1840 Army Trail Rd, Hanover Park, IL 60133, United States, West Chicago
Low-key cafeteria setup for Southern-style comfort food, including fried chicken & mac ’n’ cheese.
Please check your food before you leave. I ordered an extra side got home and realized it wasn’t in the bag. Wast of $4.99.. long wait times too.
Food was fantastic. I ordered fried fish, yams, turkey greens and cornbread. My daughter had beef ribs, Mac & cheese and turkey greens. Friendly staff and fair sitting area. Has fountain machine for dine in refills.
After Sunday worship, we often go to Priscillas for takeout dinner. It is always fantastic!
*5th Visit* Best Soul Food Ive Had in The NW Burbs. The Menu Options are "Day Specific". My Friday & Saturday Picks: Catfish, Collard Greens w/ Turkey (or Pork), Mac & Cheese, comes w/ a Corn Bread Muffin. *Decent Portion Size. *TIP: GO AT LEAST 30 MINS B4 CLOSING* (Open Wed to Sun). They Will Sell Out! My Food was FRESH with Tons of Flavor! They have a VERY Steady Flow of Customers. They DO NOT Take Phone Orders! *FAST Service* They Have Desserts Too.
Everything was So good 👍🏾 Food was very good and seasoned just right. The service including the owner herself were very friendly. Will be back again😁
Really good food, plenty of it, friendly staff and customers.
No help, the buffet line is backwards, people were getting confused. Walked out.
Fantastic food and great price cant beat
Ive been coming here for years and food tastes great: catfish, pork greens, candied yams. But theyve changed recently. Got home with my order and there was no hot sauce. The hot sauce is a must to enjoy the meal! Very dissappointed! Portions are smaller and price has gone up. Paid $20!! Its not worth that price and drive there anymore.
Good old fashioned southern food. Rotating daily menu is nice for a variety. The catfish was excellent.
The food here is amazing friendly workers. The tables could be cleaner that’s the only down side other then that B+
Fried chicken is so good, crispy, and not greasy. The hot sauce is killer too
Great soul food. Menu changes daily so I will definitely be visit again. All of the dishes come with two sides and there is plenty to share! The only downside was the dessert, I tried the lemon cake, it was dry and didnt have much flavor.
Food is good but I actually hate the time frame in which you guys open and close. Need to close at a later time LOL 😅😂
Priscillas food is okay. Our food was cold the greens had no taste and the portion size has really gotten small. I wouldnt come back for the price, its to high for the amount of food given. You shouldnt increase the price and decrease the portion size. Its like I went to the taste of Chicago.
The food is delicious. However, the wait time is just too long (20 minutes to over 1 hour).
A good restaurant but the owner needs more help. Its Sunday and 20 people in line and its two people working. They are nice but completely overwhelmed. Wait is over an hour and half thats ridiculous. People are walking out If this continues they want be around.
Great service and air conditioning. Amazing food. Cannot wait to go back!
The food, and desserts, are ALWAYS delicious! I have NEVER had a problem with my order either location that I’ve visited (Hanover Park and, Hillsideuntil last Sunday. I got home and noticed that the two extra sizes that I’d ordered were not in the bag, nor in their respective meal containers. I immediately called the restaurant and left a voicemail message. I figured I wouldn’t hear from someone until Monday, but then Tuesday came and went, so I called on Wednesday. I was told that the manager was not in, and to call back in an hour. I called back and didn’t get an answer. Called Friday, and didn’t get an answer and we’re back to Sunday and the voicemail is too full to leave a message. I simply want a refund for the sides, or to receive them the next time that we come. Unfortunately, it seems that there’s no desire to resolve the issue. Which is disappointing, to say the least. My only option is to dispute the charge with my credit card company.
Oh boy... where even to begin?! Priscillas was so. effing. good. I got fried chicken with Mac n cheese and turkey greens and it was fantastic. My husband felt like he was finally home lol. We will definitely be back!! 10/10!
The "certain day" menu was interesting. But the food we did get was AMAZING ❤️! Will study the menu better so Ill know what days to go. THANKS!
Very long wait before our order was taken. The food is definitely overpriced and overrated. The chicken used to make the fried chicken was very old. Weve had much better fried chicken elsewhere. We do NOT recommend this place, needs better management and could use a lot of improvement.
People please check your food after you get it from this restaurant. My collard greens had a long piece of hard plastic in it. Please be careful before you eat the food.
Priscillas food is good but they have fell off over the years. They prices keep increasing but the amount of food you get in your container decreases. I ordered the fried chicken dinner with an extra Side it was like $19. They give you one little scoop of dressing, and Mac n cheese thats not enough to feed my 6 year old. Then I asked for some hot sauce for my chicken one of the ladies behind the counter gave me this cup with barely nothing in it. What am I supposed to do with this, this good for one piece of chicken not 3. She could of at least filled the cup up. Please Priscillas do better the food is good but not that good to be spending all that money on nothing.
If we have a craving for soul food, this is the place to be. Fried catfish and fried chicken were both seasoned and cooked well. Love the Mac and cheese.
I have been wanting to try Pircilla’s for quiet some time now and I finally got to. It was everything I thought it would be and more. The food here is excellent, it has that homemade look and taste to it. I got the fried chicken meal with red beans and rice and the Mac and cheese. It was all delicious. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy fall off the bone on the inside. This is a must try and I will be bringing my family back to try.
We ordered 4 dinners, fish, oxtails, ribs and fried chicken, all the meats were SALTY, the greens, Mac &cheese, and string beans tasted plain, missing season and the spaghetti was sweet 🥴. They should have used some of that salt they put on the meat for the side. The beans were good and that’s about it. I will not be visiting here again. O and them oxtails had way too much fat on it, more fat than meat.
I am really disappointed, I ordered baked chicken, it was bland and dry. And it was still red inside. If its going to be dry at least it should be cooked all the way through. The corn was weird and had green peppers and was super sweet. Sugar was definitely added. The turkey greens were horrible and bland. The candied yams were good. The cornbread was dry. I tried to give them another chance because I stopped buying food here for awhile. I dont understand how they are still in business.
I will start out saying We travelled a distance....The turkey was tender .... Shrimp was excellent...The issue is the crushed pepper seasoning that was put on several things , greens , ham hocks , black eye peas it was too overwhelming to the point we couldn’t enjoy those items & we brought several meals...Please lay off of that crushed pepper seasoning as everybody do not like it maybe offer it with the other condiments you do offer !I didn’t want to rate this a 2 or 3 because the other items was excellent !
So disappointed. After waiting 20 minutes for two pieces of chicken it tasted old dry and unseasoned. The breast was smaller than the wing. Seriously. Really disappointed. What’s going on there? And it was 6.50 for old dry chicken. Really??
Its no for me! Im a southern girl, so maybe Im biased. The turkey was tender, but the gravy was bland. We passed it on to the dogs.Turkey greens were disappointing and only saved by the cornbread which now that I think about it was pretty good.Mac and cheese, not impressed. What is the okra concoction? Stew?I assumed it was fried okra when I order online , total joke. It went to the trash. We like the fried chicken and dressing so two stars. Almost forgot about the weak peach cobbler.Going forward, Ill stop being lazy when I want soul food and make it myself.
Priscilla’s has been a favorite of my family and I since it debuted in the Northwest suburbs and has extended to the Hanover Park location. However over the past six months, the price has increased (understandablebut the quality and taste of the food has slipped. I ordered three dinners yesterday and my family agreed it was not good. The collard greens were bitter, the mac n cheese dry, chicken overcooked and pieces of fat in the black eyed peas. I am not sure if it’s new cooks or what but as a die hard supporter, I will now have to think twice before patronizing and especially with the increased prices. And I won’t mention the incorrect orders and forgotten sides.
The service was quick. I did not have to wait no more than five minutes. The staff was friendly but professional. The food was excellent. So homemade and fresh! Taste like home! 😋😋
Priscilla’s is very delicious for me and my family! I have been going here as long as I can remember. Food is lovely, although has declined in quality slightly. I highly recommend Priscillas as a great Soul Food restaurant l.
I have been going to Precillas since she opened her Restaurant in Hanover Park.I have Always been Satisfied with All the Food & Deserts that was Served.Today I ordered the Large Gumbo which did not have Shrimps added. I returned the Gumbo and received my money back.
I have been going to Pricillas off and on for years. It has been a Family staple, and I wouldnt change anything. Still the best soul food around. 😋 Im more use to the Hillside location, but Im glad to see the recipes and food have not changed. Masks are required here, but takeout delivery and dine in are still options.
Soooo good!!!! I went to this one twice this month the macaroni is PERFECT. Fish was not over seasoned or greasy & dressing was super good. Had a slight sweet flavor. I’m so glad it’s closer to where I live. Went to the Hillside location last year, unfortunately it was disappointing compared to years ago. I will be coming to this location more often! German chocolate cake was great also.
My food was good, but I paid for a Cilla-sized meal, got home and was missing a side and no extra gravy on the ribs. We were out shopping so by the time I got home they were closed and will be until Wednesday. SMH. If Im paying 20+ dollars for a meal, Id like to go home with what I paid for. This was Grandmothers (ourfavorite place.
Priscilla has very good food. I moved closer and the meals are still delicious. When you dont feel like cooking this is where you come to get a good meal.
I was super disappointed cause I came here from Rockford and the food wasnt good like when Priscilla is there to cook. This place has fell off. Maybe they are tired or just getting sloppy but it isnt the same and I paid a pretty penny (its priceyfor my food. I paid too much to have hard ends on my fish so I couldnt eat it all. Not about to break no teeth. I wanted some soul food but Ill just cook at home from now on. My meal came out to 20 whole dollars. So upset still. Plus nobody in the place was African American . How Sway???? Lol
The food is ok. Ive been there a couple of times. During my last visit I left without ordering because the older white woman had her mask covering only her chin. The mask needs to cover your nose and mouth otherwise why have it on. She was also constantly talking while fixing orders, pretty much spitting in folks foods. Again food is just ok, not worth catching anything though.
We were excited to get take-out from Priscillas, and get some "homestyle" food instead of cooking dinner. Unfortunately, we were overall disappointed. First, the good: several of the sides were delicious, including the candy yams and the green beans. However, both the baked chicken, and the smothered chicken were dry. For as much chicken that was on the menu, youd expect they have it down to perfection. Also, they were out of bread pudding, so we swapped last minute for lemon cake, and were disappointed with what tasted like artificial lemon. For the $35 spent on dinner, Id recommend other options.
Food is generally really good. Greens tend to be a little too stemy but theyre ok. Ordering ahead will save you a lot of time. Definitely an exercise in patience going up there but the food generally is worth it. The smothered pork chops and beef ribs are top faves.
The food always tastes different. They cook the same thing every day, so why is the taste different? Too many stem in the greens. Fake carmel cake. The prices are too high. $8.00 dollars for two pieces of fish, no bread or fries. At at j&j you get bread and fries. Cake too high 4.95.and it doesnt taste good. I use go all the time. Im not coming back ever again.
I got the smothered pork chop dinner and it was amazing! The chops were so tender that I just cut thru them with a plastic fork. My sides were mashed potatoes with gravy and collard greens with turkey and they were so good.
I waited 20 minutes for chicken. After 20 minutes of waiting they decide to say no more chicken. Now the Caucasian lady at the counter has the worst attitude. She refuse to work with us with our meal. If a customer waits for specific food item and you run out, keep the customer happy. The food tends to be good but the employees are overly rude. It’s Thursday at 5pm and they ran out of Chicken Wings. The Hispanic manager was the worst with customer service also.
Large portions, authentic soul food. Will return😄
Im glad we ignored negative reviews! Very busy, friendly staff & food so delicious I already want to return soon! Loved the friendly multi-cultural environment!
My first visit ever visit.....Overall the savory food was good. Well seasoned, cooked right, and traveled well until I got home.Savory - We had fried chicken and catfish both tasty. Sides mac and cheese, green beans, yams all great. Side of greens was not good.Desserts- Sweet potato pound cake was delicious. Sweet potato pie and peach cobbler where awful. The pie had this strange aftertaste and the cobbler was mushy with no flavor. The issues arent enough to make me not go back. We will just try other sides and stick with the cake for dessert. Not everything is great on every menu. Next I want to try the smothered chicken. I would like to get the baked chicken but they wrap it in plastic and we dont use plastic wrap.Staff are very nice and the location is clean with plenty of parking.
Priscillas is the best soulfood in the Chicago area. The staff is usually good & this location is not as crowded as the Hillside location so there is never a wait here.
