Port Of Sale Heritage Cruises in Sale
Description
Privilege
A great and pleasant two hours on the water with a bucket full of stories and local history on this area. The boat is just over 110 years old and it simply just purrs along the water ways. Dave and his wife were the perfect hosts for the morning.
MoreI loved this cruise, it was the perfect Birthday Present. We are new to the area and I was curious about the wetlands and Port of Sale because it is such a beautiful and unusual area.Alan our guide was great, he was amazingly knowledgeable and shared so much interesting history of the area.I 100% recommend it if you love history, bird life or just want a relaxing cruise up to the swing bridge.
MoreWhat a wonderful, informative cruise. Very laid back with just so much information, down and back. Luckily, we had a beautiful day weather wise, which made the cruise all the more enjoyable. Definitely go back.
MoreThe tour guide was quite knowledgeable and interesting. Well worth the cruise I thought
MoreGreat friendly captain, knowledgeable on the area.
Been 4 times and enjoyed it each time, great knowledge of history of the area.
Very enjoyable scenic informative afternoon . A lot of history at Sale, I mostly enjoyed the history
MoreVery informative cruise that explains the history behind the rivers and how they came to be, the way in which the floods have affected the river and people working the area, and how the old swing bridge worked and still works, well worth the money
MoreSuch a worthwhile thing to. Very informative. Very interesting. Loved it
Very enjoyable tour on the 104 year old passenger boat ‘Rubeena’ along Sale waterways/ canal to the swing bridge. Scenery lovely, lots of birds. But the highlight was Alans commentary on the history of Sale and local area…really interesting and pulled it altogether. Thanks Alan and Dave for the cruise.. a highlight of our time in Sale.
MoreI had no idea there was a Port of Sale! Went on the heritage cruise on the “Rubeena”with Alan who gave an excellent commentary on the history of the port and the canal. The round trip to the amazing swing bridge and back to the port, took about an hour and a half. The Rubeena, whilst built n 1912, is powered by an electric motor so the trip is quiet and no exhaust.A great outing and very interesting.
MoreOkay so Im going to begin this review by giving you a back story. Literally 15 minutes before we were ready to head off to the Port of Sale for the 10am boat cruise, I started experiencing some really bad side effects (a combination of fever tingling and a rash-like feeling exploding from my head throughout my whole body).Because of this, I almost didnt make it to the cruise but I was determined to push through this setback and Im really glad that I did! The skipper Alan absolutely blew my mind with this extensive knowledge of the history of Sale plus how rich our Aboriginal culture in Gippsland is as well as all the amazing birdlife in the area. It was also a fairly short cruise at 2 hours which was more than enough time to enjoy the surrounds of the Thompson and LaTrobe rivers plus the Swing Bridge.I was a little nervous that our boat would get stuck in the weeds but Alan was more than capable of navigating through the waters and safely returning us back to the Port of Sale dock! I would highly recommend doing this to anyone interested in the history of Sale or just loves boat cruises!
MoreGreat morning experience for relaxing on the water. Plenty of knowledge shared and opportunity for wildlife viewings!
MoreAlan and Elizabeth were amazing. Such a nice couple. Alans knowledge about Sales history is extensive. My 2 year old son had a great time as well.Thank you!
MoreHad a lovely afternoon on the Rubeena. Alan shared his extensive knowledge on the history of Sale and it was very interesting. Colin was his very competent assistant.
MoreFantastic cruise down to the Swing Bridge and back. Very knowledgeable commentary. Well worth doing.
MoreMy wife & myself thoroughly enjoyed this afternoons cruise - A fantastic way to step back in history. Alan is very knowledgeable, & a great source of information.Highly recommended if you are visiting Sale.
MoreEasily the best $25 I ever spent, dont visit sale and not go on this cruise it is excellent.
MoreThe host is the nicest man youll ever meet. He is extremely knowledgeable about Sale and surrounds and clearly has a passion for his work. The Rubena itself is the oldest continual running boat in Victoria. Its a very cool and informative experience.
MoreThe best cruise we have been on!! Expert analysis and cruising commentary from our expert guide!! Such a great experience, must see for your time in Sale!
MoreI happened upon Sale while exploring the region and I was surprised at how much there is to do here. I also found the heritage boat tours where Alan takes you on a 1-2hour boat tour for 25 dollars adult. Alan is well versed and passionate about the region and has a lot to tell, especially with his deep experience working around and in sale. Excellent tour and an amazing boat ride. Will be back for sure. If youre in Sale dont miss this because its the best thing I did while here.
MoreThe tour guide Allen had an indispensable amount of knowledge regarding local history. A gentleman that you rarely see these days. His life history beyond the boat is amazing. He and his wife deserve a page of their own in the history books. 10/10 would go back for more.
MoreNice trip down the canal with a detailed history lesson along the way.
Boring as hell, only thing lady talked about was a tree falling last year. 2 hours wasted of my life. i would rate it 0 if i could. Abo kalb, yallaan shaklak
MoreA pleasant and informative tour on a very historic piece of Victorian history
One of the women on our ship kindly asked the guy heading the cruise to pull up his mask due to COVID concerns, was met with a very immature and unprofessional response (where he essentially kept making very deliberately unsettling remarks towards the lady for raising concerns). Moreover, the actual cruise itself is quite boring with plain scenery (very monotonous). The length of the cruise could easily be shortened and the speed of the boat itself could be increased. Would defiantly not be recommending this to anyone, it was a waste of money.
MoreThe scenery is beautiful. Very relaxing.
You hark back to the time when Gippsland’s waterways were a vital method of transport on a lazy trip between the Port of Sale and the Swing Bridge.Departing twice daily, Port of Sale Heritage Cruises take place aboard the beautiful Rubeena, a wooden craft launched at Lakes Entrance, Victoria in 1912. You’ll drift along the Sale Canal and Thomson River, admiring the birdlife and tall red gums on the banks.Aboard the Rubeena you’ll hear accounts of historic waterborne transport, local wildlife and Gippsland history, beginning with the Aboriginal Gunaikurnai, Gippsland’s traditional owners.
MoreHad a lovely cruise for two hours. Captain Alan was so knowledgeable with all of the local history. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Cost reasonable at $20 per person which includes a drink and snack. Highly recommend.
MoreSpent an absolutely wonderful rainy morning cruising down the river on the Rubeena. The Swing Bridge is fantastic to see and Captain Alan is highly informative and knowledgeable about the history of the area and the local wildlife. Would have loved to have gone on a weekend or Wednesday afternoon to see the Swing Bridge open but even without that it was still a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Would highly recommend!
MoreExcellent afternoon/evening cruise to the swing bridge in Sale Victoria. Allan Lewis the captain and owner of the MV RUBEENA gave an excellent commentary on the history of the area and had sufficient water considering the heat for all on board.
MoreAn amazing cruise down one of the most historic rivers in Australia. Captain Lewis is an Australian icon himself. The library, restaurant and art gallery, Aqu energy hot pools (closed till Feb for maintenance make this is an enjoyable family day for the entire family.
MoreMust visit and have the cruise when u r around, worth it and highly recommended.
Spewin we didnt know about this place sooner in the day as it looks awesome in an adult mannor. So clean, the views were beautiful, the beach stroll COULD BE romantic... Without annoying kids by ya side lol. Plenty of shops BUT a little TOOO close together but otherwise this is an all in all really nice place to visit and sooo clean, from our family experience, take plenty of $ with you when you go if you have especially
MoreI fantastic, informative cruise hosted by Allan and absolute legend. We had a fantastic time and would hit my recommend it. Go for the afternoon cruise on a weekend so that you get to see the swing bridge in action.
MoreA lovely way to experience the waterways of Sale with interesting expert commentary.
MoreRubeena is an electric powered passenger boat that can carry 42 passengers. Good knowledgeable guide describing wildlife and waterways. Good description of the swing bridge.
MoreWe(group of 4 seniorstook the 2pm cruise, can not fault it. Gr8 commentary, perfect chill out activity after driving for 4-5 hrs. Then, stop over at Showgrounds caravan park, $25 pwrd site.
MoreGreat cruise in Sale. Very interesting history of Sale and its Rivers. Great aboriginal history also.
MoreBrilliant cruise down the river, and the guy is very knowledgeable and really takes his time so everyone can see what been shown.Drinks and snacks are included and the boat is electric so its very quite.Highly recommended if your visiting Sale
MoreA relaxing and very informative cruise, plenty to see, and Captain Alan was great in pointing out various birds and the habitat of the wildlife. He had a terrific knowledge of the local history and was happy to answer any questions. Would definitely recommend to any visitor or local of the Sale area. Thanks Alan.
MoreBest cruise ever. The guide is experienced and proud of his work. He has an electric boat which is spacious enough for pleasant viewing of everything sale canal has to offer. I would highly recommend this cruise on the Rubeena!
MoreThe skipper is very nice and has been living in Sale for about 50 years. On the tour he goes through thoroughly the history of sale and the Latrobe River. I highly recommend booking about 2pm so you can witness the swing bridge on action. The tour went for about 2 hours and was worth every cent. Take a look with the family.
MoreMy favourite place to go for a walk and wind down. Great library and lots of parking space.
MoreA gentle trip along the river with a very knowledgeable guide in Alan, on the wonderful Rubeena.
MoreFantastic cruise. Alan is very knowledgeable to the history of the area and river. Highly recommend the cruise.
MoreThose who like heritage, want to explore native wildlife like koala & birds and those who want just a peaceful ride along the canal, this is a must visit. Alan, the owner, had loads of knowledge and keeps us active along the ride.
MoreVery peaceful and informative cruise. Alan is a wonderful and knowledgeable host. A pleasant two hours on the river seeing wildlife and learning the local history.
MoreA leisurely cruise along the canal and river to the Swing Bridge and back on a brilliant autumn day. Combine this with a fascinating and knowledgable skipper helped to make it a wonderful afternoon. I cant recommend this enough.
MoreAlan is a wealth of local information and stories about the history of Sale and surrounds. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise down to the (currently non-workinghistoric swing bridge and back.
