Portofino Taupo in Taupo

Food absolutely 10/10! However the really pretty blonde maitre d didnt exactly greet us warmly when we arrived in fact she was not very friendly at all just sort of pointed to our table and blew bubbles with her gum which was not so professional.Putting that aside the other staff were fantastic and so friendly and the food was outstanding so once you get past the front counter its more pleasant :)

Another great evening at Portofino. Attentive and professional service with flair. Our waiter was able to give meaningful food/wine matching advice which is not often the case in a restaurant at this price point. Delicious food, we particularly enjoyed the spaghetti alla vongole. Warm and welcoming ambience. Va tutto bene.

Delicious legit Italian and warm ambience! The antipasto plate was the highlight. We got a gnocchi and a risotto and both were wonderful. Hubby thought there could be a bigger portion with the gnocchi (our neighbours got penne and the portion size was much bigger). The cheesecake and the profiteroles were both delicious

Pasta was really good but didnt like the garlic bread. It was very tangy, and slightly too oily. Left a yuck taste in the mouth. Recommend booking if you can, we went fairly early and were sat outside and it was absolutely freezing.

I dont like to give negative reviews but this place was too busy to take our order, the staff were rude and beligerent and they mucked us about, so we spent our $200 elsewhere. Could easily have been avoided with attentive staff and a polite apology. On the plus side the food looks nice. Shame we had to experience this.

Walked in to get a table at 6:15pm. Hostess (blonde on top black hair underneathwas rude. Said we should have booked ahead. Said they were full. So we left. My friend was suspicious about this statement as there were lots of tables and the book looked light on bookings. She called them asking for a table. They said yes come in now we have one. We decided not to give them our money but we’re very disappointed. We then went to a neighbouring business and gave them our $150 instead.

Food was terrific, couldnt fault it. Service really good as well.

Family of 10 were booked in with another local restaurant but turned away on arrival, Portofino made sure we were able to book in with them on the same night, was a bit rushed as they were pretty busy but there service was excellent. Absolutely recommend, food was delicious. Will be back for dessert. Thank you Portofino.....

Just had a great meal. Whilst it was busy due to long weekend all the staff did a great job. The chefs earned their pay this night. Treated them all to a beer at the end if service. Will always pay to book. The pasta dishes are just so good Im going back for sure.

Amazing pasta dishes, so far had tried 6 of them. Great wine, friendly service, reasonably priced.

Went out there last week with my family and the lack of masks were very alarming, food was decent but have had better from here in the past. Hoping they implement the masks more as we still are in a pandemic.

We are in the middle of a pandemic, COVID just hit this region and NONE of the staff here have masks. Not under the nose, not under the chin.. NO MASKS! Signs at the door telling us to wear masks, and vaccine pass inspected on entry 🤔 Food was ok, despite taking almost an hour... But the thing I cant except/explain was seeing the waitress pour a glass of wine BACK INTO THE BOTTLE!

The meal was great and the service was very good as well. Enjoyed our meal and they brought food out in a timely manner

Staff were great however food was very average ordered scallops with tomatoes and bacon so salty have eaten at other Portofino restaurants and had lovely meals

Portofinos is finally being run by people who know how to cook Italian Food to perfection!!!Simply delicious...great prices...great atmosphere...and the wait staff are hands down the best restaurant wait staff in Taupo!

Amazing meal! Enjoyed it so much we went back the next night for dinner again. Great to have a "family" area out the back with a tv playing a kids film. (much appreciated effort from exhausted parentsMeal was better than many we have had in Italy! Will be back again when next visiting Taupo. Thanks!!!

The waitresses and service are the best things about this place - food was below average ! DO NOT order the “chocolate cake” looks (same crimps in icingand tastes EXACTLY like the “Goofy chocolate cake” from countdown for $5 and i’m willing to bet 100% it is!! Mass ordered SLAB cakes from goofy not “house made” as their menu claims and $15 for one slice??!!! More like pre-made and “house assembled”.

Over all food was good but not difficult dishes. The service was fast and efficient. Price was up there Near $70 for garlic bread 2 starters (caprese salad - beautifully ripe tomato! But do prefer fresh mozzarella for ghis dish and Chicken livers in Marsala cream - lovely a glass of red and bottle of bubbly water so mid range I suppose. Only real down side was that the chair was past its use by day saggy and uncomfortable but the place was reasonably busy for the early evening.

First of all food was delicious ,staff is very friendly and professional high recommendation for this restaurant ,and everyone needs to try new Carlsberg beer on tap . Google suppose to put 10 stats rating for restaurant like this . Keep doing great job .

Highly recommend Portofino in Taupo. We were passing through Taupo and chose to give it a go as we felt like Italian food - and were blown away by the delicious food so much so that we stopped in a week later coming back through Taupo again! This will be our new stop for dinner when on holiday in Taupo. The team were so kind to my children, it’s a beautiful atmosphere and the most tasty food I’ve had in a long time. The whole family absolutely enjoyed it. We ordered the chicken mushroom pasta, a pizza and a side of very delicious veges. The children enjoyed their kids meals - pizzas and bolognese. Thanks so much guys for providing such amazing dishes and a great dining experience both times. We will be back 100%!

Fantastic Italian food with top quality service. We had the salmon penne and chicken risotto, followed by a Nutella cheese cake. Lovely atmosphere, looking forward to popping in again the next time we are in Taupo.

Fantastic food and service. My kids are fairly picky eaters and they accommodated them so kindly. The espresso we had with dessert was probably one of the best Ive ever had. Were looking forward to eating there again

Nice pizzeria in the centre of town. There is competition in this street with many eateries and italian restaurants. We selected this restaurant as I has more vegetarian options, only served italian food and gave a spik and span impression. We were not disappointed and enjoyed our salad, vegetariana pizza (a bit small in sizeand their version of tiramisu. Recommendable place.

Excellent food, I ordered medium rare beef and it was a touch more rare than medium, but I still loved it. Great ambience with relaxing music.

Food was great, and price was even better. Service was quick and friendly. Only negative is that it could do with a refurb as the decor is looking dated.
