Quinta do Jalloto - Family vineyards - Winery in Vila Real, Portugal
Spent a wonderful time at Quinta do Jalloto. Loved the tour and learning about the history and family traditions in wine making. There is a lot of dedication and love in their family business and they are happy to share their experiences and knowledge with us. We really appreciated. Thanks!
Visited in October and we had the whole place and view to our self, just an awesome privilege. They had an excellent vegetarian tapas for two. The wine was almost topped by the view...
Wow the views from here were amazing. The tour and tasting experience is perfect and we enjoyed listening to the history and how the great wine is produced at this family run vineyard. We tasted 3 wines which were all fabulous, plus honey and olive oil all produced here. We also had the tapas lunch which was delicious washed down with a glass of port. We would highly recommend you dont leave Pinhoa without a visit.
So glad we booked the tour and tasting at this lovely, small family owned vineyard. Our host, Marta, was fun and informative - giving you just the right amount of information. The setting is spectacular and the tasting informal. We tried 3 wines and then stayed for a tapas lunch. Good value and they have honey and oil too.The online booking system works really well and, because of the location, its small groups only. A very special experience
exceptional! great view and a very nice host. family owned for five generations already.they also make honey and olive oil.
Amazing views, great wines and port and the owners are so friendly and informative.
Perhaps the best views in Pinhao, and definitely one of the best experiences in the region for a small, family owned winery. The reds we tried were great table Grand Reserves, and the owner was lovely, answering any questions we had and eagerly sharing stories about how he and his brother make the wines. The hilltop villages around the vineyard are also worth the windy trip up the hill.
Professional but really too expensive for what is it. We pay the marketing in my opinion. You can see the view from the village and belvedere not only in the Quinta. A little deception for me. The red wine was pretty good.
You wont find this winery if you dont know it... it was an adventure to drive there 😅 but we found such a beautiful place in the middle of wine yards and an awesome view at the Douro....and good wine on the top
A beautiful, family run vineyard. You get a wonderful sense of the history of wine-making and a really personal experience in being shown the vineyard by the family who have run it for generations. Im not a massive fan of most rose wine but theirs was wonderful! Definitely try it if you get the chance to go!
A beautiful place with lovely and exciting wines, and a very kind service. Highly recommended!
The view is stunning! The wines were good but unfortunately I didn’t find one that really suited my taste. However the port wine I tasted was delicious! The staff was super friendly. Sometimes it took long to be served but given the fact that he was alone it’s understandable. Thanks for having us!
It was an amazing experience! ThePlace is beautiful, the people extremely friendly and the wine is great!
Boutique winery. Amazing views, good wines (+honey!and tapas, prompt communication. Make sure you follow the directions (provided in the email with booking confirmationand go around the hill and NOT on the steep unpaved road your GPS/GMaps will try to take you.
AMAZING views. Wine wasn´t the best - very fruit forward. 20€/person is quite expensive for what you get.
The views are great, I’ll give them that, but otherwise I strongly disagree with the other comments. First, on a Sat afternoon the staff were nowhere to be found, I had to go hunting for them. The “tasting” is choose your own from a menu with no descriptions, guidance whatsoever. The “tapas” for one was literally a chunk of cheese with a pile of bread, not even a dash of olive oil. And worst of all the wines were all tasteless and watery with no body or complexity whatsoever.
Good: The wine was excellent. The views are spectacular. Cool drive/walk up to this cute town. Bad: Too many tourists IMHO for such a small place and makes the experience very awkward. Unbelievably expensive for a Portuguese winery. 15eu for one kind of very basic cheese and a bit of bread. If you buy a bottle, its "reasonable" but the idea of tasting different wines is really expensive. Again, its geared towards tour vans and large groups sharing a few bottles of wine to try different ones. Not a place to show up alone or with one other person.
Great experience and fantastic wines. The tour was super interesting and the location is exceptionally beautiful! The tour wasn’t rushed and we could ask all the questions we had. Lovely family vineyard, highly recommend!
Informative short tour of cellar, absolutely stunning views of Duoro valley, tasted 3 wines and pleasant platter for lunch. Highly recommend this Quinta on your visit to Duoro valley.
After a rather scary road journey to get there we thoroughly enjoyed our wine tour and tasting. Very informative and delicious wines. So friendly
We went to this place because of the idea of small, family and friendly winery which we found on the internet. Unfortunately the service was poor the cashier was arrogant and rude all the time. The view and place was good.
Wonderful little place with the most brilliant views and the loveliest family atmosphere. The wines are outstanding - definitely the best value for money of any Quinta we visited - and they have amazing honey and olive oil too!
Absolutely loved this vineyard, in an incredibly scenic location. Fantastic value for great quality wine, and the tapas were also delicious. Brilliantly easy online booking system. The photos online do not do this place justice! We got delayed hiking from Pinhao station and the gentleman who served us was so kind and accommodating. I will be recommending this vineyard to anyone who visits the region.
This place! What a hidden gem. Antonio, the heir to the vineyard takes such pleasure showing his visitors around the property and through the wine tasting experience. The tour says 15/20mins… it was more like an hour and half! Loved every minute of it. Be warned tho, if you drive up on your own, it’s hairy… but nothing a glass of wine doesn’t fix on the return leg 😅
Amazing Winery, wonderful tour, great wine.We were lost with GPS sending us down some mountain dirt road, but they still accommodated us and saved the day.Very informational tour, scenic views, out of this world.Highly recommended,Just set your your waze to Quinta do Jalotto Family!
Quinta do Jalloto was wonderful! It was peaceful and charming! Wine, honey and olive oil from impressive quality. We felt welcome from the start and we can feel that it is truly a family-run vineyard!
Absolutely beautiful winery and the staff take excellent care of their customers. They have limited hectares of land, but the wines are fabulous and we recommend visitors to come here if they are looking for a more local, family vineyard.
Amazing place and really friendly guide that will take you through family wineyards and tremendous wine tasting.
Excellent small family-run vineyard. Useful small tour and some very nice wines, olive oil and honey tastings. Definitely recommended!
I cannot express enough how wonderful our experience was with this smaller, family-owned vineyard! Our host was so accommodating and knowledgeable, the wines were fantastic and the honey was delicious. We enjoyed the products so much that we came away with a few different bottles of wine and honey. I highly recommend seeing the smaller vineyards , especially this one, along with the bigger, more touristy ones. The experience is more intimate and satisfying! We will come back some day!
Very nice and interasting. Highly recomended.Great products too.
Very nice experience! Stunning views, tasty wines and a very friendly owner. I can only recommend
We loved this place !!!! Took a hike (about 1 1/2 hoursto get there but the views on the way up was great! Not to mention the views once we got to Quinta do jalloto, wow! We had a guided tour which was great and we really enjoyed the wines (the white one was our favourite😀we were almost alone in the Quinta, only one more couple, but we could barely hear them since the place is quite big and you can sit at different spots around the vineyard. We went to another place nearby after spending some time here and jalloto was by far our favourite! We will definitely be back and we will recommend this place to our friends and family ! Thanks a lot ! 😀
We visited the Quinta in April, there were not so many tourists so we could enjoy the stunning views to Douro Valley, peace of nature while tasting different wine, as well as homemade olive oil and honey and other tapas. We also pre-booked the wine experience tour and in the end it was just us, Marta did a super interesting tour about the history of their family vineyard and the wine making process at the Quinta. We highly recommend this place and we will definitely come back later closer to September to hopefully catch the moment of grapes’ harvesting and maybe even experience the foot stamping process on grapes🍇 🍷, and of course try your wine again😍!
Great experience! Awesome view, nice wine and tapas.
The location is very beautiful and tour was nice. But: the wines included in degustation were not very good. We were given white and rose which is not the type of wines this wineyards specialises for. The red reservas were nice but we had to ask for them extra. Why dont you share the wines you are proud of in degu? The tour was 14 eur per person. 3 glases included. We bought one reserva for 20 eur bottle only to find out that down in a tourist shop the same bottle was 16. It is not fair to buy it from the producer for higher price than in tourist shop not counting the fee for tour. Over all we were disapointed and had the feeling of being kind of tourist trapped. :(
The visit of the vineyard, is definitely worth it, its maybe a bit smaller but the owner takes good care of his customers, the prices are totally acceptable (all douro valley vineyards are a bit expansive). The view is incredible. Wine tastings cost between 2 - 3 € per glass. So you can try three wines for under 10€! Tapas for two costs 20€. They also sell homemade Honey an olive oil. We hiked from Pinhao train station to “Quinta do Jalloto” via the viewpoint “Miradouro de Casal Loivos”. It takes 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get to the viewpoint. If you are a bit lazy you can get a taxi or an Uber.
Beautiful winery with breathtaking views, excellent wine and a very charismatic tour guide / owner!Try their olive oil and honey as well, it’s delicious. I recommend reserving, although it is not mandatory.Important to note;if you make your way there via google map, take the long way around as the shorter one goes up through extremely steep gravel roads through a winery (we had to turn around). It is a rather narrow, high and winding stretch of road to get there, but it’s worth it!
Our experience was really nice!! We arrive without booking a guided tour (during summer!and we had the surprise of being received by one of the Jalloto family. Wine tasting with honey and a cheese table was wonderful! We can see (and tastetheir efforts to produce nice wine!
Amazing place and amazing wines accompanied by a nice selection of local food products such as cheese, olives, olive oil and many others. We spent a very nice time there and Antonio was super kind answering in details every single question we were asking. Super professional regarding the wine suggestions based on our given preferences.I strongly recommend to spend some time there if you have the opportunity. Was very hard to leave the place because was really wonderful. Thanks a lot Antonio, keep it up as youre doing very very well.
A small but beautiful vineyard at the top of the Valley. Quinta do Jalloto was our first wine tasting experience and it was a great visit. The Quinta is reached by traveling by train to Pinhão station and then walking uphill. The walk is not easy, especially during summer as there are lot less shade. You can also get a taxi to the place, or travel by your own car if you have one.On arriving at the Quinta, we immediately got to experience an excellent view of the Valley and the Douro river. The owner is very kind and helpful. We started the tour in the wine cellar with the owner explaining about the wine-making process. The cellars are small as it’s a small family run business. In addition to wine, they have honey and olive oil.We however felt that the tour could have been slightly more interactive. Also, there was much explained, but in very short time. The wine tasting experience was great and is definitely worth the price.
A small and cozy family vineyard with a personal touch. Both father and son were extremely helpful and gave us some really nice recommendations. They produce their own wine, port, honey, olive oil...Fantastic atmosphere, will for sure go back.
Small family owned business, unique experience compared to the large scale wine producers! Nice tour and tasting of some wines, olive oil and honey. Please pay attention getting there, Google maps showed us a shortcut our small rental car could barely handle, on the way back we discovered that there was a normal way up there as well. I would recommand to check beforehand and stick to that main road (I believe M585).
If you have the possibility: Hike there! It’s a 50 minute trip from Pinhao and very very steep but the view is amazing! There was no one else when we were there. Prices are cheaper than in other places - Glass of Wine is around 3€.
Very nice, quiet, and peaceful place for wine tasting with Douro Valey view. Good wine as well.
What an amazing winery! Antony is a super sweet guide who took a lot of time to answer all our questions. This is truly a family owned place where they take a personalized approach. They also make their own honey and olive oil which you get to taste too! Their wines are very tasty, especially loved the white. 🍇🥂
Truly a family operation: tour by the son of the owner, 4th generation family vineyard focusing on high quality red, white and rose wines rather than port. Beautiful tasting room and outdoor spaces with spectacular views high above Pinhão. Their grapes are foot stamped rather than machine pressed = seeds don’t get crushed = far superior quality wine. Definitely worth the visit if you prefer a small family operation!
It was a little hard to tell by the website, but you can just turn up and order a wine an cheese board if you wish. View was amazing and not crowded, wine was reasonably priced. Service was good. I would recommend catching a taxi from train station then walking back to town through the vineyard.
Its hard to get there, but definietely worth it. Positive people, tasting wines from 1 to 5€ per glass was absolutely worth it. Family business and a place with a great view that ypu can truly enjoy.
Great wine, service and view. We arrived just before closing hours but were still welcomed nicely.
