Free museum with exhibits on the region's naval history, life on an aircraft carrier & submarines.
Loved this museum! Very interactive. Great kids play area with a Navy theme. If you want to learn about the Bremerton Naval facilities and Naval history, this is a wonderful place to visit. The staff is very nice and accommodating which adds to the experience.
The navy museum is a must see museum! It doesnt hurt that it is also free! The museum is kept clean and in working order! The people working the museum really care about it as well and want to see it thrive! The exhibits are detailed and interesting to look at with a few hands on exhibits as well! My favorite was being able to sit in a fighter jet seat! I would recommend taking 30-40 minutes out of your day and check it out!
Such a wonderful Museum! Staff are kind and friendly!!!
I have always took my son and nephew and nieces here since 2007.they have changed up a few things each time i was visiting but the kids loved coming a being able ti interact with some of the things and learn the history as well.the best place to take your kids for something new and also to learn some history. Plus its free to go they also have a gift shop as well
Free museum. Great learning experience.
Nice small navy museum, and admission is free! Volunteers are very friendly.
Awesome place. Highly recommend this place! Great museum and wonderful people!!
A well designed self guided tour through the history of the Puget Sound Naval Base.
Its small, but its free. There are good stuff there.
Great little museum about the history of the shipyard and a neat new life aboard a carrier exhibit.
This museum is above what I expected as a historical location. I had a lot of fun and an exciting journey to learn and discover sailors’ life and the establishment of the shipyard in the 1890s and contemporary world. There is no admission fee to enter, and its location is close to the ferry terminal. Everyone can check it out quickly when waiting for the ferry. I have been here two times and still feel great not only the museum’s contents but also the staff’s hospitality and friendliness.
Short history and small museum. Has the potential to be so much more. Nice staff and volunteers.
Great museum! Very informative and so happy it opened back up. The greeters were nice and the 3D printer was cool.
Good place to see some good Navy stuff and some interactive displays.Docents very friendly and helpful.Lots of cool stuff in the gift shop.Would recommend to anyone young or old.
Naval History , Artifacts, Displays , and recent information about USS John Stennis and the USS Nimitz housed In a beautiful building nestled near the Ferry Terminal and bordering the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. I served aboard the Nimitz and was pleasantly surprised to see so much about her history and how it intwines with the history of Bremerton and the ship yard. The staff were perfect . The visit was worth the long trip from Huntsville Alabama .
Great place! A lot of cool things to see. The gift shop was disappointing, unfortunately. The cashier had no idea how much the stuff in the store was :/ I had to show her where the things I wanted to buy were.
I loved this museum, very interactive, nice location.
Really interesting small museum. They do not have a whole lot in terms of artifacts but there are a lot of cool pictures and the staff is extremely knowledgeable.
How come not many people are visiting this museum ?We can go by ferry from Seattle.Amazing experience in Ferry. You cant carry your bag 🎒 inside. So,they provide locker facility.Museum has two floors. You can spend 2 hours there. So much information.Museum is FREE.😍3D printer is amazing.👌💪Many restaurants are nearby.
Beautiful Museum, love all of the history mixed with the current information on the John C. Stennis.
Good abbreviated history of the shipyard. I learned a lot of interesting things. The elderly gentleman at the front counter was rather surly, to the point it was humorous. The museum is free and there is a gift shop. If you like local history, its worth a visit.
We got to peek into the new exhibit, cant wait til it opens! This was a treasure trive of information about navy life. We really enjoyed visiting and will be back!
Very cool little museum with high quality exhibits. Went with a small gang of 3 - 6 year olds, and everyone found fun things to engage with. The kids especially enjoyed the childrens room outfitted with wearable costumes and play galley, as well as the demo bunk beds. Wouldnt be worth the trip for the museum alone if I were coming from Seattle or further given the size of the place, but its a fun and easy add on to other sightseeing activities, or a GREAT rainy day option for local families. Dont miss Harborside Fountain Park right next door.
We live right around the corner from this place but are fairly new to the area and decided to go in while waiting for the ferry to take us to Seattle. The museum is setup very nicely and it is clean. This is definitely a place to visit.
This is a Great Museum, lots of naval history as well as a glimpse into the shipyards over the years. I learned there is an apprenticeship program for those interested in a pipefitters career. The time line takes you from the early days of the Navy in Seattle to the current aircraft carriers in the area. This is free and self guided but youll have no problem getting around. Gift and souvenir shop at the end. The whole thing can be done in less than an hour.
A pretty detailed museum thats worth a visit if youre in the area. The area is a bit difficult to park and navigate for out of towners. Try the nearby parking garage. The museum is free and offers some unique pieces to look at--mainly stuff from the Bremerton Naval Yard.
You can actually stop by while you wait for the ferry to Seattle....the kids and adults cool down on the submarine inspired fountains....its a cool place
Really cool museum! Loved the upstairs portion. All the volunteers were super nice BUT THERE IS NO PARKING HERE!! if you drive down youll end up on a ferry to seattle. If you have a trailer, good luck! I wish there were warnings about this before we almost boarded a ferry with our trailer. We had to park on the street but at least it was free!
I felt that the stories and information about the shipyards history were very limited. There were other displays about naval boats and life on a nuclear aircraft carrier. Just an average museum for me.
I was surprised what I learned and it was a great place. I had out of town guest and wanted them to know about the military presence in our community. So proud we have a great place to take people too like this museum.
Small and unassuming but well worth the time and cost of admission (free!). Having served on three carriers, the upper level does a great job describing the jobs and life aboard a super carrier. Also has exhibits on small craft and some sections that rotate. The lower level covers the shipyards beginnings. We had about an hour which was adequate but if you read more and listen to all of the videos you might want another half hour. The gift shop is also well appointed.
Lots of little tables and chairs to enjoy lunch by the water.
First, its FREE,, donations accepted, very cool little museum, right on the water....of course. Covers the history of the area very well, some incredible pieces of history. The park next to the museum, is great, if you have 1 year olds to early teens and its sunny make sure they have swim suits awesome park. Right next to the ferry terminal too! And good options for a nice patio or two for food and libations...highly recommend going here.
fabulous and very interesting. so much history and it was free! THERE are 2 floors of various eras about the navy n ships. i cant wait to go again as we didnt have enough time to go thru it all. THE volunteers were amazing nice n funny. donations are accepted. thanks for such a great museum. AnnaF.
Awesome place for the family. Neat little section for the kids too. It is free and right next to the ferried so you can catch it and go to Seattle or come easily from Seattle. Its an educational museum as well as interesting to learn about.
Great little museum. Definitely worth a visit! I only had a couple of hours before returning with the ferry. Would have spent more time here and less at USS Turner Joy, if I had realized the museum’s potential
Great museum to learn the history of our armed forces and country. Very easy to understand displays of many watercrafts used by tbe Navy, with some hands on interactive pieces. The retired veterans help man the gift shop, and have great insight and stories to share.
Friendly service and illustration. A bunch of interesting things about navy. Not very big but delicate. If you are fans of navy, dont miss it. The location is very near the ferry boat station. Few minutes of walking.
Beautiful museum a lot of information very important.
This was such a great museum and its free! The staff/volunteers were very helpful. They had lockers to hold larger bags at no charge. I was incredibly moved by the photography exhibit they had on the 2nd floor. I was in Bremerton recreating a photograph my Granddaddy took while his ship was pulling into Puget Sound. He was around the same age and around the same time period as Mr. Steen. Seeing Mr. Steens work allowed me to feel even closer to my Granddaddy who passed away a year after I was born. Thank you for making this connection possible!
Absolutely incredible, wonderful place. Very kid friendly. Great quality displays. Wonderful gift shop. Everyone there is so friendly and welcoming. I cant say enough about how much my family loves it here!
Pretty sparse on content, but its also free... so you get what you pay for.
Wonderful place that you learn all about the navy and nautical Puget Sound. Great staff was educational and every time I go they are offering classes for children. Kids love going here on rainy days. And it is free.
We went to this museum for a Cub Scouts Motor Away adventure which was outstanding. I forget the name of the guide for our group but she was super fun and knowledgeable. The museum has lots to offer and I was surprised I never had a school field trip there as a kid. Definitely worth a visit!
This was a very cool and informative museum. A lot of effort went in to making visitors really understand what life is like on board an aircraft carrier and I learned quite a lot about Bremertons history. A quality visit should take you about 2 hours or so.
What I enjoyed most about this museum is the knowledge of the museum staff. They are very friendly and enthusiastic during my visit. I learned a lot about the shipyard history and how much it affects the city even today. A lot of reverence to these unsung heroes especially those who worked to get those ships during wartime years (WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam). Thank you for such a great experience during my visit!
Pretty cool free museum. A lot of pride with their displays and knowledgable volunteers. The sub and aircraft displays are very insightful. The park area behind the museum is also nice and peaceful and a nice place to take in the water.
No one goes to these places. Why do the people that review the two Navy Museums rate them so highly? No way in hell that the places in question should rate higher than two stars.I visited the Under Sea Museum previously and both suffer from a lack of a physical exhibit although the facility that dismantled the aging ships, a far more interesting place, is literally next door. Both of the Navy Museums should have entire sections if not decommissioned vessels docked at the Museum like was done in Fall River Massachusetts where 3 naval vessels are docked there and numerous smaller vessels inside. Yes one was a few dollars to enter and the other is free; but our time is also a commodity and going to the Naval Museums is a waste of it.The only saving grace is the incredibly beautiful park that lies behind the Museum. It has a series of large fountains of brass or copper with pathways of stone in a ribbon shape. There are large metal sculptures throughout. At the end, is puget sound. When we were there, we saw the USS Nimitz leaving port in regalia with a helicopter hovering overhead; I assume for a photo op.There is also a pretty nice fountain in front of the shipyard and a decent downtown. Its the things around the Museum that makes it worth while, but again the Museum itself is a let down.I will drop some photos later.
If have to say the overall experience is probably better suited to older children and their parents, but I took my kids here and we had a lot of fun. They have a lot of different exhibits that show various hurricane aspects of the shipyard and the craft theyve worked on over time up through more modern displays. My kids particularly enjoyed the tattoo exhibit that featured a tattoo projector. Well done!
Well kept free museum... The workers were friendly and it was fairly general but my family learned a lot and it kept us engaged :-)
