Great Indian food. Punjab is featured in many Best Indian Restaurants in London lists and rightly so. Everything we ordered was excellent. You can book in advance but also walk-in. There was a queue when we arrived but it was moving in good pace, so we only waited around 15 minutes for a table.

Hands down best Indian food in London! Tandoori chicken was out of the world. We got samosa which was so tender and crisp at the same time. Papad was delicious. Butter panner and tandoori chicken! Ras malai was great too. Will visit again

The best parts about this restaurant were its ambience/wall decor and Central London Covent Garden location.Sadly, the food was not the greatest; the portions are very small for the price. The bone-in butter chicken came with two drumsticks and one meatless thigh. The meat also struggled to come off the bone. My naans were also cold. This food likely satisfies those who dont know much about good Punjabi food. In fairness, I guess Im a very hard critic, as my Moms cooking is head over heels better than this place; perhaps I should talk her into opening a restaurant and charging £16 for three small pieces of chicken. The staff was good, with the exception of a very abrasive, unpolished shorter man who was situated at the front desk. He rudely stuck out his hand and asked my wife and I to wait outside, when there was barely anyone in the restaurant at the time. He is very lucky that I was visiting from Toronto and in a good mood that day.If you fancy overrated, overpriced Punjabi food in a good location, then go for it. Otherwise, there are many better Indian restaurants in London and surrounding areas.

Very delicious Indian food in the heart of central London. Swift and efficient service means the queue moves quickly. We were seated in about 15 minutes and got drinks and food soon after. Everything was really tasty. I would definitely recommend this if you need a pre-theatre meal in the West End.

Excellent meal. Real tandoori cooking. Cant fault the food. We were kind of rushed out of our table by staff unexpectedly. However when we seen the queue outside we understood. No issues at all with that but staff could have conveyed the message a bit better. Irregardless I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I love this place, been going here for years, taking all my friends, and it never disappoints. Sometimes a wait, but its worth it and the food is so well prepared. The team here is always friendly and great service. Fun fact they also help the homeless by cooking food for them on Saturday mornings. How could you not love these guys?!

Enjoyed a fabulous meal in Punjab prior to a theatre visit. The food and service were both excellent. Loved the interior of the restaurant. The extensive number of framed pictures reflect the decades of this restaurants history. Thoroughly recommended.

We were looking for a post matinee place to have an early dinner, so when we saw that Punjab Claimed to be able to get you in quickly without a reservation we thought we’d check it out. Getting there does take you through a rather touristy area so be prepared for the throngs of people. We arrived about 5:15 PM and there were three people waiting outside. I opened the door and a man stepped right up and asked me how many were in our party and I told him just the two of us. He said wait just a few moments and I’ll check. True to the word, he was back within 30 seconds taking us to a nice table. The restaurant is large and seems to be able to accommodate groups I’m just about any size. The menu is large and has an extensive list of selections. Since it is the oldest north Indian restaurant in the UK, we want to do try some of their specialities. Fortunately, the menu has them listed in bold as you read through it. So, choosing new and interesting things was relatively easy. There are numerous archival pictures and family photos around the restaurant that add to the overall atmosphere. We ordered an array of plates, along with an Indian red wine. Look below for my receipt to see exactly what we ordered. The wait staff was attentive without being pushy. We ordered samosas to start and they brought those out along with the wine. While we were munching we finished looking over the menu and by the time we were done with our appetizers we were ready to order. Again we never felt rushed. After placing our orders, the food came within 10 or 15 minutes. All of it was very well prepared and delicious! The Kadu is pumpkin curry and was a revelation. A wonderful sweetness along with a medium level of spiciness made for a beautiful balance. We also had a lamb dish called Pudina Gosht it was an absolute hit that we both thoroughly enjoyed. The Raita is a must. It’s super flavorful and cools off your taste buds so you can thoroughly enjoy the next bite. All in all, a great dinner. If we lived in London this would be a regular spot for us.

Visited on a Friday evening. There was a line but it moved really fast. We were seated in under 15 minutes. The food and service was great. Really tasty and flavoursome food. I would go back. The only negatives were that the table was relatively small so we struggled to comfortably fit everything on the table and there were so many tables that it was a bit tight in terms of moving around. Diet Coke was listed on the menu but what was served was either an own brand version or the Diet Coke made using syrup. It tasted nothing like what it should have. For the prices charged it would be good to sell real Diet Coke.We were seated next to some guys who had clearly had too much to drink. One guy managed to throw a pint of beer across the table twice, narrowly missing our table both times. I cant blame the restaurant for them but they did take away from the atmosphere.

Punjab has the most authentic north Indian food in the city. They have very good options for vegetarians as well. The food is delicious with lot of variety and options available. The ambience of the restaurant is also very nice and they have some photos from history which was also lovely to see.

Honestly, not a great place if you are looking for vegan or vegetarian options. The space was very compact, leaving very less space for people to walk around the table. Service was okay, nothing great.I have been to better Indian restaurants in London and UK so found this overrated.

Food is very tasty especially Paneer Butter Masala and amritsari chole. Kaddu (pumpkinpuri is a unique dish to be tried. The rose lassi is must try. Vegetable biryani is tasty as well. I searched for Punjabi restaurant in London and got this recommendation which is apt for the good Punjabi food in London. The food is bit overpriced (for 2 with starter, main course, dessert it was💷 67but worth the taste.

Excellent Indian food, very fragrant long flavors. Specialize in Punjabi and several dishes are marked Punjabi specialties. Definitely try them. The acharri chicken is a distinctive type of chicken curry in tomato sauce with some heat and long, deep, fragrant taste (probably from saffron). Baigan Bharta is classic. There is a version with stuffed eggplants instead of mashed.

The staff was not kind, The space between the tables was very narrow, so it feels like you are eating with the person next to you. But it was the most delicious Indian curry Ive ever had in my life, No doubt.

The food took a little while to arrive but I think it is because was made to order. When we left at 8pm there was a big line outside, so it is better to arrive early.

One of my favourite restaurants in London. Friendly staff, they usually have free tables even without reservation and the food is amazing.Everything we tried. The chicken tikka Massala, tandoori chicken, Sobi aloo, garlic naan, pilau rice, tandoori king prawns, mango lassi. They even have Cobra zero beer now if you don’t feel like alcohol.

Claims to one of the oldest restaurants. The staff is very friendly and even came to get some feedback. As we were in a group, we were busy chatting with each which was noticed by the staff asking for feedback so he did not stick for long. Did notice him conversing more to the smaller tables. This place can get very noisy where you cant gear the person sitting right next to you.A great place to go for some good North Indian cuisine with friends.

Outstanding Indian food in the heart of London. Like most restaurants located in very old central London buildings, space is at a premium. But it does not feel cramped. The ambiance is exceptional. The service was very good and the Chicken Madras was pretty darn tasty as well. For a central London dining location, the prices were reasonable as well.

Take out dinner. Promptly ready to the time they promised. Chicken dishes were excellent. Some of the better Indian food we have had. Only downside and hence 4 stars were the naan bread which lacked flavor and the vegetable Somoza which were bland. Overall great food and will be back again

Bit of a weird experience yesterday evening that smelled like a silent racism.Ive been to Punjab numerous times and have always enjoyed the food.Yesterday, I took my parents to Punjab for dinner to give them an experience of one of our favourite restaurants in London. We were group of 6 and my parents had traditionally dressed (sari, simple trouser and shirt etcThere was a small queue outside the restaurant which was expected. I had to queue a few times even before this. This time around, the restaurant manager came and informed us that it will take about an hour for a group of 6 to be seated. We were fine to wait however he insisted that there was "no point in waiting". We decided to wait. After about 10 minutes, half of the queue had already gotten tables, my wife asked the receptionist if she can split us into two smaller groups if that meant lesser delay in getting the table. She went back to the manager, came back and said, she can arrange two tables however it will still take a lot of time. Id have confronted however decided to leave to not make my parents uncomfortable. Its a real shame that this so called "traditional" Indian restaurant does not want traditionally dressed Indian customers.

This was one of the better Indian restaurants I’ve been to. The food was just the perfect amount of spice. Wide selection of vegetarian food. The only complaint was that you have to pay separately for the rice, but it wasn’t too bad. I highly recommend the cheese naan. Overall, I would definitely go back.

Indian food is usually always a good choice for vegan diners and the oldest Punjab restaurant in London has some great vegan choices.
