This wonderful collection of ceramics should be on everyone’s list of things to see in Whanganui. The variety of shapes and forms is amazing. One can only marvel at the creativity of the artists who made them.

Compact, interesting, and full of great artwork.
A must visit place in Whanganui. I am really surprised there are so many beautiful and stunning ceramic collections.
Every town has a hidden gem. This is Whanganuis. It is criminal that this place is not as visited as it should be.Rick, resident artist and founder of the museum, is an absolute treat to talk to, and you can spend well over an hour just talking with him if thats your thing. His knowledge of New Zealand potters is incredible. The museum has several rooms over two floors, with the ground floor being wheelchair accessible. Youll find collections of works from New Zealand and Whanganui itself, as well as a rotating exhibition downstairs. As of writing, it hosts the Emerging Practitioner in Clay Award, run by Rick from little old Whanganui. Upstairs focuses on specific potters, but also holds a room dedicated to the collection from a recently passed potter that was donated in its entirety to the museum. There are stunning works everywhere you look. This is the kind of place that should be making Whanganui a destination, rather than a stop along the way. If you do visit, consider buying a teapot (some are even practical to use). If not, leave a donation. Youll see why Quartz is a must-see.
This place is just beautiful. The works there are just amazing. I highly recommend a visit.
An outstanding gem showcasing NZ pottery and ceramics. Beautifully presented, labelled and lit.
This is well worth a visit. The owner Rick Rudd has an amazing collection of pottery / ceramics from most of NZs top potters. Absolutely beautiful. We came for a quick visit, and ended up leaving 90 minutes later -- and then only cuz our brains and hearts were totally over flowing! Somehow ceramics, concentrated at this scale and in this way, become tremendous. You must see to believe.

Weird but wonderful designs. Very high quality art would highly recommend.
This is an absolute gem just 5 minutes walking distance from Victoria Ave. A contrast of changing exhibitions and a Museum of ceramics. Rick Rudd and his trust have created a national standard if not world standard collection.
The Museum gives an excellent timeline history of the ceramic arts in NZ, plus theres an exhibition of contemporary artists with some works for sale.Currently there are a couple of other highly regarded ceramic artists own private collections on loan.A rare opportunity to see works not normally accessable. If you have any interest in ceramics per session, its a must see.
The space and set out was very well done. Loads of light showed the work at its best. What a wonderful record of Ceramics in New Zealand from early potters up to todays potters. Rick Rudd was there working on another stunning sculptural piece and was very hospitable with his time explaining what he is clearly passionate about.
