41- 42 Cosser St, Lambeth, London SE1 7BU, Al Qunaytirah
Above a traditional London pub, this hip hostel is a 5-minute walk from the Lambeth North Tube station, less than 1 mile from Big Ben (landmark clocktower), and 1.9 miles from the British Museum. The no-frills, mixed-gender dorms come with free linens and Wi-Fi, plus lockers and shared bathroom facilities.Continental breakfast is free, while the downstairs pub serves drinks 24/7, and specialises in burgers and classic British pub grub. It also has a pool table.
I work in hospitality and am Really disappointed!!I was checked by a friendly receptionist but he forgot to mention my bed number and three bed system.I requested top bed wich I took.I came back to the hostel the third day after exploring and my bed got cleared and my personal belongings where gone! But my check out was a day later. (All of them where cleared!when I asked a short girl with short blond hair with an (Eastern European accent)where it went bc I was shocked she started accusing me that it was my own fault and she started to threaten me by charging me!and someone else Got checked in into my bed!!The worst hospitality I have ever experienced! She delayed even taking the effort of looking and helping me bc the pub was busy (then don’t work at both!I had to wait until the next morning check out day (really stressful and my morning goneThom has been amazing and was te only one taking an effort! But the next day I discovered that another receptionist told me the wrong check out time (and after not getting any cooperation with the theft of my belongingsshe mentioned that she wasn’t aloud to let me pack my stuff (but I was downstairs to wait for them to communicate about the situationand housekeeping couldn’t remember even the time of cleaning. The manager was to arrogant to even decide to speak to me and send me one of his staff. POORLY SERVICE with THEFT!Please even if you consider even staying here take this in consideration. The least they could’ve done is adjusted my payment and do a refund to replace my things. But they wouldn’t even think about it!Also another receptionist told me the Cameras in the hostel aren’t even working!!
The toilet and showers dirty all the time, they dont make me any discount in the bar has they did and when i came someone stoll a bag to a woman, the lockers has not padlocke, and when they do the check out they take my towl and book, really not good place to stay, better
🚇 Lambeth North🍺 £6.10 Madri❤️ A relaxing side street pub with beers, burgers & beds..The Steam Engine sits in a quiet side street just a stone’s throw from the Imperial war museum. The nearest tube is Lambeth North..This pub was built in the 1930’s and has had some alterations done over the years. The decor here is stylish, vibrant and has a contemporary feel. This pub is a good size and has a cosy feel to it. This pub also has a hostel which is located on the upper floors..There is a good selection of beers here with a mix of brews from London and further afield. I had a pint of Madri which was spot on and cost just over six quid. The menu here is all about banging burgers by @burgercraftlondon . I had the Hen Solo chicken burger which was delicious and had a spicy kick to it. My burger and fries cost £12..I really enjoyed the ambience here, this pub has a nice vibe and a laidback feel. I visited early evening on a Saturday and there were a dozen or so punters in attendance. The service was great, the two staff on duty were very welcoming and bubbly..This pub is part of the @wearepublove group of pubs who have six pubs across London. I have visited all but one of their establishments and each one has been first class. The @steamenginewaterloo is an excellent pub and definitely worth a visit..ℹ️ Information correct on visiting 24/09/22
Nice little hostel right near Imperial War Museum. Beds are comfy, showers hot and amazing pressure. Good food and drink and lovely staff, all very reasonable on the pocket. Only negatives, no light in the individual bunks and middle bunks in are hard to get in to and as there are three its a little squished.
Im only giving 4 stars because the staff is so exceptional.Overall, I found the experience very uncomfortable. The room was incredibly cramped, you could not even open the suitcase because there was no space. Also 3 levels of bunk beds. I was on the top bunk and it was incredibly shaky all the time. Only one working toilet for the whole floor. I would guess thats a total of 40 beds.Beds themselves were comfortable.
Nice pub, just very disappointed with the lunch deal. There should be a notice about the minuscule size of the burger, what happened? It wasnt like that before!
The Pub was really nice, I liked of the hamburger! The staff was nice, good place to drink and eat! I liked of the link between the hostel and the Pub
Bedroom is good for sleeping, you can use lockers for your backpack. However the washroom is too small. There were four showers which is fine but only two toilets. And basins are only on toilets so I had to wait for the toilet even if I only wanted to brush my teeth.
Great hostel. Its really well organized. People are kind and there is a really nice bar 24h
We had such a fantastic experience at the hostel and the pub. The staff were phenomenal and made our experience in London super memorable. Left our luggage there earlier and then checked in at 2 which was an easy process. The beds were comfortable and I felt safe leaving my personal items in the lockers. The showers and washrooms were good too. If you’re looking for a good hostel to stay in this is it! Special call out to Corey, Victor, Emily, Pablo and Deandre!
The most friendly customer service I have received in any establishment, Victor was a star and went beyond to make you feel welcome so we will return, thank you
Cozy pub, with good music. You can use their tables to play boardgames.
Best burger!!! I cant imagine i will eat that in a pub... amazing 🔝
Class pu with decent array of beers and the staff are exactly what you want . Emily was especially welcoming . The hostel is decent too, I recommend trying to get detachable curtains for the beds then it will be perfect.
Quality beer and some really great burger options. Planning to visit again
Solid little hostel near Waterloo and Victoria stations. Budget rooms, good food, friendly staff, rooms are a bit cramped but good value for money, walkable to useful bus and tube stops, would recommend.
Very nice place for a lunch meeting. The atmosphere was really nice and although not overly busy, still had a good vibe.We ordered the burgers and they were cooked fresh to order. Both delicious juicy and very good value at £10 each. There is a good mix of people and would imagine its a great venue for an evening out too. I will be back to see how it is for sure. Its really nice to find a busy pub just off of the beaten track!
Good drink, good atmosphere for a quiet night. Type of joint where if you had a few in, the melodies would be changed into the next burugh. Got a few mates? Love the tunes? Fire on.
We were here on a Wednesday for the pub quiz. Had a fantastic time and their burgers were amazing.
Back at the Steam Engine and a nice selection of beers on tap. The Jupa is a nice refreshing addition.
Slept here for 2 nights. Booked The Sleepover package in a 12 person shared room. First night there were loud Indian guys keeping us awake, the second night we slept wonderfully. The washing room facilities are ok. Theyre rather modern, but the cleansiness could be better. O, and the showers only have cold water. The employees on the first day where very friendly, however the second and third day there were different people which was rather blunt. The Sleepover package is also kind of a rip off; the site says breakfast and a free drink is included. However, the lady on our 3rd day refused to give us the free drink as "it was a mistake on the site" and they "didnt do that since years anymore" according to her. And the included breakfast? You could only choose a small prepacked yoghurt or a prepackaged wrap with or without meat, which were stored in some cardboard box that was stuffed away in some corner. After all, it was ok... for the price. Just some staff thats a bit friendlier and hospitable, and a clean and warm shower almost wouldnt cost anything, yet would the experience só much better.
Been here a few times and was not bad for drinks. Came tonight, a Wednesday and beciase we was not entering into the quiz we was forced off our table and told to stand at the bar to make way for people who was doing the quiz night. The table was not reserved,Never coming back. Horrible bar staff only want the most paying customers and they give discount to NHS workers but clearly we are not worthy
Stayed here for a few days during our stay in London. Love - Love - Love this location! First and foremost, if you want a private room, this is not the place for you. There were ~40 bunks in our dorm style room, arranged in stacks of 3. There were lockers available in the room to secure valuables, but we were just fine leaving our clothes, etc... on our beds. No issues. Check-in available at all times with towels, locks, and all of the other essentials available to purchase. The menu changes depending on the hours, but there is always something available to eat from the kitchen. I enjoyed the ugly wings and a burger, both of which were phenomenal. In fact, I would argue that this place served one of the best burgers I have ever enjoyed. Highly recommend all around - We had a fantastic experience here!
Stayed three nights in the summer, traveling alone.Pros:- Good location close to a lot of tourist sights with plenty of bars and convenience stores all nearby.- Somebody from staff was always around and quick to get things done.Cons:- Not clean, dorms and bathroom always had trash lying around.- Very limited bathroom facilities, especially for as many people as are lodging.- Could be quite noisy at nights coming from the streets. All in all, definition of average. If you’re like me and don’t spend much time in the hostel when visiting a place then it’s fine.
Probably good when it opened but, now showing signs of lack of maintenance. Some showers not working, door locks as well etc. Guy with long hair behind the bar too interested in his girlfriend who was sitting at the bar all night rather than collecting glasses, or working in general.Megan seemed to be doing all the work. The night guy is very good, cares about what hes doing.
Great atmosphere, brilliant pub quiz and absolutely amazing food!
I really liked this hostel, I arrived late at night and I checked in with no hassle. Their bunk beds are quite private, have big lockers inside the rooms (bring your padlockand the staff were exceptional. They kept my bag safe for the day I checked out. I didn’t have breakfast there but I saw it and it looked very decent. Great location, comfy and clean hostel. Just the matress made a squeaky sound every time I moved, perhaps putting and extra blanket would reduce the noise. Many thanks for hosting me 😊
Amazing location, near the most important areas of central London. The prices at the pub itself were way too expensive. No AC and during the summer is impossible to sleep in there with just a fan
The burgers are amazing. My personal recommendation is the veggie burger, yes even if your a carnivore! The ugly nuggets is also a good option if you fancy a change.I would recommend asking for a plate though as the burgers can be quite messy to eat😸
We found The Steam Engine after a visit to War Museum- what a find! Two of us had the £6.50 lunch special- Cheeseburger & fries. Two of us had the " Rather Nice Veggie" burger. The veggie burger was so tasty and super filling (although we did share a portion of chips). If you have a huge appetite then the Lunch special Cheeseburger maybe wouldnt fill you up but we found it more than enough and very tasty. The guy who was working when visited (lunch time 11th Julywas so very pleasant , polite and helpful. We will definitely visit again when in the area.
Great little hostel above a pub convenient for Waterloo Station. Food available if you like burgers. Nice staff, great value
Very nice place! Best place to meet new people!Well maintained rooms and also the bathrooms are super clean.I felt, the breakfast was too minimal and could have been better! The lock for the locker was 4pounds and could have been given to us as an amenity!
Great location for a tourist. Staff were excellent. Accommodation was quite cramped, but more than adequate. Hot showers were great. A hamburger kitchen inside provided food if required. Happy hour 12 - 3 for 1/2 priced beers.
Such a cute pub on the bottom floor, very secure accommodation, you need to tap ur card multiple times on ur way to get to ur room, storage lockers for your stuff in the room + they have free bag storage in the pub for you, huge bathroom with 3 showers on our floor. The literal only downside was theres no AC and it was sooo hot because of the heat wave but not their fault haha
Rooms were a bit cramped but you get what you pay. It was clean and staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating
THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!My wife and I made a reservation for two days. BUT, when we arrive at the hostel, they said that their system made a mistake and us reservation was in a female room.THEY made a mistake and did nothing to solve it.The staff (3 different people who we spoke withonly told us that they couldn’t do nothing about it and we must search for another place to stay.Summarizing, we had to booking another place to stay, far more distance from the centre city and much more expensive! We had to spend much more money that we were planing to. Besides for the stressful situation and for the time we spent searching for another place and not enjoying the city.

Nice place to grab a drink and spend time with your friends or colleagues. They also have a hostel on the 1st floor and its very affordable for tourist visitors. I would recommend the place if you are planning to visit or stay in London for a couple of days.
Easy hostel and a lovely pub the staff were welcoming, enjoyed my stay and would go back again. Very reasonable for the price
First time since school I stayed in a dorm. Wow, so cheap and got 8 hours and low good sleep score on Fitbit, so cant be bad!
Very good and kind receltionists. Perfect location for travelling. Affordable prices. Walls have low heat and noise isolation. Poor hygiene bathrooms.
The One Star review is because we have a large bed reservation and give to us two single beds. We have an email confirmation from zenhotel that it was a large bed, so we made the claim to zenhotel and steam engine with no solution. We have 2 more nights and we have to sleep in 2 single beds...The Place - Good:- Location - Near subway station and 10 minutes walking of center.- Funny Pub and HostelBad:- Bathroom are mixed- No courtains in bed
This place is having a bar and accomodation facility. The accommodation is affordable..In the expensive city London, its a blessing for accommodation. But toilets and washrooms are less than required. 2 toilets and 4 shower facilities for 4 rooms with more than 40 person accomodating capacity. The bar is quite good with good quality spirits. Its having a good. Ambience to flush out your work pressure, tension etc
Excellent hostel accommodation close to London centre. Rooms excellent and clean. Staff very friendly and go out of their way to do anything. Cant recommend enough and will be returning shortly 10/10
As far as backpackers hostels go this was nice and comfortable. And so cheap, perfect for solo trips.or a pair of outdoors adventurers.32 for Saturday and Sunday in Waterloo, London.
A great hostel of the PubLove chain, very good location and affordable prices for the hostel. The rooms are clean and cleaned daily. The pub have a good selection of drinks and coffee & tea. Have to try their tasty burgers. If something can be mentioned as a con it would be the toilets need more attention to tiding up especially at morning.
Wow! Unexpected find on our way back from the Imperial War Museum. We wanted a quick bite & beer and stopped off at The Steam Engine after checking out their burger menu. We had the Cheesus Christ & the Hot and Dirty… both were absolutely fantastic, legit great burgers. Nice beef, soft bun, and they cooked them to a perfect medium at our request.Staff were very friendly & nice… couldn’t ask for any more really. If you are in the area, give this pub a try. They prepare a great burger and the prices are reasonable with friendly service.Side note: we really wanted to try their Christmas Pudding burger but we were a little late in the year and they had stopped serving it. Big points for originality on the concept though!
Nice place, not busy, good choice of beers. Reasonably priced and the staff were friendly and efficient. Food looked good although we didnt eat. Another little boozer worth a visit.
Great place, we had the double room which was a good sized room with its own bathroom/wet room. Shower was very powerful and hot.Food was very nice had burger and fries and a pizza.Breakfast was good, had the breakfast wrap and the yogurt pot, coffee and tea both nice.It is staffed day and night and you can get food and drink at time, which I was very gratefull of especially at 5am.Nice place, great staff who are very friendly and helpful, lovely stay, would use again.
Pub itself is a great locations, great vibe, beer choices and food. Hostel bit like a different world. Beds are alright, lockers too small for true backpackers. Showers aweful as there was fungus growing all over the ceiling.
