A beautiful place to visit near el Morro Fortification! 👍🏻
When sailors reached this gate; they would kiss the ground with happiness that they survived the voyage. Beautiful architecture and the ‘out side doors of the gate are awesomely talked compared to the opening into the ‘city’. The grade/ramp gives you a good work out going up.
MoreJust an entranceway not too much to see here.
Beautiful Puerto Rico❣️
This massive red door represents the grand entrance for people deboarding ships entering the city back in the early days and was once intended for dignitaries. It is now a tourist attraction and marks the southwestern edge of the trail around the historic site of El Morro castle / fort.
MoreAwesome! Beautiful and I highly recommend putting it on your bucket list!
This is an impressive Gate to the City! Amazing well worth the visit!
Nice place to stop and wander with coffee. Street between the church and gate is beautiful with many cute cats lounging around.
MoreBeautiful place! Nice walking paths.
If you like history this place is wonderful. Definitely pop by and check out the gate in the wall around San Juan where the dignitaries would arrive and be received. Definitely check it out either on your way to or on your way from the fort in old San Juan.
MoreMust see landmark in Old San Juan.
Walking and more walking but you enter the gates of San Juan walking the same paths as other dignitaries making their way to the Cathedral.
MoreThis should be a definite stop for any person who loves cats as well as learning new things. Very friendly kitties all over, historic parts of PR, and a beautiful view from the boardwalk. Whats not to love about this place?
MoreAwesome walkway along the coast. Takes you from downtown old San Juan into the back side of the del morro. You can see many cats, iguanas and lizards along your walk.
MoreHistoric place. Great place to get scenic view of the walled city along the sea shore. Many attractions and historic spots are within walking distance
MoreI absoluptly loved the view and boardwalk overlooking both the fort and the ocean. Its a very beautiful and serene place. The design and atmosphere of this place compares to nothing. Though, each part of Puerto Rico is beautiful, each place is very unique and different and this place certainly feels unique and different. Perfect for family photo Christmas cards opportunities. Its just beautiful.
MoreAfter months at sea, the ships that came from Spain docked here and the Marinos entered through this door directly towards the cathedral to thank God for arriving safely.
MoreHistorical gate. The gate itself isnt visually impressive, but this is a great spot to view the city walls.
MoreBeautiful, historical castles and sculptures
Surprisingly secluded place. Very beautiful walkway.
Nice area for walking. The surroundings are beautiful. Bring your sunglasses 🕶 and hat 🧢 because the 82 degrees feel like 91 ☀️☀️☀️
MoreImpressive structure and well maintained and safe to walk around.
Great historic place and a convenient entrance to the city after touring the coast.

MoreFit with good foil clothes comfortable that will have to walk but will be worth pa. Fence with water. And with an excellent camera and enjoy the cyloft dots at special days summer, these photos were in Christmas. Enjoy and take an eternal memory of these streets and scenes
MoreIf you were a dignitary from Spain between the 16th and 19th centuries, you would enter the city through this place, called the Puerta de San Juan. The San Juan gate as you see it today was built in 1635. It has been repaired and restored over the years, and is the last remaining of the five main gates of Old San Juan. You can take a walk through this site where you will see beautiful Spanish style residences and a spectacular view.
MoreAmazing views and walk around the old San Juan. Entering the Puerta de San Juan transport you to the colonization history.
MoreOne of the many site Viejo San Juan area has to offer. Not many know the true history about this passage. This was the way the Spaniards/Conquistadors controlled the people who entered into the city. Its location near a few other spots that should be visited as well. When you enter through the passage, you see a very nice block with the old architecture building. As you exit this passage you have a beautiful view of Paseo de la Princesa with El Morro in the distance. Those are other location I will recommend to visit.
MoreBeautiful place to chill and watch the boats go in & out of the port. Fabulous monument. A must see!
MoreIf you love architecture and history. Visit la Puerta de San Juan
A city full of culture, pastel buildings, beautiful architecture, cobblestone roads, oceanviews, and so much history. I learned a lot from this city. Respect the people and the town, and you will go a long way here... and in life.
MoreI was fortunate enough to see the sun set at this site. Breath taking views aand so much history.
MoreOld San Juan is a step back in history. One of the earliest examples of European settlements in the new world.
MoreI think that this is all the same place, either way its all in walking distance. Very lovely area
MoreFor centuries, Spanish dignitaries entered San Juan through this gate. This gate was San Juans formal or symbolic entrance. Spanish guards used to secure the gates at night. If you were outside when the gates closed, you had to remain outside until the gates were re-opened the next morning.
MorePretty impressive to see the structure. Nice walk and you can see some of Puerto Rico’s beauty. They had street venders and security around as well.
MoreAs you follow the wall that encircles the city you reach this area and it is breath taking to behold.
MoreWe walked all the way from the Paseo de la Princesa to the red gate. It was a beautiful walk. The gate and walk are wheelchair friendly and while steep my MILs motorized wheelchair was able to handle it all.
MoreThis is a great place to visit and has lots of great views. Filled with history and a great place to take pictures. There are hundreds of feral cats along the walkway that are available for adoption, but it doesnt appear that anything is being done to stop the breeding. This is also very close to Poncé de Leons "Casa Blanca" and the famed "Fountain of Youth."
MoreAmazing place. Surprised that no one mentioned the hundreds of cats along the way. Unfortunately we didn’t have the capacity to adopt any.
MoreTheres a great trail that you can take from here, along the water, just outside of the city wall. It takes you all the way up and through Castillo Felipe del Morro.
MoreThe Paseo del Morro (walk from San Felipe del Morro to the San Juan Gatewas magnificent! Take the walk just before sunset and stop at the gate for a beautiful view of the sun setting into the water. There were tons of cats along the walkway, but otherwise the path was not crowded.
MoreBrought me nice memories.. Great place to walk and sightseeing..
Old San San Juan was a completely walled city back in Spanish colonial times. There were 7 gates through the walls that protected the city. The San Juan gate is the only remaining one out of the 7. Its a great place to start or end your walk in the "Paseo de la Princesa" in Old San Juan. From here you can now also walk over to the San Felipe del Morro fort.
