25 de Mayo 279, 11000 Montevideo, Uruguay, Montevideo
Museum featuring pre-Columbian & native archaeological artifacts, plus a gift shop & bookstore.
Aug 2022. Tickets 100 pesos for nationals, 150 pesos for foreigners. We liked the building a lot and seeing school children having a guided tour around which they followed with great interest. One of the few museums with explanations in English and Portuguese as well as Spanish. Short but sweet. Would love to see more artifacts in each room but definitely enjoyed it.
Interesting exhibits but little in English.
Beautiful ! When you get into the Rome room its like traveling in the time. Egypt (realmummy ... You need to go !!!
Vale a visita!
Of the many museums I visited in Uruguay, this one was my favorite.
I really want to support smaller museums but I wanted to see South American native tribal work and art- not Australian or North American. Comparatively the museums for those respective territories and native tribes, they are far superior in Australia or the US, so for me, it just wasnt that interesting. But they did have cool masks. Sorry!
Me encantó.
Peu d objets d art pré colombiens.
Interesting museum, mostly on *American* (not specifically Uruguayanpre-Columbian cultures.Dark spots: the cafe and most exhibits (as of Feb 2020were closed due to renovation. I also missed some depth on local Charrúa and Guaraní people; theres a lot to be said about them and their influence on current Uruguayan culture — just think about the widespread mate culture.Bright spots: it seemed that there was a lot of action going on, I saw many of what seemed to be Anthropology and Archeology grad students working on exhibits, so that was promising.Overall a good experience.
A small museum with a good collection of exhibits and history of the region.Bonus Australian exhibition when we were there to help support the fire fighters in Australia.
This is a museum that had a nice variety of displays. It is not a large museum so would be suitable for families. I would have liked to see more after our struggle to get in:We went on a rainy day. We arrived when it was closed at midday and we told it would open in ten minutes. We waited on the steps with our umbrella and tried again after 15 minutes, but were then told it would be another 20-30 minutes. We went for a walk in the rain and returned to wait still a few more minutes until some staff went past us on the steps, returning from their break half an hour after the posted opening time. Finally we were able to get in!
He ido varias veces y la última me decepcionó.
Not an extensive collection but exposition on Australian art was great
Nice museum with exhibits that illustrate the various indigenous peoples in central and South America. Very manageable. Nice cafe attached where you can relax.
GoodArcheological and phosyl can be found there. It is not well known place as it is located in downtown (old city), not close. It is not promoted well. There is no translation of the pieces you can find into the museumThere is a souvenir place only cash and only in UYU currency.Employees does not speak any different languages than spanish. So take note.Ahh also the explains in Spanish
Interesting, beautiful restored building. Small but very ambitious exhibition.
A sad museum with very small collection
A small but very interesting little museum, takes roughly an hour to visit and quite worth it.
A good selection of artifacts and then extending their influence into modern expression
Very disappointing. I dont think Ive ever given one star to a museum before. The exhibition, if thats the right word, is organised across three floors. But alot of the exhibition spaces are EMPTY, presumably being refurbished. The carnival exhibits there, well go to the "Carnival Museum" instead. Youll see much better there. Also there is almost no English descriptions of the items display.Dont waste U$130 coming here, go to the "Carnival Museum" (near the docksideinstead.
Possui um rico acervo do patrimônio indígena e pré-colombiano. Na segunda-feira a entrada foi grátis. O Musei possui 3 andares e a arquitetura remonta séculos passados. Algumas exposições tinham efeito sonoro, levando refletir o espaço, o acervo...
Nice museum. The fee is U$130.00 each. This is pre Columbian artifacts on two floors. You are allowed to take photos with out a flash. There are lockers for your needs.
Quite interesting but sadly most of the museums rooms are closed for repairs. What was there was nicely displayed.
Very poor exhibition. At least the entrance is free.
Top
Entrada livre.
Good place
Museum is always a way in order not to forget.
Why - 3 stars? Small colection - very interesting about different pre - columbian culture but only in spanish :-(
Nice place and amazing expositions
Very interesting and the building is amazing! Unfortunately part of the museum was closed due to remodeling but it was worth the visit.
Ok place. Not the biggest exhibition
There were a lot of closed rooms and no actually much to see. =/
Interesting works on display present the history of indigenous populations in the area including music instruments. It does feel rather limited, and you could easily take your time with each work on display and still leave in one hour. One of the highlights is definitely the augmented reality display on the underground level. Also interesting for those into architecture.
Pre columbine museum.
