Lovely place to visit and learn about some black history
We was here.My husband and our good friend Mr ISIAQ the tourists guide from Badagry museum.
A must visit when youre in Ouidah, Benin Republic 🇧🇯
Interesting experience...Learnt a lot really, not a snake fan though, so I didnt and couldnt cuddle any of the Phytons which is one of the highlights of this visit. I did take pictures with the carved phyton outside (does this count😁).I would definitely recommend this as a stop if and when visiting Benin Republic.
Its a lovely place to visit to learn about the culture and traditions of the people of Ouidah. I learned about their practice of snake worship and how they go about their traditional rights and ceremonies. I also got to carry a snake for just a few seconds and see the room where they keep snakes
If you dont mind pythons and you like culture youll like it. It reflects the culture and religion of the people of Quidah
A very good tourist site

It was very good for woodu religion
if you are not afraid of snakes - this is the place for you. have a look, hang them around your neck, be done in 10 minutes. its Ouidah....in Benin.....its a highlight believe me.
Snakes are harmless, carried it on my neck even though im a known wuss...great experience overall.
Such a nice place to visite.
One clear attempt to interface or connect physical and spiritual environments. #Cultureuntouched.
Le Temple De Python is an enthralling and captivating place to visit. A place we’re tradition is upheld and has been passed down through generations. It’s quite interesting to see how the traditions of the town had morphed to reflect the current situation of our society. It’s an affordable and interesting place to visit. Also easily identifiable via Google map directions.
Python temple is an ancient temple in Ouidah, in Benin Republic where they worship Python. It is 500m drive from the SLAVE MARKET and 2KM drive from the POINT OF NO RETURN. It is a good tourist site and lots of experience and knowledge about the Ouidah people.
This place is an atom of Ouidahs culture. The place was properly swept and its clearly looks taken care off.. there isnt a lot to do here and as such you would probably not spend more than 15mins if you only intend to see the python and touch them. Surely youd be educated about the pythons and youd get a clarity over some snake myths involving pythons. Im an English speaker and as such they had to get someone who can speak a bit of English. There is an art shop within the building and I think they sell some nice items.
The Place is neat and the python are not poisonous
It was a really thrilling, fun and exciting experience. I definitely recommend 10/10.The python temple is located in the town of Ouidah, Benin Republic. The town is most known for practicing voodoo and in this town pythons are sacred beings. They worship the Pythons. Some back story is a long time ago there was a war and famine. A woman ran into the bush were she met a python which she then brought back to the village. At night the python would go round eating all the pests which in turn made their crop grow.Hence they praised the python and also allow them roam around at night.
Was good. Didnt touch the pythons tho..
Interesting culture and history! Nice place to visit.
An English speaking tour guide was on ground to give us a brief but very interesting history about the Ouidah people and their connection with pythons.
This is such a wonderful historical sites. If you want to know more about Pythons history you have to come and visit this place.
Its nice to see places like this showcasing some aspects of African culture. The price is reasonable could be higher had a really nice experience, everyone there was nice and the fact that they actually tell u the story and how each place, thing u see came about and what its used for.Helps maintain the culture for future generations hope these place has more visitors.I definitely recommend. Ouidah in general has alot to be visited so enjoy yourself.
A very historic site with deeply rooted culture
A python on your neck... a short visit works perfectly and they keep it affordable
Interesting tour and history of the people and worshippers. The tour guide was vast and knowledgeable about the history there. Great place. The art market on the way out also has lovely cost-effective souvenir for family, friends and colleagues.
Feels more like a tourist attraction than a temple
We had a very enjoyable time here. If you dont like snakes then this place is not for you. Very intriguing and wonderful history.
Interesting place, wort a visit. You can touch feel and hold pythons and sit with them.A unique experience.
If you like tp watch laid back snakes do their thing... this is for you.
Great experience. Particularly loved the souvenirs. Didnt touch the pythons, for obvious reasons 😅 we had an awesome tour guide too.
A burst of interesting colors. An intriguing and daring place to visit.Hanging the python on ones neck is scary but fun!The history is rich and interesting. The tour guide was excellent. However, there could be better and more affordable souvenirs at the market behind the temple.
Temple Des Pythons is located in Ouidah which was about an hours journey from Cotonou, it was a smooth ride without traffic but there was a toll just outside Cotonou. Ouidah is a quiet town outside Cotonou and it has lots of tourist attractions. The popular Casa Del Papa is located in Ouidah but it is further than the Python temple. An entry fee is paid at the Python temple before entering and a tour guide that speaks and understands English takes you around the temple. The guide talks about the history of Pythons and how they are left open at a certain period of the year to go and fend for themselves was told the Pythons come back to their home and they are very harmless. It is also mentioned that the people of Ouidah dont each Python, they worship it and they have a ceremony for it once every 3-5 years. The temple is open and Pythons are brought out for tourists to hold and put round their necks for a few minutes. The Pythons are harmless they say and they also tour inside the Python hole. The tour of the temple is ended with visiting the art center where you can buy artworks, crafts, and other souvenirs. The tour was worth it!
A must visit if you’re visiting the Benin RepublicI learnt the major religion in Benin republic is Voodum (the local godseven though it says Christianity online followed by Islam and the ChristianityI was curious to know why the pythons temple was director opposite a church and no one could explain. Maybe you’d get a better chance at getting an answerThe pythons there live for at least 40 years each and they are not harmful as they’ve been rid of their venomA lot of history resides in this temple and the guides there are always nice taking their time to answer questionsYou really should get over your fear of snakes by having one hang around your neck for a couple of minutes like I did.
It’s nice and beautiful the way the tradition of python worship is preserved. Very nice place to visit. Not too far is a slave route within the same village in Ouidah. It’s nice if you can do the entire Ouidah trip too.
The thrill... The scare! The adrenaline... that’s all you would feel upon stepping into the “dungeon” of reptiles (pythons specifically). This ancient building filled with various species of snakes have served as a worship ground for the people of Ouidah, Benin Republic.A must visit for any tourist.
Interesting place. I think the government can make the place look a lot better. African governments need to learn to present our tourist attractions better.
A sacred place that houses the gods of the people of Ouidah in Benin Republic. Having become a place for tourists to stop over to experience the python neck wrap. Opposite the temple is the Basilica, a sharp contrast. The entry fee is a 1000CFA. The art market had an array of lovely pieces as souvenirs.
Pretty cool! Guide was careful to explain the role of the snakes in his religion. No problem getting plenty of good pictures. Pythons are friendly enough! Exit through the gift/craft shop...although with some careful negotiation you can find a bargain or two!
Very interesting tourist attraction
Python Temple in Benin Republic is located in Ouidah town, the Voodoo capital of Benin Republic. Its a very fun place and also informative, you get to play with the most friendly pythons Ive ever seen in my life, if you are lucky enough you might get to see priests doing their voodoo in the shrine but you have to be there at the right time
Its a very interesting and exciting place
It was a great experience. We were walked through the historical and cultural value of the temple and the phytons. We also got to hold them, they were warm and calm. There are over 100 phytons inside, according to them, they arent poisonous nor do they attack humans.
The home of pythons. Join the voodoo worshippers to pay homage to sacred pythons. Get to carry a python or wrap one around your beck. Good customer service. I paid 1000CFA plus an extra 1000CFA for pictures
It was great with new organization, new team, improvement. Great to visit
As a tour guide, the python temple is a nice tourist attraction in Ouidah Benin Republic and its worth visiting. You will see live pythons, you can hold them or put them on your neck for pictures. The python temple represents the core of voodoo tradition in ouidah.
Come check this place out. Be ready to film and of course let the God hang around your neck for a hug!
Nice experience, tours are offered in English and French. A little onsite into the history, voodoo festival and photos with the snakes. We were done in about 30minutes. Not much to do asides that. There are wares for sale behind feel free to buy but be sure to bargain. Entry is 1000cfa and an extra 1000cfa for photos even with your phone.
