Qubano - American restaurant in Isla Mujeres, Mexico
Qubano in Isla Mujeres
Description
Privilege
The pork tasted very salty and to mustard. Had better cuban sandwiches. Small portions. Cocktails did not have a lot of flavour.
MoreMaybe something is good here but I had the Cuban pork and the level of salt was off the charts! The flavor was good but I had to eat some bread or something else to cut the salt burn. Also the happy hour drink is 1/3 price and I think 1/3 size as well 😉Edit - we had to ask the bartender for the waitress to order - had to ask him again for a bottle of water - and I had to find her for the check - there were two tables at this place and we were one of them - she never asked about the food - but she did demand her “propina”!
MoreFood was amazing and the waitress was awesome!
Very good food. Great staff, very reasonable for location. Pay attention to the blackboard.
MoreGreat spot, very cozy and convenient. The food was delicious as well.
We ordered fish plate for two and two cocktails. Unfortunately the cocktails and food were so bad. Basic Gin Tonic was tasted like a water. Fish plate was served with out any sauces. Schirms and lobster were not prepared good. Fish was not tasty as well. Fish tasted only heavy butter nothing else. Tipp is already added in the bill. You are forced to pay. Our feedback to the waitress was not welcomed.
MoreExcellent shrimp/avocado/potato antipasto. I particularly liked the linguine bolonase. Reasonably priced and very good service.
MoreThis has got to be one of the most overlooked restaurants on Isla. Its unfortunate that so many people (including myselfhave missed this place because its on the main shopping street - which makes deciding to stop here a tricky choice. Now that I have, I cant stop coming back to experience as many of their Cuban dishes as possible. My favourite so far is the whole fried snapper. Fried to perfection with delicious seasoning running through each bite. The yuca fries and their pickled condiment is also awesome. They do justice to burgers and their pork dish is so tender.Prices are highly reasonable too. This is definitely gonna be a win for anyone who stops here.
MoreFirst dinner on Isla Mujeres we randomly chose this place. So glad we did. Service outstanding, everyone so nice, good drinks, and great food. Lobster bites appetizer was delicious. Guacamole very good. I got the Cuban sandwich and although not totally what you would expect (no hamthe pork was delicious, bread pressed and toasted perfectly so it melted the cheese, tasty sandwich. Grilled plantain slices perfectly done and sweet. Wife got the grilled grouper filet with sides of rice and grilled vegetables and she said everything was fresh and tasty including the sides. Loved this place.
MoreExcellent margaritas and grilled calamari. Great service and super gluten aware which is nice in a place where language barriers exist. I will absolutely go back next time Im on the island.
I AM A MEXICAN AND I OWN A PLACE IN ISLA MUJERES AND BE TREATED LIKE THE WAY I DID TODAY BY A NON MEXICAN BREAKS MY HEART ❤️PLEASE IF YOU LOVE MEXICO 🇲🇽 DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT PLEASE PLEASE HELP MEXICANS BUT NOT RUDE FOREIGN RESTAURANT OWNERS THAT SHOULD THANK MY COUNTRY TO LET THEM HAVE A HOME AND A WAY OF MAKE SOME MONEY 💵BUT NEVER EVER BY TREATING US MEXICANS THAT BADLY.Maybe good food but should I spend my money on a EXTREMELY RUD PERSON NOOOOOO.If you are in the island there is plenty restaurant own by hard worker Mexicans or foreigners that will love your business with out the hate of this person.Mexico 🇲🇽 me duele que gente extranjera nos trate a los mexicanos tan mal 😢😢
MoreAmazing place! Probably one of the best restaurants in the island. Walked in for drinks and were quickly convinced to dine in for dinner due to the hospitality and the menu selections. Highly recommend this place and the staff is amazing!
MoreThe food here is excellent. The menu is smaller than a lot of restaurants in the area, which allows the chef to have fresh ingredients on hand. As the name implies, there are several Cuban dishes on the menu. Our group had several and they were all delicious. They also cater to celiacs and are careful to keep their gluten-free selections truly gluten-free. Both the seafood and terrestrial dishes were well worth the time and effort to go there.
MoreThis place rocks....waiters are attentive and anticipate your every move...food was fresh and scrumptious....
MoreGreat authentic Cubano sandwich and great sushi! Also a nice selection of Cuban rum! The service was pleasant with a smile. Great place to try. I eat at Cubanos everytime I come to Isla Mujeres.
MoreThe Cuban sandwich was great and the mojito was even better. Looking forward to going back.
MoreBest Habenero Margaritas from Ivan and Angelita. The food is magnificent, the staff is joyful and wanting to please, do not miss a trip here to have a bite to eat and a drink. We love it and go most every night. 🙂
MoreGreat happy hour discount, but the drinks were terrible. The margarita and mojito were made from mixes and not done well. The guacamole was also disappointing. We will not be returning.
MoreThe food is outstanding!! The marinated pork was absolutely delicious as was the fried yucca. Mojito was fabulous!! Highly recommend!
MoreAbsolutely incredible! Great seafood options, wine, and a variety. I got the seafood special, highly recommend. The staff is very friendly too!
MoreReally big portions. Drinks were good. Lobster fritters were tasty
Good dining experience, cordial friendly service. Sangria, homemade, perfectly balanced flavors. My Ropa Vieja was prepared very well with perfectly ripened plantains. My friend pan fried Grouper with onions and garlic was fresh and flavorful. Would definitely return.
MoreWe ate here based on the reviews from various platforms. They were right - Qubanos had the best steak tacos weve ever had. The steak was soft and tender. The tacos and quesadilla we ordered were packed with quality ingredients. We enjoyed sitting outside and people watching. The service was great and prices were very reasonable. We plan to return before we leave.PROS: Steak tacosWatermelon juicePricesService
MoreWe have had dinner here twice now and it has been absolutely fantastic. Thank you for the great friendly service and fabulous food. I highly recommend eating at this place.
MoreOur party of 9 ordered a variety of dishes. We loved it so much we ate there 4 evenings. Each time was perfect. Wait staff was excellent and personable. Drinks were delicious. One of the people in our group is a bartender so expectations are high. Grouper, red snapper, Cuban sandwich, steak tacos all delicious. Highly recommend.
MoreThe food and service was decent. We had happy hour drinks which were good. However, I am writing this review to advise our waitress at Qubano put on a 16% tip automatically. Be aware when you get your check as it could be easy to overlook this after youve had a few drinks and are enjoying yourself.
MoreGreat lobster last night. Small place with friendly service.
My food was excellent! The food is authentic and not touristy at all. It’s a small place that takes more pride in the quality of food than fancy decorations or a large venue! Better food than our resort had and would certainly return! Thank you for a great meat!!!
MoreThe atmosphere was good, and the food was 50% good... one order was good but the sandwich felt like it was canned chicken from Costco. The reason for the one star though is because when we tipped the waitress/owner in the end, she demanded for a bigger tip, and when my shocked girlfriend gave her more money she exchanged looks with the bartender rolling her eyes at us. Food was extremely overpriced to begin with, it is triple what we payed anywhere else on the island, and this is the first place we regret eating at on Isla Mujeres. Id recommend going to another place where the staff deserve your money.
MoreBartender and waiter was super nice. Great mojitos. We stopped here 2 times for drinks.
MoreService is good and friendly, but note that they automatically add tip onto your bill here even if its just the two of you. The food is not terrible, but nothing to write home about. Surprised how limited the bar is, even when it comes to Cuban rum (they were out of three kinds of Havana Club). Expect to pay US prices. We paid just under $30 for two meh entrees and three bottles of water.
MoreGreat food and great service! The owner was welcoming and took time to make sure me and my family were well taken care of. Prices were very reasonable and atmosphere authentic Cuban! Entire family loved it and we tried a little of everything on the menu! Would go back to Isla Mujeres just for the food!
More“Elena Russ” sandwich was the best sandwich I ever had in my life. Vivian is awesome and her little chihuahua Cuba was sweet as can be. Wife and friend said the best mojitos were served here as well. Very homey feel to the place. Feel like your being served by family at your own dinner table. Highly recommend.
MoreAs a huge fan of authentic Cuban found.... Qubano was spot on!The owner Vivian is actually from Cuba. She is super friendly, and really makes you feel welcome to the restaurant. We went for lunch and decided to share a few different items. Vivans salad with the goat cheese was delicious with such a fantastic refreshing dressing. We also shared the 4 Cuban sandwich sampler plate, which was out of this world! The meats and combinations were so flavorful, and a refreshing change, from Mexican food. The bread and Plantains the sandwiches were served on, is that perfect Cuban style, that I frequently dream about. Everything was very fresh and made to order. The prices were great, and the portions were huge. The mojitos are the best Ive had on Isla and a perfect blend of sugar and mint. This was a wonderful dining experience. They offer lunch and dinner, as well as takeout, which is great for the beach, if you are staying near by.We will definitely be returning... and Ive got to say... Vivans doggie... is the cutest!Highly recommend.
MoreDo not miss out on this gem! We’ve eaten here twice in 3 days, and are very sad we didn’t discover sooner! We have 2 children, and even they loved everything (which is unusual). First time I had the Cuban sandwich, and I was hooked. Today I had the Quattro sampler with Cuban, Pulled pork, and 2 other “questionable” sandwiches. I LOVED them both! My wife got a chicken mushroom dish that was fabulous. Kids really love the burgers and fresh cut (not frozenFrench fries.
MoreIt’s a great place for those looking for the definitions of Cuban food, so if you’re looking for a quirky place that offers something other than the usual Mexican food, this is your restaurant. It’s also a great place if you are VERY patient and like watching the owner/waitress eat her own salad and lick her fingers while serving customers. Just be prepared to not be able to order half the menu because they don’t have certain ingredients in stock...at 2 PM. Oh and the “fresh juices” is probably only going to be one option. Oh and if you think you know what a Cuban torta is, YOU ARE WRONG. Enter with an open mind. Leave anything you knew about Cuban food at your golf cart.
MoreAwesome staff, great mojitos, and great food!👍😎
Hands down, the best food in Mexico so far.All fresh ingredients, seasoned well, friendly service. (We had the fish tacos and Vivian salad)Highly recommended !
MoreGreat cocktails, food and friendly staff. Woman serving (owner I think?had an awesome chihuahua named Cuba. Loved it.Gave great recommendations too and told us places to avoid.
MoreThis place is a definite go-to. The food and service was amazing and a great way to start off our trip!! We had the sliders and the Cuban sandwich, and margaritas. The margaritas were fresh made and tasted delicious. The owner is a wonderful woman and so welcoming, I would tell anyone on the island to visit here at least once.
MoreWe actually just came from Cuba and somehow wanted to check out what kind of Cuban Food they create here in Mexico. And we have to say its great!!!The offer a great variety of different dishes, also vegetarian and gluten free ones and the ones we had tasted amazing. Also the watermelon water and the mojitos are really nice here and we had a delicious lunch here.We can highly recommend this restaurant if you want to have a bit of Cuban flair in Mexico.
MoreNice Cuban sandwiches. not a lot to add, this is the most commercial zone in Isla Mujeres and the prices are a bit higher accordingly.Would recommend a full sandwich and not the tasting platter (which was missing one flavor in my case).
MoreGreat cocktails and Cuban food. Different to most else on the island. We had Roja Viejo (pulled beef stew, rice & black beans, fried plantainand gluten free lasagne cooked with plantain instead of pasta. Both dishes generous portions and both excellent.
MoreThis is my 4th day on the island and Im just trying this place. I came for the mojitos (which are really good by the way, fresh mint thats minced enough to eatbut I got the roja vieja + tostones appetizer and it was amazing! I also ordered the Cuban sandwich, and just a previous reviewer said, you can split it between two people. Delicious food and friendly staff. Definitely check this place out. Oh and they take credit cards, not all the restaurants do, which can be a hassle.
MoreToo salty (not tasty)food!!! I wonder why they had good reviews from trip advisor(thats the reason why we ate heresaving this for our last dinner in the island. So disappointed - bill of us$40 for 2 is definetly not worth it. I told the server that our meals were too salty, but he keeps on saying that everything is good... What?Just go to cafe mogagua($12/meal), la lomita($7/mealand bastos grill($5/mealfor really good food.
MoreTerrific! My husband and I both had wonderful meals and shared a yummy Cobb salad as well. My husband had a sandwich combo and he said the meats were extremely tasty. I tried the hamburger because it was stuffed with goat cheese and it was ridiculously good.
MoreFantabulous food. Great staff. ...Vivian and Cuba are delightful hosts. What a find - neighboring patrons were on their seventh year from Edmonton, and every trip they eat here repeatedly.
MoreIf you love a great Cuban sandwich, this is the place! Vivian (ownerwas wonderful and sweet! We loved her dog Cuba, she was just hanging around. Also, must order the Hungarian Potatoes! You will not regret stoping here. Truly amazing!
MoreLets not kid ourselves... There is so much good food on Isla that its hard to even keep track of the places to visit. But this place is the place that you NEED to visit. Even if you are only on the island long enough for one meal. The Cuban sandwich here sets the bar for Cuban sandwiches worldwide!
MoreMy husband and I dropped in at Qubano, hungry and thirsty, on a sunny afternoon, and we were not disappointed. My husband ordered the vegetarian sandwich and I ordered Vivians salad, both of which were delicious. Though they have a limited number of veggie options, whatever they make is of high quality. The sandwich came with yucca chips on the side which was great and the salad had fried goat cheese on top which was out of the world. I would definitely go back there. Nice little gem on the side streets of Isla mujeres!
