Pratt Museum - Army museum in Clarksville, United States
The museum was closed but I plan to go back
This is an amazing place to visit. It is FREE to enter. There are many exhibits walking you through the history of the airborne military units with displays for each war/ conflict. There are displays about the changes in uniforms throughout the years. There are displays of enemy guns and uniforms. There are jeeps, military vehicles, helicopters, and a life size model of a plane you can climb into. There is a memorial fir 9/11 with pieces of debris from the towers inside. There are captured military artillery, planes, vehicles, and helicopters outdoors. There are monuments to those who have lost their lives outside. Absolutely recommend this place!! Its top- notch!
Saw another of thinks Ive never seen was cool being in a military base.
So much to look at, and my kids LOVED the aircraft outside the museum!
This is a must see place for anyone that likes American and Military history.
Was awesome to take my son and show him the history
A great homage to the 101st airborne. Would go again.
Nice museum, great history and displays
Am I missing something here? The map clearly shows the museum in Tennessee, yet it has a Kentucky address. Some insight please.
Father in law was in basics at Camp Campbell before entering the European conflict during WWII. Wish they had more regarding the 12th Armored Division.
Small museum but my son loved it!
Really cool place to visit. And educational.
It was amazing! Highly recommend. I didnt read the website before leaving and didnt realize that it was on the army base. But getting a visitors pass was no problem. Just be sure everyone has their drivers license.
This museum is small but really nice inside. It follows the history of Fort Campbell and the 101st airborne. There are several cool exhibits plus a cool outside memorial with several full size aircraft and artillery. If your visiting your soldier you need to stop by.
If youre interested in the 101st Airborne and army in general this is a great place to learn and see real history. Very nice exhibits and artifacts on display.
Lovely to go visit with the whole family.
The museum has definitely upgraded since I first saw it. Great display of history.
Just a quick stop to the Visitors Center and it wasnt too far to the museum from main roads so it was easy to find. The museum facility is clean and well organized with great lighting. Love the automatic doors (with COVID being out thereand the water bottle fill station/drinking fountain a nice touch.I feel like being there in person cannot be matched by reading about it in books or online because the history, the artifacts, and the shared experiences become your present in an "in your face" sort of way. I appreciate and treasure the ability to see these things for myself ... to feel the connection. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They were welcoming and relatable. I was a bit emotional about being there since my father (who hasnt been with us for 20 years on the day of my visitserved with the 101st but they made me feel like it was absolutely okay and normal (even if it wasnt - lol).Dont miss out on the outdoor memorials and the aircraft to touch and see for yourself. I do wish the outdoor memorials/plaques had protection from the elements and bird poop like glass or plexiglass but a stop I never will never forget none the less!I would post pictures but I will leave that up to the Army to decide what gets posted unless otherwise told I can, in which I would at a later time.
Dr. John O’Brien, museum director, gave a colorful and rousing account of the 101st Airborne history, particularly of General McAuliffe’s response to the German opposition at the defense of Bastogne. Inspiring introduction as part of our reception and inprocessing to Fort Campbell, free entry, authentic and detailed exhibits, and gift shop at the end. Air Assault!
Very informative Museum about Fort Campbell’s history since its conception. The free museum was enjoyable to walk through the static display had some interesting military equipment to see.
Was a neat and cool military museum. A lot of fun for kids and family.
My husband is a Marine and a history buff. Son in law is an Army Iraq vet. We ladies and my two year old grandson learned a lot. Museum covers various wars, and has enemy displays and memorabilia. Also has a gift shop where we purchased a few items. Outdoor park across street has full size aircraft and other machinery you can touch and investigate. Spent almost two hours between attractions, and extra time having lunch at Paneras restaurant. Two year old loved the "choppers" flying occasionally overhead. Food places are scattered across the fort. Open free of charge to the public. Located on Fort Campbell, open to visitors but must have valid identification to enter.
We went to the Museum because my husband has good childhood memories of living in Fort Campbell. Even though it has changed greatly we met with John OBrien that Manages the museum. Upon speaking with Mr. OBrien, he shed light the area where my husband use to live. We were so grateful to him for making my husbands day & showing us pictures of where things where located back in The late 1950s. He is author of the Book "The History of Fort Campbell" which we purchased at Books - A- Million. They only had 2 copies left & we started to read it. We are on our way back to Florida with still the great time & caring that was shown to us. Still making great memories in Fort Campbell 60 years later.
This place gives you the whole run down of the history of Fort Campbell. The staff are friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend it because it allows you to understand what fort campbell is all about and has exhibits that all will enjoy.
Its a fun place to go if you enjoy military history. They have some really great exhibits.
We love history, especially war history. So we really enjoyed the museum inside and all the plane and helicopters, etc outside. The mannequin figures were a little wonky looking, but really that wasnt an issue.Just wish the gift shop sold water bc it was extremely hot and humid outside and we all were so thirsty by the time we got done. The fi
Very neat to walk around and see the aircraft that once flew in the skies!
Parking lot on site and parking is no cost. The museum runs off of donations and has a bathroom that is handicap accessible and has a diaper changing station. It was also very clean! The museum Itself is easy to navigate with a wheelchair or stroller. It has a lot of information and neat things to see regarding general history and the history of fort Campbell. There is a very nice gift shop at the exit that has books, tshirts, commemorative things that celebrate Army or fort Campbell itself. There are several areas outside within walking distance that serve as memorials including tied down aircraft and old artillery items. Totally worth it and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Newly renovated facility and updated exhibits. Uniforms, artillery, tanks, and air support crafts. Worth the time. Monetary donations welcomed.
Nice museum where they display the history of military engineering from world one going forward. They have a small but nice gift shop if you need a little something for someone.
Great history of 101st Divison and equipment used during wars. At the time I was there they had author of Vietnam battle book there to autograph and talk to each person. Worth your time to stop and see..
Memorial Day 2021 is a day I like to remember and honor the people who died while serving in the U.S. military.Memorial Day 2021 at The Pratt Museum. The museum was closed but you could roam around the grounds and read the information placards around the museum. It was really peaceful walking around the Pratt Museum by myself. I even noticed the picnic tables and grill behind it.Information about the Pratt Museum:The Don F. Pratt Museum was established in 1956 as a division museum for the 101st Airborne Division. The museums central theme is the history of the 101st Airborne Division, the "Screaming Eagles," and it covers the period from the early 1940s to present.Although the main museum theme focuses on the history of the 101st Airborne Division, there are also individual displays that address early developments in airborne warfare. Included in the displays are the following units: the 11th Airborne Division, the 12th Armored Division, the 14th Armored Division, the 20th Armored Division, the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). An outdoor park across the street from the museum displays various military aircraft and equipment used by the division.
I enjoyed visiting the museum. Its on base so you need a valid ID and car registration/proof of insurance to get a visitor pass. Lots of history and definitely worth checking it out.
My kids enjoyed seeing helicopters up close.
I visited 4-14-2021 around noon: The museum is on Fort Campbell, so if youre a civilian without military ID youll need to check-in at the visitor center before going on base. Have your state ID or passport handy with current vehicle insurance and registration for a gate pass. The security at the gate and the visitor center were all very helpful and pleasant, but be ready to have the above documents and answer questions; theyll be doing their due diligence for base security to make sure your identity and liability coverage. The museum has a lot of military firearms and uniforms of the U.S. and our adversaries from various wars. There are a lot of aircraft and artillery on display across the street from museum.
We have visited a similar layout memorial museum at fort Bragg definitely worth a second look very informational and historic I hope you enjoy some of the photographs I took it with a tablet so theres no flash we intended a ceremony at the memorial across the street and then had our reception here for the advancement of First Sergeant Zarlino yesterday. Proud Retired Navy Dad.
Very well kept, clean and informational. Closed on weekends.
The museum on Base (Posthas a lot of history of the U.S. Armys 101st Airborne Division and several artifacts including this captured Flag on D-Day (June 6, 1944).
Great place to take the family to learn more about the history of Fort Campbell. The staff is very friendly and will answer any questions you may have. I would call ahead and make sure theyre allowing tours due to Covid-19 though.
Nice museum, sad to find out they will put the Gander stuff back in storage. Keep it out so future members of the 101st know about this.
Always great to observe the rich history of our country.
Very current, modern like, not like your typical dark and drabby museum. Very fun and interesting. I wanted to look at everything. Kids loved the huge vehicles and learning about the different weapons from my dad. Had some interactive pieces also.
If you go near Clarksville, you really need to check this museum out. Your time in the museum will be short, but you will gain a wealth of knowledge & appreciation for the Army & how the weaponry has advanced thru the years.
If I could give it more stars I would. Stationed here at Fort Campbell in 2010. This museum has had many improved revisions. It is a gem in my opinion. I would highly recommend this museum to everyone I know. The kids love it. This is great place for a family visit, plenty to read and plenty to look at. God bless America and all of its troops.
Its free to get in but you can give a donation. They also have a cute little gift shop. Its worth a visit if you have never been or are visiting or have out of town visitors.
My youngest kid is fascinated by this place with all the planes, hellocopters and machines. Great place to teach them about the people who operated them, read the memorials and remember our fallen soldiers.
There is a lot of great stuff packed into this little museum. Although the history of the 101st Airborne is relatively short, compared to many other parts of the US Army, a lot happened in that history and this museum illustrates it well. I dont think many folks visit this place to remind them of that proud history, but they should.
Awesome place. If you are in the area visiting or a resident you must visit this place. Especially if your are into military stories and history. Exhibits are actually real or pretty close to real. Was visiting from Phoenix and glad I was able to visit this museum.
We enjoyed touring the Pratt museum at Fort Campbell. The displays, pictures and story boards were very informative. The aircraft and equipment displays outside were nice to tour. The main thing missing was a display of more modern equipment and vehicles.
One of the best Army Museums weve been to. Tanks, Helicopters, static displays and the entire history of the 101st Screaming Eagle. Certainly worth a visit.
