Prizren, Puke
Prizren Fortress - Fortress in Puke, Albania
It is not far from Prizren centre and is not too arduous a climb. It is free to enter and has great views. Be careful of rotten wooden walkways. I didnt see a donation box. I think a little support could help preserve and protect this site.
Fortress ruins with great views over Prizren - well worth the climb!
Theres not much here apart from the ruins and a few interpretation boards. The museum was closed both days I visited (mid September 2022). But the views of the city are spectacular and well worth the steep climb! There is no official signposting of the route, just a couple of small "Kalaja" signs which start behind the Sinan Pasha mosque.
A gorgeous fort, with an exceptional view of Prizren. All for free! Bonus: the friendliest 🐕 tour guide in Prizren awaits you.
Its a fantastic and incredible place to be visited and an old castle of ancient history that is an identity for the Albanian cultural heritage!!
To get there is one heck of a climb. While arebically challenging, it is well worth the 30 minutes or so to get there. Longer if you need to rest and am guessing the grade for the first half to be about a 40% tilt. The history contained at the top has has some modern touches such as electrical and plumbing conduits installed and that takes away some of the third century feel seeing modern touches added directly through thr ancient walls and outsides. The views are breathtaking to say the least. The view of Prizren and the surrounding area is something you will not forget. Well worth your time to visit.
Amazing and beautiful natural place, climbing is bit problematic for families who has to curry stuff with themselves as on the top of the hill is no restaurant or cafe to set and rest, better time to visit is early morning or evening as the noon time is extrem hot weather. One of my favourite visits place in Kosovo .
Best place to visit Prizern, the view is prefect
Ascend the hill for stunning views of Prizren on one side and soaring mountains on the other.
Wonderful place to see all Prizren from above and enjoy the sunset.
Beautiful place! Just a 10-15 minute walk and is free of charge with gorgeous views of the city below. There is also a guy selling drinks st the top.
A must visit for tourists and locals.1the location overlooks the city and the forest2the location is difficult to get to due to the steep uphill walk. Yet it’s not impossible if the sun wasn’t hot.3beautiful views and buildings from within the walls4it has access to hiking paths within the forestHighly recommended
The fortress overlooks the city of Prizren, giving you wonderful panorama and photo opportunities. The walk is quite steep, takes approximately 20 mins from the river. On the way you will pass small grocery store, another food/drinks/ice cream vendor is available directly in the fortress. The entrance is free. On the site you can enter several ruins of various buildings, walk around through wooden paths. Every now and then there are multiligual info plates available, describing particular ruins. But the most important part is the view from there, really breathtaking! Dont hesitate, go there, its really worth it!
Nothing special but it has really nice view and also its for free. Approximately 15min climbing but its quite steep.
A really nice fortress. A great tourist attraction and also a museum. On top of that you have a great view of the city of Prizren
A bit confusing to get there as there are no signs, but its free to enter and the views from above are great. There is also a nice walking trail with a river flowing on the side to lead you back down.
Awesome view. It takes a lot of uphill walking but once up on the fortress it is worth it.
Amazing place with an awesome view of Prizren and free access ✅😀
It’s the number one tourist attraction in Prizren for a reason. The fort is in great condition considering it’s age and the views are magnificent.
Highly recommend to visit when you are in town. It takes only 15 minutes to reach the point and the most surprising thing is that it’s free!!!! No ticket required.I stayed in Prizren for 3 nights and I went every day. It’s just so nice and calm to just sit on the castle and look the city from the top.It reminds me of the castle in Naples, Italy. Definitely one of the best sunset in the world!
Beautiful views. Was surprised to see that its free to visit
A steep, but challenging hike. Warning: Not wheelchair friendly as the path is gravely and uneven. In good condition and has the best views of the city. Some nice places to sit and have a snack too
Its a breathtaking place where you can see the whole city from up! High recommended!
In this castle 🏰 all by myself was the greatest meditation Ive experienced in awhile. The mixture of original and reconstruction is phenomenal. The plaques allow the understanding of the fortress, history and the evolution.
Beautiful place. Definitely worth the trip!
Amazing view of the whole city. It’s a tad difficult to walk up there but it’s worth it. Also there aren’t any cafes nor shops so I would recommend you to bring your own water.
very nice castle, looks like its been renovated recently, you have to walk up a long bath to reach it, I recommend renting an ATV for 5 eur to get up there, but its worth it.
Free entrance. Fantastic views. Back gate open 24/7. Front gate open from 7am.
It is place worth hiking from city center. Obviously does not show how was in the past but what is now gives overview of past size and power of this place. Clean and well prepared for tourists.
It is a steep road to the fortress but it’s worth to take it. Once at the fortress you are rewarded within great views of the city of Prizren and beautiful landscapes. Inside it is been nicely prepared for visitors so you can access most of the fortified walls.
I knew Prizren was beautiful, but I didnt imagine this. The city is beautiful and full of atmosphere, but from the first minute anyone who arrives in Prizren knows that there is only one goal: to go up to the fortress. There are 2 ways to do it, one is going up the short and steep road, the other is going around the mountain and the fortress itself, coming from behind, I did this. After about 10km of bike I was exhausted, but the view during the ride had already satisfied me, however once I reached the top with the sunset on my face I had no doubts: the whole 2019 tour had made sense, another time.I think the images say it all.
Amazing. If you go anywhere in prizren this is it. 15 min walk, slightly steep, free entry, and you see the most besutiful panoramic view of this city. Theres also some nice snippers of info on boards along the way.Highly recommend. We spent an hour walking around exploring tunnels and all.Theres also a wlaking track behind this which you can take that loops around all the way back along the side of the river you can see on google.
Love the hiking and the view from above is amazing you can see Prizren city and also the sunset is breathtaking. Thank you Prizren for the beautiful memories
My visit too Prizren Fortress in Kosovo with Arben. The hike to the top was amazing. The view was breath taking, you could see the whole city and more. If you come to Kosovo must visit.
En. - Prizren was founded in the 11th century on the ruins of ancient Theranda, first mentioned in 1019 at the time of Basil II (976–1025 A.D.in the form of Prizdrijana. In 1072, Serbian ruler Constantine Bodin (r. 1081–1101was declared "Emperor of the Bulgarians" in Prizren during the large Slavic uprising against the Byzantine Empire. The Prizren square and its stronghold developed the Via de Zenta trade route which passed through the Drin valley and connected the Adriatic Sea with the interior of the Balkan Peninsula. Prizren served as the first Serbian imperial capital for which it is called the City of the Emperor or Serbian Tsarigrad.
Nice hike to the fortress and a great view of the city. Worth the hike.
Archaeologists show that people were living here back around 1100 BC, but it started to develop in 4th-6th century AD.With a few signs in english, the main reason people decide to climb up is the views overlooking the city.If you have the time, there is a 1.5 hour walk along the river (shown on google mapsthatll take you to the fortress as well.
A fairly steep route leading to the fortress. But the spectacular view definitely justifies the 10-minute exhausting walk.
Best view of Prizren. Take a short 20 min walk from the city center. Or a beautiful 1.5 hour walk along the river then around the back to enjoy all the nature surrounding the fortress and friendly locals.
The fortress is nice enough but it is the view of the beautiful town of Prizren, which is the real reason for going up the hill. It is not a particularly difficult walk up there probably 15-20 minutes from downtown. It is truly one of the best views I have ever seen.
Beautiful place. Theres not much guidance or structure - you can basically climb anywhere. Theres some unstable ramps and loose rusty nails so Id caution against children playing unattended.
The castle is easily accessible and has a fine position with great a view. The information signs lack detailed information but make up in quantity. Some guy came came and locked the gate while it was getting dark. Only option to get out was climbing down the walls, and so we did. Not a bad experience after all.
Great place to visit! Hope you are in shape the walk up the hill is a trek!
Beautiful views of mountains and great atmosphere. Probably best to visit under fall or spring. I can only imagine how crazy hot it will be during summer.
Walking up there is INTENSELY uphill but the view was worth it. Especially great if you can time a visit to the top with the call for prayers from the mosques below.
The view from the fortress is fantastic but the same is not well maintained. There are lots of plastic bottles and packs inside and outside the fortress.
If the decent amount of remains werent enough to interest you to climb to the top, then the views certainly should be. Simply stunning!!
One of the uncountable amazing attractions of the lovely Kosovo! The climb is tough, but worth every inch of it. Once in Kosovo, don’t hesitate to drop by Prizren and visit its fortress. And don’t be surprised if a local dog walks you from the bottom of the hill to the summit! Yep, I had a local “doguide”.
Very nice views, steep climb. Look for signs saying Kalaja. Very popular during sunset. The signs explaining the history were quite basic. But very well preserved.
Loved it. The climb to the top was a bit difficult, it took us around 15 mins to get to the top but was totally worth it! Nobody is selling water on the way up do make sure u bring ur own water. This place is a must seen if u r in Prizren.
