This museum is in the center of Quito and the entrance seemed a bit expensive for what is there. In general, I loved the colonial structure and the rooms are well organized.

Its called museo del Alabado. Amazing pieces and architecture.

They need to add a description to the pieces on this play. It was educational.

One of the most underrated sights in Ecuador, I’ve been to many many huge museums and this a tiny extremely professional, art house museum is packing an incredible array of shockingly extremely sophisticated pre-Columbian ceramic statues for the time - quality that took European ceramics almost 1,000 yrs to equal - and a fascinating insight into the spiritual world view that existed on this continent before the Spanish almost wiped it out.Highly recommended of you also are able to visit an indigenous community and see some of the beliefs in real life too.

Incredible, one of the most beautiful museums Ive been to. Very well laid out and presented with incredible artifacts. The building and presentation are on par with the displayed items. Highly recommended.

A must see cultural site in Quito! And a yummy coffee shop inside

Small museum with interesting exhibitions on pre-Columbian cultures. Not very big and their isnt much content but they are happy to explain you the stories behind the pieces if you ask. Small café in the courtyard for after your tour.

Small museum but very well done. The colonial building was beautiful, the exhibits displayed an impressive collection precolumbian objects, and our guide was fantastic. The temporary exhibit on ancient stamps/seals (selloswas great, with insightful interpretive texts. Would definitely recommend visiting. Bonus: the cafe in the courtyard serves delicious food (and wine)

A guide at another museum recommended this fine spot. Eight displays of Ecuador’s art before Columbus, well displayed, well interpreted, well lit. Well worth my bus time, walk there, and $6 admission.Bonus lunch restaurant in the courtyard.

Half hour guided tour was immersive experience. Docent very knowledgeable and went into depth on 3 main areas of museum: funeral rites, relationship to nature, and art. After tour, free to wander armed with new perspective. Loved it!

A hidden gem. Just the right size for an hour or two visit. Very eloquently presented.

My wife, Lynn, and I spent the morning visiting this fabulous museum. We were greeted by two very friendly and very professional curators, one of whom gave us an excellent tour of the museum. Educationally, we tend to focus on the Incan culture because of its rich history and, of course, Machu Picchu but there were several other advanced cultures in the region per-Colombian and pre-Incan. The coastal cultures—Valdivia, Chorrera, and Jama-Coaque—are the most represented, at this museum, but adding to these are significant pieces from twenty other cultures who populated ancient Ecuador before the arrival of the Incan Empire between 1440 and 1530 AD. This museum is definitely worth a visit. I highly recommend this museum when in Quito.

Really interesting collection with many artifact styles i have not seen before. But its a typical museum of the Latin world in that there is little to no description of what are the artifacts, and the few tags that are present are unreadable. This appears to be a collection of pothunted items with no provenience.

There really is only one museum in Quito you NEED to VISIT, and it is this one! If there was an Oscars for museums, The Casa Museo del Alabado would win it, no doubt.Interesting and entertaining for ALL AGES. If you have small kids they will be curious about all the different artifacts theyll see like animal representations and even water jugs/bottles that makes noise when you pour them (a nifty little thing pre-Columbian peoples made).

Full of precolombian history, is wonderful one of the most complete and well explained museums in Quito, if you want to learn or understand a little bit more abut the precolombian cultures this museum its highly recommended style of the museum and every detail is just impressive.

The love and dedication to make this colonial renewal can be denoted in every detail. It is an architectural sigh for the soul. I loved the guides as they interact with replicas of the Museum and the passion they put into their exhibitions. Really enjoyed it every single minute here. It should be mentioned that this house has a very cozy fig tree in one of its courtyards.

Beautiful! Every piece has its own story and its really a grand experience to be there and see everything that our story has to offer.

A very good museum with well organised exhibitions and interesting information. Definitely recommend it to anyone interested in history, art or culture.I loved this museum. The ceramic water pipes that mimic animal voices are very cool. My other favourite were the ancient ceramic pieces depicting internal organs.

In my opinion, this was absolutely the best museum in Quito. Instead of a concentration on Spanish architecture culture and art, is completely dedicated to pre-Columbian art and culture. Are guide, Sarah, was excellent. her information and stories were the highlight of our day.

An excellent museum. If you find yourself in the Plaza San Francisco, you should go. Its a very nice collection and arranged very well. The museum is set up in a very clever way.

Great museum and staff. You can learn a lot and enjoy the beauty and comparative themes. The price is very good value. The building itself is beautiful and relaxing with good light and courtyards. A must see in Quito. Enjoy the cafe after, its really good and a great price.

Ive been to more museums than I can count and this was absolutely my favorite! Its small, but so beautifully done and the collection is impressive.

There is so much of such fine quality that it is hard to fault this museum housed in a historic building. I would criticise a lack of detail even with the help of a catalogue. What was that long sword-like exhibit? Where did the gold amulets come from ... and what did they represent? Even the manyfold electronic screens failed to help here. A nice cup of coffee in the restaurant was very welcome.

Some of the descriptions of the artifacts are pretty strange and non historical... I wish there were more archaeological evidence and historical descriptions of the artifacts. Its a wonderful museam and is definitely worth seeing. The artifacts are stunning.

We visited three or four museums with similar artifacts,but this one was special because the building itself is so artistic and the staging of the art is spectacular.

A fascinating museum, in the oldest building in Quito, restored in the most elegant manner. We spent a very pleasant hour strolling through this artful place.

I was deeply disappointed to find out that after traveling all the way to the museum that it was closed for maintenance. I think that a banner should be added to the website informing potential visitors that the museum will be closed until September 30th.

Really beautiful museum, full of stunning examples of pre Columbian art. Could use a bit more narrative to help pay people understand what theyre seeing.

Beutiful small museum in the Historical Centre of Quito.

Impressive collection of arts! The museum is an excellent point of start to get to know the Canari & Inca culture. You are provided with a book at the beginning to help you understand all the rooms, its not entirely digitalized yet (compared to other museums). I didnt put 5 stars because of the heavy A/C in the museum... its already not very warm in Quito so its really unecessary. Keep your sweater with you ;-)

Lovely place to make a turning back in time and learn about pre Colombian cultures and their way to see life and be in the world. Also a great place to meet, listen to the stories of each piece and also the architecture of the house.

Really interesting pieces of pottery, stonemasonry and wood carvings representing shamans and all sorts of ancient belief systems. Only downside : the price.. a bit too expensive

Very nice collection of statuettes, vessels and other ancient things. The building and interior is in very good conditions, its bright and spaciously inside. The only trouble is that not every exhibit has an audio info in English.

Its a nice environment with plenty of authentic pieces along with great information provided by either an audio device give to visitors upon arrival or a guide (depending on the time of day).

Rarely have I been so captivated by the contents of a museum, by the lighting and creative displays themselves, and indeed, by the building! Much of the art contained herein is practically postmodern in design and conception even while squarely ensconced in prehistoric antiquity--a paradox uniquely captured by the ingenious lighting and displays designed for their our viewing pleasure and understanding.The architect who has masterminded the renovation of this charming colonial home in order to draw the visitors attention to the artifacts on display has created a masterpiece worthy of our careful study and prolonged enjoyment. I shall return many times to the timeless beauty of this home for art, and to take time for musing, dreaming and contemplation. Highly recommended!!
