Portland Mongolian Grill & Hot Pot - Mongolian barbecue restaurant in Portland, United States
This really hit the spot. Great food, friendly staff, and so close to the waterfront and pioneer place.
Food was fine, customer service was awful, and you will be forced to eat 2 bowls, for $19 even though the owner told us nobody can finish 2, so we ask if we can get a to go since I already made my second, she proceeds to call it a waste and tells me I can either pay $5 for the second bowl even tho it was inclusive in the deal. If you want to waste $45 on a single bowl of Mongolian grill be my guest, changs is going to be your best bet.
I always like coming here! The lady at the front is phenomenally sweet! Very helpful and quick to tell drinks and help you with your visit. Food is great. The only thing i would change is that you need to tell the grill guy to chop up the meat...
Every single time Ive come here, my experience has been absolutely incredible. The restaurant is kept amazingly clean, the selection of meats and vegetables are huge, and the staff are friendlier than many places around. If you want good Mongolian food, give this place a try.
Excellent food, well cooked. :-). I suspect an owner was at the grill, it was cooked very well. The gal at front was happy to explain everything, and its good to know how it works up front. Currently 2 plate limit (not all you can eat), One price for just Mongolian grill, and a higher price for both the grill and hot pot.
Food was delicious and the staff were super friendly.
Its visual appealing, but other then that its horrible. The food was extremely dry even with added sausage, it stuck to your mouth. The drinks were mostly just soda water not syrup. I got a sprite and all I could taste was the soda water. Staff is nice but really pushy. We wanted sausage and instead of leaving the bottle for us, they poured it over the food. I do not recommend.
This is the worst mongolian in the usAlways have issues with the lamb they put a little at once all the time and wanted to get more paid 5$ extra for the plate the worst place ever not recommended
Great food! Will definitely be back soon.
The hostess (owner?is straight up racist towards non-asians. I walked in and she looked me up and down and said ‘you know this is Mongolian food, right?’ I responded with ‘yes’. She then asked again, ‘are you sure you know what Mongolian food is?’ It felt very patronizing. I then said ‘just because I’m not Asian doesn’t mean I don’t know what Mongolian food is’. She scoffed audibly. I was annoyed, but whatever, don’t make a scene, right? I then asked if I could get a table (there was one table occupied in the whole dirty dining roomwhile I was waiting for my partner who was on the way to meet me. She responded with ‘when is other person coming?’ I said ‘5-10 minutes at most’. She responded with ‘you can wait outside’. I turned around and walked out. This lady was extremely rude; really gave a bad taste in my mouth for Chinese cuisine in Portland (it’s my first time visiting the city).
Great place to eat, love the fresh veggies and quick service! So happy theyre still open!
Delicious food and all you can eat. You pick out your food then the chef cooks it right in front of you.
I met some friends I made on Facebook, from Omaha, and chose this place to meet for the first time. I have to say, the atmosphere is outstanding. We met at 7pm, and talked a lot. We each had 2 stuffed bowls of fresh veggies, meats, and sauces, 2 bowls of Hot and Sour Soup, that tasted wonderful. It was quite a treat. We enjoyed ourselves so much, it was 9:30 before we realized they had closed, but they never even made a deal about it. This is my favorite place downtown, and one of the best places in all Portland.
Over the course of this week, I have ate here several times. The owners are very friendly and the food is great! They have tofu as a choice for those who are Vegan, and multiple sauces to choose from. Because of COVID they are limiting the amount of food you can eat, but at this time in the world, it would be crazy not to from a business stand point. I give this place a 5/5 and will come back to Portland just to eat here In the future.
Went here with my partner, we each wanted a bowl to go but the host said we had to get two bowls each because that was the size of their to go boxes. $18.99 each. So we decided we could dine in since it would be cheaper, but then she said we had to still get two bowls each and it would still be $18.99 per person even if we dined in. We decided to go somewhere else because that is too expensive and we didn’t need that much food for each of us.
The staff were super great! The food here is also fresh and had lots of flavor. 10/10 will come here to eat with friends ♡.
I love coming here. The staff is super nice, friendly, attentive and accommodating. Since you get to build your own bowl you get to have whatever you wish in your dish which i truly enjoy. They cook your food well and it is always a joy to watch. Ill definitely be back and cannot recommend this place enough to those who want to try Mongolian food for the first time or who are wanting to try it from a different restaurant.
Great food and friendly atmosphere. They always cook the food to perfection. Relaxing environment. Would recommend trying at least once to see if you like it!lunch is 14.99 (April 2022 grill)Dinner is 18.99
Chef is terrible. Twice he did not clean the grill before cooking my dish. Those black specs are flakes from the grill!!
Amazing food. Service was great. Very warming and welcoming. Love the price the food and feeling full and satisfied after leaving.
The hostess was very kind and made the experience fun for me and my friend! You get to put together your own bowl and choose all your ingredients, then hand it off to be cooked on a giant grill! Really great food, clean, and good atmosphere.
Enjoyed the food but wasnt informed it wasnt "all you can eat" until paying and was charged extra for the third plate. I found this very frustrating.
I’ve been here a few times. The food is fresh and tasty. The service is awesome and it’s clean and inviting. I love making my own dish, making my own sauces and then watching it be cooked.
Super friendly and attentive staff! The HotPot here is always so much fun to use and eat! The ice-cream is super simple and has just the right amount of sweeteners, love this place!
Great food, buffet has a great variety and includes krab and shrimp. Hot pot items are great too. Beat of all, the staff is very friendly, helpful and hard working. Well with a stop!
Never a wait, fast fresh food. You must follow the recipes for the sauces and dont skimp on the finishing sauces. I always have my husband make me a plate bc hes so good at all the toppings. Yum! Love this place and perfect for larger groups, families (if you dont mind the make your own aspect). They are mostly catering to down town lunch crowd so theyve definitely taken a hit the last couple years. We go at least once a month for dinner. I hope this place never ever closes.
The Grill is my absolute favorite. It’s one of the more affordable places that can fill you up here. I’m from GA and the lady behind the desk was very welcoming to me. I’ve been twice so far and it’s my favorite place in Portland so far!
Great Mongolian BBQ at a Great price! I do wish theyd have a little bit more choices for what you could put on but for whats your paying for the lunch which is $13 at this time its well worth it.
Love this place, no good clean Mongolian in Vancouver. You can have both Mongolian style and hotpot all at once if you want. I’m not a hotpot person but my daughter is and she really liked it as well. I ate way too much.
Ambience ok. Not worth spending so much for Vegetarian or Vegan folks. If you want to just fill your stomach then sure go for it but if you are looking for aromatic taste which will reach your heart then dont waste your time. Front desk reception folks seem cold and not friendly. The only reason me and my wife went there was to try a different cuisine but its not even a cuisine per say. Putting a bunch of eatables in a boiling broth is no big deal but developing the aromatic taste after which you are wanting to lick your fingers is what we call Wow food and certainly this wasnt one. It was no better than American blended food which is not a cuisine by definition.
The young waitress was super sweet and helpful and she deserves five star. However, the store management allows customers to walk to the food station without masks during middle of pandemic…and for the one hour I was there, they didn’t bring out additional integrations for some stations that are running low. And the sauce bottles near the grill are sticky!!! The food was okay tho…
Unique place to pick your raw ingredients, pour on your sauces and watch them cook it up for you on the flat top. If youre looking for something out of the ordinary this is a great option!!
Great spot! There definitely IS hot pot here, you just have to ask/tell them that’s what you’d like. The Mongolian grill is yummy with a solid variety of choices. The soups are also great! Friendly owners/staff.
Was out exploring downtown for a new place to eat and came across this little hidden gem! I almost did not go inside because it did not look wheelchair accessible, however they have a tiny little lift to get to the dining area that was just out of sight. The noodles are excellent and get cooked so that some are crunchy and some are soft, which is the best part of Mongolian barbeque (other than the meat). The seasonings bar is a little bare bones, but comparable to other places Ive been in this city.Service is excellent as well, attentive but non obtrusive. The meats are cut nice and thin so you can pile them on high.I did not try the soups or rice, but Im sure from the smell that the flavor is there. The hot pot section seems to be closed at the moment, likely due to the pandemic.
Went with a group of 7. The place was empty. We loved it so much we will be loyal customers now. Very friendly staff, My picky eater 8yo even enjoyed his plain noodles and cup or ice cream.
I would have to say it’s expensive for a low variety. Paid $40 for two people. The only sauce they have is soy sauce - the rest is oil or water… the meat also tastes sweet it didn’t see any sugar or sweet sauces so not sure why the food was sweet. Had to ask waitress for a refill on our sodas. There is no hot pot. More dry seasoning, sauces, and veggies would be nice.
I only ordered Mongolian, not hot pot. Pros: fresh ingredients, lots of choices on par with the bigger Mongolian chains. Reasonably priced for lunch ($13 with drink). Nice staff, good service. Cons: no off street parking, egg flour soup very bland, no Chinese tortillas, no straws (but thats a Portland thing), and they make you pay before you eat during the lunch hour on weekdays (they say so workers dont have to wait for their checks to get back to the office). All in all, I enjoyed it and would go again when downtown, but I wouldnt drive out of my way to go to it like I would for some Mongolian places.
I think this family owned dinning. All you can eat Mongolian style and hot pot. If you are allergic to soya or anything please dont go. Sometimes the food gets to be spilled to somelse order while cooking.
Lip smacking good! The food is so fresh and delicious! The stirfrys are cooked to order and usually done in just a few minutes! The hot and sour soup is the best in Portland! I also appreciate that the restrooms are spotless too!
I like it the food is fresh they cooked for you in the moment you can eat all you can eat. You pick your own ingredients. They didnt have the hot and sour soup but everything was great.
The Mongolian BBQ was great. Lots of fresh veggies choice and meats were cold and fresh. One of my favorite parts was the hot and sour soup. Did not try the hit pot, but seemed that many other guests enjoyed. It was slow, but dont let it fool you, it was very good and decently priced as well.
Love this place! Make exactly the food you want by putting fresh ingredients, with or without meat, into your bowl(sand the amazing chefs will cook it perfectly while you watch. Then take it straight to your table for the fresh cooked experience youll love! Many people will take two bowls to have a single large serving. I prefer to use a single bowl and go back for seconds or thirds. This lets me make each bowl totally different. Way more fun!
At $15.99 dinner price, they provide all the standard "stir-fry" veggies; white onion, green onions, carrots, celery, tomato, broccoli, spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, bean sprout and water chestnuts. Even pineapple chunks ! Frozen chicken, whitefish, shrimp, lamb, beef, pork and tofu for the proteins. Watery sauces including salted water, sugar water, teriyaki, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, hot chili oil, garlic, and to round it out, there are noodles. The only visible dessert is frozen yogurt.I presume pricing was not formulated based on food cost, but rather on the rent for the space.
Hot pot is good but grill is better. Willing to revesit, but littlie bit expensive. If they use better quality, its okay if they reduce the type of meat.More info about restaurantsInstagram-- travel_chw327
Your only limited by your imagination when it comes to the food seasoning.... But pro tip: Less noodles and oil, put meat in a seperate bowl and season it first so the meat gets all of the flavor. Best time is to come in between Noon and 2, its always quiet and empty then.Ask for the Wi-Fi password.
Clean environment and good food quality and nice people also great location
It’s at typical Mongolian Grill where you pick your parts and they grill it. Seemed to be priced all you can eat with ice cream available. Service was excellent.
Friendly waitress .Best value for brunch or lunch buffetBe careful with food you prepare before handing it over to the chef.. if you mix meats , veggies and spices in wrong proportions then chef cant fix it.. tipping makes him happyIce cream available.Tea used to be free in the past
Great assortment for your meal to be cooked. Not sure why Tripadvisor shows it as closed when I was just there.
All you can eat make your own stir fry. All kinds of veg, meat and seafood options. Very fresh and delicious!! Theyve also got complimentary soups, tea, soda and soft serve ice cream for dessert. Not bad for $15 at dinner time!
