Poulnabrone, Co. Clare, Ireland, Ros Comain
Stone Age tomb marking a mass grave and built with huge rocks in a table formation.
Easy to find and accessible with a well laid out car park and footpaths, which is very good considering how remote the dolmen is. Excellent information boards.
Worth a quick stop and photo op. Stonehenge its not but gives you an appreciation of the ancient culture.
Amazing to see a structure more than 6000 yrs old...
Unique. I always wanted to visit historical site. No need for tickets, free entry. Read up about it before you visit. One of Irelands mystical places.
Fun to explore and contemplate the history here.
Excellent experience. Would recommend to anyone who loves nature. The site is historical
Amazing limestone in the ground. We loved the site. It has a large parking & a shirt walk to the dolmen. The walk & surroundings are just beautiful & so peaceful
Beautiful place. Love burren. Irish people keep their ancestry so well
Very much a hidden gem and if you dont pay attention, you will easily drive past it. There is no fee to visit. If in the area it is worth going to.
A bunch of stones, one above the others, in the middle of a landscape made entirely of stones. It goes without saying that youll appreciate it more if you already have some affinity with stones.
A young woman at our hotel suggested this site on our way to the Cliffs of Moher and while it is out in the middle of the Burren it was well worth the drive. Not knowing much about what we were about to see it was great to be able to read about it on the signage that was provided at different spots along the way to the site.
We went to the POULNABRONEPORTAL TOMB on our trip in County Clare. It was easy to park in the car park, plenty of spots and walk 5 minutes to the site. It was amazing to see the dolmen after years of want to get here. It is an amazing structure and I loved that I finally got to see it.
A must visit for anyone trying to see the sights of Ireland. The sublime back drop on ancient young left you with chills, can’t rate it high enough.
A simple yet powerful site worth a stop if you’re travelling around the Burren. The entrance is free and there’s a spacious parking next to it. A few stands here and there tell you more about the history of the site, the local flora and fauna.
Ancient history! 5,000+ years old, and older than Stonehenge. We did the sheepdog demo a few minutes away, had lunch there, and then came here before heading to the Cliffs of Moher for a late afternoon hike. Perfect day.
Great place to visit … as always.
Amazing to see this just standing outside when you consider its older than the pyramids. A visit doesnt take long but its worth doing.
It is a nice place to visit. Just the limestone around the place and a small tomb as can be seen in the images. The place is nice, but I had a bad experience there as my GoCar broke and I got stranded there with couple of my friends for like 5 hrs before a taxi came for rescue from Ennis. That was a really bad experience with the GoCar..they dont respond properly and their response was to leave the car there and asked us to go back home on our own. Horrible customer service from GoCar end! 😪
Interesting geologic site. The place has the explanation about the dolmen and period. Also there is a short chronological time explanation.
A beautiful, well preserved Dolmen. It wasnt too busy when we were there, but a tour bus pulled up just as we were leaving.
Lovely site in Burren. Ancient Dolmen with stunning surrounding.
Very fascinating landmark older than the pyramids. Interesting also the info panels along the path from the car park to the dolmen.
Stopping as we drove by it on the way back from the "Cliffs" location, we were surprised at the variety of the landscape around the vicinity and just how old this site is supposed to be. It can get busy, but wasnt on our mostly-rainy day. Good documentation found on site to describe what you are seeing in many languages. However there is no shelter to be had, and no toilets on site either (IIRC). So prepare for that.
There can be a lot of tourist but well worth the visit. Its quite old and there are other monuments near by as well.If youve got a car the Burren is fantastic.
Nice place to visit if youre in the area. Respectable grounds with informative signs.
Worth making a stop and stepping back in time.
Historical place, my advice get their "Before" 8am in summer 🌞 especially when the day is with blue skies! Fir Such a small piece of history ✨ its a very busy place. Many tour buses and to be honest many visitors.
Fascinating place! Considering how old is is an be the mysticism around it, this place is magnificent!
Real history !Amazing site.Free to visit and free parking.Really cool piece of Irish history!
Very interesting so much history
This portal tomb is one of the things I was most looking forward to on our trip and it does not disappoint. It stands out so dramatically against the landscape of the Burren and gives a commanding view of the surrounding area. The significance of this place is unmistakable.
We got the history of this Dolman from the #BurrenVisitorsCentre film and its Facinating. This is the burial site of about 40 people. Amazing that it has survived so long.
Arrived near sunset. Take your time to read the history panels on your way up to get a sense of what it mightve been like. Careful of the gaps between the stone when walking around the Dolmen
It’s a great place to stop on a drive trough Burrell - which we recommend. There is plenty of parking and there is a short walk to the Poulnabrone Dolmem. It was much smaller than we thought it would be. There are good information markers to educate you on. Wear good shoes as it would be easy to trip and fall.
Worth a visit when passing though theres not much else to see other than the stones.
Good car park and path to the tomb, very wild and windswept, cant believe something so old is still standing. The drive through The Burren to see it is great.
Super-cool example of stone-age tomb. Not much around, but definitely a stop if in the area.
Feels like it’s not much to visit, but thinking about how old this place is will definitely change that. Loved the very detailed educational boards that give perspective to the age and times when this was built. Definitely worth visiting while in the Burren.
Amazing place to visit.Getting there is easy, google maps points to the right direction and theres a parking lot in the area.♿ Accessability might prove a bit difficult only at the entrance since the gate might be too thin for wheelchairs. After the gate its very accessible with a gravel path that leads you to the dolmen.🪨 The dolmen can be seen from every angle. The area around it is well kept, wide and full of interesting natural ocurrences like the incredible rock creases and the little holes in the limestone that get filled with water. All of this is well explained in boards on the way.⭐ Fully recommended as a daytime activity Great for photography in any kind of weather (even fog and rain set a special tone for this place)
Really nice place, driving to the place was great. Good car parking space and great trail.
AMAZING!Known as a Portal Tomb from the Neolithic era with skeletal remains dating from 3800bc to 3200bc.
Very cool structure to look at. The landscape around it is very interesting and something well worth the trip. Only reason this didnt get 5 stars is because I received a guttural belch to the face from a woman on my way to the structure.
This place is magical. It is unique in Europe and you can see why. If your lucky you may find a rare flower but remember this is protected so take nothing but memories and leave only footprints
This Dolmen predates the pyramids! It is quite remote but there is excellent parking. The views in the area are really quite something.
Good place to stop off and stretch the legs. Has wheelchair access via a gravel track and offers plenty of scenic views. OPW staff are on site who are very helpful and offer some very good site information. Should take no more than half an hour to get in and out providing theres parking available.
Its in the Burren. Beautiful landscape. Theres a parking area for cars and buses and theres wheelchair access to a certain point. There are information points along the way informing people of the dolmen. Wear good walking shoes as the surface is uneven. The Limestone rock has many grooves and holes so be wary
Great to see if you are in the Region checking out other historical sites ... Not sure it would be worth a trip from Dublin just for this one site. Information on the history of the site is very well done. Access to the location and parking was good.
A great hidden away piece of history. Unless youre walking or cycling, youll need a car to get here. Its good to think of the region and what life would have been like 3,000+ years ago here when this is estimated to have been created.Looking at the top stone, I wondered how many people would it have taken to put it in its spot.
Our family loved the stones and it was fantastic to be able to see them in person. We are learning about the Neolithic period with our children, so it was a fantastic opportunity to see such a wonder (although I think they were more interested in hopping from stone to stone). I would recommend stopping by!
The flowers that grow here are very interesting. Two types of orchids, two types of roses, wild mountain thyme, and many others. The tomb is still yielding archeological data. Be sure to keep an eye out just a mile down the road are two others that are unmarked which is where the golden torque necklace was found now stored in the Ireland national museum of archeology. This is a must see!
