Pure Terror Scream Park in Poughkeepsie

Ive been to haunted houses all around the country as well as the tri state area, its fair to say that Pure Terror is up there with the countries best haunted houses. Amazing and terrifying themes, movie quality sets, and the actors were great. The all new bedlam asylum was my favorite. WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!

I absolutely had a blast...went on 10/15 on my Actual Birthday my honey surprised me with tickets, I literally was on his back for the whole entire time, I have never been so scared like that in my life...It was a thrill, and I told them it was my Birthday and felt like all the characters were after me...It was awesome I still cant believe I screamed for a whole hour, the props, the actors, the music just WOW we will be back next year

Just visited again last week after 2 years, still not worth the money IMO, still feel its overpriced. Although I bought VIP tickets to skip the line - Pricey but worth it to skip as opposed to waiting 2+ hours. Parking was great, 1 actor was around scaring people while you wait at least that was a upgrade. The group separation inside the haunted house was Non existent still. This will help greatly from having groups not bump into each other and end up ruining the scare. The actors dont have enough time to reset. We was always too close to the group ahead of us and the ones behind us were gaining close too so it ruin most of it. Not enough actors still. This place is huge with excellent props / effects / walkthrough but they need double the actors and it will make it 5 stars. More jump scares were def needed for this big place, there were mostly animatronics which were cool but prefer more actors.Again each of the 10 main attraction should have actors holding off groups for 5- 8 min to prevent getting to close to the next group. This will help tremendously. For the price its expensive and should be enough to pay for more actors. Overall I still enjoyed the walkthrough and the themes that were included.

Need more actors throughout if youre going to have 10 haunted houses.

Was looking forward to this place as my wife and I have been to to nearly all in the nj/pa area. Upon arriving the parking in the field was a free for all, no real direction from anyone (this is a common theme). Even right at opening there was a long line to one security guard checking times and telling you items you can’t bring in. Line setup was just chaos. After making it inside you’re dumped right into the attraction, which is one long connection of all ten attractions. I’m glad we didn’t waste money on the VIP because once you’re in the first attraction VIP is pointless. There are no employees that are directing groups in between the zones so; 1you can’t tell when one ends and the other starts. 2all the groups get mashed up together and you lose the surprise of the effects & actors. Our group of 4 turned into 30-40 because of people slowing down or catching up to the end. The “photo op” portion was really cheesy with all the monsters having big Scream Park signage strapped around their necks. There were no live actors outside of the attractions (barley any in themengaging with the people in the food court or lines. The sets, props, and animatronics are well done. The clown setup was cool. But over all, very lack luster. Once they figure out their crowd control issue this place might be worth the price.

The attractions were super scary and very enjoyable! I have to say my son had an Awesome time so much fun that he lost his iPhone. I was beyond impress with all the help and effort from the park staff to find his phone which I must add was a success. Great place to visit!

I wanted more than anything to enjoy and brag about about this local attraction to my downstate family and friends. Unfortunately, this attraction is better suited for little kids. Many animatronics, barely any actors and groups not spaced far enough apart for a better "scare" experience. The VIP pass comes out to over $100. For that price, there are many other attractions which provide a significantly better overall experience.

Lots of frights packed into this long, long series of 10 haunted houses. No expense seems to have been spared on the animatronics or actor costumes. Even though the actors cannot touch you there is plenty of discomfort in your own personal space as you cautiously make your way through narrow and crooked hideously decorated passageways, through low hanging body bags, through areas of pure darkness, etc. Well done, Pure Terror Scream Park.

While the actual attraction was pretty good and decently long (45 minutes), the customer service was poor. Be prepared to wait in line for at least an hour, regardless if you get there early, as we were advised that the park doesn’t even open until 7:30. Meaning, if you buy your timed entry ticket for 7pm, you’re not getting in until well after 7:30. Additionally, I witnessed a woman in front of me in line ask who I presume was a manager of some sort, why everyone is waiting in line for an hour despite buying a ticket for 7pm. His response was passive aggressive and inappropriate, advising that she should have bought a VIP ticket if she didn’t want to wait. For a $75 general admission ticket, there is no reason to be paying any more than that. Truly that man was despicable as I have never seen an employee speak to a customer in that way. After she went in, I heard him talking badly about her to his coworkers as well. So please be advised that while the attraction is good, the wait is long and you will be frustrated given how much you’re spending on the ticket and customer service is absolutely abysmal.

Attention to detail was amazing. I mean attention to each individual patron was incredible, as well. Great props. Great actors. Great themes. Great security, food staff, etc. I don’t want to spoil any surprises. They must’ve spent so much money to put this together. Great job!

The circus one was the scariest in my opinion, for my shorty it was the pure darkness for her. Overall AMAZING place all scary, would recommend & definitely go back!!! 10 stars

Horrible don’t waste your time your money. In the middle of the booneys: like 13th hour in Jersey was a million times better and closer. The corn dog was trash too cold in the middle oily. Not scary at all just long and annoying.

2022 - The new Asylum is amazing. Great scenes with a lot od depth.Pure Terror has the Longest and Best Dark House Haunted Attraction. The actors always come to life within the darkness. All of the Haunted Attractions are perfect length and feature high level actors. Legends of Horror was well done and seemlessly flows from one legend to the next. Its always Fun and Entertaining at Pure Terror and should be on your list of Haunts for 2017.

I visited Pure Terror Scream Park on October 1st with my HELL-oween365 partner Greg and I must say, this is a truly exceptional haunted attraction that any Halloween enthusiast MUST go to! It is the longest haunted attraction in the tri-state area. It is also very easy to get to from central NJ.Each year, Pure Terror gets bigger and better! It is obvious that Bob spends a lot of time and effort with planning out each haunted house. Each walk through is scary and full of detail!My personal favorites were (1Camp Killmore, with the dead campers in the bunk beds and Jason lurking behind us for a long time! Sooo creepy, I loved it!(2Desecration! I felt like I was actually in a demonic church for a little while, and the actors in this haunt played their roles authentically!I look forward to returning next year for the 2023 Halloween season. If youre trying to decide what haunt to hit up tonight, be sure to visit Pure Terror Scream Park! You will not be dissapointed.

Visited on October 2, 2022 in a group of three and the experience fell flat for us.There is no Staff at the entrance of each attraction pulsing groups through, just the first. Pacing of groups was a mess which affected our experience and actors ability to reset. Once you enter the first attraction you didn’t see a single Staff member until the very end. Was pretty much a free for all and the group in front of us took advantage of that, taking away from our experience. Was disappointed that Staff didn’t intervene.At the beginning we didn’t even realize we were in line for the first attraction because there was no signage or anyone communicating what was happening. We assumed we were in line to enter the Midway. There isn’t always a clear beginning or end to the various attractions due to a lack of (litsignage, so that was at times confusing.Actors were somewhat sparse, some haunts only having 3-4. We noticed about 95% wore masks - is there not a makeup artist? With the exception of a few standouts, the actors weren’t strong at interacting, relying on a noisemaker. Was hoping for more memorable characters. There is a lot to look at as far as props with some nice animation pieces.We felt there was a lack of ambiance. No cue line actors. Once you exit the last attraction you’re fed into their Midway with photo ops and food vendors. The Midway was littered with trash, food spillage, and septic leakage from a porta potty. It didn’t feel warm and inviting, no pumpkins or cornstalks.While I understand duration times vary, we completed all attractions in about an hour walking at a slow place. Standout attractions for me were the new Bedlam State Asylum and Desecration. Both were very immersive with strong theming throughout. Based on our experience I do not believe this haunt is a $65 value. If you live close and can find a coupon it may be worth your time. We drove 6 hours and won’t be back based on our experience.

Absolutely amazing!!!! Best horror theme park EVERA (and I’ve been to A LOT). I can’t believe the amount of detail that went into the park. Also, all the employees & volunteers were so respectful and one of them even stopped when they thought my mom had lost the rest of the family.

Horrible Horrible Service i drove like 4 hours to go there, i arrived the parking and entrance is so messed up. online it says it sells tickets till 1030pm i called them to verify and confirm. when i arrived security decided not to let us and another family in although it was only 9pm. i was still able to buy tickets but i wasnt able to get in.

This was a great experience. I went a groups of friends and we were spooked a few times. I highly recommend it!

This is the best place to visit at Halloween time. It’s big. It’s one scare after another. The workers are friendly and quickly get you in to your adventure, if you try it once you’ll come back year after year.

Very scary! A very good time! I recommend getting any kind of fast pass they might have. Weve been a few times and its great.

Brought 4 teens on opening weekend and we had a blast! So much fun with lots of scares. It was a lot longer than we thought it would be and that was great! You cant bring bags in so be careful with things left in your pockets. I actually dropped my wallet halfway through but didnt realize it until we got out. Security was great and found it for me at the end of the night. Great photo ops set up at the exit, along with fun food trucks. Because we had to wait until it closed to get my wallet, we also got lots of photos with scare actors as they finished. We cant wait to go back again this year!

This place is awesome! Very scary, they keep you on your toes the whole time. Best part is, they change things up every year. Always getting bigger and better!

(A MUST SEE SHOW This attraction gets better and better every year! Attention to detail is out of this world!! The owner knows what he is doing!! One of the longer haunts around the ny area this mega haunt is sure to please any haunt fan! Scary fun for the whole family! 10/10!! Rooms are filled from head to toe with pneumatic and static props!! One part Even has a working waterfall!! Check this place out this Haunt season you will not be disappointed!!!! 🎃🎃

I was very impressed with the attention to detail there. The actors all did a great job. The lines moved as well as can be reasonably expected. I frequent haunts several times a season and Pure Terror did not disappoint!!!!

Line to get in was a bit long but once you entered the first attraction, things moved a bit faster. Plenty of scares along the way. Will definitely go again.

We have gone here twice for Halloween year. It is never a disappointment. We LOVE IT. The people who go into these roles and makes sure you are scared is what makes it so much more fun. Can’t wait for this year!!!

Lives up to the name!! So scary!!! We loved it! Everything looked so real and the acting was phenomenal! I felt like I was inside a horror movie. Being chased by a crazy person with a “chainsaw” (sure sounded like a real one but I wasn’t trying to find outwas an experience I’ll never forget lol. Just wild! I’ve moved but may fly back to NY just to go again next year!!

Ive gone to Pure Terror Scream Park multiple years, including before they moved to museum village - when they were at the old The Castle location - and while I do think that the original location was better, each and every year they create such a professional, long lasting, and actor-filled experience that is at the top of the game. There is hardly ever a line, they have a plethora of actors - when a lot of haunts try to skimp on that - they have VERY high quality, movie quality like props & sets, and the price is extremely affordable. They rework it so much every year so that if you were to go consecutive years, only about 10% of it remains unchanged. They switch things up and utilize their props & space wonderfully & intelligently. I especially like the neon-mirror room and how well that is executed. (using blacklight painted spray foam to adhere small funhouse mirrors all over a hallway? amazing!I also remember the absolute BEST clown house Ive ever seen (this was at their Castle location tho.They walk this fine line of being a pro-haunt but also seemingly undiscovered if that makes any sense. The crowds arent nearly as huge and the wait times are nothing compared to some of the other large haunts scattered around NY that cost more and have nationwide popularity. They offer food at the end and the overall cost for their haunt is extremely affordable, not overpriced at all. They divide up the haunt & manage their land/space extremely well & professionally (parking too,I honestly cant give a single negative piece of feedback as every time Ive been there (6 or 7 times over the past decade.I leave feeling 100% satisfied and telling everyone I know that if theres one haunted house they should check out in NY this year, its this one. Price, location, amount of actors, and quality of props & scenes is exactly where it should be.

I didnt think it would be as good as it was. I was so scared the staff made it even better, they made sure you were scared and they stayed focus and professional. Definitely going every year 🦋

My fiancé and I went to Pure Terror (finally!in 2019. Unfortunately we have not been back since, due so the pandemic. We are hoping to get back there this coming Halloween season!We go to a lot of haunted attractions during the Fall/Halloween season and this one blew us away! We had our expectations set pretty high after hearing such high praise. Pure Terror delivered! It met all of our expectations and then some.We had an absolute blast, even waiting in line through security was entertaining with scare actors roaming the lines looking to scare unsuspecting visitors. We will definitely be back!

Third year visiting this place and I LOVE IT !!! It’s gotten to the point where I know where the people are so I probably won’t be back for a while but when I tell you ITS MY ABSOLUTE FAVE. I dont think I’ll find a place even close to what this place offers. My favorite is the FUN house. There’s so many different houses, you’ll definitely leave with some fear !! My advice is to go on a Sunday night, get there first. You’ll still have to wait but not so much.

An amazing experience! The wait in line can be a bit long however. In addition when walking through the attractions if the group ahead of you gets delayed it causes you to miss the element of surprise when your group walks up.Other than that the experience was amazing!!!!

So, the level of detail at this place is amazing. Its really impressive all of the set design. Its a really long haunted walk too which is cool. A few really fun moments and some jump scares. As with all haunted attractions, there is a problem with spacing of participants. We frequently caught up to those ahead of us and those behind us caught up to us creating a log jam. There could also have been more actors throughout the attraction. Overall a fun night, but a little too pricey too.

Great place to have fun for all ages! Depending on the date, time, and weather you can get through the park between 1-2 hours. Layer up and wear comfortable sneakers because it gets COLD at night.This year, tix were a bit pricier and there were not enough actors scaring group at end of park.

The park is well put together, alot of good props. Did not seem like there was enough actors but the ones we encountered were fully committed. They should put more of a gap in between groups so you dont see or anticipate the scary portions ahead of you. I understand the time line of this. Not too shabby of a scary park tho.

I do not normally write reviews but this place by far exceeded my expectations. We have been to many haunted houses especially in the NY/NJ/PA area, (brighton asylum, penhurst asylum, fear of terror, blood manor, eastern state etc- we traveled 2 hours to this place. The effects were incredible, we couldn’t tell if the mannequins were real or fake, the house was never ending. Beyond worth the trip we truly enjoyed ourselves and I have recommended this place to everyone. We will be back next year ! Only negative comment is there could have been more actors but I know with covid that is the issue… still was scared especially in the church .. Amazing job and amazing staff thank you for an awesome night ! Also GET VIP … if you don’t mind the line that you will be on for 2 hours in the cold, get the vip we wish we didn’t listen to previous review about that ..it is for 1 line but it’s a very long haunted house not 20 mins.

A very nice haunt that carried its theme well during all the different transitions. Actors were great and stayed in character.

I liked not loved this place. Ive been to A lot of horror parks and VIP tickets here are pointless. Once you get past the first line your in an endless corridor leading you from one house to the next. There is no pacing of the lines and everyone is on top of one another which ruins the experience. Your VIP ticket means nothing once you enter the first house. I honestly dont see how they were a Guinness book of world record winner a few years ago for longest Halloween attraction. It was over pretty quickly for 10 houses. There black out house isnt much but bumping into walls. There themes were cute if you read about them on the website before otherwise they probably went over your head. I was looking forward to this place and I was kinda let down. This is honestly a take it or leave kind of place. You wont be missing to much if you dont get around to this haunted house this year.WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!Dont buy VIPDress super comfy & in shoes you dont care about.Bring a sweater you can take off easy it can be cold but you get hot going through the housesHave cash for the end if you want foodSecurity will check you at the gate

As an avid haunted house goer, this one is definitely top tier for the props, sets and music and extra lights/sounds. As for the acting, there was definitely a lack of actors in the haunt for jump scares. I know covid is definitely a reason for that. The wait wasn’t TOO long but was pretty long and there was nothing to keep us entertained- no actors no music no lights. Pretty boring. Once inside, the walk was pretty long and exciting but like I said, it could’ve used more actual scares from the actors. I also wish they didn’t put you directly into the houses and rather had the midway and then you could choose which one you wanted to go into.Overall, it was a good experience but I don’t think it was worth $70 a ticket.

Very fun, been going here for years and enjoyed every minute of it. This place is a great pass time and an excellent way to kick off the scare season! They now have food at the end of the haunt! Ive gotten the funnel cake and its delicious. I couldnt recommend this place enough. If you do go, take lots of pictures and always remember this place!

My family and friends enjoyed the largest collection of haunted houses in New York. It was a fun evening and practiced social distancing. A place to return in the future.

Pure Terror Scream Park is always a good time! We went early and on a Sunday night which was alot less crowded and slightly cheaper. The wait was minimal. The Halloween decor was great! Although there were limited actors and there is less interaction due to covid we still enjoyed it!

Had such a great time! Was worried about going to an event like this during corona times but they did their best to maintain social distancing through the whole experience. My only suggestion is they need crowd control once you’re in the experience. Too many times did we get stuck between the people ahead of us and the people behind. Great scares and my partner was genuinely terrified.

If youre looking for a fun Covid-compliant yet still scary haunted house, check out Pure Terror Screampark. Although you can tell there wasnt as many live characters as they may have had in the past years, it wasnt lacking any of the scare. They have some of the best animatronics Ive ever seen! A must do!

So different from other Haunted Houses. With narrow twisting turning paths through the houses,that distract you from looking for the Haunters! Excellent props and special effects. The designer of this event really thought it through and has a warped mind. I LOVE IT. Well worth the money and the time to travel. It was a great time there and it will be on our must do list for next year. THANKS FOR SCARES!! We really needed them this year!

This was definitely a great place to visit for Halloween: but keep in mind that the initial line can get very long! So arrive early, wear your most comfortable shoes and stay warm. Once the activity begins you wont be making more lines: but i advice that you walk slow so that you dont run into other victims and give away the scare-points. We often stopped walking for a good minute before proceeding. For those wondering about covid19 protocals: the employees often kept reminding people to stay away from each other and had sanitizing stations. If you suffer from epilepsy: they have a few sections with flashing lights, so be careful.

As a horror experience junkie I have to say that my experience here has set the bar for every other place I will go to in the future. Very thought out rooms and great actors. My only disappointment was the cash only entrance that led to a very long beginning wait. Buy your tickets online for the fastest entry and the VIP pass is worth every penny.

Theres some good scares available at this park, but Im also giving it a bit of a break too for being so early in the Haunted Attraction season. Some of the events, like Desecration and the Legends of Horror walk, are fantastic little slices of scariness. I was particularly fond of the Big Top Horror even if clowns are hit or miss for me scare-wise. But then theres Blackout, which was less a haunt and more an exercise in frustration and getting pelted in the face by plastic tubing. I expect this will be better later in the season, when more actors are available to both keep the lines from bunching together (we had a long line of 9 people walking together at one point just due to lines getting bunched upand to add more frights to the hallways. BEAUTIFUL and FRIGHTFUL manniquins and animatronics though!
