Poshtel - in Oamaru, New Zealand
Wonderful accommodation in one of Oamaru’s quirky on Victorian buildings.Staff were super friendly and helpful.Highly recommend
Great place to stay.....very central to bars and restaurants. Quiet. Great staff.
Clean and beautifully decorated themed rooms. Complimentary simple breakfast provided for guests. Great place to stay.
What a little gem!! Absolutely loved our stay here. From the friendly welcome to the phenomenal decor and the beautifully appointed rooms. We will definately reccomend and return.
Poshtel is in great location and service was helpful The rooms are noisy as on the main road. The breakfast provided was very basic ,no toast or spreads just muesli and yoghurt. This is something they should improve or not bother with .
10/10 great hosts, very cool themed rooms and lounge, nice breakfast with a morning chat with other guests.Highly recommend.
Lovely place to stay in the middle of Oamaru. Really friendly staff, who take time out with knowledgeable information about Oamaru, where to go.
Super comfy rooms, very modern
Antique hotel. Most of the interiors have been upgraded to modern looking facilities. Doubled glazed windows with blinds stored between the windows. We were in a larger room it was spacious but no tub which was a bit disappointing. Friendly managers, the two of them run the place 8am-8pm. Code access from 3 doors. Lovely decorated lobby. An interesting stay.
Enjoyed a very pleasant stay at Poshtel. Couldnt fault it in any way. Loved the decor and the steampunk theme. We had just spent a fascinating hour or so at the Steampunk Museum so were quite delighted to find the hotel was also of the same style. The reception staff were brilliant, very obliging and welcoming. Thank you particularly to the very helpful lady who provided a very generous sized mirror, the only thing I could see in the bathroom mirror was the top of my head. : Very comfy bed and very quiet.
Hotel is eclectic with steampunk themes. Unfortunately we had a sleepless night as room very hot with no airflow. Had double glazed window which could slide open to the original windows, but these didnt open!!Light in bathroom also turned on the fan which stayed on for 5 minutes after light turned off. This also didnt help when trying to get back to sleep. Also lots of road noise.
Nice hotel with a few steam punk touches in the decor. Bed was comfy and a full range of sky channels. Shower and toilet were modern and almost new.Two reasons why Im not giving five stars. The website mentions hotel parking but three of us had to park on the main street of Oamaru. The Countdown carpark is a small walk away and looked really dark. And while our room was great, the window was really high and frosted with a sheer curtain over it so no view of clear sky.The continental breakfast was museli or cornflakes and tea and coffee.
Lovely hotel, beautifully decorated! Room was a good size, quirky decorations and descent breakfast (muesli, juices and fruit + coffee). The only suggestion Id make as a drinker of strong coffee, I wish plungers were smaller, or there was a mini plunger for one as coffee was a bit diluted. There is also a gallery next door, and the hotel itself feels like a beautifully curated gallery, so if you like art, you ll enjoy the stay!
Very inviting and interesting . Very comfortable and warm. Loved the Art collection. Breakfast as well😋
If youre staying in Oamaru, go here. A genuine boutique hotel with vintage and classic designs throughout. Highly recommend.
Really neat hotel... Warm, cozy, each room has its own theme, and with a touch of steampunk. Quite quirky. Lovely staff, very helpful.
Beautifully restored old building near the heritage area of Oamaru with a fabulous mixture of old and new design and the best hosts you could wish for.
Awesome place, very unique motel hotel in oamaru. Each room individually styled, hat tip to the cleaning crew love your work!
As soon as you walk in it is something special, huge room that has so many quirky and homey touches it would take some time to really take it all in.The lady at the reception was warm and welcoming, full of knowledge and excellent recommendations for sites to see and where to eat.Every room is decorated in a different theme and all are warm and comfortable, if the rooms are empty you will be welcomed to have a look around . We stayed in the horse racing room and loved it, the attention to detail was excellent. The bed was firm and very comfortable and large and the facilities were very clean with great water pressure in the shower was fantasticLoved our time there, loved the roomThank you
Fabulous place to stay. Wonderful hosts, spacious, great bed, warm and a well appointed room. Craig enjoyed the gallery artefacts too. Very enjoyable stay. Highly recommend. Thankyou
A night at Poshtel is an experience not to be missed. A living museum and gallery with a touch of steampunk industrial and a lot of good hospitality. Oh...and the accommodation is very comfortable also!
This is a must do experience.Duty manager excellent in customer care.A stunning property a mixture of steam punk in the lamp fittings to quirky seagulls flying on landings to best display through out of the whimsical and quirky along with preserving history.
Very lovely place. Nice and quiet, excellent decor and style and comfortable bed. Will definitely be back
Great hosts and a very interesting lift but is capable of taking a sizable wheelchair .Bathroom also able to be used for a disabled person who is able to transfer onto a sturdy wall hung wide seat.Hand holds everywhere 👍👍
Great location, beautifully appointed rooms. Lovely hosts Shelley & Aiden, who were happy to share stories of this quirky interesting hotel. Definitely recommend staying here. Warm, quiet, convenient.
Shelley & Aiden lovely hosts. Loved the quirkiness of this themed upmarket hotel. Lovely room, quality linen, very clean. Will be back when next in region.
Fantastic experience - the owners are lovely, giving great advice on where to eat, what to see. We stayed in the fishing suite and it was beautiful. Shower was fabulous, bed was very comfortable and the black out blinds were greatly appreciated by my husband. Being roadside is not a problem as the windows have double glazing. Would 100% stay there again
What fabulous accommodation! Our room is beautifully appointed with lovely bedding, tea and coffee making facilities and nice toiletries in the bathroom. Handy to Oamarus attractions.
Great friendly hosts, and impressive rooms. The bedroom and bathroom were luxurious. Skytv in the room was great. Complimentary biscuits and chocolate was a nice touch. Location super convenient for checking out the old part of town and dining out. A special place to stay in Oamaru.
This is just the most elegant, yet cool and quirky hotel Ive stayed at in a long while. All the comforts, luxurious bathroom and bedroom, yet the themed rooms make it so very personal too. A must stay place in Oamaru. How about the re-purposed Land Rover rear cab windows! Love this place and will stay again.
Stayed here at the weekend, I was very impressed with all aspects of this boutique hotel. The themed rooms are tasteful, comfortable and very interesting The hosts were outstanding and provided lots of local info regarding sights and eateries.Highly recommend and will definitely stay here again.
Quirky interior with a bit of steam punk which we loved. We had a room at the back so very little outside noise. Lovely hosts who were happy to recommend local restaurants. The room wasnt large but had everything we required including a shower with great pressure. Definitely not ordinary.
Really enjoyed staying here the receptionist very friendly and helpful. The rooms were themed ours the Polo room, was slightly small for 2 people and no area to keep bags but on the floor. Over all great place.
Lovely managers. Really eclectic design with lots of memorabilia done in a really tasteful way. Room was warm and comfortable. Definitely recommend
Fantastic hotel. Lovely check in, beautifully appointed, owner went out of her way to accommodate our family of 2 Adults and 2 children in 2 rooms located at end of hall. Amazing value for money. Will definitely return and no hesitation recommending to others.
Beautiful boutique hotel in centre of town. Well appointed and spacious themed rooms. We had the music room which was fabulous. Very trendy and clean decor in common areas. Jacqui was very friendly and accommodating and suggested a great restaurant to dine in that evening.Would highly recommend staying hereSandra and Owen - Auckland
Most lovely setting and rooms are "wow." Water in the fridge...TV choices....huge sitting room. Near local shops. Nicest place Ive seen on this trip!
The hotel is stylish and centrally located. However, our room was very small and because it is facing west, afternoon sun heated up the room.Though it got cooler in the evening outside, the room remained steamy hot. There was very limited openable window and no aircon. We had a sleepless night.Traffic noise was annoying as well despite the room was not facing the Main Street. This hotel was unfortunately one of the worst hotel experience on this NZ holiday so far.
I usually don’t bash businesses in reviews, especially small businesses like Poshtel. However, they have forced my hand. I have never experienced such a complete disregard for customer service in my life. I booked a room at this hotel a month before my stay, and they sent me a CONFIRMATION very soon after. Which CONFIRMED that I would be checking into the hotel at approximately 10:00 PM. I usually don’t like to check in this late, however we were going to see the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony to watch the little penguins return to their nests. That event only happens at night, which in the summer months, starts at about 9:00 PM. As soon as the event was over, we quickly traveled to Poshtel, arriving at the front door at 10:10 PM. However the door was locked, and any attempts to call the hotel or use the Ring video doorbell were met with silence and answering machines. Needless to say my wife and I were very frustrated with this, especially considering they CONFIRMED I had a room there and I could check in at 10:00 PM.Frankly I did not travel half way around the world to be shafted by people who don’t understand what business they are running. If you can’t accommodate people who come to the largest attraction in your town, why are you even in business? So if you find yourself traveling to Oamaru to visit the Blue Penguin Colony, DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL. Do not be fooled by the well put together website, or fancy photos, it’s completely a facade covering a poorly run business who does not respect their customers.I would suggest you travel 2 mins down the road to the Brydone Hotel. They were able to accommodate us last minute and were very friendly when we arrived. Further, given the reviews of the room size at Poshtel, The Brydone blows them out of the water.Even if you plan on checking in earlier in the day, I would please ask that you don’t give these people your money. It just allows them to continue to run the same FRAUDULENT scheme they ran with my wife and I.
Wouldve given more stars if it gad properly insulated windows to stop noise from state Highway. Great concept. Loved the room.
Our hosts Lindsay and Dalaine were awesome. They looked after us perfectly and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommended
What a fabulous place to stay. 15 themed rooms. The price includes breakfast. The chap that runs it was very nice and up for a chat. Would definitely stay there again. I thought it was very well priced and in a great location
Great place! Modern construction, friendly and helpful staff, and a solid continental breakfast. Bonus: each room has french press coffee, and a theme (ours was the music room). Highly recommend.
Awesome place. Fantastic, friendly host. Comfortable rooms. Great decor, in the Oamaru vernacular. Perfect for a overnight in town
Beautiful eclectic hotel in the heart of Oamaru. Extremely comfortable suites with excellent facilities. Very noisy during the day with traffic noise but soon to be installed hush glass will eliminate most of that issue. The staff are wonderful from the managers to the service staff. Typical southern hospitality and nothing is ever a problem.
A huge asset for Oamaru. Sooo much thought has gone into the unique design of every very individual room. A must stay, you will never forget your visit or the beautifully presented art and antiques. Absolute classic. Continental breakfast included as well. My first 10/10
We highly recommend this amazingly unique hotel for all travellers. We spent four nights at the Poshtel and were highly impressed withthe hospitality shown to us during our stay. Lindsay and Dalaine were incredible hosts and we were made to feel at home, the rate was very reasonable especially when you were also provided with contintental breakfasts. All Oamaru attractions were easily accessible and within walking distance.
Beautifully refurbished and amazing hosts but the rooms are a let down in regards to size, noise from the streets couldnt close some windows. If these problems were fixed it would be where I would go all the time. But unfortunately been on the main street and highway you would think double glazed windows would be the first option to install.
My sister and I - travelers from Australia and on a road trip in New Zealand - stayed here in mid February. Very comfortable room and bathroom, and a very good breakfast too.The staff - a lovely couple who took our booking, helped us with our luggage and served us breakfast the next morning were great! They were also very helpful with info about seeing the penguins and other points of interest in Oamaru.Would definitely recommend this place! Julie and Marianne.
Amazing new hotel in Oamaru ... prepare to be awed!! Theres so much to take in with antique sporting memorabilia and steampunk touches everywhere ... but thoughtful and very well presented to a high standard. Its a destination in its own right! Had the privilege of looking through most of the rooms but stayed in the fishing suite ... love that each room is so unique. Super comfy bed and amazing hospitality and breakfast. This place is a real asset to Oamaru, will definetly be back to experience a different room when Im next in Oamaru ... Ive got 14 more rooms to enjoy!
