Real ale and pub grub in ornate Victorian bar with tiling, oak furnishings and etched glass panels.
Amazing venue with traditional interiors and comfortable seating upstairs. Almost no place to sit downstairs but lovely vibe. Prices were moderate.
We waited at the bar for over 25 min without being served, waiters promised us twice to be back in a few minutes … after 25 min we had enough and left. Understaffed and absolutely not worth it.
Beautiful pub with good local beer
Authentic, original and stunning London pub. Service in the back area charming enough but a bit slow. Nevertheless enjoy your pint....
Great ambiance, good selection of drinks however they dont serve food
Cool old style pub with wooden booths right up on the bar. Staff were friendly on both occasions visiting.
Classic pub, almost 15 years since my last session there. Great to see it still thriving
Beautiful old pub which has presumably kept its style over many years. It is well maintained and serves a good selection of drinks.
£10.20 for a pint and a wine in Central London, set in an ornate Victorian pub. Bravo
Id forgotten what a brilliant place this is. Spectacular original interior full on Edwardian glamour with tiles and etched windows and curious booths to access the bar. Good selection of beers, great location. Worth a visit.
I was here with a friend who works nearby and who said its her favourite pub in the area. I can see why.Good beer, friendly service and a traditional pub environment. As well as the main bar area there are side rooms with a single table where you can have a quiet natter with friends, which is what we did. These can even be bookedHey, its central London so a pint is £6.50.
What makes this pub unique is their Victorian decor, absolutely beautiful. It has 2 stories, we sat on the ground floor for drinks (the booth was intimatethen dined upstairs in the dining area. We opted for a few pub classics to share, such as steak and ale (Tender prime slow cooked beef steak, shallots, and gravy. So good.Whitby scampi, and finished with Sticky toffee pudding (yum). Everything was good and beyond my expectations. It is certainly a good spot to come after visiting the British museum in London. Its only a 5 min walk from the museum, also very close to the metro/tube too. You cant miss the spot. Worth visiting!
Sam Smiths boozer so always a good point of taddy lager. Great decor being a traditional pub setting with a few cubicles or separated areas, quirky worth a visit
Iconic British pub with great drinks, great service and air conditioning! Very important on this 90+ degree day. Thanks for showing this American tourist a great time!
Great pub, poor service. Its not the first time I have been here recently and have received a poor service. They never seen to be able to field more than one bar tender or serve a full selection of ales.Having been drinking here on and off for twenty years and mostly recieving a great service, the management now really need to get the priorities in order
The price aint nice but the barstaff more than make up for it, shout out to Matt the niccen for making our night more than special, will definitely be coming back!
Good boozer, proper Tady larger 5.10 a pint. Pub is still in victorian style which creates a lovely ambience
Great style and presence. Loved this pub forever. Some of the photos presented to me on this site are not of the pub
Pricey for what drinks they serve, but the place does look very pretty! Unfortunately the poor guy was on his own, and I didnt get served for a long time. Go there if you can get a booth for drinks and theres more than 1 person serving!
Very nice pub. Good service. Clean, classic decor and great beer.
Don’t miss this beautiful pub. Great prices on beers. Stop in for a pint in one of the private glass booths.
This is a seventeenth-century pub, really particular, if you want Impreza someone with a nice pub this is what you are looking for, do not forget to Go to the toilet downstairs they are original, the food is not really fantastic, but acceptable always ask first and look some pictures of the food that you are ordering. They specialized in samuel jack beer, I really suggested to have a look.
We came just before they stopped serving the food, before we got the food we were told that in 15 min the restaurant floor will be closed. Once food arrived the bread had mold on it (wish I had a picplate was taken to the kitchen and chef said its not mold but tatar sauce, it was not. Beer was good tho.
Decent waiting times and seating arrangements. There were limited options on wine and sprite but we had a good time. It gets crowded during peak hours and the place could be cleaned more frequently
Nice old fashioned pub but.... the size of my steak and ale pie was for a 7 year old one. Cheeky to keep prices flat but half the portion of the food.
Beutiful and unique with its decorated walls, ceilings and separate room by the bar. Upstairs dining room that is much simpler in its decoration.
Fantastic atmospheric Victorian pub. Love the separate areas and cut glass windows
The best pub in Holborn.Totally unique with great brews from Yorkshire.Great for groups large or small.
The pub itself is absolutely beautiful, with great little private booth areas attached to the bar itself (although that does impact seating capacity). However the staff on our particular visit were not very friendly and took a lot of effort to get her attention for drinks. Maybe they were having a bad evening, not sure. Otherwise nice pub.
One of tyw classic London pubs which retains it original fitments with amazing wood and glass panels. There are separate snugs around the bar which will hold a small group of people, maybe 6 or 8 and then a larger area at the back. This is not a free house so youll be limited to Samuel Smiths range, not a problem jst a note that some of the drinks you might normally expect might not be available but this is kit your normal pub.
A great little Sam Smiths pub. The decor is lush and if you can get one of the booths by the bar it feels very fancy. The bottled apricot beer is a dream! (But is also a bit pricy)
Absolutely brilliant. There were even real coal fires. Samuel Smith beers and lagers. Eating only upstairs so ground floor for serious conversation and drinking! The interiors are ravishing. One of the top pubs in London. Went Tuesday lunchtime and very quiet.
Outstanding boozer. Ornate, opulent and with an unaltered interior.Sam Smiths beers make for a reasonable priced pint which is very rare in this area of London.
This is a very beautiful pub in a convenient location. The bar is in the centre and the drinking areas are separated by beautiful screens. There are seldom any free seats and the drink selection is the standard Sam Smiths offering. Its worth stopping in here for one drink to admire the room.
Unique Sam Smiths pub. If youre not familiar with the place, you could end up in the wrong bar and have no idea what you can order. The layout is nothing like Ive ever seen.Quiet on my visit although there were a few people in the larger bar at the rear on the left hand side.Sam Smiths used to be renowned for having the cheapest pints in London but not sure if this is any longer the case.Still gets 5 stars from me however.
Fantastic Sam Smiths pub in Holborn. Very busy on a Friday night, so we initially sat near a really warm radiator, but then managed to get a really cosy booth right by the bar. The decor is amazing with wood panelling, etched glass panels and Victorian style tiles. The service was great. More reasonable prices than other places in London. Nice strong Imperial stout. Would absolutely recommend a visit here.
OMG a public house that is original, beautiful architecture, décor and a good selection of drink, mainly Tadcaster ale & Larger.
Easily one of the most beautiful and ornate Victorian pub interiors you will ever experience, has got the Wow factor, the exterior is nothing out of the ordinary which belies the beauty within! As its a Samuel Smith pub the prices are lower than any pubs in the surrounding area. It just may be my personal favourite London boozer. Would give it 10 stars if allowed! Wouldnt normally mention the mens loos but these are properly olde worlde 😀. Great beer choice and very friendly staff. Enjoy . M
Wow, this place is amazing. A must visit if in the area. Great drinks selection & steeped in history.
Nice place, authentic style but to be honest most of the parts of the decor are replacements. Restrooms like in mcdonalds.Beer was great and very attractive price. But so san there is no history about this place, just few words.
An architectural gem with an array of spectacular original Victorian woodwork and ceramics, complemented by beautifully reconstructed wood and glass partitions dividing the pub into a series of cosy bars. The luxurious Gents lavatories downstairs are worth a visit on their own.The overall effect is a great atmosphere ably complemented by a full range of Sam Smiths beers and friendly staff. Overall an excellent pub for a quiet pint and/or an ideal place to bring visitors for a great pub experience.
Another architecturally amazing pub. Samuel Smiths beer but dont let that put you off as its ok.
Lovely place in central London. Very old , incredible ambiented Pub with the finest beer you can get and at affordable price. It doesnt have much place to sit but if you wait a little you can get a good spot to drink. Highly recommended.
Victorian splendour, a stones throw away from Holborn Tube Station. The interior decor is fabulous - partitioned space, fully restored to its former glory. I don’t normally take pictures of urinals - but even they are amazing!I’m not a fan of Samuel Smith beers - personal preference - otherwise would have awarded 5 stars! Although the wheat beer is pretty decent.Don’t be put off by the rather plain exterior - definitely worth a visit!
Busy London ‘Sam Smiths’ Gem of a pub. Time warp back to the 1800’s with the pub sectioned off into multiple cubbies around a central bar, the walls are covered with impressive ceramic tiles, etched mirrors, embossed ceilings, dark wood and solid fuel fires to huddle around. Lovely range of drinks, could drink in here for hours and soak up the ambiance and not get it all. Recommended.
An Amazing beautiful old pub with lots of little corners to get lost in! Often feels like the pub turns into a complicated puzzle of doors and windows preventing your escape. Food is great and wide selection of drinks.
Popped in after reading about London gin palaces. Amazing interior! Beautiful and quirky. Little corridors lead to small seating booths, ornate etched glass, tiles and original features. I didnt eat or drink, but will be back. Ive stayed at The Hoxton multiple times and never knew this gem was next door!
Stopped in this pub for a drink as we had a bit of time to kill before going to the Secret Comedy Club nearby. It’s got the feel of a traditional pub and much of the decor and architecture seems genuinely original.Has a generally nice “feel” to it. Handy for the local nightlife and just around the corner from the Grand Lodge of Freemasons.
This is a very good pub! It is centrally located and near many of Londons sights but at the same time it is not too crowded so its possible to get a drink and a seat. The atmosphere is relaxed. The decor is traditional and there are several booths located around the bar so if you are in a group, with a friend or on your own it works. The beer is good and they also have organic beer for anyone interested in it.
Really easy to get to, just a few minutes from Holborn station. The dining area upstairs is cosy and has great ambience. Best fish and chips I had in London, really crisp batter. Pies are good too, if a little salty. Good selection of drinks. Everything reasonably priced.
