If you mess up with the clay, let it dry a little on the side before sticking it back to whatever youre trying to make, if you manage to make something. For the interests of time, you cant bake the clay afterwards in the kiln and the trial is limited to shaping it.The entire experience was fun. I washed my hands from the hose that ran on the side. But the clay can get to your watch, so just be careful or remove it temporarily if youll try it out.

Got a mixed up of my first review. Apologies to RG Jar factory. This is the jar factory across Ruby factory. And they are one of the few who still makes jars and pots and may also try spinning or making one for yourself.

I havent visited other pottery places in Vigan or elsewhere so I cant exactly compare RGs. But I like the "factory." At first i thought we were in a wrong place upon seeing an average house structure. But inside is a wide factory space with all the pottery works. The people there are so kind and they dont ask for a fee, simply a donation, if you want to try out the molding process. You can keep your mold for a price and buy other pottery works as well. There are also some empanada and kakanin vendors in the area in case you want merienda (snack).

I liked this because even though its a bit hot. They let us do the pottery ourselves. We can take a pocture of the fonoshed product too. Too bad you cant take it home. You have to place a tip on the guide when in pottery. You dont have to worry cleaning your hands they have a washbin and youll get that mud hands clean.

The process of jar making in Ilocos is called pagburnayan. Burnay is the Ilocano term of jars. It was also called by other countries as Iron Stone Jars because of its composition of clay and black sand.

Got to see how they make jars and vases. They are very accommodating, as soon as you arrive even if you are alone they would demonstrate how to make clay pots... you can even try if you are up to it. I got to visit their "oven" too but no "cooking" on the process. The visit to the factory if free but they accept donation in appreciation of the demonstration they do for you. You can also buy pots if you prefer plus they have tons of shirts and other souvenir items to choose from.

Not much to see here. It would be great if they will do a pottery lesson for tips. They did let us try their sweet wine and we ended up buying a bottle as it was really good. The honey they sold was really good too.

Hand-crafted earthen jars and pots is slowly, in itself, becoming a thing of the past. In this place, I found the art slowly loosing its charisma to the general public. The losing of public support and the decreasing demand for hand-crafted pots due to the proliferation of plastic imitations and the high cost of production will surely create a vacuum in this line of industry. And this is a big bad news to the Ilocandia. I could not imagine the Ifugao Dance using plastic imitation pots. Do you know that the best container for water is the earthen jar? Do you know that the pinangat or sinigang, or even paksiw is most deliciously cooked in earthen pots?RG JAR FACTORY HAS BEEN STANDING THROUGH THE TEST OF TIMES. IT HAS MADE THE ILOCANO CULTURE AND TRADITION WELL-KNOWN AROUND THE WORLD. HARD TIMES OR EASY TIMES, THE POTS THAT WE USE IN OUR KITCHEN WILL SURELY PREVAIL OVER THE PLASTIC THAT WE COULD NOT USE FOR COOKING. HOW ABOUT BUYING SOME POTS AND JARS AS GIFTS THIS CHRISTMAS?LET US REVIVE THIS ART AND CRAFT AND TEACH THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS OUR OWN CULTURE AND ARTS. THE RG JAR FACTORY IS TEACHING TOURISTS HOW TO MAKE EARTHEN POTS AND JARS.THE SECRET OF THIS ART IS IN THE LEGS THAT MOVE THE MACHINE, THE HANDS THAT MOLD THE CLAY, THE HEART THAT IS FILLED WITH LOVE FOR THE OTHERS WHO WILL USE, APPRECIATE AND LOVE THE EARTHEN POTS AND JARS, AND OF COURSE, THE HEAD THAT KNOWS BEST. DONT MISS THIS FACTORY WHEN YOU VISIT THE ILOCANDIA...

Good place to get handmade jars. The maker told us that the mud/clay is locally sources and is stepped on and mashed by carabaos. They use the clay to make jars and bricks. We watched a short demo on how they make jars and it was very interesting. For the demo, they used a manually operated table that they continuously kick to make it turn. We didn’t try it but people can try out making jars. The jar takes more than a week to be ready because they still need to dry and cure. Overall fun experience.

Clay pots galore. Make it your first stop and create your own work of arts. The staff will be glad to bake it for you for 17 hours for a minimal price of 150 pesos. Best souvenir you can get from the trip is your own handicraft.

Authentic pottery making area. Itll be cooler if they designated a person who can talk about ther pots and even teach how it is properly done. The place allowsthe tourist to do the moulding to attract them in purchasing some of the pots.
